They gave 3% of that money to those that needed help. The rest they claimed was "to help them in the future". ? School was just starting and they lost everything. Winter in the north east was coming and kids didnt have coats ect. Their future was then. Businesses were pissed as were people. People quickly went to donating goods or cash that went to actually help people. Dick's Sporting Goods which started here originally gave a ton of money to the RC who basically stole it. They then donated backpacks and sneakers for the kids. The RC shows up after a flood . People's basements were flooded . They have inches of mud and sewage in their basements and the RC gives them a cheap broom and a gallon of bleach.
People donated millions to the Red Cross for Haiti and the Red Cross built 6 houses and then left with the money. Don't give the Red Cross anything. Prayers for these poor people losing everything.

Next time you see a homeless person, don't judge. As someone on this thread commented, your whole world, can change in an instant. Identity theft, a housefire or a storm etc. The news coverage stops shortly after but the trauma continues.
Exactly! There but by the grace of God go I.....we lived in an RV for several years behind a ragged out double wide - medical debt (misdiagnosis requiring hospitalization), until we could get it "liveable".....we are thankful every day for a dry roof over our heads, a structure that holds warm air in winter and cool air in summer, hot and cold running water, a place to lay our heads every night and sleep, a place to wash our clothes and take a shower. I can tell you that cold has absolutely no mercy, and we learned to build a darn good hillbilly RV skirt every winter. Ergo, our weekly tithe/offering goes to the local homeless shelter in our small town....there but by the grace of God go I.
Exactly. Amen. Been saying this to people for years. You never know what out then there. I once was there. Not for too long but it can happen. Don't forget health issues. They will land you there as well. Even pets. I'd give up my home before my dogs. There are so many reasons. God bless.
Definitely one of the most historical floodings anyone up in the smoky mountain areas will see in a long time. It has absolutely ruined historical towns and it is just painful walking up and down towns I have lived in and been around seeing things just gone that used to be there. Prayers to everyone. ❤
I used to volunteer for Red Cross in disaster services in late 90's and early 2000's. The organization shifted from helping to making money for its executive branch. Its very sad to see what these so called leaders have done to a once proud and responsible organization.
The American Cancer Society is the same. Most monies go to the pockets of the executives, and ACS has never produced one improvement in cancer treatments. Their unstated purpose is to keep low cost and effective treatments away the public.
I'm Australian & I stopped donating to Red Cross years ago when I saw a breakdown of major charities & the % of donations used for running the charity. Red Cross came out as a major offender. I know there are running costs, but not as high as theirs
Do you know Red Cross receives NO government money but are regulated and rules are governed by the government. Must survey and report damages within first 24 hrs after an emergency. Red Cross will pool all money but put out any amount necessary to do their job. You would not believe the regulations. Even to be a volunteer....
I live in the big bend Florida area and I think what's going on with this dam failure is as bad as what this area is experiencing. A horse farm in Ashville had 3 horses swept away while they were trying to get them to safety. Their farm is only accessible by air. Total nightmare. Floridians had days to get out. This flash flood was impossible for people to evacuate in time. 😢 So sad.
Yea and on top of that ppl over here don’t experience these type of weather events im sure most ppl had no ideas things would get this bad especially this far inland it really is bad over here
Im 30 mins fro. Perry. We got hit hard...all my family in ashville area and boone were praying for me. Now i cant get intouch with them. I want a helicopter. My heart is breaking for the whole SE. ❤
I am from the region. Emergency alerts did go out and evacuations were made to many parts of Greene County, SE Hamblen County, and Cocke County all around the Nolichuckey because the emergency alert said the Dam was in imminent danger of failing. I was up at 2 am this morning packing my bags for my family to have to get out if it did fail. Grace be to God despite taking on twice the volume of Niagra Falls and being pummeled with debris from cars, trees, buildings and light poles the dam didnt give way. However, most of the bridges did either give way or are underwater and we have a whole section of our town still cut off from the outside world with no power, way in or way out. On top of that our water treatment plant did take on too much damage and we have been informed allmof Greene County will be without water starting sometime tomorrow when the reservoire tanks will be out. They are estimating at least a week and probably longer without water. If you want to help, we are going to be in serious need of water.
Yes, Greene County TN has officially announced that the public water is gone. It will be 1 week or more before Greene County TN will have water utilities running again. Hamblen County is sending our utility maintenance workers to assist Greene County TN repairs to their water utility infrastructure. The Lowland and Springvale communities are working on clean-up and recovery. Newport is trying to start the process of assessment of damages.
@jasonhenry3534 Awesome!! Great to hear! Just got word that the Whitesburg/Russellville Water Company is letting all of us without water come fill up jugs free of charge as well. 😊😊😊
@randystanton1224 Thankfully we had IBC totes because we have livestock and they were filled before the storm. We bought water for drinking because the whole County is out. When it comes back on I will absolutely be boiling and have Life Straws to filter.
I live in Greeneville, we are fine with water. The roads are open to Russellville and they have water. You can go there if needed. Those people in North Carolina are the ones who need immediate help. No one's life is currently in danger here, there are people in North Carolina stranded without food, water or power that will perish without help.
I'm in Brevard NC. Islands of communities separated by water, trees, and wires down. Gas out until electricity comes back on. Grocery stores cleaned out if open with electric. Swift Water rescues, land slide normal. Long time clean up. Donate to Anchor Baptist Church in Pisgah Forest, Tell them a grateful listener passed on their valuable information.

