Honestly, RotB made Mirage go from "that one G1 guy I sorta care about" to basically my top 10 TF characters.

While I'm no Peter Davidson fan, I have to say he did a great job bringing Mirage's new personality to life. I actually laughed at some of the humor 😂
Indeed. I hated him at first for his smug SNL crap, then Bodies Bodies Bodies warmed me up a bit to him, then I saw ROTB and I'm like, 'Damn, Pete, you are carrying this movie.'
I just thought he was bloody annoying and Rise of the Beasts was just a crap version of Revenge of the Fallen

@@Izaron There were definitely good *elements* of ROTF, but sitting through it felt like four hours of soul-numbing action racism.
I like to think of ROTB Mirage and G1 Mirage as two sides of the same coin: while in G1 he was a questionably-aligned aristocrat, ROTB shows off a spunky rich kid who thinks he can get away with anything and be untouchable. Like I could imagine it even reflection of his younger self, like it's the same character in two very different phases of life.
Even though he's a master of invisibility and optical illusions, Transformers fans can always look forward to seeing Mirage sneak his way into their hearts and stealthily show the meaning the phrase, more then meets the eye.

Right? I have the Studios Series figure, but I’ve never bothered to transform him. Aside from me being too lazy to (also too scared of accidentally breaking them) I was only ever in it for the robot modes. Like any of us are gonna be crying over the vehicle mode not looking 100% like whatever the car’s supposed to be called
I refer to him as Dino because that was what he was called in the film, same with Que.

FINALLY!! I've been waiting for this episode for 3 YEARS!!! Mirage was always my favorite. He was the coolest character from the 1984 series, and I'm a huge fan!

When I saw Mirage turns into an exosuit for Noah, my first reaction was like, "Why Japan never think of this?". Honestly, that one is supposed to be Japan's Thing and the movie might think about it ahead before Japan did. That exosuit form might also be a reference to the diaclone pilot figures.
Btw, he did briefly transforms into an F-1 car in the movie and I'm happy that the movie did make a reference to his G1 version.
He also seems to have been a member of Cybertron's aristocracy in the film as well. He comes across as a little spoiled, is extremely lax with laws (as you would be if you could just pay any fine), and demands they fly to Peru in first class because of his long legs lol I definitely wouldn't be surprised if tie-in comics and media will touch on that aspect of the character again

Japan has transtector suits and headmasters. Honestly I thought he was going to become a headmaster or pilot Mirage as a transtector suit, it would have made more sense lore-wise since they were literally invented so human partners could pilot Transformers when they're damaged and power boost them. The exo-suit was cool though
When the exosuit formed, I immediately gasped: Kicker.
The plot involved quite a few nods to Energon - and the new series is being referred to as a Unicron Trilogy…
Mirage in episode 1 : crashes the Decepticons on the sea
Cliffjumper : he must be a Decepticon spy
The mention of his Mini-con partners for the Skyboom Shield, Dirt Boss in particular, reminded me of just how different the different incarnations of a bot can be out there. Transformers Animated had a version of Dirt Boss show up in the series as a Decepticon, he was literally created when a forklift was merged with a Headmaster unit, and he was not a pleasant individual.
With the good publicity Mirage has gotten from ROTB, maybe we could see him in Earthspark or so either series? I had a pitch that he’d be a former actor for a Cybertronian Movie franchise, Spychanger. He’d be somewhat like Rattrap, sarcastic, slightly cowardly and will pull through.
Please, not in Earthspark… Raji deserves better than that…
I can't get over the fact that mirage turned into an IRON MAN SUIT (not literally) for Noah in the ROTB movie.
I prefer to call it a M.A.S.K. or Pretender armor ;)

@Rishi Rupak no, it doesn't. There's a very rare type of Transformer called a 'Shifter' which can transform into a nearly infinite number of unique shapes. ROTB Mirage would simply be this type of Transformer. As of now, there are only four other known Shifters: Amalgamous Prime, Makeshift, Pseudo, and the Mutacons.
I just assumed he was casting illusions as opposed to fully changing his body.

