I want to be a Nurse and my undergrad GPA was very low. I graduated with a C average GPA. I'm a teacher which is a very terrible field. I was a caregiver to my grandmother for 5 years up until she passed away. Now I am at a community college. working towards becoming a Medical Assistant and after that I want to apply to an LVN program. To be a Medical assistant I didn't have to worry about GPA requirements at all. It was easy for me to get in. And also with getting into the LVN program there is NO GPA requirements but I get extra points towards have training as a CNA or MA. Well I'm in a medical assistant program and I am doing great in that program. Yeah getting into Nursing school is so competitive nowadays. Glad that you got into Nursing school that is awesome. It's been a hurdle for me as well. I prefer to work my way up and just do it that way. :)

I'm glad to hear you're not letting anything stop you from becoming a nurse! If I didn't get into my program, this was the route I was going to take.

I dropped out in 2019 and wanted nothing more to get back into school and become a nurse. Started over with prereqs in 22 and I got my nursing school acceptance today while working in the ER🤗

Yay! I’m so happy that you got into nursing school even with a low GPA. Grades aren’t everything and you seem like an amazing person, it would make my day if you were my nurse. Here in NYC tons of people with 4.0s get rejected I’m glad you have the opportunity where you are to be closer to your dreams ❤

Aww thank you Ashley! This is so sweet and it made my day 🥹 And yes nursing is so competitive. Great candidates get passed up all the time!

its sad how they made nursing schools soooo competitive in the united states...here in new york at least, I've been waitlisted for many programs...the dream school i wanted to get in, kept adding new requirements each year....man...after all that work and after entering the work force...seeing how easy it was for foreign Philippine students to get into nursing school and get a work visa to work here just boils my blood...hospitals just hire foreign nurses when they is a shortage and students in the US, have to go through this grueling process of getting into nursing and THEN WORRY ABOUT TUITION!!! oh man.....

Oh wow didn’t realize this was happening. It’s so unfortunate how competitive nursing school is in the US

I don’t know man. I got accepted for ABSN for 15 month program. I start September 3rd, I’m also in NY. My GPA wasn’t crazy either just a 3.3 in Hospitality. I do however already have experience in patient care because I took care of my grandma. That probably is the only thing that put me above others. I also applied really late. 2 weeks before deadline.

@@dumplings769 its def not city or state, youre probably entering private for all i can tell...i had 3.7 GPA back in undergrad...and I also live in NY. just be careful and make sure your school is CCNE accredited ...once you become a nurse, getting accepted to graduate and doctorates is easy. im finishing up my doctorates now...but that level of competition was UNCALLED for...

Letting everyone know that if you get on academic probation or kicked out of school, you can appeal the decision. Write a paper on what’s going on and they may appeal the decision.

I’m 21. Trying to get into ADN programs here in southern Cali. I have one more year of pre reqs (this fall, and next spring) I’ll be 22 turning 23 when applying to ADN programs. Praying I will get in with my A and B’s in my pre reqs and overall 3.0 GPA. I’m also going to get my CNA license to get extra points.

Thank you for giving me hope. Did you take chemistry? I guess i have to take it or try to pass the CLEP. Im thinking of applying to nursing programs to move out earlier and bc i would like to serve as well.

I had to take the entire chemistry sequence for my biology degree. It was challenging, but doable!

    Hi Casey,
So I am currently taking AnP 1 and am lined up for AnP2, bio chem, and organic chem online while I'm getting ready to apply to a few bachelors programs throughout illinois with a 2.92 GPA. These classes are the first college classes i've taken since 2019 when I got a bachelors of science from Illinois State with a tech major, so getting back into the academic mindset and actually studying has been really hard for me, especially alongside holding a 40-50 hr/wk construction job. I'm struggling with retaining information when trying to read through textbook chapters even when I take notes. It really feels like i'd need to make AnP a full time job to actually soak up all the information and memorize it to be competitive. Do you have any advice on retaining information when studying, especially when medical terminology is so foreign and you need to know so many specific little things and interactions? I may honestly quit working soon to focus on getting better grades on these pre-req's, so that should help.
    Best,
    Mike

First off, Mike, what you're doing isn't easy, so you should be impressed with yourself. I have several study tips on my TikTok. I've found the best way to retain info is to write it out. The physical action of writing, I've found, helps the information stick. I'll my questions for myself, venn diagrams or concept maps.

@@CaseySmithOfficial Thank you for the response I appreciate you! I'll try writing things out more. Since making my last comment it has gotten a little easier and the content is making more sense. I downloaded Anki and have been mixing pre-made decks with ones I've made myself and it's been helping. Thank you again and I wish you the best with your schooling!

When you say associates degree program for nursing schools, do you mean ADN programs?
