This is one in particular where it's a _terrible_ idea to watch a quick guide like this while you're queued up. Unless you can _fully_ grasp the way the mechanics work in literally less than 5 minutes, don't watch this while you're queued up. Sit down, pay attention, rewatch this multiple times if you have to or find a more in-depth guide, _then_ queue up once you feel confident. Otherwise, prepare to be kissing the floor the rest of the fight as soon as the portals start to get more complicated.

sometimes the dark/light debuffs don't switch even if you get hit by the opposite color. you need to pay attention to your debuff color as you get hit by the birds. if it doesn't switch you need to adjust to the correct bird color and or correct portal that the correct bird color will come out of. for the teleport yourself to your new location, your debuff tells you which way "forward" is. moving forward will rotate your personal telegraph 90 degrees in the direction. for example if you have >> in your debuff icon, moving forward will rotate your telegraph 90 degrees to your right. moving back will rotate your telegraph 90 degrees left. if you have

Sounds like youve just been unlucky i got my clear yesterday as a blind tank (i refuse to watch guides till ive atleast attempted it) other tank was new too as was one healer and two dps we only wiped once on the second part
The fight is just horrible. The portal mechanics are way too hard. Too much shit to watch out for and debuffs to manage to effectively do anything else - at all.
The very first Words of Motion + portals can be "cheesed" by standing behind the portals facing the boss and move forward. Melee can also still attack at this position with max range. If you're confused by portals, when they spawn look behind and stand on the matching back portal and the side portal 's lanes (e.g. standing on a square where if you look back AND side, you see the same color). When you adjust for the first wave, you can move diagonally to make sure you're still standing on the matched-colors square. After the birds are inside the portals, wait for the 1st wave to spew out before moving back/forward... For umbral astral birds + portals... You'd want to stand on non-matching portals square. Like say, if you look back you see Red and if you look side you see Blue. When you're adjusting for the in-wave, you still adjust diagonally. But you DON'T adjust after that in-wave as your color is switched now. Stacking doesn't have to be balanced; you can survive with just 2 people on the stack if they're not overlapping with the other stack and you're topped. Pick your stack of choice and stick with your buddy. If you're one of the Legacy Control users, you can adjust your camera so if you're facing the same way the camera does, your destination portal will land where you want it to. Then just attack the boss till you have like 3 seconds, and press strafe right/left; it'll face you the same direction as the camera does and tadaa easier teleportation planning.
just overcomplicating it buddy. you stand so that the portal on your side is the opposite colour to the portal behind you. problem solved. Say you get white debuff. stand in front of purple birds. purple birds going into blue portal behind you? Line your flank up with the red portal. All about opposites.