Something’s a bit odd. On top of his usual spec, he’s a multi-changer with apparent mass displacement, able to cope with Scourge’s otherwise fatal attack - which he heroically but confidently attracted - by self-dismantling to make an exosuit, and reconstituting himself at the end (admittedly with help from Noah) fully functional with mind and personality intact.

As in the Classics toy from this century or the original from the 80s? They both look good but I would _love_ to have the original in satisfactory condition, all the more because they apparently lost the moulds for it.
There’s a bit of a joke involved there: it’s said that they lost all the moulds!
@@originaluddite It'd presumably be the 2006 one; there was a line called Classics in the 80s, consisting of re-release versions of old figures, but it was European-only, as I recall, and Mirage wasn't part of it.

@@Brickerbrack That very late 80s Classics line was also in Australiasia - I have a few coz of it. But yes never a Mirage. I think the last time you could get him was in mailaway offers around the time of the movie.
I don't think that it's so much confusion as to why Mirage is now being shown to do more than just become invisible, and use other powers like illusion casting and holograms and such, that he always had from the beginning ... but the fact that they've basically taken that away from Hound, who also does have that power.
And, yes, G1, didn't want the redundancy, and they probably don't want that now either, but now Hound isn't unique anymore because they're making him like another Kup or Ironhide instead, and it doesn't fit with the original established character.
Both Hound and Mirage can have holographic abilities together, they just need to make it so that each one uses the power in different ways to differentiate them.
They could have made it where Hound has a more powerful form of holographic technology to where they could be interactable and affect his enemies with hardlight tech while Mirage has a weaker form of it and only uses it to confuse enemies to avoid capture or lure them away from their posts.
However what Mirage can do over Hound is the ability to alter his exterior appearance to others.

Honestly, I feel as if the hound should be like a bounty hunter who can go invisible who is a expert tracker
Mirage and Starscream were the first transformer toys I ever got and I loved watching them on the tv show when I was younger. Great job on the video and I can’t wait to go see the movie.

Evey version of Mirage should have him say the joke "The ship was full". An absolute classic👌.
Mirage was definitely my favorite character in Rise of the Beasts, and Pete Davidson's performance I like to think really made him stand out in a special way.
I'm confident kids are gonna gravitate towards him like I did with Bumblebee when I was a kid watching the first Michael Bay movie.
That said, I hope this ain't the end for Mirage and I hope he appears in future movies.
Mirage in Rise of the Beast was my favorite character too. Previously it was Bumblebee but in this movie he didn't got much screen time and i understand why.

Mirage has had the best luck when it comes to being remembered fondly by fans, and being revisited by hasbro.
Not all original characters can claim some of those things.
There was originally planned to be a recolor of mirage's g1 toy for the g2 line, which was meant to be colored in a light-green and pink, whic loks like a "bubblegum" deco, but was cancelled.
There is also an animated incarnation of Mirage.
That green and pink deco looks to be getting a release soon. I'm kinda hoping at some point they actually do a version of the mould that _isn't_ an exclusive and difficult/expensive to obtain, because there a few characters I'd like to make from it that Hasbro clearly aren't going to (Speedstream comes to mind)... There's also a G2 version of Mirage in this very video that they could have gone with and looks way nicer in my book...
He definitely deserves more attention!
I actually loved the ROTB version of Mirage way more than i expected to.
Wonder if they’re gonna give him a “traitor” storyline in the next movie.
If I had a nickel for every time there was a spotlight episode of Mirage where the Autobots think he turned traitor, then I would have three nickels. Which is not a lot, but it’s weird that it happened three times.
RotB Mirage reminds me of Cayde-6 from Destiny. They're both the "we don't like authority yet we can still seriously get shit done" type, plus the "he eats planets, so like waaaay bigger than a planet" sounds like something outta the D2 campaign when Cabal Emperor Calus's world eating ship shows up.
Also in dotm mirage/Dino kinda looks the 03 aaliyah or type lahire from armored core gen 4

I’m plesantly surprised to see someone else had that thought with the way his personality was shaped in RotB and it later clicked for me that he acts a lot more like Nimbus but he definitely has Cayde’s smartass.
Mirage somehow became one of my favorite IDW characters despite the fact that he didnt really do much.

