Hans I just ordered the same gramxpert tarp thanks to you, can't wait to set it up and enjoy no condensation with my X-Mid solid 2p tent. Thank you so much for making this video! I will be using one Ruta Locura trekking pole instead of the Durston flick pole, one reason is because it weighs just 106 grams, which is just 13 grams heavier than the Durston Flick Pole, but I get an extra trekking pole in case one breaks. And the cool reason is that it also serves as my fishing pole with the Ruta Locura fishing kit, which uses the trekking pole as part of the fishing pole to save weight! Thank you for the inspiration Hans!
@@hanskirk-hiking9697tie a bit of 3mm bungie to the inner and run it though the loop of the fly with a toggle on the outside to hold it - works a treat. I don't use the magnets (I cut them off)
I've been playing around with tarps and the Xmid 2p. Initially, I used a 3x3m tarp and that's great, but the poly tarp weighed 700gr with lines and stakes. It's great for sharing with others when camping in a group. It was also relatively cheap at $50 from Ali Express. I then went to a silnylon tarp, still 3x3m but weighing 400gr. That's better in terms of weight saving, but I'm a bit more concerned about shared use because others might not be as gentle with it as I would be, and this was quite an expensive tarp, relatively speaking (AU$150 for a DD superlight). More recently, I got a $30 silnylon tarp (150gr tarp alone, 200gr with stakes and lines) from Ali Express, 210x150cm and will try that for my next trip. Nice video.
Hi Praktika very interesting, I'm not the only one with the tarp idea, ha ha - I was thinking about getting a tarp theres a little bit wider, to better protect the door from rain. If I could have a custom made tarp I would try with 2x2m. What would you propose for the ideal size? And thanks for your comment, very helpful and interesting.
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 i like 3x3m, specially when I'm on a group trip with 2-3 others. Hi Hans, Thankyou for such a wonderful breakdown of an ingenious modification to the X-mid 😊 I was always tempted by the Xmid for its low weight but the absence of an awning put me off.
