That exchange @01:02:50 was absolutely incredible, but made all the better by the silent burn of Paul throwing up Judge Unworthy on the cardreader. I see you, Paul. We see you.
Incredibly impressed that Ben was able to resist the urge to just slam these into the corresponding colors and made the effort to match up the mechanics. I don't think I'd ever be able to stop myself from forcing Ironclad into mono red.
In fairness, Mono White is really only strong for the defensive Iron Clad archetype. Given his habit to literally weaponize his own blood, harm himself for profit, and swing for as much damage as possible, Red/Black fits Iron Clad just as well as Mono White.
Wow, wasn't expecting this collab but I'm more than happy to see you and jorbs doing commander together. Been a big fan of spreadsheets for a while, glad to see more of them on this channel.
"Unfortunate that you should be here, because I would have just as much fun on my own". Regular Watcher moment right there. I am beginning to understand why the Time Slug never liked her to be honest.
As soon as they said Slay the Spire commander, my first thought was "The Silent should definitely be based on Massacre Girl, Known Killer." What a brainwave, Ben!
I'm a big fan of building theme decks with custom alters, so this episode looks like a treat! Haven't delved into giving cards ability words just yet, but honestly, they just work well with StS, so big props to Ben for the whole thing!
Theres already art crossovers with STS, the guy who did some of the unfinity duals (Godless Shrine being my fave), and some other arts did the OG poster box art for STS
If Ben doesn't get flooded with people asking him to sign custom Timmy the Tooth playmats at the next several Magiccons/conventions, I feel we'll have missed a great opportunity.
That was an absolute blast! Knew this was gonna be a good one once I saw how well Ben matched up the characters with their respective commanders and mechanics. Very nicely done, Ben.
I was literally playing Slay the Spire when this got posted here. Also, i am so bad at playing the Watcher, but i only just beat it with her, and it's because i misevaluated a card previously. I thought it was so bad. It easily won me my run
@@sallomon2357 Heel Kick! 2 cost, deal 15 damage and draw 2 cards. At first I thought the 2 cost of this made it bad. It was always a better play than I thought. 15 damage is a lot, and I underestimated how much it would kill enemies while I was in Wrath. It did help that I had a relic that gave me more energy, but it was the one that meant I couldn't rest, so I also had to get lucky at the end of each act to find some kind of healing, good RNG for enemies, or good draws and sequencing. It was incredible tho. The game ended with me entering Divinity for the first time in the run and getting 3 Heel Kicks for tons of damage. So fun!
@@AutkastKain tbh Watcher has so many good commons and card draw that Wheel Kick isn't necessarily needed, but it can certainly put in work, especially in act 1 👍 I also see that you had the Dripper, I myself initially disregarded this relic, but it is indeed very powerful. Though, a small piece of advice: the Watcher manipulates energy so easily that she frequently just doesn't need energy relics. Btw, if you're still having trouble with the Watcher, may I recommend Frost Prime. He has a lot of StS content, and a part of it are card and relic rankings and runs where he goes more in depth into his decisions (though in both cases, these videos are a few years old, so keep that in mind). Before watching those videos, I also had a lot of trouble with the Watcher, but now with that knowledge I realised how broken she is. I don't want to sound like some elitist who requires people to research tonnes of info to be "good", I just think it will at least help you understand the character more and possibly enjoy trying her builds (it also helps Frost himself is entertaining as a person, so it makes remembering everything easier) 😊 Edit: oh, and sorry for the long reply, didn't realise how much I typed 😅
@@sallomon2357 i love the long reply. I only had the dripper cuz I did a random relic to start the game. I think it helped me mostly cuz I was playing more carefully then ever the ENTIRE run cuz I knew I couldn't rest. Most fun I've had in a game in a long time tho. I'm so hyped for StS 2!
