Bumblebee is probably one of the most iconic and unique marks of the franchise After Optimus and megatron
Oh, he's above Megatron. Hasbro have made three TV series without Megatron in the last decade, but Bee was in all of them!

Honestly I really like both the bayverse and aligned continuity bumblebees, because he's kind and friendly, but he is also a capable warrior when it comes down to it

Honestly well I'm not a huge fan of the Michael Bay movies, I do think they are a big reason why Bumblebee is the icon he is now. Which I am a little grateful for. Namely the iconic concept of him missing his voice box.
Dylan O'brien's voice role as Bumblebee in the opening minutes of the 2018 Bumblebee movie will always be the definitive version of the character for me. It's just a few voice lines but they are such well-casted and well-performed voice lines that I'm disappointed he was mute for the rest of the movie, and even more so that Dylan won't be returning to the role for Rise Of The Beasts.
You could say...Dylan O'brien was offlined by a cosmically empowered Starscream.
Dude, I 100% agree with you about Dylan O'brien as the voice actor for Bumblebee from the Bumblebee movie! Despite that he had a few lines for bee and is now a muted character, I can definitely tell that Dylan put effort in sounding like a young friendly and a naive scout who isn't afraid to take down deceptions and protect the humans because that's what makes him a true hero. In my personal opinion, Dylan O'brien is the definitive voice actor for Bumblebee.

For me, it’s either Dan Gilvezan for the classic G1 ‘Bee, or Danny Pudi for a modern take. But Dylan O’Brien did an extremely solid job with the brief screen time his version of Bumblebee got.

I feel the the spin-off movie kinda strayed more into Bee’s G1 characterisation, he was alot more cutsey in that movie, which I don’t mind although I still do prefer his Bayverse characterisation

Bayverse is my least favorite iteration of the character simply because of his gimmick of not being able to talk. It was cute in the first movie, but then quickly wore out its welcome after ROTF.

I find it interesting that the War for Cybertron series on Netflix decided to have Bumblebee disagree with entering the war at the start but end up joining. In the Aligned Continuity video games, he volunteered willingly for the war effort, first as a simple messenger before becoming a soldier under Optimus Prime.
Well each one of these time-lines is a different universe.

Cheetor is the missing link between G1 Bumblebee and Hot Rod to Hot Shot and the new versions of bumblebee in the kid appeal evolution line. It was awesome to see Cheetor,Bee and Hot Rod together in Cyberverse
I really like the idea of Bumblebee becoming the successor of Optimus Prime as leader of the Autobots. Keep that on him, please.
I remember watching the original Bumblebee basics recently and when it got to the part about the movie releasing soon I went "man, this is missing so much now!" I'm glad it got updated, even if the post movie content was only 4 items, it's still very satisfying
In the Beast Wars the cheetah was like the Bumblebee character from what I remember
Goldbug is underused. Every time he appears, either it's very brief, or he literally goes back to being Bumblebee. I like the idea of Bee getting a literal physical upgrade to go alongside his character growth, like Orion Pax to Optimus. Plus Goldbug honestly looks cooler than G1 Bee, IMO.
Goldbug should be an upgraded version of Bumblebee, so once Bee becomes Goldbug, there is no going back. In my headcanon Bumblebee changes into Goldbug after sustaining life threading injuries or almost getting destroyed.
I miss Goldbug a lot as well.
I definitely agree Goldbug is definitely underused nowadays. Not only barely any toys, but also never using him as an upgrade of Bumblebee since Hasbro never wants to get rid of him.

