I am no longer working as an RN. Been a nurse since 1985 but am totally discouraged by the system. Esp since Covid. I think u need to do more home remedy videos. Your knowledge is priceless and I for one appreciate them. Thank you for sharing
I'm a 77yr old English woman and have always lived this way. I was a nurse and saw for myself how conventional medicine actually kills people in the end.
I’m a retired RN who has become disillusioned by “health care.” I’m very interested in these recipes. If 2020 taught us anything it’s that the supply chain could stop and we have to be able to know how to take care of ourselves. Thank you
Fabulous video. You need to make a home remedy booklet to sell. I would buy one for sure. In my opinion, the old ways are the best ways. Ruth, you are my go-to girl. I value all your information. Blessing to you and your family.❤❤
I agree! I’d buy one for sure. Most Americans sadly have gotten away from old time remedies and have relied on the medical professionals. It’s sad because growing up grandparents/ parents rarely took us to the doctor. They used old time remedies. Those things are being lost. Plus our foods have changed since I was young, which has severely impacted our health. So please spread your knowledge by printing a book with your knowledge. I know some knowledge that was passed on from my grandmother but would love to learn more
A suggestion Ruth Ann to help you protect yourself on TH-cam. I've noticed that many people who give herbal remedies on TH-cam begin by first giving a 'disclaimer' in order to protect themselves. They do this by saying something such as 'I am not a medical doctor, I am just showing you what I do and what my family does, and what many in the Mennonite community do. Anything you try is at your own discretion, and at your own risk'. And in addition you could also add a written disclaimer to the drop down menu which I've also seen people do. Hope this helps. Thank you for sharing your wonderful information with us!!
Yes, regarding protecting yourself, some forty years ago, I worked at THE BEST health food store in Omaha. When folks would come in and ask what to buy to treat whatever ailment, we couldn't just tell them what we knew was best. We had to preface it with, "Dr. Kelley's news letter says this." Or "Adelle Davis wrote this." Never just prescribe for an ailment, even though everyone wants you to. Now I am very ill, and need to get back to those teachings. I still have the books, but ya don't get smart (or well) by having them on the shelf! (I sound like my dad now. 🤣😂🤣)
@@sherylpedersen7831 Sending up prayers for your healing! It's never to late to dust off your books and start using those techniques. Famous herbalist 'Rosemary Gladstar' has some great books containing herbal remedies, I have her book called 'Fire Cider' and will be collecting her other books as well.
My family hates fire cider for the taste BUT loves the results! We joke that we only go to the Doctor for broken bones and death. It’s amazing what the Lord provides thru natural immunity and home remedies.
I told my dr I only need him for referral a specialist. He tries pushing meds so much. He knows that I am not interested in his pill pushing tactics. No jabs for me!
My wife studied Medicinal Chemistry to Masters level then spent 14 years working for a pharmaceutical company. Perhaps because of her experience in "ethical pharmaceuticals" she always uses natural remedies wherever possible. Garlic, as with other plant-matter, is well known to have medicinal properties and it is documented in scientific studies. You have such a cute grandson!
Never a truer word spoken. We as humans only got to here by overcoming ‘things’. Or died by ‘things’. Those who died generationally , hundreds or hundreds of thousands of years ago, and those generations that survived, made ‘US’. My mind blows whenever I stop to be aware, that I, and we all, are the genetics of something from the earths inception. I really appreciate you Ruthanne for sharing your upbringing in the Mennonite community and the wisdom you teach us all. Thank you, xx

