@12:15...exactly the information I was looking for. No ghost date position! I've watched so many reviews on the 79220 and nobody mentioned it. So if you have one that has a ghost date position, then it's either fake or the movement has been replaced with a standard 2824. The Tudor rotor is easy to swap onto a standard ETA. Thanks!
i dont understand why all the hate on the hands of the watch, now im not saying i "love" the hands but at the same time i dont think they are ugly i think it fits the watch. i bought this watch but in the red
Quick comment on the lume color. Tudor seems to match lume color to metal color. For yellow gold hands and markers, they use cream lume to mactch the warmth. For white gold, stainless surrounds, they use white lume... This trend follows for all three color options.
After several weeks of trawling through big chain ADs and smaller jewellers, I finally managed to get one and it's being sent from a dealer up north down to a sister dealer they have in the south. So these are still insanely hard to find in the UK. I should be picking it up tomorrow morning. Purchase is largely down to a few different reviews, with yours being the most comprehensive and detailed. So thank you!
Watch Hobbyist That would be amazing, I love all 3 variants so far, but I would probably be wearing the blue version the most, it just seems more versatile to me. I already find it difficult to decide which one I like the most, adding a green version to the line-up will make it even more difficult :P
This review was the closest I'll get to a Heritage Black Bay without having my hands on one. Thanks so much for the help. Any chance you can get your hands on a Pelagos? I'm still leaning towards one over a Heritage Black Bay, when it comes to picking a Tudor for my collection. I'd be VERY interested to hear your thoughts on it.
+pbbbht I'll try for you. I've had a couple and they're fantastic, but the sea dweller makes me sell them each time :-s I just can't keep two watches that look so similar. The Pelagos is a very, very good watch though, especially with the new Power Reserve.
+pbbbht I'll try for you. I've had a couple and they're fantastic, but the sea dweller makes me sell them each time :-s I just can't keep two watches that look so similar. The Pelagos is a very, very good watch though, especially with the new Power Reserve.
+Watch Hobbyist I like the Sea Dweller a lot, but it's way beyond what I have any business spending on a watch, even a 'grail watch'. The Pelagos, however, is obtainable. Besides, I prefer the snowflake.
Thanks for the video! Any thoughts on pulling the trigger on this 2015 model vs waiting for the forthcoming 2016 Basel release in a few months/whenever it's released? Seems like the only main differences will be the in-house movement (vs the ETA) and slight changes to the logo/lettering on the face?
+Andrey Washington I've thought about speculating and buying one of the last ETA movement models after selling this watch a while ago (see my vs. Kingston Mkii vid). However, I don't think it's a watch that is strong enough to become sought after, as much as it should be. They tend to go quite cheaply used, and nothing seems to be chasing that fact. So, as the new one won't be too much more expensive at RRP, it probably makes the best sense to buy a 2016 variant and gain a larger power reserve. The only difference in looks is the Tudor logo on the dial I think. Just try and get one as cheap as possible, from a grey dealer perhaps, as if you flip it, prepare to take a loss.
+Watch Hobbyist Thanks for the quick reply and feedback! Think I'm going to hold out and try to grab the 2016 variant whenever it's released (AD said the Tudor rep in NYC told them they'll ship 2016s after they've sold all their 2015s; unclear whether they mean all the 2015s globally vs US vs NYC need to be sold, so we'll see). Excited about stepping up from my Steinhart OVM, which I still love at
Wound up getting the ETA a few weeks ago after my AD relayed some hype from his Tudor rep that the BBB ETA was the shortest major production run in Tudor's history... and he knocked a few hundred off the list price. Not sure the validity to the "shortest run ever" comment, but absolutely love the watch. Stunning.
+Watch Hobbyist: very good review. I have 2 questions: 1)which version will keep better its value do you think?Yours ETA or the just now released in house mouvement version? And 2)can you put a link where we can buy the same nato bracelet as yours? Regards and keep doing amazing video's.
Thanks for the kind comment. The NATO was purchased from eBay I think, but if you search for a "bond nato" you'll likely find them in a lot of places; check out WatchObsession as I've had great products from them previously. I would say it'll take a long time for the ETA to increase in value, so if a longer Power Reserve would be useful, it may be best to consider the new option. Just my opinion of course.
