      I have always had a hard time finding headphones wide enough to wear comfortably all day long. I have big curly hair! Haha♡
      Would you consider making a video on the headphones that Sweetwater carries, and size them small to large?♡? That would really help me solve my shopping for headphones problem!
      Thanks again!♡ be well :)

    So interesting. Decided to use my backup headphones yesterday at my dj event. The 32 ohm headphones were significantly louder than the 95 ohm ones I usually use. Both are designed to dj with. Almost thought the 95 ohm were broken or dying out.

    I recently need to get a new set of headphone and did my research and decided I wanted the DT770 32ohm. I called myt Sweetwater sales person but they were busy so I talked to someone else. I couldn't believe they kept telling me impedance doesn't matter. I kept tell them these cans are going to be used in a low power setup so I want low impedance. Finally just told them just order what I want period. Got the phones and very happy with them.

    I have the MOTU M6 audio interface in my cart along with a few pairs of headphones.
    (I hear the MOTU M6 headphone amp provides 190mW @ 55ohms).
    A (seemingly wise) TH-cam audiophile told me to pair the M6 with 80Ω headphones.
    ...but a MOTU sales rep said that "headphones over 200Ω is optimal".
    Julian says that you should x8 the amp impedance with headphone impedance.
    ...but another tech TH-camr said to _match_ the amp/headphone impedance.
    _WHAT GIVES!?_

      @shul5684 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your interface usually has more than enough power to push volume. You should consider getting a headphone amp if you crack your volume knob all the way up and you don't get enough volume. This is more noticeable in cellphones. Put in a 250ohm on your cellphone and then put a regular cheap headphone and you will see a drastic volume difference.

    • @gersongomez1876
      @gersongomez1876 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @sweetwater

      Hi, Jeff! A headphone amp wouldn't be necessary for the 80 Ohm version of those headphones. You should be totally fine without one. Hope that helps, and thanks for reaching out!

      I'm still not sure what kind of amp section the Focusrite interfaces are equipped with. One thing for sure is the MacBook alone will not have enough amp power
      for really driving those phones. And if the Audio interface volume out is too quiet with the Beyers, I would get a good solid desktop headphone amp and
      use that between the MacBook and the interface, for sure.

    i am trying to side chain and master tracks. would a 250 ohm pair of headphones and an amp help me with hearing the difference of an unmastered track and a mastered track ?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Andrew, good question! While high impedance headphones can definitely perform very linearly and deliver very precise audio, they also require a much more robust headphone amp to run properly. Because of that, they are not a solution all by themselves. If you are running a USB Bus powered interface like a 2i2, you would likely not be able to power 250 ohm headphones properly to get the sound levels you desire. Couple things we can do at this point. We can use a proper headphone amp with the high impedance headphones, like the Little Labs Monotor. There are also just some fantastic low impedance headphones that are extremely detailed and neutral in response like the Shure SRH1540.
      If you would like to dig in, please give me a ring!

      Hey, Alex! We have quite a few options, but a couple of my favorites are the Rupert Neve headphone amp, or the RME DA converter:
      www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ADI2DACFS--rme-adi-2-dac-fs-2-channel-da-converter

      Either of these options will give you plenty of output to properly drive those headphones.

    I have creative G6 (handles up to 600ohms) for gaming, will I see a difference in sound quality with a DT 770 pro 80 or 250ohms? I understand the power side of things, more power needed to handle higher ohms, but no one actually talks about quality of the sound. e.g. If my setup has no issue handling 80 or 250ohms, and sound output is similar (don't like it to high) is there any sound quality differences>?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, Guy! This is a great question, and one without a simple answer. Impedance refers to the current a device consumes in order to operate - or in more technical terms, a device’s resistance to electrical current. More so than anything, the design of the headphone will impact impedance as well as sound quality, but the two are not necessarily linked. There are low impedance headphones that arguably sound better than high impedance headphones. It just depends.
      The DT770s are a great example to look at. As the impedance of the models increase, the diameter of the wires in the voice coil decrease, allowing for smaller gaps between windings and because of this, a greater magnetic field and thus less distortion. This article goes into great detail on this topic:

      I own the CLabs G6 and use it for my primary PC and desktop amp and to drive some powered Logitech 2.1 THX speakers. The G6 will power both DT versions,'
      but I think what you'll find is that you'll have to crank the G6 volume higher to get a similar output overall level from the 250 ohms version as compared to the 80
      ohm version, or under. That seems to true with my two different pairs of Hifiman planar headphones, even though they're low impedance mainly, they still
      require more juice to get the same level as my dynamic phones or IEMs. I only need a tenth of power on the G6 to drive say, a basic pair of dynamic IEMs
      or headphones. As for sound quality, the 250 ohm version may actually sound better overall than the 80 ohm version, but that's difficult to say. I have the G6
      so I would think they would both sound similar, but require more power for the 250 ohm version to drive them, at least. You may have better results for the 250
      ohm Beyers with a much better and more powerful headphone amp., like a better IFI amp, or an AudioEngine desktop amp, etc. There could be a world
      of quality difference between the 80 and 250 ohm Beyers, but you'd have to test both with the same amp (and/or different amps) to find out for sure.

    At the end of the day all you care about is to find out if given hp amp can deliver high enough voltage to your high impedance headphones to enable loud enough playback. Unfortunately those specs are not published, instead they publish impedances, mW@Z figures, all irrelevant if your hp amp can not deliver amplitude to take advantage of its full power in case of high impedance cans.
    You can not drive 250ohm headphones wirh amp with 300mV maximum output level.