Alot of the Upgraded characters have been separated into new entities, I tend to notice;
IDW1 and IDW2 Cyclonus isn't a Spawn of Unicron, but a bot from the distant past of Cybertron.
Same with IDW1 Galvatron who isn't Megatron pimped-out by Unicron.
Soundblaster has COMPLETLEY morphed into a separate character from Soundwave.
And ofcourse, Goldbug was separated from Bumbles for IDW1, becoming his own character.
When's Shackwave gonna join the party?
I'm surprised you didn't mention how the bumblebee movie directly paralleled bumblebees first comic appearance, with how he was introduced to both spike witwicky and Charlie Watson, being recovered as a junker and repaired in their garage

Bumblebee was my favourite character as a kid, along with Grimlock and Wheeljack (so I think that who decided that he was the correct choice as a children appeal character was right) and the G2 version of him was one of the two originals toys I could buy then.
I prefer him with his original cheerful personalty, not because I'm against any evolution of the character but because it deprives us of other characters as Hot Shot, who become redundant. I also don't understand the current obsession of making him an angry guy.
Bumblebee may be the smallest member of the group,

I will always like the more “edgier” interpretation of Bumblebee. I think those interpretations are the best character arcs and evolution for a character like him. I grew up with Bay/Animated/Prime Bumblebee so, it’s safe to say I’ve seen the vast different interpretations of him very early on. I’ve always found him going into a leadership role to be the most fitting for his character. Having him start off as a lighthearted/hotheaded character before slowly morphing into a serious and grizzled leader is great. Going from “little brother” to essentially “big brother” is by far the best way to handle a character like him. I personally hope this will become his big character traits defining him going forward because, Bumblebee will always be the best fit for it. Hot Rod was a character made specifically for the 1986 movie that came to take Primes role as leader and, it always felt way too forced. Bumblebee on the other hand is natural growth, he’s essentially growing up with the audience and I will always see him as the true successor to Optimus Primes leadership more than anyone else.
I agree very much so. I didn’t like him being against you for the sake of angst you later on in the bay films, but to be honest with you, I still feel chills when I pretty much hear anything from the original beavers films. Also I agree, prime is the best version. There’s a lot of issues with it, like there’s some racism in it but as long as we ignore the humans and just focus on the Cybertronians, Hannah. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s the portrayal of Meiko. Basically for anyone who doesn’t know, during that era, it was unfortunately and horrific like common for especially Americans to minimize Asian women and girls and especially Japanese women and girls especially in the young bracket as basically being exactly like the typical stereotype of an anime girl. I guess you could say another words, one dimensional personality, exuberant, immature and childlike. It would be one thing if there wasn’t that pre-context, as in it being made at a time when that was frighteningly common for Americans especially white Americans, but most Americans in general regardless of background tended to go along with this preconceived notion, which I’m assuming has to do with the trope of anime girls I guess, it’s probably just yet another way that white American culture has inadvertently belittled people from the other side of the world, but anyway I didn’t mean for this to get so political or anything basically Meeko is the stereotype that harmed a lot of people between the 80s 90s and 2000s, and probably if it was made today without that perspective it would be different or if it was made in Japan it would obviously just be because that’s just how the writer thought she should be written, but again growing up in the US and seeing that behavior of people actually thinking that’s how young Asian women operate, is really disturbing, and is why I consider the show a bit offensive. That doesn’t take away though the immense impact that transformersprime had on me, and overall, I do strongly believe it’s still the very best iteration of transformers to add all exist. I’m not a fan of Cyberverse, maybe because I’m a bit too attached to transformers prime and the bayverse and G one, but it feels very discombobulating when I try to watch it, you know? To be honest it also a little too much resembled how I wrote fanfiction‘s in my early adolescence at the heyday of my interest in transformers prime, you know, THAT era lol
Sorry for the long paragraph I use voice text which is very hard to compartmentalize. I guess also I get very into this topic as well, because I feel a lot of nostalgia for the show while there’s a lot of things in it that bother me greatly.

I do not really like the idea of Bee becoming leader. No.offense but he just doesn't scream leader to me. Warrior? Sure. But leader of the autobots? No way. Ratchet would be a better leader, especially when you ookm at his record and development across different TF shows.
@@zemox2534 Oh I totally agree. Or at least can we have a bit more of bumblebees development before that happens? Can we see him fumble? Something I realized is, and the beast hunters transformers prime film, he almost feels like one of those Mary Sue OCs you will see in a Wattpad story or something. This is because also earlier in the series, really only technically speaking canonically a few months before the very end of the series, he behaves more innocent and childlike. I always hate this about American series, it seems like it’s a trend. The character start off way different than they are literally three seasons later, it’s like they’ve matured by multiple years. If bumblebee ever were to become leader, I want to see him fumble and be uncomfortable is it the same way smokescreen was with becoming a prime. I don’t like that he’s portrayed as super perfect.