Almost... It needs to learn (which can be accomplished via natural infection or vaccine) and it needs to be healthy (have all necessary resources readily available to it). A healthy diet of fats and proteins and essential nutrients will go a long way toward healthy immune function.
I'm not Mennonite but I'm of an earlier generation. We always fixed are ills at home. We never had well baby visits. The only time we went to the Doc was if we couldn't take care of it at home. God gave us a great immune system and we all healed fine. I had measles mumps and chicken pox. No problems. When the neighbors had these my Mom sent me and my sisters over to play so we would all be sick at the same time. We played in the dirt, we didn't use all these germ cleaning products. We washed our hands before we eat. We shared drinks (I still do with my grandkids). I never bought into the scary commercials used to brainwash you into using store bought products to kill germs. LOL I use all natural or homeopathic remedies. Thankfully my daughter does the same and her kids are so healthy. They never have runny noses or allergies. Have no idea if we have had the dreaded virus, i never bought into the lies that were spread. Never trusted the testing. I'm very proactive in healthcare and question everything. I love following you because we are alike. Good food and nutrition goes a long way to keep you healthy. Been thinking of making fire cider thanks for the video and I'm going to make some. I just love your video's.
Do you have a recommendation for a 2.5 year old with a wet cough for a month. I've always used natural remedies, even with my now 8 year old son. My toddler has had this weird phlegm-y cough for weeks now. It's the strangest thing I've ever tried to treat. It just won't go away. I was giving her elderberry and a small amount of echinacea and mullein, but that didn't seem to do anything to help. So I thought maybe what she was dealing with was more bacterial so I started giving her colloidal silver and UMF 20 manuka honey. That also doesn't seem to be working. Or maybe it's just a cough that's lasting an abnormally long period of time?! It's so odd. Anyways, was wondering if you had any idea of something that could help. Thanks
@@bustlesAmla juice. Just a capful to a glass of water. Watch them carefully because it expels and often needs to be face down to avoid choking. It's extreme but it works. Always stay with them until the coughing is over. The younger they are the more you need to be there to help them through it.
I love - LOVE - all your canning recipes and will take all the canning recipes I can get from you!💛 That said, I am also interested in your natural remedies videos, too. Basically- if you’re putting a video out, I’m watching and listening and learning. Thank you for all you do!🤗
Matthew 16:24 NKJV💜 [24] Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 💙
One time I used garlic to get rid of two superbug strains from my kitten. I took my kitten to a vet because she sneezed and had running nose constantly for many weeks. The vet said two superbugs that could not be eliminated by any antibiotics were found in her nasal sample. The only option she offered was to take my kitten to an animal hospital 50 miles away and spend $600 (30 years ago) to surgically open and flush clean her naval cavity and ran a 33% chance of bringing a deaf one home. I did not take her suggestion. I remembered that I read a story about a person who had sinus infection since she was a kid and was constantly on and off antibiotics that offered her only temporary relief. Many years later she found a remedy from her grandma's books about using freshly squeezed garlic juice for her problem. She conducted the garlic juice ceremony with her friends. None of them could smell the garlic after it went 100% strong into her nose and caused her to see a flash of white light while her eyes were closed. It cured her sinus infection. She said it was like her body totally absorbed the garlic, including its smell. I thought I could not do that to a kitten. So I diluted the freshly squeezed garlic juice over and over in filtered water to a liquid that no longer smelled garlic. I put one drop of this liquid into each of her nostril every morning. Her problem noticeably improved after a few days and completely cured after one month. I stopped this routine with plenty of the liquid left. Her sinus problem never came back. I recently learned about one of the principals of homeopathy is that a repeatedly diluted remedy can become much stronger and potent than the undiluted one. I wonder if I made a very potent remedy that was capable of eliminating super bugs. By the same logic, I wonder if just one drop of garlic juice in the well mixed coconut oil could achieve the same result, even though it might not smell garlic at all. Thank you for your video and giving me the opportunity to share my story.
@@jasminbintyousuf5992 I squeezed juice out of a garlic clove into a plastic or glass container, then add filtered water until I could not smell the garlic. Since our nose gets de-sensitized quickly, you might need to step out then come back later to make sure. You can also pour a bit of the garlic water to another container that has filtered water and repeat until you cannot smell the garlic. Then I held her little head back (she was a kitten, so it was not hard as I was able to hold her body with one hand and used the dropper in another hand), so her nostrils were tilted upward, then I dropped one or two drops of the final diluted liquid into each of her nostril. She would sneeze immediately afterwards. I would let her sneeze, then put a few more drops in again. I did this every morning for about a month. I put the un-used liquid in the refrigerator and clean the dropper after each use. If your cats are bigger, then you might need another person to help you. Also keep your face a good distance from your cats (best to be a good distance above them) because they will spray their stuff around.
Garlic in your cat’s nose? “Caused her to see a flash of light”? Jesus! This is why a little information in the hands of the wrong person is dangerous. While it might be true that this helps some HUMANS, if you’d done ANY research at all, you’d know that garlic and onions are TOXIC to cats. I agree that vet costs are absurdly high, but by being frugal you most likely did some serious damage to your cat’s kidneys. Please READ and do research before you blindly follow non medical personnel’s advice. Don’t conduct medical experiments on your pets. If you want to do that with your own body, go ahead. I’m sorry to be so blunt but as you can see from the comments, already others are blindly following your lead, most likely to the detriment of their poor feline friends.
This is how most people lived and felt about the medical community without being Amish or Mennonite. My grannies always used the old country home methods on us, and we only went to the dr went things were really bad. It was just common sense. Since the 80's the way you describe the "modern" world has gradually morphed into what you depict, and I heartily agree with you (and also the reasons for it). I just shake my head. Of course, I couldn't have predicted the whole world would have lost their collective minds in 2020 like they did, either...People look at me like I have 2 heads when I refuse to say the "C" word with bated breath like they do, and tell them they need to let their immune systems work. Such a thing as keeping it too clean. Also, the insurance companies have destroyed our medical system.
Agreed. I'm in Canada and our system has really taken a punch the last generation. I put a lot of blame on the media spreading fear to new parents with words like meningitis or "flesh eating virus". Now our ER's are looking at wait times over 4 hours - mostly for minor viruses. That being said my son at 30 years old developed a sinus infection that somehow spread into his brain forming an abscess! You can imagine how grateful I was for our "free" healthcare system when he was taken in for surgery on his brain! I can't imagine the cost without our healthcare. But common sense seems to diminish with every generation and social supports are showing their cracks. I'm so thankful for people like Ruthanne for sharing their wisdom - now I have to get that recipe before the yoo toobs takes it down! 🥰

