- Up close with SEA TURTLES!!
That was the plan for the day. We decided for our first fill day in Tulum, that we would do all of the touristy things that people do on the east coast of Mexico.
We started our day driving to the Tulum Ruins, which were not very far from our hotel. The ruins here are always on the lists of most beautiful places in the world-particularly because of their location-right on the coast. After a little bargaining with US dollars to get in, we were finally inside, and it was well worth the effort.
From there we drove about 40 minutes to Akumal Beach where we donned some snorkeling equipment, and put our lives in Miguel’s hands in order to get close to some sea turtles! Careful measures are kept that you remain floating, so as not to disturb the sea grass on the ocean floor which is the food source for the turtles.
We headed back to the hotel to shower and get ready for dinner. We went to a restaurant on the main street called Nu-and up to this point it was the best food that we had on our entire trip to Mexico-that is until we found the restaurant we ate at the following night…stay tuned for that!
Staying afloat for that amount of time with the sea turtles was an effort and as a result we were quite tired at the end, and decided to delay our jump into a cenote for one more day.

Amazing video! We loved our short time in Tulum last year. We did the Cenotes in Valladolid but still lots of fun. They saw our gimbal and charged us extra to get in! Love the ruins and how they are right on the beach! So jealous you got to swim with the turtles!!
I literally was not going to go swimming--little secret is I hate the water--and this was a big deal for me, but I was so glad that I was able to go! Where will you guys be the next few months?