This version of the black bay is going to be the most collectible, I think. It was only available for about 6 months, which is the shortest run by far of any Black Bay.
+Watch Hobbyist I've had this on the wrist for 3 weeks now and it hasn't lost any time that i can discern, feels indestructible, looks amazing - but you already know this!
Love the watch. In some ways looks much better than the sub. But I just can't get past that hideous hour hand. I know it's minor, but my ocd would prevent me from not starring at that giant road sign evrytime I check the time
Lol yep it's not for everybody, but this is the closest you'll get to a Tudor Sub in a modern body, so it's just reminiscent of that model. Steinhart make a similar looking watch with Mercedes hands so perhaps that's an option, although I've never tried one out tbh.
They're such different watches when you break them down. The black bays have a vintage feel and theme, but the Pelagos is a totally modern diver. Do you prefer vintage or modern? :-)
Someone mentioned that the Black Bay feels like it has the warmth of an old friend as soon as you put it on, is as relaxed in the bar as it is in the office. The Pelagos seems to be the type of watch that is demanding that you do just one more push up... its much more utilitarian!
Very informative and lengthy video's! I really enjoyed them. It helped me to actually go and see this watch at the jeweller as I'm now considering to get one. Don't you have a website yet? Because the photos in your video's look stunning and there is no way to see them in full res.
+deuxani Hi, thanks for your kind comment. I've been struggling for time but if a blog looks to be beneficial, I'll certainly be looking into it. For now though, I generally post reviews on forums and videos.
+175139 I don't have it to hand but at the end of this week, I have a video coming up of another Submariner alternative, so stay tuned and I'll show it for you.
The Sub should do better value-wise in the long-run. I do expect there will be a new Submariner next year or the year after though with the newer 3235 movement, so it may be worth holding out. The Black Bay is a great watch though and finding an ETA model should make it cheaper, and also more collectible down the line.
Love the look of this watch. Wish the bezel insert was matte ceramic like the Pelagos. While I'm wishing....wish it was a little bit smaller as well. I like this earlier dial with the 'smile' and the Tudor Rose.
+jino y I can't find any info to confirm it but I think at least the underside of the crystal is as it's very clear. There doesn't appear to be any external coating though.
+Watch Hobbyist thanks! yeah, even the official tudor site doesnt mention anything. do you have a webpage? great video! Eying this one or a smp ceramic co axial. ar on that smp is superb.
+jino y No webpage currently but I'll update the channel if I ever go down the blogging route. The SMP is a fantastic watch. I just find the skeleton hands a little hard to read in very bright situations and also at night due to the minimal surface for lume.
The ETA black model will be rare in the future, and to some that will add a premium. I’d prefer the ETA for that reason, but I’d go for red with in house.
+Adi Susanto I know people want this but it doesn't mean too much. The ETA is very serviceable and will be cheaper to purchase. The in-house movement has a greater PR but that's really the main benefit.
+Watch Hobbyist actually it is the massive power reserve that amaze me not as much as their PR marketing crap. Beside having own in house movement will make Tudor as a stand out brand...not just like any other case builder. let's face it how many Swiss watch maker just use ETA or other similar copied movement and just built cases? look I have nothing against ETA. As u have said they are awesome movement....absolute work horse and very serviceable.
+Watch Hobbyist Come one, man. what about the fact that besides the improved power reserve, the new movement has a silicon hair spring, it's a chronometer movement, and has a full balance bridge? It's ok to say that the Modified ETA is good enough, but saying that the only benefit of the new movement over the previous is just the power reserve, is disingenuous at best!
+Watch Hobbyist I'm not sure, I have a Squale 1521 which is probably a thicker watch with 20mm lugs and I like how it looks. The watch is a beauty but I don't like how little the bracelet tapers. I prefer the tapered look on the submariner more.