What a wonderful video. I grew up in the fifties and sixties. If anyone in the neighborhood was sick, our parents put us all together to play. I did the same with my children. Thank you for the recipes. I will make them for my grandchildren. Have a blessed week.
Exactly and now they call us rebels for suggesting this. I had them all at the same time with my sisters. We played till our aspirin wore off took a nap and took more aspirin then played the rest of the day. After a few days went back to school. Didn't even go to the doctor.
This is so foreign to me! NOW I understand that we need to allow our kids to strengthen their immunities but in the 80s and 90s, when I raised my kids, I guess all the germ free nonsense was in full bloom! My mom told me I was making a mistake by bleaching everything all the time. I thought she was crazy! 😅 I kept my kids so locked away from every sick kid I knew about. Hosting a sleepover when your kid was sick .... I would have thought was insane! Oh.... my kids were always sick. Ugh. I want a do over! 😂

I would LOVE to hear about more home remedies. My grandmother always made things like this, but she passed before I realized how important they were to know. So I am very grateful to women like you who can pass this knowledge on to the rest of us. ❤
I don’t grow up Mennonite, but I grew up with many of those same views, and still feel that way. When we get sick, we don’t instantly go to the doctor, we give our selves time to heal and let the sickness run its course. When we do actually go to the doctor, there’s a real need for one.
I definitely understand what you mean by differences in communities. I'm an RN. I no longer practice because the system is broken, and I didn't feel like I was making a difference anymore. I make fire cider every year. I never took my children to the Dr unless there may be broken bones.

I am an RN, registered nurse, this is just great. I live in Utah's color country. Very rural, near several national parks, and I do Homecare. I encourage patients to try stuff like this all the time. I recount my grandma's remedies all the time. Her favorite thing was olive oil for skin ailments, and vix. Pretty much fixes everything with those to according to my grandma. She was from Arkansas Ozarks, so fresh veggies and fruits, pure eating. Hey when it works, it works and so much better than pharmaceuticals and processed junk. Love this. I found you about a week ago, looking to learn how to can. I have been watching your videos everyday, just learning so much. Thank you, God Bless you and yours. Sweet grand baby!
OH MY GOSH!!!! The fire cider recipe is almost exactly what I remember my grandmother making and she did add honey. Not one of my aunts remembered how to make it except hot peppers, onions and garlic, but didn't remember how to make it (or didn't want to remember 😆). I say that because I also remember an onion, garlic, and mustard plaster (maybe the plaster part was oatmeal flour?) that she would put our chests that resembled a very stinky hot spicy vicks vapor rub. They worked, every time. The lived in the hills of West Virginia and had to have these remedies past from one Mother to another because the doctors were hours by horseback away and even a day's ride to a hospital. If you have the mustard plaster (what grandma called it), I would LOVE to have it!
Hello from Scotland….Love seeing these remedies…despite how bloomin’ awful they taste!!! I remember my mother having us breathe steaming friars balsam and water with a towel over our heads. Oh and then there was her famous mustard plasters lol xxx
Here in Northern Germany we had to sit under a big thick towel with a pot of camomille. That part was easy! Though my kids got a cheap plastic inhaler with a face mask - and they could easily watch TH-cam! Pain in the ears will be treated with a sachet of raw cubed onion tied in place with a wollen scarf! That one is a stinkin bummer for the whole family!🧅🤧
@@s.kurzeck3020 the chamomile sounds not too bad actually but the onion ear treatment! Ick! Reminds me of another remedy my mom had….if you had a sore on your foot, sliver, or planters wart, on went a nice thick slice of onion and bandaged on. And for new mothers with mastitis when breastfeeding….a cabbage leaf, had to be one of the dark green outer leaves, was place in a bra until soreness went away.
@@rosiekerr8268Ouh, yeah! I also had those cabbage leafs! When we were in the plain circles, I noticed what you shared about not seeming to keep sick children home. I remember being shocked when an unwell child at church "hadn't thrown up since this morning " 😊. My response wasn't fear based though, it was just a desire for my own family to not have to take turns being sick for the next week. I saw it as a 'love your neighbor ' to not spread sickness. However, living closely in community (which is what is truly uncommon in today's culture) brings with it so much good.