Really cool, inventive, and thematic brewing by Ben here. There were a couple things that didn't work flavor-wise but I agree were just too perfect in terms of synergies to exclude. Loltacular ending to game 1, starting from the Fallout. I haven't really played much real Magic in a while, just tooling around with old cards. I had heard the hype but never really seen how beastly Orcish Bowmasters really is in practice before, just by itself, even before the synergies with e.g. Massacre Girl, in only the couple turns before Ben neutralized it. Sheeeeeesh. That Reprieve was possibly the biggest dick move I've ever seen in an LRR Commander game. Really interesting endgame for game 2; wasn't nearly as foregone as it seemed at first. My opinions for if they ever actually make a Slay the Spire Universes Beyond Commander product... The Ironclad - WBR. Combat tricks, demons and devils, fire, equipment, vengeance. The Silent - UBG. Cunning, stealth, poison, ninjas, hunting. The Defect - WUG. Development, mechanisms, discovery, growth, self-actualization. The Watcher - WUR. Jeskai. Just...she's Jeskai. Honestly she might just be Narset of the Ancient Way, except NotAW isn't a creature and the Watcher is blind.
Graham choosing not to deathmantle his commander was weird. Like, I understand he could proliferate, but there were only 2 permanents with counters anyway?
I fell asleep listening to bad news on TH-cam, and the algorithm felt that I could use some cheering up, and brought me to Moog, thank you Algorithm and thank you Moog ^-^
Awesome picks for the commanders! I think the only things I would have done differently with the commander choices is give Ironclad something that fits his Demon Possession theming
I'm so happy that I'm not the only person to immediately think of Animate Wall when Ben realized Wall of Runes can't attack. Great minds truly think alike.
I’m still holding out for Bridge Night that they joked about in the Twilight Zone episode of Friday Nights where Ben slipped into a dimension where MtG doesn’t exist and the crew plays card games like Cribbage and Solitaire on stream.
The first games ending is very reminiscent of my first game with the Fallout Precons. Literally came down to 3\4 us left with just 1 life and untapping with 3-5 rads. And I won since I survived just because I was chugging bottles from the Nuka Cola Vending Machine.
Awesome seeing Jorbs play a card game that isn't Slay the Spire. Oh wait... P.S. Timmy the Tooth doesn't need teeth to chew or eat because his mouth is technically all tooth.
What an absolute garbo pick for the ironclad, he is 100% Mardu (red for strength/damage, white for lifegain/shield and black for lifeloss/drain). Boros or Rakdos would have been fine aswell, but not mono white bruh
Weird comment / observation... why do I think that Jorbs is actually a member of the Upright Citizens Brigade troupe? No offense is meant by this. Every time he spoke I kept thinking I was hearing stuff from UCB... anyone else?
Twitter is incapable of nuance by design. The reason there is controversy about this is that Jorbs posted a two hour video essay analysing the decisions made in disqualifying a certain Magic player, telling the story both from the player‘s and the judges‘ (also WotC‘s) perspective. The essay treats both sides as equally human, so I really don‘t get any accusations of Jorbs „having no humanity“, unless of course the accusators didn‘t take the time to watch and understand a two hour video essay. I get not wanting to take the time for that, but I also don‘t believe insulting someone over something like this if you don‘t even know what they‘re saying is warranted. tl;dr Don‘t cancel Jorbs

We ALL see Paul. Top Drawer, Sir!
I kickstarted the STS board game, I’m so happy it does the actual game justice. It’s not a 1 to 1 adaptation but it’s great and so happy
Its probably better as it is. 1 to 1 adaptation across mediums is almost always a mistake
It's quite good and I'm glad I backed it for the same reason.
I thought I kickstarted but guess my thing cancelled
i'm so sad from this
This is such an incredible idea! I love the proxy reskins! Ben is a master brewer

Prediction: They all lose to Gremlin Nob after taking too many Skills in act 1
this was much tamer than my expectation of players wheeling their hands every turn
As a fellow Silent enthusiast, I agree. Nekusar even has a visible skull just like her
JORBS??? we're so back.
