Hey Jim, thats me! The deck is hard to pickup, so nice to see you 3-0. I did brew a deck with a similar vibe focused around experimental overload during kaldheim, so yeah it is reminiscent of those decks. The guide is on r/spikes btw
Dude, I played this on my channel a few days ago and literally said the same thing...hardest deck I've played in ages. So wild that it just finds a way to win games, but you have to make so many decisions with every card.
Halloween candy for the delivery person is 10/10 Also, seen a handful of people absolutely convinced this deck is the best control deck in the format. Some impressive winrates but I've never quite seen what they've seen. Would love to see the deck at worlds.
I like combo-control decks in the current meta. You can build them to be good against the beanstalk decks and aggro decks. Lots of early removal with a difficult to interact with win con. The problem is the black midrange decks with lots of hand disruption, and especially dimir with the addition of counterspells.
I played a version of this deck at my store championship right before duskmourn released. It was surprisingly good and was super fun to play. Mine was more focused on cheating out powerful cards like one with the multiverse and portal to phyrexia, but I never thought to include brass's tunnel grinder. Had no idea this is a legit deck and not just a meme!
Man so cool to see this deck and Izzet too which has not been seen much anyway apart from that otter spell sling deck (which playing otters in izzet is just weird lmao)
I don't know if it's World Championship caliber, but I've been playing this deck off and on since Nithin posted it on Reddit after the blue Season came out in Bloomburrow, and it's legit. It is hard to play, and wild, and unavoidably random at times, but it's tons of fun, and you can mop up aggro and midrange decks once you learn to play it. Jim was definitely getting comfortable and doing it right in match 3 against Dimir. I would have loved the full match. You wanna dig and dig and dig to fill the yard and craft your hand. Unless you absolutely have to cast them to stay alive, bin the 6-mana non-creature spells and hope to hit them for free off 3-mana dragons with a counterspell up to protect the combo (exactly as Jim did in match 3). It's really hard to set up a guaranteed hit, but when you get lucky, you cast your whole graveyard and win, and even a "whiff" draws you more cards most of the time, giving you more gas to keep going and trying again. Jim said "weak to graveyard hate", but it fills the yard fast enough to outpace a lot of graveyard hate. Jim beat two No More Lies (exiling his spells) and a Frillback in one of these games. The Hellraiser trigger doesn't target, so something like Ghost Vacuum is annoying, but not an immediate game-over if you can put multiple cards in the yard every turn.

Capricious hellraiser has been a beloved pet card of mine since it was spoiled, I’m so happy to see it even being played in standard
I have to shout out the chatter who said “ four seasons gardening and landscaping” lmao

22:56 soundboard only Jim fits with this deck
Shame that Magma Opus isn't standard legal. I've wanted to build a fun Magma Opus Hellraiser deck for a little while now.
anyone want to place bets on how long it takes for Jim to realize its tunnel GRINDER?
He got it at one point during Ixalan, but Girnder is what stuck around for the long haul.
I choose to believe TH-camrs do it on purpose to entice people to post the exact comment you just did
He has dyslexia
Why can't you say "grinder"?

And on today's episode, Jim can't say magic card names properly!

I would watch Jim playing this deck for hours.
He'd probably have some sort of brain damage by the end of the stream, but it'd be a good price to pay.
I like hellraiser with builders talent and a lot of permanents. Behold, portal, etc
Ive been jamming this hard. Most fun ive had in standard this week.

@@majordude83will I regret to spend 2 mythic rares on Season of Weaving to make this deck?