My personal opinion is that Tudor is awesome and makes great watches for the money BUT I feel that one must own at least 1 rolex from the model Tudor they want. So you should have a Submariner if you are going to buy any tudor sub. You should own a daytona if you are going to buy any Tudor chrono. Its just my opinion though. Tudor is great and this particular model will be my next. I chose a speedy as my most recent purchase and my next milestone in life will most likely be a Tudor.
+ripperx444 Are you kidding? A Tudor Sub is a third the price of the Rolex, and a Tudor chrono is a fourth the price of a Daytona. Some want those styles, but simply, absolutely can't afford the Rolex.
+ryvr madduck I think if you want something you can make it happen. It won't be easy but it will happen if you work for it and want it bad enough. That said Tudor just stepped up their game with in house movement making it into the subs so that's pretty sick. I love Tudor but my personal opinion is you should own a sub and have a second watch like a black bay sub which does things Rolex won't do.
+ryvr madduck one other thing. Rolex's hold their value on the second hand market so if you did dish out for one you can sell it later and get most of your money back (if you bought it right in the first place).
This is a nice watch but its way overpriced. You could buy 5 Steinhart divers for the same price and they are also Swiss made and also have the same movement!
+Tony smith McLaren put two BMW V6's together, created a V12 and sold the F1 for £627,000 in 1993. So you could have bought hundreds of BMWs for the same money with that engine basically. The Tudor seen here is more expensive than Steinhart and after handling those, there is a massive difference in quality at least. There's also the brand name which you're [paying for of course. At the end of the day, I bought this watch because I like it, simple as that :-)
+Watch Hobbyist I've got the Tudor and 3 Steinharts and I disagree, I agree that there are differences in quality, whilst the Tudor is nicer its not that much nicer to justify the massive difference in cost. The reality is that the cost difference is due to the fact that you have to pay for the branding advertising costs (advertising the product as luxury)and huge third party dealer mark-up (the Jewellers admittedly in most cases forced to do so by the makers otherwise they will stop supplying )if you buy the Tudor. Steinhart can offer value for money but Swiss quality because they dont spend any money on advertising, its all word of mouth and because the sales are off the internet, there is no first and third part profiteering.
+Tony smith The branding is a major cost of any watch, of course. However I stand by my thoughts on the quality. The Tudor is a great watch for the price, and the Steinhart is a great watch for its price point as well. There is a difference but what you see as justification may not compare to my thoughts. I've had a LOT of watches though, and the Tudor is very, very good. Is it a keeper? I'm not sure, but I can't call the watch at all.
+Watch Hobbyist I just dont see it, the massive difference in quality you are talking about, I'm holding in front of me as we speak, the Steinhart Ocean Vintage and the Black bay Black, there isnt a £1600 difference even when you take into consideration the advertising and Jeweller mark up.
+Tony smith I often read silly things about Steinhart though which to me suggests the QC could be better. I'm not calling the brand and understand why people buy them, but "I just don't see" the comparison either... bfy.tw/3mYu

I like the hands for the most part... the minute hand is perhaps a little thin
Quick comment on the lume color. Tudor seems to match lume color to metal color. For yellow gold hands and markers, they use cream lume to mactch the warmth. For white gold, stainless surrounds, they use white lume... This trend follows for all three color options.

+Jack Tyler Hi Jack, if you haven't already purchased it, email me at info@wayne-goodman.co.uk, Thanks
How are you finding the watch?
You got the classic eta version. Tudor rose and all. The old school "self winding" description. Nice
My present dream watch, good video
The more I look at the Black Bay, the more I fall in love with it.
I just wish they made a version with a classic "racing" green bezel.
+Tobi McNobi Well they've come out with so many variants already that it's not unlikely we won't see that at some point.
Watch Hobbyist That would be amazing, I love all 3 variants so far, but I would probably be wearing the blue version the most, it just seems more versatile to me.
I already find it difficult to decide which one I like the most, adding a green version to the line-up will make it even more difficult :P
This is one of the best I have seen on this watch. Thank you.
Thanks Jim, apologies for the late response
Thanks for your thorough review.
This is my first watch and I absolutely love it. It works with jeans just as well as it does with a suit
Yeah these are very versatile, congats

Andrey Washington The black bezel was a 10-month run. Def a future collector piece.
