Loving your vids! I just started working in the ER/level II trauma. Would love a video all about trauma, how to prepare/what to expect etc :)

So how exactly did you get started as an ER tech, I don’t think I remember seeing that unless it was a lllooonnnggg time ago 😊 and are you planning on going further, if so what are your goals? Do you get to do lab draws on the regular, what about setting IV’s? And how cool it is that you had the NSTEMI right, that’s something to be proud of! Rhythms are not always easy imo, so for you to pickup on presentation just goes to show how great of an ER tech you are 💪🏼🔥

So I should probably make a whole video out of this because the way I started working in the ER was kinda unconventional. I was originally hired for the ER observation unit but when we wouldn't have patients I would be floated down to the main ER. They liked me working down in the main ER, so I continued to get floated there and eventually all my shifts were in the main ER. As a tech we are not allowed to start IVs, but we do lab draws pretty regularly. I'd say I do at least two or three lab draws a shift. And yes I'm so happy I was able to catch that NSTEMI! A couple months ago I wouldn't have caught that. One of the reasons I love the ER is because I get to learn so much and then put it directly to use!

Hi Casey love your videos!! I am trying to find an ER tech position in the city I’ll be moving to and was wondering if ER techs insert IVs and draw labs-would you say that’s standard practice or just for techs that are also EMTs? I learned how to do both in my current job as a patient care tech and want to continue using those skills 😅. Did you learn how to do EKGs during your orientation/training when you got your current position? Also, what would you say is the typical pay range for days and night ER techs?

Hey Mitchie so in my ER tech's can only do phlebotomy no IV insertions, even for techs with their EMT. We learned how do do EKGs during orientation, but did not learn heart rhythms. I would suggest studying and knowing the lethal heart rhythms. At my hospital the pay ranges from $14-$20 it depends on experience and what shift you work. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions 😁