The biggest problem is roads and bridges washed out or blocked with landslides. The one major road is I-40 and it will take months to repair it and get traffic flowing again. Cell towers are out and not connecting to anywhere, even to the local 911 system. We can not call for help if we need medical assistance. I have not heard a single ambulance for two days now, the entire county population is without a way to call for help for anything. I have 4 bars on my cellphone and even calling 911 gets me no one. We are isolated in our homes unless one had a working car which I do not. Being disabled I can not even walk to the next street. This is horrendous.

@sunnyday7457 You are ignorant of Tennessee culture and really need to stop. It's the churches here on every corner handing out water. Not the national guard. Like I said. We take care of our own. Tired of hearing your bs.
@@sunnyday7457 Your comment just screams “I am extremely ill-informed and only know about pastors and churches based on what everyone else claims and the ones that appear in media are doing, so I am going to do broad sweeping generalizations and blanket them all as being explicitly negative things because it’s all I know about it.” As another commenter pointed out, you’re essentially uncultured - you’re basing your view on churches via what someone from a big city would think all churches are like. You actually sit and think they’re all out here living in big mansions, driving sports cars, and purchasing yachts lol - it’s so cartoonish. Rural, small town churches aren’t on that level nor are they doing the shite you’re insinuating. You’d know if you actually ventured out into the boonies of these areas and actually got to know the locals and understand the communities to see the churches there are far from whatever nonsense you’re trying to equate them all as being. I know where I am in rural Appalachia, our small local churches donate the most in terms of giving to the needy in our communities. Toy drives for holidays, dinners where they will cook big meals and deliver them to those in need (and have their doors open to anyone who wants to come to just have a meal), winter coat drives where they take up donations and give them to kids in the area in need, hell the church I live next to just recently had a cookout for the community because there were power outages from the storms. No money donations involved. They’re tiny churches with maybe 40-50 members max on the regular. Pastors are neighbors living just like the rest of us. I’ve never once been judged by any of them despite being open about being agnostic and not following their religion. Your view on how most of these churches operate, again, seems based on media portrayals. That’s just not how the culture works for the majority of churches across America (especially since there are so many different branches). One doesn’t even need to be religious to know that much. It just takes being involved with a community and seeing shite for yourself.
@@sunnyday7457 Anyone raised in the Christian faith is taught great reverence for the power and authority of the church. Too often, protecting the power and image of the church clergy is the driving rationalization for covering up their crimes against children. Church leaders too often cover up or turn a blind eye to evidence of child sexual abuse and attempt to deal with molestation exclusively as a matter of sin and not as the serious crime it is.

My mother-in-law passed away years ago, she wanted her ashes put in the Chattahoochee River near Helen, Georgia. Years ago the Chattahoochee River flooded Helen, Georgia. She was fortunate to see Chimney Rock, North Carolina, even the top of Chimney Rock. What devastation. I had seen the remnants of Hurricane Ike and Charlie in Florida, Camille in Biloxi, and the 1963 earthquake in Anchorage, Alaska. I think the Ohio First Responders had been sent to Florida. Normally our power crews go there also, but they and other state crews are repairing the damage in Southwest, Ohio. They maybe be deployed later.

this is absolutely false and not even reasonable to say; Red Cross fiscal spending is audited and reported and available to the public. and they are always over 90% funds spent for cause and less than 10% for business overhead. So if they raise 100 million for Helen disaster , just think about 950 million would go for disaster; who else can raise that kind of money other than the Federal Government. It takes a lot of Red Cross staff to run a charity of this size; finance, marketing, personal office, charity workers and their management, and some very knowledgeable executives to run companies managing billion dollar. charities.

Next time you see a homeless person, don't judge. As someone on this thread commented, your whole world, can change in an instant.
Identity theft, a housefire or a storm etc. The news coverage stops shortly after but the trauma continues.
That's a very good point. Thank you for the thoughtful explanation that made me THINK.
God bless.

I used to volunteer for Red Cross in disaster services in late 90's and early 2000's. The organization shifted from helping to making money for its executive branch. Its very sad to see what these so called leaders have done to a once proud and responsible organization.
How can these Red Cross executives live with themselves?
The American Cancer Society is the same. Most monies go to the pockets of the executives, and ACS has never produced one improvement in cancer treatments. Their unstated purpose is to keep low cost and effective treatments away the public.
That’s horrible!
Well, start your own Non-profit.. What has complaining ever solve?
thank you for the help you gave.i'm sure you touched many lives.
During hurricane Katrina, the Red Cross collected tons of money and then they never could prove what happened to it

We stopped the fundraiser.
Sending prayers. Very sad.
Don’t use go fund me either . We saw what they did to the Canadian Truckers when people donated to them they with held it !
😢 So sad.

My grandfather told me they wouldn't give him a cup of coffee when he had no money during ww2.

Boil water please see that water can be filtered and boiled. I'm in Jonesborough not far everyone w a still can produce clean water
Feel terrible for everyone impacted. Hopefully the water level goes down fast and the cleanup can begin.
There's another storm brewing for next week.

@@sunnyday7457 Your comment just screams “I am extremely ill-informed and only know about pastors and churches based on what everyone else claims and the ones that appear in media are doing, so I am going to do broad sweeping generalizations and blanket them all as being explicitly negative things because it’s all I know about it.”
As another commenter pointed out, you’re essentially uncultured - you’re basing your view on churches via what someone from a big city would think all churches are like.