As much as I love Bumblebee, I think it's a shame how much of Hot Rod's place he's taken these days. I have such fond memories of the original 1986 movie, and I do miss Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime.
I do hope we get a series staring Hot Rod someday.

I think it's great considering that one of my biggest personal flaws with the original Transformers Movie is that they completly sidelined Bee and a role that whould've perfectly fit into him was givin to Hot Rod because toys, but I do understand where you're coming from and I also think he deserves more appretiation.

I always try to think of Bumblebee as a little short guy that hits really hard. He may be nice and soft with other Autobots and humans and may even be laughable at times, but he is a menace to his enemies, taking down Decepticons twice his size.

Been watching every one of these since I discovered your channel and the original Basics on Bumblebee Video back right before the pandemic started in early 2020.
Needless to say as a result of your videos the Transformers franchise is now just as much of an important part of my life, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and future as Legos and Pokémon.
While certainly the more mature, realistic, and dark and edgy part of it. I even finally finished watching Prime and Rescue Bots as I had only watched occasional episodes of the Aligned Continuity which started during my childhood around 2008.
So thank you for helping me realize a lot about myself from discovering the Transformers franchise and it's Fandom. It even helped me discover my sexuality as I knew I always like the Prime iteration of Knockout with his flamboyant, snarky, expressive, and passionate personality.
I said to myself If a giant 20 foot tall alien robot Scientist who transforms into a custom Red and Silver Aston Martin can be as comfortable with himself faults and all then damnit, so can I. No matter what anyone thinks about me or how other around me see me, if I'm always going to be looked at like some kind of scary, unruly nerd whose super passionate about science and likes to make himself look good then I may as well be just as proud as this guy. Even if I'm viewed as a villain, I'm not not a bad guy. I'm just not afraid to be deceptive and embrace my dark side. And I'll look good doing it too. And someday, I want to be a Veterinarian who deals with animal science and medical treatment. Just like Knockout being a doctor for his own species, I may be prone to doing very mean things and using dirty underhanded tactics and deception but that doesn't mean I can't help those in need when lives are on the line. Plus, I too nerver really had the best role models.
So I look forward to my own continuing transformation.
Also I can't wait for the Earthrise continuity to start this fall. So many new awesome Characters, lore, battles, and stories to experience and relate to. Untill then, this is a little aspiring Maximal Scout Foxtrot here to say

The Bumblebee movie is my favourite film just as it gets so much right.
But I really love Animated Bumblebee, he’s just got such a unique touch.
And RID2015 Bee is literally just HotRod in every single way…and I love HotRod, so I felt a little robbed

To be perfectly honest: I had no idea who Bumblebee was until the 2007 movie...I was still a kid and only knew about Transformers because of the Unicron trilogy.

I remember when the 2007 live action movie was announced.
At the time, my very first and only contact with the Transformers franchise was the Unicron Trilogy, starting with Armada. So you can imagine my surprise when the yellow Autobot on the posters was not Hot Shot, but Bumblebee, an unfamiliar name to me as a kid.
Thankfully, a quick Google search told me everything I needed to know, tho I'm still saddened that Hot Shot was left behind for much of the Transformer franchise's stories....

