The tank that is being developed was a project calle Panzer 74. it got canceled but it would have been similar to the Chieftain in many ways, maybe a bit more mobile though it was supposedto use the same gun as the Chieftain for example
Interesting to watch - and relaxing! I can’t help but notice how well everything seems to be made. This being Switzerland, I probably shouldn’t be surprised. 🙂🇨🇭
I own a stg 57 bayonet assembled in Waffenfabrik Bern in 1982 with a Wenger made and marked blade. I love how stylish and durable Swiss gear is too, also being the proud owner of 2 bread bags, one vinyl covered one made in 1981 and a salt and pepper one made in 1965.
wonderful, in my language and i have my great-granderfather who was a chef during ww2 and the brother of my grandmother was in the army during the time of this reportage
I think the thing to take from this is they maximised the spending of Swiss Taxation in Switzerland ! Unlike what goes on, world wide, today. Great video.
Nice video! Always cool to see late 1960s computers and manufacturing processes. My first job out of college (in 1987) was as a civilian employee (Federal civil service) of the US Army supporting tank and artillery ammo. Ah the memories...
Those videos are super interesting to me, because my dad served during that time in the army... Hearing stories from him (mountain greandier) is one thing, but seeing stuff or how its made , is a totally different thing. Also its an interesting time capsule into a time i heard a lot about but didnt witness myself. Ok yea and im a electormechanical engineer... there is also a certain "professional" interest n those machines of this specific video. Or in other words: Läck bobi so geil!
So we can see what happens to inon bombs dropped from supersonic aircraft and know to propel and control them. But the seems to be only one way to find out what happens to the driver when his lorry tumbles down the slope - the non lethal way, that is. I wonder if the lorries are driveable after that by a fresh driver. Battery acid has done for a few cars after a simple roll. The real reason that this film can be released is because the army had gone a step ahead. Yes, I was brought up to know electromechanical devices and thermionic valves.
Fascinating look at manufacture and trialling of military gear. I wonder how much of this industry remains in Switzerland? I use a B&T APC .223 carbine for my home defence rifle. The fit and finish of Swiss made arms are still amazing.
@Random Pickle we only follow the menace from the warsaw pact during the 90's completly collapsed with the end of URSS. Neo liberals as you call it are far right industry big guns who wanna supressing all rules for making money and laundering it in fiscal paradises. The exact contrary of leftists who can called progresives and in a no manners " liberals"
If you wish to see the German version of this, click the link in the description. Unfortunately, my native language isn’t German, so it would be impractical for me to subtitle this.
The Panzer 61/68 shown here in production was a Swiss development that was more or less a flop. Not really modern at the time and the tanks had teething problems, gearboxes and electrics that could only be partially remedied when the tank and the Centurion were replaced by Leo 2 A4s. Nevertheless, the Swiss army was quite well equipped until the mid-1980s. Several hundred battle tanks: Centurion Pz61/68 and almost 600 combat aircraft: Mirage, Hunter, Venom, Vampire and later 160 F5E Tigers were added.
I remember seeing this in my RS. However I am not sure it is a 1968 film. In it I see some equipment which was handed out to the troops a bit later. Specifically 1971 helmets and a 1974 12cm mortar being spray painted. Although the helmet was possibly some test run, I think the mortar was a bit early to be in industrial production.
Its kind of sad seeing all the infrastructure for creation used for maintenance instead. Stagnation leading to crumbling. The results of the frantic era of destruction focusing on the abomination Army95 was a mistake.
Im confused, i cant see a lot of comments by Dale, but when i click "show comment" , its empty... however i can see comments from everybody else.... guys i think the "Nachrichtendienst" is after dale, quick we need to save him! /jk - i assume YT fucked up again somehow :D
Oh but the horror! It looks like the Swiss were using napalm. Various non-Swiss equipment shown in the film: US Equipment: Browning M2 0.50 cal MG, M40 Recoilless Rifle, M109 SP howitzer, M113 APC family French Equip: Mirage III fighters, Alouette III heliocopters, AMX-13 light tanks British: Vampire, Venom, & Hunter fighter-bombers, Centurion MBTs & Bridgelayers, 105mm L7 tank guns, Bloodhound SAM system (missiles & radar)
These Swiss folks sure do know how to pick music for their films.

Great upload and subtitling! Thanks a lot. Enjoy the quality and narrative, good things even today.

Thank you for sharing yet more interesting footage with us
Great presentation, thanks
Worth it just for the crazy jazz intro music!
I'm just here for the soundtracks.
The backing music was the Swiss most deadly weapon.
To watch, just for the 70' music.
Gracias gran video! 👍👍👍

The Pinzgauer Truck was called the rolling grave. The center of gravity was way too high and many soldiers got killed during maneuvers.
Love the music.
Excellent ! Quand la main de l'homme savait encore façonner la matière ! Belle époque.
Hope the day comes with german subtitles or the german versions of all your films😃

De quand la Suisse était un pays et son armée une vraie armée crédible et craignable.
A runway with a huge mountain at the end, you better have 4 boosters, nice footage
I was not prepared for that music, how on earth does it work so well‽
00:37 my favorite... army pigeons. Yes, I remember these wonderful boy scout times 🙄

When all the modern jets, tanks, armored vehicles, advances Radars and communications fail... Remember Switzerland still has homing pigeons!
Had. Until 1994 IIRC.

You cant sustain any army of 800000 men when economy is focused on making money. Too much losing working hours.
@Random Pickle we decrease troops from more than 2/3 650k to 240k for finally reach 83000 today
I've been to the Thun Castle 🏰 and the
Thundesee and then to Grindelwald.

Molto interessante.
Why does the guy on the thumbnail look like Vladmir Lenin???🤨🤨🤨

No worries. I simply migrated this channel to a “brand channel”. It seems to have screwed up the comments, unfortunately.
@@DaletheStgwDude I can read this answer from you :-) Just not the one on my other comment. Sounds like its youtube having one of its "days" again :-D

Car must have strong roll bar. And people still fly off the car. LoL life before seat belt.

Look around, see what is worth the price and best for the purpose. Don't waste the taxpayer's money.
Don't be too fussy, just remember who you are.
