It would only really be in place of Psywave, and explicitly for Snorlax. Perhaps Leftovers or something may be a good idea, but as Snorlax was the major hurdle and Shadow Ball and Psychic would handle the other Pokemon, I think for the Red fight specifically Curse would have been a good idea with only Snorlax in mind, as it would prevent being PP stalled by something you cant break.

I was thinking he came out close to last and I thought there was a good chance of either not having enough health to survive curse or risk getting one-shot by whatever came out next if it outsped him. I was still halfway through the video when I commented and I haven't play gold or silver in years and misremembered some of that fight/ mixed it up with changes added to heartgold and soulsilver.
@@python1972 Way easier in SS with greater move list, in particular Roost for healing and Serene Grace for cheese tactics. Roost, Glare, Headbutt and Rock Slide/Bite could solo basically anything.
Mismagius is one of the few cool evolutions added in Gen 4. From the top of my head, Honchcrow, Roserade and Gallade are also among the best, design-wise. The rest is either alright or look just terrible.

I'm guilty of generally just gendering the Pokemon based on general design. Misdreavus and its evolution in particular look female so I'd always refer to them like that. Same with Machamp who looks like a dude so I'll call him a dude. 😛

Mismagius is pretty great too (one of the few 4th gen evolutions to previous Pokémon I actually like), I just like Misdreavus' design a little bit more.
I have one for you: Can you beat pokemon with only one week off? You're sounding a bit more fatigued overall week by week, and I'm sure few would mind you taking time for your own health and sanity.
I think a smeargle only challenge would be interesting, it has an unparalleled move pool if you're smart about it but it also requires a good bit of strategy and it's stats aren't all that great
Do ditto. at one point in the run ditto turns into youngster Joey and reminds everyone to follow you on Twitter. Earlier regions will be harder as ditto cannot have imposter. Maybe the fossil is a transformed ditto too.
I always wished Morty used a Misdreavus on his team. I always thought it was a cool Pokemon. Johto was so bad with that though. Not showing off the new Pokemon in the gyms. Outside of Steelix, Piloswine, Kingdra, and Miltank.
I literally own one pokemon game, it's Soulsilver and I've never heard of this pokemon before in my life. Now I know what Mismagius is, but never heard of this thing. pre-evolution
Johto really messed up with showing the new Pokemon. A half of the gym leaders use only kanto mons and even the elite 4 doesn’t use a lot of gen2 ones. The champion also has 0 johto mons ffs. They could’ve easily given a tyranitar to karen, slowking to will, heracross to bruno/chuck and any early flying type to falkner
@@axyzsz8162 YES! Why Will didnt use a Slowking especially pisses me off! Heracross on Chuck's team in addition to Poliwrath and Primeape would've been an awesome battle. And hell, even throwing Skarmory onto Jasmine's team wouldve been pretty cool.
Personally I didn't mind it even if I do concede that its a problem. But Johto is basically another half of Kanto with considerably less Pokemon comparatively. They are halves of the same whole. But I do find it weird how some mons aren't considered like Misdreavus wasn't used by Morty or HootHoot by Falkner. However I do think the one's they chose are the ones good enough to be aces, as with a tradition of most games newer mons tend to be Gym leader aces. But Gen 2 has among the weakest roster in the series. I can get Heracross not being on Chuck's team because Heracross didn't have a good moveset in Gen 2 (outside of competitive) but Hitmontop should've been considered at least. Plus Scyther did have Scizor as an evolution in Bugsy's case (though why wasn't Spinarak at least considered?)
i’m early, here’s a few challenge video requests!: - can you beat pokemon platinum with only sableye with the Stall ability? - can you beat pokemon colosseum with only umbreon / espeon? - can you beat pokemon HGSS with only beldum? (HGSS is the most interesting to do this challenge in thanks to the headbutt tutor imo) - can you beat pokemon emerald with only a team of 6 smeargle?
Beldum's run in HGSS is impossible due to Morty and its Ghost types, since Beldum only knows naturally Take Down and Headbutt (both Normal type moves). It can learn by tutor too Iron Head and Zen Headbutt, but that would make the challenge too easy (except maybe for Jasmine)
Prior to Gen 4 a move being physical or special was determined by type, not the move itself. In Gen 2 the only physical moves the Totadile line can learn that can damage ghosts comes from TM's.
Which fossil did you take? Have to ask, I've heard it's good for the TH-cam algorithm. Also, I would like to see a play through with poochyena if you have time for it. Any game, just a single poochyena.