    • @thiscorrosion900
      @thiscorrosion900 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, a waste of money and time, you would need to invest in a very robust amp of whatever kind that can drive those headphones efficiently, and with some
      power to spare.

    This is not quite true! What drives headphone impedance is amper turns. All things being equal, a headphone of 200 ohms vs. an 8 ohm headphone is that the 200 ohm unit will draw less current hence making your battery last longer. What makes a 200 ohm headphone is MORE WIRE, AND THINNER WIRE. This results in a greater magnetic field with the same input current and hence the same volume with reduced current draw. In the days of Crystal Radios, headphones of up to 4000 ohms were used to get sufficient volume from the miniscule current provided by the no-power radio!

      Hey, Alvaro. Thanks for reaching out! You may or may not need a headphone amp for your DT700 depending on what you’re using them for. Typically it’s best to just try them out and if they are too quiet just get a simple headphone amp and you’ll be good to go. If you have any other questions feel free to call or email!

      That impedance is not super high, but it's not super low, either. You would probably benefit from a good solid headphone amp with those, or a good desktop
      headphone amp. I just picked up the fantastic IFI XCan amp, (portable) and at 1000mw a channel mono power per channel, let me tell you it can drive
      almost any low-high impedance headphone or IEM within reason. It powers my Hifiman HE400SEs with ease, although even at 32 ohms, those still
      require a bit more juice from the IFI xCan than say, a pair of Koss PortaPros that I also tested it with. (The Koss I only have to crank to say, 6, relative volume,
      but the Hifimans a good 8 to get a good listening level going for the same source or track. Plus enabling XBass and wide image effects)

    an impedance mismatch can make even the best gear sound bad. the amp is just as key as the phones.
    the real test of that argument would be to do a shootout between the 3 different DT770's on a variety of output devices.
    let's hear the difference or are they just blowing smoke.

    • @thiscorrosion900
      @thiscorrosion900 ปีที่แล้ว

      Each higher impedance version will likely sound and perform better with a matching more powerful and better quality amp. Of course, within that,
      a lot is still subjective. But if you expect a 600 ohm headphone to sound good on a tiny weak amp of some kind, or a phone with NO amp, well,
      you're insane!

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Greg! The ohms (impedance) that you’re looking for will depend on what hardware you’re connecting the headphones to. The higher the impedance, the more powerful your headphone amp needs to be. For that reason, consumer grade headphone outputs like those on your laptop, phone and tablet tend to do best with lower impedance headphones. Standalone headphone amps and many interfaces will do great with higher impedance headphones.
      I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you’d like help figuring out what will work with a particular interface or headphone amp that you have.

      If you're just running headphones out of your Macbook or audio interface with no real amp involved, you need LOW impedance headphones. If you put a good solid
      amp/DAC etc. between the MacBook, audio interface etc., you can use higher impedance phones or IEMs and/or better quality studio reference type headphones,
      such as say, the AKG 701s, which will require a lot more power to drive and hear. It's also a good idea to have a good monitor speaker system (amped) with a subwoofer
      if you can swing it, in room, to hear your mixes and productions. Headphones are great for monitoring or mixing, editing, etc., but not necessarily for judging
      your final mixdown or mastering product.

    That just simply is not true, or better say some misleading about requirements of amp. for headphones. At least I can drive 250Ohm Bayer Dynamics from laptops, computers with defaut integrated sound card and have ZERO issues with volume level, most of the time I set even 25%, while most integrated solutions is not that bad. Might phone is not handle it, didn't try, but who will use DT770 250omh on the phone?.... So, I would say, that you can easily use 250ohm headphones on any device like PC etc without "mandatory" audiointerface.

    • @thiscorrosion900
      @thiscorrosion900 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really? Most PCs, tablets and phones have no decent amp built in, and also, no decent EQ apps. or any other such software. If you expect a basic laptop or phone
      to get the most out of 250 or higher phones, well, I don't think that's going to happen. It's a total waste of time. You can get 100000x better quality and volume
      and performance out of higher impedance headphones with a good amp of some kind. Not a $30 one, you need to invest some real money and then
      you'll hear those 250 ohmers shine.

    • @DadRockAndGuitars
      @DadRockAndGuitars 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm just guessing, but probably because with higher impedance headphones, you'd need to turn the volume up higher on your phone to get the same headphone volume as lower impedance headphones. So with lower impedance headphones, you might normally run at half volume, but with higher impedance headphones, you'd need to crank it all the way up for it to sound as loud.Takes more battery power to run the volume louder. Again, that's my guess.

    • @zbyszekolko3998

      That statement hardly makes any sense. You can ignore it.

    • @thiscorrosion900
      @thiscorrosion900 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why, because, the higher impedance headphones suck that much more power out of your device because you will need to crank the amp or device(s) that much
      higher to get a decent sound level out of them. If you use regular low imp. dynamic phones or IEMS, you will never need to crank the volume nearly as high
      as high imp. phones to get a decent volume and quality out of them. If you try running 600 ohm headphones on some tiny shitty DAP with no amp,
      or even a small lower power headphone amp, or both, you will kill the batteries very fast and may not even be able to achieve a listenable level from those
      headphones, and the quality will be shit, anyway. 600 ohm phones are made for the studio, for use with a high power amp or rack amp or etc. They are not
      made to be run from tiny consumer devices.