I think we were given one hint for Bumblebee's design now and from cyberverse in fact I think his design was based on Goldfire from Transformers Earthwars for those who don't know after timetraveling while fighting Ramjet Bumblebee was blown up by accident be Melody's mother Harmony(who both work for GI joe) and was rebuilt into Goldfire also Bumblebee apparently was the one to give Harmony an idea for a future child's name.
I'm rarely into the bayverse versions of transformers, but bumblebee is one of those ones where I think they managed to imbue him with more character than he ever really had before, especially in his solo film. I mean, g1 bumblebee must've been popular at the time, but he strikes me now as having some major malicious step dad energy, ya know? Like, in g1, and especially media where he's supposed to be g1 like in tf: devastation, he sounds like he wears a tweed jacket or something, like he has a really uptight vibe I don't like, like he's trying to be my friend but he's ready to take his belt off if I say the word damn... I'd like to mention that I myself don't know where this comes from, my parents never divorced, they're both alive and happily married, they rarely even got to the point of spanking when I was growing up, I really don't know where I'm getting this, but I feel it strongly whenever I hear that weird Casey Kasem voice... maybe it's because I'm so used to him sounding like a stoner as shaggy that anything less sounds too much like a square? How old am I? I dunno, I just like new cute bumblebee, kinda reminds me of his toy more, where he has the mask. His weird head and mouth never felt right. Meanwhile, cliffjumper, I love him in g1, and I feel like he should be able to like... have his space without being in bumblebees shadow, cuz he's the much better version of that where he's a cranky little impetuous fellow, but has the cahones to back it up and doesn't wind up like a highmoon, scrappy-doo bumblebee, man it all comes back to Scooby-Doo doesn't it? I know, it's cuz it's Casey Kasem, but still. Anyway, I'm deep in tldr territory, ima stop before I waste a whole afternoon, great video!
I've always wished Hasbro would revitalize Budianskys original profile for Bee (with some additions from the cartoon) as the little kid who admired the bigger tougher bots, whos attempts to prove himself to them always getting him into trouble. And bring back his classic vehicle mode instead of a muscle car, not exactly the straight up Volkswagen beetle, but something resembling it.
My interpretation of Bee was brought online *after* the Autobots left Cybertron and crashed on Earth 4 million years ago. Built on a Decepticon-controlled Cybertron who rebelled and left to join Optimus on Earth. He had *some* modern additions like his stingers that fire electric blasts, a battle mask, a small sword as a weapon, and the additional ability to fly (going all out with his name). But there are some additions like an obsessive, routine-oriented nature and a tendency to get overly stressed when something doesn't go right.
This was definitely a great update. I figured you were gonna just tag on some new info but no, you went above and beyond and actually rewrote the whole video. You did well, Mr. Chris, and I look forward to the other update video.
I kinda want to see more variants of bumblebee that would upgrade to goldbug, as that would be interesting to see.
Bee from Animated and Prime are always by favorites versions of Bumblebee, but now I add the version of the Bee solo film that was adorable XD, Bee never been my favorite bot in any TF show but is one I always respect and like, and so happy he continues appearing in media now days, still not my favorite in any show but defined an important Little tough machine that you have to respect.

I feel like Bumblebee is overlooked as a character as he has a lot of depth. He is very relatable to people with low self esteem and people who feel like they always need to prove themselves to others in order to validate their insecurities.
Bumblebee isn’t the strongest, smartest or (in earlier cases) the fastest. But he continues to do the best he can with the cards he’s been dealt. He proves no matter your size, you can still rock with the best of them and win.
Growing up, he was one of my role models as characters like him inspire me to become a better person everyday. For this, he’s one of my favorite Transformers characters as well as fictional characters
He is not overlooked, its just that many are tired of his "muted in battle" appearence in most media. I like that part honestly, since it prooves that he is a warrior and payed the price of war.
I think prime, TF 1-2-3 and Cyberverse did that version of him best.

@@michelecastellotti9172 I say that in defence of the people who bandwagon with others who view him as overrated and nothing more than a cash cow for Hasbro. He makes them money, sure, but he’s still a great character in himself. I like to compare him with Spider-Man, who’s basically the face of his own franchise
@@skybite Batman isn’t really the best example. He’s got the smarts, well versed in combat and extremely confident in general. His insecurities don’t lie with proving his mettle but on those he can trust

Bumblebee is one of my favorite Autobots. He may be small, but he has a lot of courage. He was voiced by Dan Gilvezan, who did the voice of Spider-Man in Spider-Man and his Amazing Freinds. He was also the voice of Slipstream in G.I. Joe.

