Well I know it is the first in house design by vespa. And it should be an amazing knife. Still waiting on one to do the review. But It will be as soon as I get it.
Thanks for the review. I love the spanto blade. The budget Cypher is out too which might be more my style. Looking forward to your presentation of the Ripper!
I have owned several Microtechs & I love them. Have one coming in the mail today. But I also just got my Vespa Cypher D2 & it's awesome. Incredible action & lockup. D2 wasn't as sharp as I like so I sharpened it on my Wicked Edge. I was pleased to find the steel isn't a pushover to sharpen & it took some effort. This tells me the edge retention will be decent, if not very good. What amazing knives! I'll be ordering a Combat Troodon soon, the only question I need to answer is whether it'll be D2 or S35VN. Thanks for the info, these knives are of truly amazing quality.
This would look nice with just raw aluminium and brown g10 inlays. Im looking forward for the review on the Vespa Ripper? the tanto blade model is beautiful. Hope to see it on here
That’s why is good to be an American!! You can buy from whom ever you want!!! Pay $200 for a knife 🔪 made in the USA or pay $20 for one made in China !! I like the $20 knife all day long cause I work hard for my money!!!
The Blue/ Black inlay looks alright in the black. But they Ruined the Green with that color clash. I love Green anodizing, and I can not buy that knife due to the awful inlay. Send the feedback to High End EDC and Vespa to use more flowing g colors, or just dont do an inlay.
Hey I disassembled and cleaned my d2 combat troodon, and how there is a rattle when closed, I believe it it the blade stop pin. What can I do to fix this? I tried reassembling multiple times lol
take the blade stop pin out and put a very small dab of grease on the side of the pin. You should not use so much that it oozes out. even on the underside lip of the pin that sits flush against the blade is enough and it wont rattle at all.
@@purpledc1 thanks for the response, I actually ended up using a product similar to wd40 on it, now the blade functions way better than it did when I received from the factory with no rattles, before it was misfiring 1 out of 10 times now it has misfired once(:
Anytime you see a picture of an automatic knife on a Chinese selling site the pictures many times are edited to comply with that companies listing policies. Make no mistake you will get an automatic knife just like in my video.
Well all out the fronts with the exception of the deadlock (which sacrifices much to achieve it) have some amount of blade play. But it is within the tolerances that you would see from a much higher priced similar design.
@@AktivacnyPracovnik No the harkins has a tiny bit and so does the burn knives. Very very little but its still there. IMHO the best is the harkins and how it rides on two guide rods. The deadlock wedges the blade the mechanical interference that mars the blade every time you fire and retract it. Both my examples also dulled on the handle edges because there is a lot of side to side slop as the blade fires and retracts and not enough relief cut into the edges of the handles to not dull it. Also one of the deadlocks had to go back to G&G because you could overcome the lock by grabbing the blade and wiggling and and it would just slip right into the handle.
hey PurplEDC. i just received my first order from chinahighendedc after watching your reviews, thanks for them! i ordered the Vespa Cypher M390 after ogling at it for some months (its mint!), and the Combat Troodon in D2. i wanted to ask you, how is the blade lockup on your green troodon since mine seems really bad and the blade rattles when deployed (i expected better blade lockup and less play than on the cypher), at the current state its quite a disappointment :(
Howdy. Glad you are liking at least some of your purchases. The green troodon I have doesn't have any more play than my other troodons. But if you have the same blade style as seen in the video the perception that there is more play than the others could be an issue. The reason being there is a lot more weight to the blade of that design than the dagger or even the interceptor style blade. The more mass the blade has the more susceptible to inertia centrifugal force. Especially if that weight is at the tip. To see if this is the case grab both knives and open them. Check for blade play again. But only grab the blades right at the point they exit the handle. If I am right about your situation you should find it harder to tell a difference between the two. If it still feels like the troodon is the loser then you may have got one out of spec. You are the first to raise an issue with the new knives. And while the d2 is technically a lesser knife the bodies should be the same.
I was waiting for these for months. Not a fan of the inlay on the handles though. I wish they just used one colour inlays. Now i am just gonna take the plunge on the 160$ version
They now have an ultratech sized knife but its their own design which I actually think is better. But that knife has a lot of clones. I know vespa would make the best one, but I don't know if its in the cards. Never say never though.
well, you have people who are really brand loyal and consider it a slap in the face. But microtechs best designs are those they took from other people anyways. They design a lot more of their own stuff these days. But its also why they really haven't made a sexy otf design since the troodon.
I get not having the money for a microtech but I can't agree with spending money on a company that is stealing the design of someone else. I've wanted an ultratech Spartan but I saved up for it, it's not okay to make money on someone else's work.
Tell that to Microtech themselves. Look up the OSS Cobra. Total uncredited ripoff of a Mikov. Owner of Mikov was heartbroken that a huge American manufacturer was taking their design and business. Microtech fanboys didn't care because it was an "upgrade" - it was more expensive than the original, so that's okay right? Still a clone. Also look up the Microtech Matrix. Total ripoff of the ZT 0777. ZT even poked fun at them by releasing a cheaper version through Kershaw called the "Natrix". Microtech has a horrendous history of bullying, stealing designs, and overall shitty business practices.
Vin Ellis there’s way more to those stories and it was never over just blatantly ripping off the design. These clones are trying to pass themselves as microtech otfs name, designs, and grinds and all poorly at that.
@@alexanders1445 False. First, the OSS Cobra is a BLATANT ripoff of a Mikov. Same 2 grinds available, dagger or bowie, same dual leaf spring design, same leverlock, are you seriously going to look at anyone with a straight face and say it wasn't a ripoff? Marfione himself admitted it was a ripoff, and just excused himself because he "viewed it as a traditional European design." Mikov wasn't happy. Mikov fans weren't happy. OSS Cobra was quickly discontinued. Also false. Vespa is not passing itself off as a Microtech at all. It has no logos. And it is not made poorly.
Vin Ellis don’t swallow your tongue there. I only said that microtech never ripped off a design like Vespa is. What would you call it if I designed a truck and called it the Mick f-150, made it look like a ford truck as best I can, but swore my ass of it’s not a Ford F-150 knockoff. The whole shit show with mikov is more then tony just stealing a design. And if you’ve ever had A microtech otf fuck even a Benchmade OTF you’d understand.
I really cant fault you. I would have even preferred all black G10. Its a great knife but I too am not feeling the inlay. Especially since the blade is C/F.
Because not everyone likes carrying a $450 knife. Many people buy a microtech and never use it because they worry about resale value and its just bragging rights to them. If you can get a high quality alternative in the $100 price range at the very least it gives you an option to leave your good knife at home in an event where you may want something on you but are worried about losing it or having it be stolen. I have microtechs. And I have had damn near every high end OTF out there. The stuff coming out of china is superb. And for the price you cant beat it. I would take a high end Vespa with M390 and the carbon fiber any day over a stock microtech.
What do you think PurplEDC about Viper Tec? Honestly? Thank you VERY much brother! I really like your videos man and I resonate with your perspective on overpriced mediocre craftsmanship. Thank you once again and Godbless you my brother!
Yeah. a whole lot for your money. You cant judge unless you have owned one. I was a microtech collector for a number of years. And still have a few microtechs. Nothing beats the value of a vespa. And I would argue "getting what you pay for" with the USA based brands is the name.

Is the swedge sharpened on the interceptor?