I got the Corgeut Tudor homage and was able to afford the 1 with the metal strap.
I got the blue one as i wasn't keen on guilt. Not keen on faux vintage look on the black too. Each to their own I guess
I find the blue a little characterless, but I understand what you mean about the gilt dial
+Watch Hobbyist: very good review. I have 2 questions: 1)which version will keep better its value do you think?Yours ETA or the just now released in house mouvement version? And 2)can you put a link where we can buy the same nato bracelet as yours?

Beautiful watch- best one on the market today for sure!
That's great. I look forward to it
Nice video. The photos are stunning!
+Matthew Bowen Thanks Matthew, glad you like them
Due to pick up mine tomorrow.. happy days!
Enjoy it Gary 😊
+Watch Hobbyist I've had this on the wrist for 3 weeks now and it hasn't lost any time that i can discern, feels indestructible, looks amazing - but you already know this!
nice job with follow up review, most helpful for any potential buyer.
Thanks. Haven't stopped wearing it; great watch 😊
I want this watch even more now.
+chavo8891 Go for it! :-)
I have watched all your videos on this watch, thanks for posting. Should have mine in a week or so :)
+HungryHumbucker Enjoy... it's a fantastic piece
Love the watch. In some ways looks much better than the sub. But I just can't get past that hideous hour hand. I know it's minor, but my ocd would prevent me from not starring at that giant road sign evrytime I check the time

really helpful and great pics - thanks!
+Andrew Partridge Thanks for your kind comment :-)
Which one would you rather have? Black Bay Black or new black Pelagos? Or perhaps something else? Really can't decide which one to go with :(

4 years later it’s worth doble the price now. I love mine.
I get mine in tomorrow. Wife is going to keep it to put under the Christmas tree though...
+Matthew Bowen It'll be worth the wait :-)
Beautiful piece, thanks for sharing.
+Kyle Weber Pleasure Kyle, thanks for the comment
At 5:14 you say the crown has a twinlock, but it's design resembles the triplock. The twinlock has less gaskets/seals than this watch.
Apologies, this was one of my first reviews and I didn't look into this I guess
Very informative and lengthy video's! I really enjoyed them. It helped me to actually go and see this watch at the jeweller as I'm now considering to get one.
Don't you have a website yet? Because the photos in your video's look stunning and there is no way to see them in full res.
+deuxani Hi, thanks for your kind comment. I've been struggling for time but if a blog looks to be beneficial, I'll certainly be looking into it. For now though, I generally post reviews on forums and videos.
Hi, could you tell me the name of your book, that appears in the background and shows the details of Rolex models? Thanks!
+175139 I don't have it to hand but at the end of this week, I have a video coming up of another Submariner alternative, so stay tuned and I'll show it for you.
I bought the red BBay and the Same Bond bracelet today! Loks coooool👍👍👍
Are you from N.I.? Also, Bond NATO is not a good match color wise IMO. Straight black, please.
Heritage is not snobbery, rather a respect for originality in artistry/design
Strap looks REALLY good on your BBB!
Thank you very much...now I want one. (:
+mustang77ism I really hope you get one; it's a really great watch :-)
+Watch Hobbyist
It won me over in person. I purchased one today!
+mustang77ism Haha great news! Congrats :-)
Can you handwind the black bay as well??
+AjaxForever Yes certainly :-)
Great follow up vid mate!!
+ic3gr00v3 Thanks, much appreciated
Nice watch and even nicer strap
Thanks, yeah they worked really well together
Do you still have it?
I want one but I think I should spent the money on a rolex sub instead. Can't decide!
The Sub should do better value-wise in the long-run. I do expect there will be a new Submariner next year or the year after though with the newer 3235 movement, so it may be worth holding out. The Black Bay is a great watch though and finding an ETA model should make it cheaper, and also more collectible down the line.
NeoAndersonn being a submariner And Tudor owner, I'll be honest with you, they're virtually the same, it's basically paying 4 grand more for a name
subbed. great vid. wish it had the micro adjust though.