I give Michael Bay credit for this he turned bumblebee into one my favorite transformers.

Being born in the nineties and knowing only the story of Beast Wars, I had no idea who Bumblebee was until his toy in the Classics line came out. Then the movie happened and I saw Bumblebee EVERYWHERE. It was kinda shocking to learn how prominent he was in G1. Thus I ended up with more nostalgia for other G1 characters I had happened to find toys of as a kid like Jetfire. I don't think I ever really cared for the character until he became leader in the IDW series. I really like that take on him, especially after the war ended.
Hopefully. He will make a basics video on Mirage as he is so underrated. but, he is one of my my favourite characters in the transformers franchise.

Bumblebee one my favorite characters in transformers like Optimus and like his Designs from g1 movies idw and looks so Adorable and sweet
To think, 5 years later and the basics is better than ever. Not to mention kicking off the updated series with the Tails to Optimus' Sonic the Hedgehog is a great thing (yes I know Sonic and Transformers aren't crossing over but a guy can dream can't he?)
As for the Updated Basics (should be subcategory for the Basics) ya did the character justice and then some. Can't wait to see what else is in store

I only know about him through Transformers prime. I didn’t know if he was just added in transformers prime just for that particular series or if he has a further backstory like bumblebee or hot rod

Fun fact! Bumblebee's new catch phrase "Rev up and roll out!" was actually used by a GI JOE first. Specifically, it was used by the British Joe member Big Ben who said it during Season 1 episode 24 of of the DiC mini-series episodes, to which the other Joes uttered their battlecry of "YO JOE!"

Transformers Prime Bumblebee is the best in the cartoon line for me.
I would prefer new characters, especially since next year we will have Rise of Beasts Bumblebee and potentially more versions in the Nick show and in comics.

Dispite all his evolutions I think I still like his G1 version best. It really worked that one of the smallest autobots would get along with humans. He goes from being the smallest guy in the room to the biggest, and his cheery attitude made him the big guy you wanted to be your friend. Just typing that out the whole 'kid appeal' make much more sense. And the fact he and Spike were still working together 20 years later on Moonbase 2 is even more charming.
And Cyberverse did a good job recapturing that. Bumblebee always had a positive attitude like when he snuck into a game of Cube and reveled in being the mascot. Or when Optimus and Megatron were trying to hammer out an alliance and Prime suggests Bumblebee be the liason with both sides since as Optimus himself put it, "Bumblebee works well with just about everyone."
I really like Bee in the G1 cartoon. To me he just works better being cute, friendly and humble.

I remember being a kid and seeing the first trailer for the first Transformers movie.
I thought Bumblebee was Hotshot. Then when I actually saw the movie I was like, “WHO???”
I miss Hotshot ngl, but I love Bee and greatly prefer his muscle car mode.
I wish instead of Hound’s alt mode, Hotshot was a recolor of HotRod. Given the close resemblance he had in Cybertron as well as character. I actually love blue so I’m totally fine ditching the yellow. And the Hound mold still works since he had an armored car mode when upgrading into the Cybertron Defense Team. Wish he still kept his Velocitron Cyber Key tho. With the Velocitron Speedia 500 collection, I want to put him with Override on my shelf. But I wish he was a faster looking vehicle.
I think in some adaptations in the future will make Bumblebee a prime. I wonder what his prime name will be

Actually in my transformers fanfic he’s pretty young and by this point has only known Optimus (and the main autobots) for a few years
I love this show, this episode, and this update…. But if I’m being totally honest, coming back to it, I kind of wish it had landed just a little later. After watching Transformers EarthSpark, I’ve found its take on Bumblebee to be one of the most interesting, dynamic, and relatable versions of him yet, and he deserves his time in the spotlight. It just doesn’t feel complete without him.
