35mm film is very powerful, and in fact, we only just recently surpassed the quality of film with super high resolution digital cameras in the 2000's. To put this into perspective, the first 4k camera was released in 2003! 35mm film has about the same quality as a 4k to 6k resolution camera. You can scan a nitrate film from the 1890's and it will almost look like it was shot today. However this highly depends on the material, quality, and preservation of the film, as well as the type of scanning technology and format used. 99% of old films were encoded into analog technology (VHS, Betacam, etc) and thus they looks terrible because most of these films have not been digitized and it costs a lot of money.
From a lot of odd framing choices -- especially tops of hats or heads being cut off -- I get the distinct feeling that this was originally filmed in a 4:3 aspect ratio and the top and bottom of the picture have been chopped away to make it "fit" zoomed in to a 16:9 widescreen. Come clean, Maximus ! At least you didn't stretch and distort the original, but why not just show us everything and either upload it as 4:3 or at worst use pillar boxes?
Because this was a raw scan and you could see the perforations of the film on the video. It looks better in 16:9 in my opinion, even though I usually upload the digitized films in 4:3 I also did a lot of color correcting to make it look as best as possible. The original scan looked very washed out and desaturated.
@@MaximusandHistory Well the processing you did really shines through in terms of video quality, so thanks for that. I just wish you'd cut only the minimum necessary and showed it in the intended 4:3 so we don't lose any information
Because TH-cam, TikTok and other streaming services are full of content thieves who are too lazy to put in any real effort, research, time or money into digitizing historical films. I upload high quality historical footage from East Germany that is completely exclusive to my channel. You can watch the standard definition, analog encoded video without the watermark here: th-cam.com/video/lJJM4EhStQM/w-d-xo.html

Can anyone name the military march at 2:35 ?
17:25 La cara de la chica lo dice todo🥹. Me hace recordar la orden 227 🥺.
It looks better in 16:9 in my opinion, even though I usually upload the digitized films in 4:3
I also did a lot of color correcting to make it look as best as possible. The original scan looked very washed out and desaturated.
@@MaximusandHistory Well the processing you did really shines through in terms of video quality, so thanks for that. I just wish you'd cut only the minimum necessary and showed it in the intended 4:3 so we don't lose any information
They sure had some nice uniforms

How did they keep those Thunderbirds hats on their heads in the wind?
there is rare video, rare document about NVA
Why are you putting your logo on something you didnt make?
Because TH-cam, TikTok and other streaming services are full of content thieves who are too lazy to put in any real effort, research, time or money into digitizing historical films.
I upload high quality historical footage from East Germany that is completely exclusive to my channel.
You can watch the standard definition, analog encoded video without the watermark here: th-cam.com/video/lJJM4EhStQM/w-d-xo.html
@@MaximusandHistoryYour upload is so much higher quality! Amazing work my friend.
I am homesick for a place I have never been.