If you were worried about power points early on, you could have taught Misdreavus the move "Swift" that you can find in the cave before Azalea town. Another option before Misdreavus reaches level 27, would be to teach it Headbutt that you can find in Ilex Forest. Just thought it would be helpful to point this out for next time. Overall, I knew for sure you'd win. (Because Misdreavus is actually a good pokemon) xD
Since you always ask for suggestions, I'll attempt to post mine again! I think it'll be a fun challenge, and it would get away from the static formula of "one weak Pokémon, grind to a high level and win." I call it Poké-Roulette. The basic gist is as follows: 1. You can catch and use any Pokémon you'd like. However, you must throw at least one pokéball at every wild Pokémon you encounter. 2. You may only use the most recent 6 Pokémon you've acquired (caught, hatched, were gifted, etc.) in battle. 3. You may only use the best pokéballs (poké, great, ultra, master) available to you. 4. No BUYING Repels. However, the repels found on the ground are allowed. Otherwise, the standard rules apply: HM Pokémon can be used even when they're not your most recent 6, they just can't battle, no items in battle, etc. As for what game, it needs to be one with a fair number of caves and water routes, but not too many. I love HeartGold, so maybe HeartGold? It has Union Cave, the routes to Cianwood, Ice Path, Tohjo Falls, Victory Road... a fair number, but smart navigation could limit random catches devastating your team. Plus grinding would be counter-productive, as once you're out of trainers, wild encounters could keep resetting your team's levels. I think it'd be a fun and different challenge - here's hoping you find the idea interesting! But even if not, I'll keep coming back for more :) . Keep up the great work!
I would love to see a sword/shield challenge of any kind, maybe with just one zigzagoon or maybe another shuckle challenge? I just really wanna see sword and shield
The big problem is that there are no SwSh ROMs right now so there’s no easy way to randomize the game. To be a real challenge, he would have to exclusively use a starter, and all the starters are good in that game
@ARTEM DORDZHIEV I did this challenge, level 100 Blipbug with good nature and egg moves recover and supersonic. Even with all of that, its impossible as far as I can tell Try Snom! It has a ton more moves and strategies
Tyler Fisher does breeding not hatch them at level one? Cuz if so he could be the eggs and trade then over to another game where he will do the run (maybe ask a friend to breed the eggs for him)
I’d suggest doing an HM Slave run! You can only use the attacks that you give it to progress the game. For example, if you need rock smash, you give it to the Pokémon and you have to use it. Someone could probably explain it better but that’s my idea.

Really liked this challenge. Misdreavus is my favorite ghost type! For further challenges I suggest: Ledyba, Hoppip (I figure it'll be easier than a magikarp run but still fairly challenging), Bellsprout or maybe sneazle.
i just started my first randomized of heart gold and my starter is Misdreavus, first time i’ve ever used one before and gave me a new appreciation for the pokemon

Hey, Mah-Dry-Bread. Looking at your struggles with Snorlax, I thought of a few alternative options you could've used. Looking them up, I noticed that Misdreavus can learn Return, Zap Cannon, and Thunder in Gen 2; so you could've tried paralyzing Snorlax or using Return to attack, especially since Snorlax is already more of a Special wall. Still, great video as always; I look forward to the next!
Paralysis on Snorlax doesn't matter because it can Rest it away and was already slower, Confusing was the best play. Also Mistreavus has bad physical attack so it wouldn't do much even with Return, Shadow Ball is the only worth it physical move.
Awesome! I've been wanting to see a misdreavus run, they became a surprising favorite pokemon in my soul silver game. He was named Dave and he kicked butt.
Misdreavus is one of my favorite pokemon, so I've actually done this run in the past before. I've also done this with just an arbok; not ekans though. I play favorites, not whats the hardest with pokemon. So, was neat to see this run.
@@justanormalguy649 I saw other ditto challenge runs, and they spent more time spamming struggle than using transform. And I thought it defeated the purpose.
The issue is, most enemys dont use 6 Pokemon so you basically can 1v1 your counterpart easily and even if 1 or 2 still kills their counter Ditto, you still got a reserve in your back

