Always have a pair of flat-jaw pliers or a multi-tool handy for handling hot things and turning stuck things or else, OW, OW, OW!

I'm gonna try this. I have already trimmed my arrows and installed new inserts.. I was going to just throw the insert-containing ends away, but figured I'd try to get the inserts out for future use. I'll try it tomorrow. My arrows are Gold Tip Traditional' 500 and 600 arrows.

The #8 32 1 1/2 screw was too small for the lock screw of the soldering to grab, (and I didn't have a longer one handy) so, I just stuck the pointy end of the hot soldering iron into the insert and counted 5-6 seconds. Then I quickly screwed in a field point, and using a pair of pliers, pulled the insert out. It is easy. I salvaged 21 inserts. I'll use a propane torch to clean the old glue off the pulled inserts later.

watch going side to side you might split the shaft. i think you just need to let the iron get hot for 5 min, it should heat up the insert faster then break free easier.

since your refletching, why not cut the nock end!?!
also ,if you need to pulling the insert. let the iron warm up for several minutes before you attach to insert.
DON'T let it warm up in arrow !! you WILL melt the carbon.

1Reddogroad I ended up keeping it plugged in for 10 minutes and it got really hot, but I still needed to leave it screwed into the arrow for a little while to melt the glue. Some arrows had really strong insert glue and others had weak glue. I refletched the arrows already so that's why I didn't trim them from the back, plus it was an excuse to make a new tool.

If you take a drill bit just small enough to fit in your shaft you can swing it like a bat it hits the back of your insert and knocks them out just be careful or you will send an insert and a bit into your wall

Takes 1000 times longer to do it that way and lots of times doesn’t work if someone got a little heavy on the glue

    Epoxy or super-glued insert?

I believe super glued, but I removed them either way with no trouble, and I always use Loctite ultragel super glue
