  • Most agates in Canterbury are formed in rhyolite or andesite but there are a few places where they are formed in basalt formations. These are much more rare and usually have very interesting mineral inclusions and sprays.
I had explored this little stream before and found one agate with amazing mineral inclusions and even some form of metal in it!

It was worth getting up so early just to hear that lovely dawn chorus of birds.

Did you ever explore waipara rivers ? When I was young and had school camp I remember being told by the camp local that the rivers hold "gem stones " like that first beautiful rock which just reminded me of that memory. I even found one but fell over in the river and lost it lol 😖

I have looked in that river but never found a gem stone myself in there :)

5:29 In a perfect world it would be a fossilized seed pod or something. LOL

Thanks Lizzy! It's amazing finding bits of worked stone like that, makes you realise people have been on the land for a very long time!

@@rockyrocks9022 , you’re just jealous that you didn’t find it yourself, MR. NEGATIVE NELLIE. Where are your specimens? I don’t see anything about rocks on your channel with the exception of the name of your channel. You must be a sore loser because they always seem to be the people who make negative comments. Mr. SMARTY PANTS ROCKY ROCKS. Bad form. 🤨