Inspired by these challenge runs, I just finished Crystal run with Rocky, the trade Onix from Violet city. It was great fun what with few rocky points.
That's easy. Most opponents in GSC are weak to Fighting. The only challenges are Lance, Red and maybe Bugsy and Morty. Then again, Machop can learn the elemental punches from the Goldenrod Department Store. Even if Machop isn't a special attacker, they're good attacks. And Return can pack a punch against everyone (almost).
@@taupeleader1011 Well yes but remember you can only use moves from wild pokemon and you have to luck out that they use the move you want first turn or else you have to soft reset. You also only get one move every 10 levels.
@@Joker-fq6yx The beginning would be potentially slow, yes. But so was the Magicarp run. If the first sketch ends up being a non-damaging move, then Smeargle can struggle to level 11. If Smeargle is faster then the opponent, then it can stall for time with the non-damaging move until the opponent uses a damaging move. Then Smeargle can Sketch it the following turn, and the run can proceed.
Nice! You don't get to see Misdreavus that much, I'm glad you used it. Out of curiosity, I wonder why didn't you use other TMs on Misdreavus for Snorlax, like Return - it's physical so it wouldn't be affected by Amnesia.
Misdreavus maybe have some problems with her moveset, probably the final moveset will be : psychic,shadow ball just for stab,maybe toxic and double team? Idk I just want to leave a comment,it's good for the TH-cam algorithm
No. Perish song, psychic, and thunderbolt and then something else. Perish song is the signature move of misdreavus and can be used to win difficult fights at low levels

That, and I believe you can only get Misdreavus naturally right before Red, but I could be mistaken on that. At least, that's the place I could reliably find it from my memories in my childhood.
You could have replaced psywave with curse holding leftovers, it's learn with a tm in Celeadon city in GS. If anything I'm amazed you never used it for red with other pokemon in GS runs, extra attack and defense on already slow Pokemon would have helped you loads and the one time you use a defensive ghost you would have been full health by the time Snorlax fainted.
He also could have used Hidden Power. With luck, it could be Fighting type! Or Return. That's also good. Being physical isn't an issue because Shadow Ball is physical and he used it. I know it's STAB but it's still physical.
@@UnusualPete STAB with base 80 power and a chance for Sp. Defense drops AND has type coverage, while Return hits nothing super-effectively and can't hurt Steel, Rock or Ghost types very much (or at all). It likely wouldn't have helped much on Snorlax other than its base PP possibly out-stalling Rest turns. Even an HP Fighting wouldn't have done much considering its low BP (60 I believe is its max) and it has 5 less PP than Return at base. Any way you look at it, Snorlax was a brick wall that needed luck to break through, and he got his luck he needed.

I was gonna suggest Thunder, but you didn't need it. You could have used Pain Split on a high HP Snorlax, taught Defense Curl to PP stall his rests, or taught Nightmare when Snorlax is asleep.
I totally just binge-watched all of your pokemon challenges in like 2 days haha! I would love to see a ditto only run, I think it would be interesting and require a lot of strategy. I love your videos!

@Otacon464 I disagree. The whole reason Gallade was created was because fans found a male Gardevoir far too odd. The design for Kirlia is also very much female with ralts being the only androgynous one. However, I understand that this opinion is subjective, I'll tell you there is a very, very good reason why Gardevoir is considered a waifu trope alongside Lopunny, Tsareena, etc. Even if you don't think her design is inherently female, plenty of other people do.

Not surprised it was so easy. Misdreavus is pretty good in Gen 2, thanks to its typing, Perish Song, access to Confuse Ray and pretty decent stats. Its way stronger than some of the challenges you've done previously.
He already does that, basically. He only used Shadow Ball because of STAB. Most of the time, there are incredible TMs or move tutors and he still doesn't teach anything. Go figure.
You should do a Run of Platinum with only the Piplup line, as Empoleon can learn every HM except Fly. It may sound easy but the fact Empoleon’s moveset would mainly be HM’s would make it way harder.

So, according to Gold canon, Red cleaned Professor Oak out of all 3 Starters and Blue was stuck walking 5 steps out of town for a Pidgey. I mean he's still Top Gym Leader of Kanto so I guess it didn't hold him back.

I'd love to see a run with Dunsparce, he's a favourite from my childhood since I found him in Dark cave.
It's definitely possible, there's even a speedrun using Dunsparce though that was Soulsilver
I just completed a dunsparce run of crystal, it was honestly pretty easy. The gengar line not having levitate so your digs hit is pretty cool

I'm guilty of generally just gendering the Pokemon based on general design. Misdreavus and its evolution in particular look female so I'd always refer to them like that. Same with Machamp who looks like a dude so I'll call him a dude. 😛

I think a smeargle only challenge would be interesting, it has an unparalleled move pool if you're smart about it but it also requires a good bit of strategy and it's stats aren't all that great
Do ditto. at one point in the run ditto turns into youngster Joey and reminds everyone to follow you on Twitter. Earlier regions will be harder as ditto cannot have imposter. Maybe the fossil is a transformed ditto too.
Actually later gens might be harder as imposter removes the use of struggle as a strategy

I always wished Morty used a Misdreavus on his team. I always thought it was a cool Pokemon.
Johto was so bad with that though. Not showing off the new Pokemon in the gyms. Outside of Steelix, Piloswine, Kingdra, and Miltank.

