Hi everyone, thanks for watching! Let me know in the comments what you think makes a great remake. Do you prefer remakes or remasters? Also, I want to mention that I've been thoroughly enjoying SMT V: Vengeance. I reviewed the game recently so be sure to go check it out if you haven't yet! th-cam.com/video/0JBjkv61Hdo/w-d-xo.html
I think it depends on how much they do in a remake vs a remaster. Also if the decide to change key things that made the original great I'd prefer the remaster. For example ff 7 remake, no thanks. I'll play the remaster.
This topic sparks debate sometimes, the whole remake vs remaster thing is interesting but the games in this list are all great and anybody looking for a more modern version of a great game has a solid list to refer to. Great job man.
Xenoblade 1 was my system seller for the Switch. I've waited 10 freaking years until I could play it (couldn't find Wii copy) and despite having very unreasonable expectations, it somehow over surpassed them. Out of 88 games I own switch, it is my second favorite (Number 1 is FE 3 Hopes, and that's because I'm musou psycho)
I really really appreciate your channel man... I love JRPGs with my entire being so having a channel with so much content on them are must in my YT experience. Thank you for all your hard work man, we appreciate you
I never know what makes a remake or a remaster to be honest lol. I can say that all these games could’ve felt like brand new games when they released which is awesome. Persona 3 Reload was so good.
Great video!! Agree with all your points on everything but I personally wouldn’t classify Paper Mario and Xenoblade as remakes. Sure they look new and have new features but besides that they’re the same game. So I think they are remasters
Nier is also not really a remake since it’s the same game as the original just the version we never got in America. I think all they did was improve the gameplay
I think a lot of people have different views on what a remake is? I don’t think the game has to be completely altered ie FFVII Remake to be considered a remake. To me and it looks like to Slam here a remaster is just an HD port to a modern console whereas every game on this list has significant changes and most have new content.
I personally prefer remakes but I also see the value in just porting over a game to make it easier and more accessible to those who want to play them. Also, love seeing the FE Echoes love, game is so good! Great video!
FF7 is the best remake ever. This is coming from someone who loved FF7 and literally it was the game that got me into gaming. So plenty of nostalgia there. So wow
I love Echoes. The footage here is a compilation from its cutscenes, by the way. Most gameplay is Fire Emblem's 2d overhead-view grid-based turn-based tactical battles (with great 3d combat animations and voice-acted kill and crit quotes). The world map is movement (forwards to next battle, sideways into a dungeon or base, or back to an old location) on a simple route diagram, sometimes with randomly-spawned extra enemies moving too. Dungeon exploration is third-person, over-the-shoulder-camera, 3d movement as mentioned. What Slam Zany didn't mention is the first-person static point-and-click pixel hunting in bases (villages and castles). Fun, and simple enough, yet on TH-cam I've seen streamers miss useful items. So four types of gameplay.
I'll agree with your list and throw WitchSpring R, which I'm playing right now, on the list too... never played the original but I am loving this. also still not sure if Xenoblade DE is a remake or a remaster lol ETA: oh shit how did I forget Odin Sphere Leifthrasir!!! that's like a top 10 game of all time lol
I personally would say it’s a remake but it’s a fine line. They are using an all new engine, a ton of new quality of life fixes and significantly upgraded graphics from Wii and 3DS. It’s def more than an hd port in my opinion.
Fantastic video!!! I’ve played a lot of these and man oh man have we had it good lately! So many great remakes! Definitely some I still need to get to like Persona 3 Reload - I’m sure I’ll love it!
Shame *Tactics Ogre Reborn* was not in the list From SNES to PS1 to PSP and now modern consoles, this gem of a TRPG is amazing enough to have several iterations (not counting the amazing One Vision patch)
Nier is a remastered.. Its not a remake from the ground up. They use existing engine blueprint and remastered the game using new engine, majority of the asset is till the same.. Nier replicant is a remastered with effort they did not build the game from the ground up
Original Persona 3 was such a special game with unique atmosphere, unique mechanics, amazing cutscene direction and great music. Reload takes all of the uniqueness of Persona 3 and throws it away. If this is Atlus's idea of a a good remake then they should just stop trying. Atlus using Reload as a blueprint for future remakes means all we have to look forward to is inferior versions of great games.
Slam Zany: "Won't add anything that's as remaster that's mainly visual upgrades and has to be remade from the ground up" First game is Paper Mario Thousand Year Door...now you have to explain how that's not just an visually updated port otherwise I can't take that one seriously.
Why is Final Fantasy 7 remake on the list ? The game is not a remake but a different version of the original with totaly alterd story ,that revolves around different timeline lines and parallel universe .
Star Ocean 2nd story R is easy surpassed original SO2. Langrisser I & II, FFIV DS, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, Tactics Ogre Reborn, and Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals,
You actualy might. The only thing those two have in common is the graphical style. LiveALive is a episodical RPG with light tactical turn bassed combat. The elements you disliked about Octopath probably ain´t even present in LiveALive.
Maybe NieR can be considered a remaster but its remake levels of overhaul. Xenoblade is using a new engine, combat was rebuilt, a ton of new content, that’s a remake to me. Have you seen the Wii and 3DS versions lol?
@Bobwilliams5567 i didnt play either versions of xenoblade i just thought i remembered hearing about it being a remaster but i guess im wrong. Ive played both versions of nier and its all exactly the same except prettier. The only complete overhaul is the combat for the main character. It feels a lot more like automata
@bethstranding684 a remake means tbat the whole game has been remade from the ground up. Nier replicant is an upgraded version of the original game. Its a remaster. They just did a lot more than most companies do when they remaster their game.
All this remake vs remaster stuff is interesting and there are points and arguments to be made for what makes something a remake, but saying Final Fantasy VII Remake isn’t a remake and doesn’t belong on a list of remakes is crazy to me lol.
@@bethstranding684 It isn’t a remake per definition and it isn’t narratively it is a continuation of the original FFVII, everyone who claims Otherwise didn’t play or didn’t pay attention at all, period. „Remake“ is a narrative subtitle with a meta meaning.

I prefere remakes. Though a remaster is fine too. The developers work with limited recourses.
I see Persona 3 Reload I click. Agree 100% though, one of my favorite games of all time, right next to Pikmin 3 and Metroid Dread

Couldn’t agree more. That’s what these lists are for anyway.
Super Mario RPG is another great remake!
Also, Square Enix, for the love of god, can we get a remake of Vagrant Story??!! Please!
Awesome video as usual. Like the Let’s go shoutout. Give me more Let’s Go games haha!
I’ll be checking some of these and the originals out now! Great video!!!
Great video man! Your content just keeps improving. Echoes might be a top 3 3DS game for me honestly and the first Xenoblade is also my favorite.
Thanks a ton!
Great selection!

Echoes is criminally underrated. Love that game so much.
Thanks!! I agree, both are great ways to play older games. I enjoy them both.
@@bethstranding684I agree, spent a ton of time in that one. Queens blood was so addictive!