+vagabond88817 Thanks, I know, it's a shame but there is good levels of adjustment at least via the pin on the clasp. Thanks for subbing :-)
you missed a trailing zero in the model number
How much dose it cost in usd?
It run for roughly, $2700. I bought mine in Singapore new which is $3500 SGD = $2614 USD Hurry up and get it, it's getting pretty scarce everywhere
I'm heading to Singapore soon, where would you suggest buying one of these beauties?!
soo longing for this watch
half way there :-)
+björn Thompson Second hand they're becoming quite the bargain 👍👍👍
+Watch Hobbyist yeah i saw, just gotta find one i sweden, don´t feel comfartable dropping that kind of money on chrono24
+björn Thompson Understandable 👍👍 Good luck, I hope you find what you're looking for
there found one for 1890 sterling from watchmaster. :-) now the wait begins
who is that sax player. tks
I'm not sure sorry, it's just a song from TH-cam
Love the look of this watch. Wish the bezel insert was matte ceramic like the Pelagos. While I'm wishing....wish it was a little bit smaller as well. I like this earlier dial with the 'smile' and the Tudor Rose.
+Adam Mathews The thickness is the only thing I dislike
Is this watch AR COATED?
+jino y I can't find any info to confirm it but I think at least the underside of the crystal is as it's very clear. There doesn't appear to be any external coating though.
+Watch Hobbyist thanks! yeah, even the official tudor site doesnt mention anything. do you have a webpage? great video!
Eying this one or a smp ceramic co axial. ar on that smp is superb.
+jino y No webpage currently but I'll update the channel if I ever go down the blogging route. The SMP is a fantastic watch. I just find the skeleton hands a little hard to read in very bright situations and also at night due to the minimal surface for lume.
hoping to get one soon :D
i have the new sub no date and love it but thinking about one of these ☺
+Mark Lawrence Usually better to go Tudor first, followed by Rolex IMO Mark. It's not that it's sub-par, but it can feel like a step backward.
ohh i do like the nato strap on this watch :-)
Thanks Bjorn
The ETA is a better looking dial and, according to the Pontiff, Archie, may be more valuable than the in house.
The ETA black model will be rare in the future, and to some that will add a premium. I’d prefer the ETA for that reason, but I’d go for red with in house.
how I wish Tudor put their new in house movement instead
+Adi Susanto I know people want this but it doesn't mean too much. The ETA is very serviceable and will be cheaper to purchase. The in-house movement has a greater PR but that's really the main benefit.
+Watch Hobbyist actually it is the massive power reserve that amaze me not as much as their PR marketing crap. Will this be much collectible than the latest in house version?
Not really
Greg Miel I thought so myself! Thanks
graz ryan I think so
Marco not necessarily. may go up in value over time. especially this one with such short production time
Stick it on a Timefactors nato strap thee best straps going!
+Connell MacCool Yeah they're fantastic quality straps you're right.
Wish they had a 36-38mm :)
There is a 36mm but without bezel, and I find it looks too small. I think 39mm would have been a sweet spot but it's still too thick.
Lovely watch but I'm not a fan of 22mm lugs
+sdm107 They're good for strap options. I think 20mm would have looked awkward due to the height of the case.
+Watch Hobbyist I'm not sure, I have a Squale 1521 which is probably a thicker watch with 20mm lugs and I like how it looks. The watch is a beauty but I don't like how little the bracelet tapers. I prefer the tapered look on the submariner more.
if they would add a date feature I would buy it in a second
+Nick G Basel is around the corner. I've been expecting them to do this for a while, and also Omega with the SM300 range
Watch Hobbyist black bay steel has date
My personal opinion is that Tudor is awesome and makes great watches for the money BUT I feel that one must own at least 1 rolex from the model Tudor they want.
I'm not calling the brand and understand why people buy them, but "I just don't see" the comparison either... bfy.tw/3mYu

may i know ur wrist size please?
the squared shape on the end of the hour hand is ill conceived and an absolute turnoff and deal breaker
+Bruce Miller I'm not sure if you know, but this is called a "snowflake" hand and is reminiscent of the original Tudor submariner