Johto really messed up with showing the new Pokemon. A half of the gym leaders use only kanto mons and even the elite 4 doesn’t use a lot of gen2 ones. The champion also has 0 johto mons ffs. They could’ve easily given a tyranitar to karen, slowking to will, heracross to bruno/chuck and any early flying type to falkner

Personally I didn't mind it even if I do concede that its a problem. But Johto is basically another half of Kanto with considerably less Pokemon comparatively. They are halves of the same whole. But I do find it weird how some mons aren't considered like Misdreavus wasn't used by Morty or HootHoot by Falkner. However I do think the one's they chose are the ones good enough to be aces, as with a tradition of most games newer mons tend to be Gym leader aces. But Gen 2 has among the weakest roster in the series.
I can get Heracross not being on Chuck's team because Heracross didn't have a good moveset in Gen 2 (outside of competitive) but Hitmontop should've been considered at least. Plus Scyther did have Scizor as an evolution in Bugsy's case (though why wasn't Spinarak at least considered?)

Beldum's run in HGSS is impossible due to Morty and its Ghost types, since Beldum only knows naturally Take Down and Headbutt (both Normal type moves). It can learn by tutor too Iron Head and Zen Headbutt, but that would make the challenge too easy (except maybe for Jasmine)

Prior to Gen 4 a move being physical or special was determined by type, not the move itself. In Gen 2 the only physical moves the Totadile line can learn that can damage ghosts comes from TM's.

If you were worried about power points early on, you could have taught Misdreavus the move "Swift" that you can find in the cave before Azalea town. Another option before Misdreavus reaches level 27, would be to teach it Headbutt that you can find in Ilex Forest. Just thought it would be helpful to point this out for next time.

Since you always ask for suggestions, I'll attempt to post mine again! I think it'll be a fun challenge, and it would get away from the static formula of "one weak Pokémon, grind to a high level and win."
I call it Poké-Roulette. The basic gist is as follows:
1. You can catch and use any Pokémon you'd like. However, you must throw at least one pokéball at every wild Pokémon you encounter.
2. You may only use the most recent 6 Pokémon you've acquired (caught, hatched, were gifted, etc.) in battle.
3. You may only use the best pokéballs (poké, great, ultra, master) available to you.
4. No BUYING Repels. However, the repels found on the ground are allowed.
Otherwise, the standard rules apply: HM Pokémon can be used even when they're not your most recent 6, they just can't battle, no items in battle, etc.
As for what game, it needs to be one with a fair number of caves and water routes, but not too many. I love HeartGold, so maybe HeartGold? It has Union Cave, the routes to Cianwood, Ice Path, Tohjo Falls, Victory Road... a fair number, but smart navigation could limit random catches devastating your team.
Plus grinding would be counter-productive, as once you're out of trainers, wild encounters could keep resetting your team's levels. I think it'd be a fun and different challenge - here's hoping you find the idea interesting!
But even if not, I'll keep coming back for more :) . Keep up the great work!

The big problem is that there are no SwSh ROMs right now so there’s no easy way to randomize the game. To be a real challenge, he would have to exclusively use a starter, and all the starters are good in that game

@ARTEM DORDZHIEV I did this challenge, level 100 Blipbug with good nature and egg moves recover and supersonic. Even with all of that, its impossible as far as I can tell

I’d suggest doing an HM Slave run! You can only use the attacks that you give it to progress the game. For example, if you need rock smash, you give it to the Pokémon and you have to use it. Someone could probably explain it better but that’s my idea.

For further challenges I suggest: Ledyba, Hoppip (I figure it'll be easier than a magikarp run but still fairly challenging), Bellsprout or maybe sneazle.

Hey, Mah-Dry-Bread. Looking at your struggles with Snorlax, I thought of a few alternative options you could've used. Looking them up, I noticed that Misdreavus can learn Return, Zap Cannon, and Thunder in Gen 2; so you could've tried paralyzing Snorlax or using Return to attack, especially since Snorlax is already more of a Special wall. Still, great video as always; I look forward to the next!
Paralysis on Snorlax doesn't matter because it can Rest it away and was already slower, Confusing was the best play. Also Mistreavus has bad physical attack so it wouldn't do much even with Return, Shadow Ball is the only worth it physical move.
Funny thing is that misdrevus is k n o w n for being a good snorlax matchup in gen 2 ou
He never seems to best practice in his runs. He ends up winning so it works but he often makes life harder for himself than he needs to.