After comprehending almost every aspect of this fight, I still constantly died to the white/black + back and side portals part when I didn't follow other people. That makes so much sense now. Thank you for this!
I didn't realize at first that the white/purple birds were flying through their portals at the same time, and was expecting them to take turns like the previous group was doing. Didn't make that mistake twice. It's also pretty easy if you just line up with the opposite color on the side right away. If you need to stand in front of the red portal due to your debuff, just find where the back red portal and the blue side portal intersect and stay there. Your color will change and you'll already be in the right place. Unlike Ifrigaruda, I think future runs of this will go pretty smoothly.
So THAT's what I missed the first time I did this: I missed that the light/dark debuffs swap when you are hit with the opposite. I'd have a dark debuff, get hit by the light on the first pass then get crushed by the light ones coming out of the portal.
I'm playing on controller and can't seem to understand what the game is basing my voidgate line on... It's not based on the direction I'm facing that's for sure... everytime these voidgates appear, I really can't even move because the purple line just start whipping all around me so I just have to stand in the middle and accept that I'm gonna be warped out to some random location.
It's based on your character's facing, not your camera. If you are continuously attacking and have autoface on, then every time you attack your character will turn to face the boss again, swinging the line around like you're seeing. best thing is to completely stop attacking and just position yourself. You also have to pay attention to which way the line is going, because it's not always going to be in front of you. for me it was going out behind, in this video you can see it's going out the right side.
@@JohnDCrafton Hi thanks for replying. Do you happen to know, when the voidgate lines first appear, does the game just choose a random cardinal direction on your character? I've seen it be directly behind me and to my sides.. never in front of my character. It's really hard to get it to point into a safe area because with controller on legacy mode, I need to run in a wide circle to have any semblance of control over it. Can't rotate my character while stationary unless I go into first person mode. This was a huge problem for me in Orbonne Monastery - Mustadio sniper mechanic too. Hope this doesn't become a regular thing.
@@probably_afk I use legacy mode as well. It's really simple. Your character faces the direction that you push the stick. My suggestion is to turn the camera toward where you want the line to go, then move your character appropriately. If line is behind your character, tap down on the stick and your character will face the camera. If it's to your right, tap left. Just barely tap. That's all you have to do.
If you have any sense you will do this once and never queue up for a random raid again just incase you get this one, its not worth the weekly reward trust me.
I just did this for the first time, and the portals were confusing me. Does the debuff also affect the portal blasts? So if I got the dark debuff, I need also need to choose the red portal lane? I watched that part several times and didn't really get it. OR are the portals always blasting in the order based on which color is hit by the birds in during the first portals?
I fucking hated doing this one, the camera is so bad for a boss like this, you can't angle it properly to see where all the portals are, if we could zoom out more it would be so much better

What the developers don't seem to realise is that they have players, like me, who have Asperger syndrome (or another form of autism) or with learning difficulties. There are ways in which we can effectively learn such fights, but for those of us with Aspergers, we tend to have brains that think rapidly with some things but very slowly in others. Half the time by the time I've figured out where I need to stand, the mechanic is over and I'm probably on the floor. It would be useful if someone did diagrams of the ways in which the portals spawn, so people like myself can use them as a reference point. I found a few for other fights in the past that really helped, so I'm hoping that something similar for this fight might be helpful.

Yea, ok, something here just doesn't add up. Every time I do this boss, and ever since it came out, I have not been able to figure this one out. I see the birds go in the blue portal, and then it comes out the blue portal, which makes sense. But sometimes it goes in the blue portal, and then shoots out like normal through the blue portal, but then the 2nd one shoots into the red portal and it just seems to randomly pick red or blue exit portal, and it doesn't just stop there, it then shoots again through the other exit portal, even though only one set of birds went in.
any advice on how to handle the teleportation? i'm having really hard time to adjust where to go... especially when i hit the boss again, after positioning it at the right spot
Loved this fight, and can't wait to get back in and do it again. It's one of those fights that feels so hard at first but will feel masterful once you finally "get it." Best fight of the new raids and probably one of my favourites in the whole game. One note on the add phase though. It seemed like the Explosion raid wipe cast is triggered if one of the adds is killed too much before the other. The guide doesn't really make that clear and it comes across as if it's just a timed enrage (though maybe that triggers it too?). Try to burn both down at approximately the same time.
Isn't the umbral/astral light/darkness association wrong in this fight? The white one should have been umbral. (Desptie the name, since the people of the source were wrong when they associated astral with light; light is stagnant, which is umbral.)
Yo... Mizzteq why do the adds in normal have to separated? they don't tether each other in normal mode and so you are just losing out on cleaving damage. Some green leaf watched a guide for this in my mentor roulette and called me an idiot because the donuts are apparently harder to dodge when they are together. I normally like these guides for newer players but not when there is inaccurate information that people are religiously following.
this fight is actually easier than I thought, hell every eden fight is, there's plenty of time to avoid every mechanic, that or there are very obvious signs
I came from WoW and reached max level 3 days ago and now reached this fight. I really hope that the raiding actually gets more challenging in savage raids because these tile based fights are so predictable and telegraphed.. The random people in my group still manage to die left right and center but it doesn't seem to matter at all, the boss still dies at the end. The infinite number of battlerezzes and seemingly unlimited mana of healers make this way too easy.

This is the LFR difficulty equivalent for the purposes of finishing the story.