It’s funny how, years after the “Traitor” G1 episode, Mirage was typecast many times as either “The Autobot who people think is a traitor,” or simply disguises themself as a Decepticon.
Mirage really stole all the spotlights in RotB, i absolutely loved every second he appeared in the movie

The ROTB film did Mirage justice, he was really cool and definitely take up most of the screen time for how awesome he was
It always pissed me off that G1 Mirage was seen as a traitor given he's the SOLE reason the Decepticons didn't win when he sabotaged their ship at the end of More Than Meets the Eye. Optimus didn't even damage the ship, that was all Mirage sinking them. And by Cliffjumper of all bots! The guy who screwed up SO bad he missed Megatron while IN HIS ZONE!
Fun fact, In Rise Of The Beast he briefly turned into a F1 Car, paying homage to the OG bot. (He also turned into a Lambo, a Ferrari, and a Dumb Truck.)

It seems like Mirage has a sort of unique morphing and mass shifting ability. Because in the beginning of the movie, he turns into a Lamborghini, a Ferarri F1 race car (awesome easter egg btw) and a huge dump truck seemingly without scanning any of them and transforming into them at will.
Not to mention later turning into a much smallest Exo-suit for Noah.
I think it's just the writer(s) playing fast and loose with the rules of the franchise and having fun with it, tbh
I agree! The moment he turned into Noah's exo-suit, I was like, "I HIGHLY doubt ALL Transformers can do that." At first, I thought it was just a little much, but now I realize that this sort of ability could be an odd yet interesting expansion to Mirage's sneaking spy schtick. He could be like the Plastic Man of the Autobots.
Turns out, the real reason Mirage is such a goofball in Rise Of The Beasts is so that no one will ever suspect him of being a traitor.
(Too bad they killed off Cliffjumper in the last one!)

I love how Combiner Wars is the only depiction of Mirage where he takes on an alternate open wheel racecar, that being of an IndyCar, most specifically its Dallara IR-12 chassis, fitted to the big oval track aero package
**SPOILER FOR RISE OF THE BEASTS**
I think the suit he turns into is very much so in line with the master-type suits from masterforce. Not only does it look kinda like a pretender suit, but it also has the engine at the back like a God/Powermaster. It also gives very similar augments to the users strength speed and durability. I think the best way to describe it is as a pretender shell. Since it’s mirage shrunken down into a suit. The pretenders activate their suits, and the suit mass shifts into their robot transtector body. So he’s basically an inverted pretender, since he went from body -> suit instead of suit -> body.

Mirage's Formula-1 form (his original vehicle mode in G1 cartoons) was briefly shown in Rise of the Beasts, when he was demonstrating to Noah his ability to have various alternate modes.
Can't watch now, I'm in line to see Rise of the Beasts at the cinema.

Mirage was great. I love that he transformed into a formula 1 for a second too. Arcee was another favorite. She was great in the combat scenes.
I liked Mirage in the new movie, but I don't want to divulge too much of my opinions on 'em until after the film's run its course. I will say that I really liked his design, I hope we get more characters with sleek looks that are easier to include in more scenes.
Personally, I always like when Mirage's loyalty is questioned, or callbacks to him being some snobby aristocrat. I think the first ever reference to Turbofoxes in transformer was Mirage wishing he could hunt them with his upper crust pals back home. His Aristocratic background could be fun for writing too; years ago, my friend group incorporated a rich guy. I never really got along with him, and I feel it could be easy to work that some of that "only keeping this prick around for his money" vibes into writing Mirage in adaptations of his G1 character.