Misdreavus is one of my favorite pokemon, so I've actually done this run in the past before. I've also done this with just an arbok; not ekans though. I play favorites, not whats the hardest with pokemon. So, was neat to see this run.

The issue is, most enemys dont use 6 Pokemon so you basically can 1v1 your counterpart easily and even if 1 or 2 still kills their counter Ditto, you still got a reserve in your back

That's easy. Most opponents in GSC are weak to Fighting. The only challenges are Lance, Red and maybe Bugsy and Morty.
Then again, Machop can learn the elemental punches from the Goldenrod Department Store. Even if Machop isn't a special attacker, they're good attacks.
And Return can pack a punch against everyone (almost).
Getting PP stalled into dying from struggle recoil is such a Red move...

@@taupeleader1011 Well yes but remember you can only use moves from wild pokemon and you have to luck out that they use the move you want first turn or else you have to soft reset. You also only get one move every 10 levels.

The beginning would be potentially slow, yes. But so was the Magicarp run.
If the first sketch ends up being a non-damaging move, then Smeargle can struggle to level 11. If Smeargle is faster then the opponent, then it can stall for time with the non-damaging move until the opponent uses a damaging move. Then Smeargle can Sketch it the following turn, and the run can proceed.

No. Perish song, psychic, and thunderbolt and then something else. Perish song is the signature move of misdreavus and can be used to win difficult fights at low levels

That, and I believe you can only get Misdreavus naturally right before Red, but I could be mistaken on that. At least, that's the place I could reliably find it from my memories in my childhood.
You could have replaced psywave with curse holding leftovers, it's learn with a tm in Celeadon city in GS.
If anything I'm amazed you never used it for red with other pokemon in GS runs, extra attack and defense on already slow Pokemon would have helped you loads and the one time you use a defensive ghost you would have been full health by the time Snorlax fainted.
He also could have used Hidden Power. With luck, it could be Fighting type! Or Return. That's also good.
Being physical isn't an issue because Shadow Ball is physical and he used it. I know it's STAB but it's still physical.
@@UnusualPete STAB with base 80 power and a chance for Sp. Defense drops AND has type coverage, while Return hits nothing super-effectively and can't hurt Steel, Rock or Ghost types very much (or at all). It likely wouldn't have helped much on Snorlax other than its base PP possibly out-stalling Rest turns. Even an HP Fighting wouldn't have done much considering its low BP (60 I believe is its max) and it has 5 less PP than Return at base.
Any way you look at it, Snorlax was a brick wall that needed luck to break through, and he got his luck he needed.
I was definitely surprised. I thought it would be wayyyyy harder than it was. Plus you kept Psywave until the very end and I didn’t expect that. Awesome run, MDB! 😄

I was gonna suggest Thunder, but you didn't need it. You could have used Pain Split on a high HP Snorlax, taught Defense Curl to PP stall his rests, or taught Nightmare when Snorlax is asleep.

In all fairness, misdrevious's design is inherently female, kinda like Gardevoir prior to Gallade's inclusion.
@@DemBigOlEyes That's true, though I find it kind of cringey in general when people refer to Pokemon as he/she. In the anime and the games it's always "it" regardless of gender.
@Otacon464 I disagree. The whole reason Gallade was created was because fans found a male Gardevoir far too odd. The design for Kirlia is also very much female with ralts being the only androgynous one. However, I understand that this opinion is subjective, I'll tell you there is a very, very good reason why Gardevoir is considered a waifu trope alongside Lopunny, Tsareena, etc. Even if you don't think her design is inherently female, plenty of other people do.

Not surprised it was so easy. Misdreavus is pretty good in Gen 2, thanks to its typing, Perish Song, access to Confuse Ray and pretty decent stats. Its way stronger than some of the challenges you've done previously.
Misdreavus was so cool to find for the first time, but kinda “meh” overall. One of those to collect and forget.

He only used Shadow Ball because of STAB. Most of the time, there are incredible TMs or move tutors and he still doesn't teach anything.

You should do a Run of Platinum with only the Piplup line, as Empoleon can learn every HM except Fly. It may sound easy but the fact Empoleon’s moveset would mainly be HM’s would make it way harder.

So, according to Gold canon, Red cleaned Professor Oak out of all 3 Starters and Blue was stuck walking 5 steps out of town for a Pidgey.