@@cynthiafisher9907 I’m not 100% sure, but a few days before the stomach pain started I ate some blackcaps on my property. I figured there must have been some kind of larvae on them and they developed in my system. It was about 10-14 days before it got to where I was on the bathroom floor screaming in pain having no idea why. After I passed it, I freaked out when I saw what was in the toilet. Don’t judge me, but I took a picture. A few days later I had a regular Dr appointment for something else and showed my Dr. I will never forget the look on her face 😆😂. She said there’s no need to test me for worms, because I had the proof. She prescribed 2 pills if I remember right to clear out anything else that might have been in my system. I am a “still working RN” . I agree with you whole heartedly. I grew up in the 50’s and my own family treated in the same way. I agree, the state of current health care in our country is in very sad state. I’ve worked in nursing 50+ years. Also, approximately 25 years ago there was a study done in California with Latino people. It was found they had a very low incidence of upper respiratory problems. What the researchers found was d/t their consumption of a lot of spicy foods and spices this is what protected them. Who knew?! What you are doing for your family is not harmful ( unless allergic to one or more of the ingredients) this is food. I feel it is best to use natural methods and minimize consumption of chemical, processed ingredients. Unless it is determined you have a bacterial infection. Fortunately I rarely am sick. Last time I was really sick (1 week ) was 1984. I trust my good immune system. Love your channel as it reminds me of my childhood. Thank you

My kids used to call me Doctor Mom. i have always used natural remedies to treat them if they got sick. Other Mothers asked me how I got my children through an entire year without missing any school. They would all get awards for perfect attendance every year. Doctors and Nurses have saved my life on several occasions and I was a Nursing Assistant for 20 years. By the next day we would all be well, and it would stop with that one child.

'The immune system needs practice to get strong.' Truth.
100% I keep preaching that too.
Yes, very true!

Almost... It needs to learn (which can be accomplished via natural infection or vaccine) and it needs to be healthy (have all necessary resources readily available to it). A healthy diet of fats and proteins and essential nutrients will go a long way toward healthy immune function.
Never too much canning, never too many home remedies, never too much baby time, and never too many stories about cultures. Thank you!
Love this. What do you use to clean. I use lemon infused vinegar for now, but a friend showed me a Thieves Oil spray mix that smells SO good.
We will be going back to home remedies. People need to wake up. Love your show. Thank you

I love all of the topics from canning, cooking, home remedies, gardening, laundry, the list goes on.
Hi, could you please share the exact steps so I could follow them for my cats? Thank you.
Onion family plants are linked to anemia in cats. Please study before trying.

Truth!! ❤

Me too. Chicken pox? SLEEPOVER! Mom's took turns hosting. Oh, and boys and girls together, everybody's included.
That's so funny. Measles and chicken pox were not a big deal, right?! You'd get a little but sick and then you were immune.

I don’t grow up Mennonite, but I grew up with many of those same views, and still feel that way. When we get sick, we don’t instantly go to the doctor, we give our selves time to heal and let the sickness run its course. When we do actually go to the doctor, there’s a real need for one.

@@s.kurzeck3020 the chamomile sounds not too bad actually but the onion ear treatment! Ick!
Please do more vidoes on this subject. I would to see what to do with my frozen Elderberries. Thank you.❤
Elderberry syrup. Very easy!
Your are such a treasure! I’m tickled that my 5 and 7 yr old grandchildren love watching you and your family. Thank you👍
My kids used to call me Doctor Mom. i have always used natural remedies to treat them if they got sick. Other Mothers asked me how I got my children through an entire year without missing any school. They would all get awards for perfect attendance every year. Doctors and Nurses have saved my life on several occasions and I was a Nursing Assistant for 20 years. When one of my children would come home sick I would make chicken soup with onions and garlic and feed it to everyone in the family. By the next day we would all be well, and it would stop with that one child.
Never tire of your canning videos!
Thank You for sharing home remedies! I feel they are very important especially in a time of all the chemicals being pushed on us. Because of your videos I am both water bath and pressure canning. My husband thinks I have lost my mind but is also LOVING all that I am making.
I can never thank you enough!
Blessings and prayers to you and the family!