I saw the movie on June 7th so it's nice having content already for the movie out
in a funny tale of events, the 2023 mirage actually and briefly turned into his formula 1 alt mode, before briefly turning into sideswipe's alt mode in his bayformer colours.
Spoiler alert:
In the ROTB, we did see Mirage briefly transform into an Indy car alt mode, perhaps to pay homage to his old Formula 1 alt mode.
He always make Optimus angry ,Because he's trying to attract people's attention, so maybe Optimus forbade him from turning into F1

My first Diaclone toy the fave. Mirage a Counter Specialist. More than meets the Eye part 3 greatest achieved ever stopping Decepticons warship meanwhile both Megatron and Starscream whining each other. Both Mirage and Optimus had toys in my collection. Takara toys are amazing.
Honestly I think I like Mirage as a cocky character that is good with deception. Just fits the F1 racer form(and his current appearance in Rise of the Beasts) and his ability to create illusions. He definitely is an amazing ally for the Autobots to have because of his illusion ability.
Just saw rotb, loved it, loved morage in it. Love how he's not untrustworthy, he's reckless and impulsive......but still makes plans without telling prime first. Good version of the character and genuinely one of my favourite live action versions of a transformers character..... along with their version of primal
Saw the movie and I love it. Off the hook and better than the other 6 live film. They definitely based his personality on Hot Rod, Cheetor, & Hot Shot. Yes, we finally saw his iconic F-1 mode as well as him turning into a Countach in a quick cameo

It should be noted that the F1 vehicle mode made a blink and you'll miss it appearance when Noah and Mirage are in the derelict factory.

Let's hope it won't be too long before we get a Masterpiece Mirage and then try and beg Porsche to allow Masterpiece Jazz to be a reality (and complete the 1984 & 1985 Autobot Cars).
My favorite quote from Mirage is when Optimus Prime congratulates him on downing the Decepticon's ship in G1. Prime says that he thought Mirage wanted to return to Cybertron so badly that he'd ride with the 'Cons, but the invisible Autobot replies, "Sorry Prime. The ship was... full." LOL
"What can I say Prime...the ship was full!". Mirage was really anxious to get back to Cybertron. Never had a G1 toy it was always sold out but I have several now. Great video bringing us all up to speed for the new movie can't wait for the next one.
When I was little I found Dino (or Dino Mirage as I like to call him) kinda scary (probably because of his voice and the fact that he presents himself "attacking" humans). That character was actually kinda cool.
I also thought Dino and Mirage were 2 separate characters.

Mirage was always my favorite G1 transformer growing up so I was so happy to see him in the new movies little discouraged. They changed him from a Formal 1 car to a Ferrari ( Dino) to a Porsche 911 but they did that to bumblebee as well, but I’m glad they introduced him to this new generation.
I have always like the Alternators version of Mirage. The Ford GT was a good choice for him.

The original Mirage was the first Transformer I owned and is probably my favorite Autobot. I liked him in Rise of the Beasts, but the G! is still my favorite.

Really loved Mirage in RotB. Much better than getting a character who can't actually talk as the principal POV 'bot for the other movies.
Transformers the basics on The Transformers Multi verse.
I'm suprised he hasn't covered that yet, not counting his first few videos' i think the thing about Unicron being the same across the multiverse still applies.
I had to come watch this video after watching the movie and im ready to learn more about my new favorite transformer

So mirage has an universal alt-mode. I think we have our first mutacon on live action television.
I loved how he briefly became a gear grinding old trash truck! I really hope we get an SS figure of him as that Trash truck LOL!
I remember as a kid one year around New Years my G1 Mirage toy disappeared, not in the fun way. I looked for it everywhere but gave up. Next Christmas we're breaking out all the tree decorations and I find him in a tin full of bulb ornaments. Was like an early Christmas present.

Don't forget that Mirage was rebuilt with spare parts and HE STILL TRANSFORMS into his robot mode as if he had a hideous paint job.

The strange part about the Rise of the Beasts version of Mirage was that he showed off what he looked like as a garbage truck, a Lamborghini Countach similar to Sideswipe’s G1 alt mode, and a freaking F1 mode. While not subtle, I actually would have LOVED to see him stay as an F1 race car for the movie.

As I saw ROTB early today, while Mirage had illusion powers was bit surprised to see him having ability to change his vehicle mode look.
I used to have Armada Mini-Con Mirage.
