Roofnest Sparrow Rooftop Tent Review

  • We spent two nights in the new Roofnest Sparrow rooftop tent that is shown here atop a Kia Telluride.
    We found the Sparrow rooftop tent to be ideal for family campers who need instant and no-fuss shelter.
    The hard shell tent makes setup and takedown a breeze and allows root to store bedding, pillows, and small items inside the tent. The hard shell is also more durable and aerodynamic than squared-off soft-sided tents.
    Four strong hydraulic lifts instantly deploy the tent and keep it raised. A comfortable foam pad is included with the tent and will lead to a blissful night of sleep, which we've never said when camping.
    This tent is almost $3,000, but you will not find a better car camping shelter that is also fun to use.
    The Sparrow is available now

    Hey! I know I'm 2 years late to ask this question but I'm picking up a 2023 Telluride soon, and loved the product you showed off! I'm just a little confused about the whole weight limit thing. Online it says the telluride roof weight limit is 165-225 lbs, and looking at the strongest roof racks, it says it's rated for 125-165 lbs. Tried to find what the static limit is on these products but to no avail haha. I figured since you were showing off the Sparrow on the Telluride this would be the perfect place to ask! I'm a pretty big guy but the Roofnest has me really excited, so thought I'd ask!

      Congrats on the Telluride! They are great vehicles. This tent was mounted on a standard Thule crossbars. Probably not the best option and I wouldn't leave it up there for an extended period. But for a few overnight trips it worked well. If you want to keep a tent and other gear on your rack and will be sleeping in it a lot, consider a roof rack like the Slimline II from Front Runner. I've got one and I love it! They have one for the Telluride!

    Just picked up a Telluride. So far, I'm loving it. Do you still have yours?
    Also, I was curious if this tent can be installed with one person or not? I know I can lift it, but in terms of lining it up, does it require two people?

      Congrats on the Telluride. This was a loaner vehicle but I have a couple friends who recently bought Tellurides and love them. Our experience with the Telluride was fantastic. You should definitely have two people lift the tent to install it. You don't want to risk it slipping and scratching your vehicle or the tent falling and getting damaged. Once it is on, one person can adjust and line it up.

      The tent will fit any standard roof rack.

    What roof rack are you putting it on? & how many pounds can the rack hold

    • @charlesandhudson
      @charlesandhudson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tent is on a standard Thule rack with square bars that attach directly into the side rails of the Telluride.

      @@charlesandhudson I have been searching cross bar capacity and I only able to see 165 LB capacity, with the tent only weight 140 lb already, plus two adults, would the cross bar handle that?

    • @charlesandhudson
      @charlesandhudson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dachta1 That's the dynamic weight. For static weight you should check with your vehicle manufacturer. We didn't notice any issues here, but a platform roof rack would be better.

    where do you buy and install the roof racks? Also the tent doesn't have any locks?

    • @charlesandhudson
      @charlesandhudson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a Thule roof rack, but the tent will attach to any standard roof rack crossbar.

      With the right rack! But, check your static roof weight limit.

    Will this fit under a standard 7' garage opening?
    Looking to get one for my Palisade, but don't want to have to remove it everytime.
    I know the Falcon will work but afraid I won't have enough foot room in that one

      Yep and twice as much as others it's the same 10 same thing with many products all over the world the companies pay money to put their name on a branded generic 10 and they make a couple of quarks to it and charge double it's all money making
