Sheets & curtains are a great source for fabric/yard goods. I've found thick flannel sheets that would be perfect to make flannel shirts or maybe some cozy PJs. You can cut up old, worn-out flannel shirts to make 'wipes', they'll be soft & sturdy. Also, believe it or not, you can unravel old sweaters to get yarn to knit or crochet a new garment.

My Auntie Gudrun lived in occupied Norway during WWII and she often told of how they’d unravel knit clothing to get the yarn in order to knit new garments. She was so resourceful, truly an inspiration. I sure miss her.❤

I have always bought at Thrift stores. I have gotten everything yo mentioned. I got a hair straightener to close my mylar bags at a thrift store. And I always grab good bags so others can move around. Thrifts are the only place I can ever find chimneys for taper candles or to get large vases cheap to put tapers and pillar candles down in to keep from having open flames.
SHELVES! I have found lots of free standing, or wall shelves, thin racks and cabinets that fit in the hallway to store things to store preps, and fancy boxes, (cardboard, tin and wooden), so you can put preps in them right out in the open. (I have those with teas in them, and all sorts of packaged foods). I got an upholstered cube for $1 that is sitting in my living room as a footstool or an extra seat, which is now filled with tuna and flat herring cans.
Tablecloths to cover my stacks of prep boxes and blackout curtains.
I need to start looking again.

Thrift stores you should look for the stores that sponsor nonprofits. Or social services, we have the Emporium is an antique thrift store everything antique but at thrift store prices all its proceeds go to hospice. The domestic violence show has its first store and it’s got some really nice things in it. Both of these stores everything is the workers donate their time. My third favorite is safe Haven, which is a no kill animal shelter. Wow that’s where you pick up your blankets. I’m in the process of making a wool top for a quilt. All their clothes, all the time are 80% off. So I look every month and if there’s a wool coat in there, I snatch it up. I made all my my nieces. Single size covers for a bit of word. To go in their vehicle so if they ever get stranded, they have a nice Levi quilt. The top is Levi and the bottom is Levi and I don’t put a filling in it because it’s pretty heavy. They are very warm. You have to watch out for those thrift stores like savers, that are for profit. They’re expensive. And you’re right just look around! You would think with somebody have a wool code or a wool dress coat and climate is 100° plus, in the winter maybe 10 days scattered through winter will it be below freezing. Where it snows all night and in the morning. Yet by 4 o’clock in the afternoon, there’s no snow!
In the desert, there’s not very many places where you can bug out and like you said before there’s probably 10 other people there before you get there and they’re not going to share! Very good video thank you for all you. Thank you for sharing your life and your stories and best of all your many recipes .

also nuts and bolts and screws and nails, gallons of good paints, peg board and peg-board hangers. $1.79 for 4 screws in a mini-bag is now ordinary price at my box store. So collect anything useful. even tools that do NOT need electricity, also good sized scrap new carpet is often found.

One thing that makes extremely warm quilts is the double-knit polyester from back in the day. My grandmother made her quilts from old polyester clothing and those quilts kept you toasty. When I find it in the Thrifties, I grab it.

I stopped going to yard sales because of 'early birds'. They would descend on the yards sales & aggressively try to make the seller allow them to go over the items before the real customers arrive. Then they start shouting "One dolla for all in this box, two dolla for everything thing on that table!" (etc, etc, etc) I 've seen besieged sellers threaten to call the cops when they get really aggressive. (They arrive in herds & separate, making it hard for the seller to keep track of what they're doing...)
    Ugh!!!

Last night, I literally threw out everything I was going to put in my yard sale. I just can't stomach the thought of these monsters coming onto my property again. I would have been happy to donate the items to a good cause, but that doesn't exist where I live any longer...even the kids are trained to be monsters out here. Had one child try to manipulate me to get into my house and another go past my gate to steal from my backyard-unbelievable...and yes, I hear one dolla screams in my sleep lol

Love going to thrift stores. Habitat for Humanity is a great go-to also if you have one in your area. I was looking forward to hitting garage sales this summer, but I've only seen a handful the whole summer. Usually there's 3-8 every weekend but not this year. I look usually look for canning/kitchen supplies, (vintage) fabric, sewing supplies, and cookbooks.

Someone had brought in a freeze dryer from someplace like Cabela's & we sold it for $80 - it was brand new, folks. Hi Jinne, I go to the thrift stores each weekend. If you check around, you can find some good deals. Now there are a lot of people who 'volunteer' to be sorters at the thrift stores and from what I heard, they get first pick on some good things coming in and get either an employee discount or ask the manager to price it low for them. Husband loves to read in the evening and he has a few favorite authors, I have been able to find brand new hard cover books for a fraction of the price. I also look for sewing, crafting, cooking and gardening books and same thing, can find them for just a few dollars. Used to find brand new canning jars in the case box, now they sell them by the individual jars so glad I got some when I could when they were cheaper. I recently found a brand new box of the canning accessories from Ball for about $3.
Lots of home decor or kitchen supplies too, many still new in box. I also watch for after holiday sales on things like paper plates and such, I've always done this and just put them away in a box for that season or holiday so they are ready to go when you need them, but in a pinch they can also be used at any time. When our kids were little, I would always shop end of season sales for coats and other things for the next season, also did that for our granddaughter when she was younger, just buy one or two sizes bigger and they are there and ready for the first cold weather and half price or less.

I have never purchased cast iron new..ever. Sometimes it needs some work..but probably have 15 different pans, pots and a kettle (awesome to boil water for coffee (we use a french press) on a wood stove or even open flame. Older cast iron was also made better, JMHO. We also collect cast iron "trinkets"...children and grand children practically give away at yard sales, a ton of little irons, toys, and even a barn trolley. Canning jars ..again, if it is the kids or grands selling..will sell a dollar a box. Old kitchen utensils, manual beaters etc, . Lanterns, flashlights, gas cans, Picked up rain barrels at a neighbors who was throwing out. We also now have a "hot bins" , it is amazon returns or unable to deliver. Fri is all new inventory. Fri, Sat and Sun everything is $12, Monday, $6, Tues $4 and Wed $2... We generally make and roll our pasta in the kitchen aid. But are able to make it without...I found a stainless pasta roller for $2 last visit..Nice to know we will be able to roll and cut it without electricity,
