You can peel and chop the pears, then place in a pyrex or some kind of baking dish. Then make a sponge mixture and pour over, then bake. And serve with custard or cream.
The leftover pastry , just egg wash, then grate over left over cheese on top, cut into strips, lay on baking sheet in oven, 180 for about 15 mins, cheese straws! Or reroll the pastry in the parcement paper and freeze.❤😊
I always have a tin of custard in the cupboard for emergencies! If you roll out the pastry, cut into big squares and put jam in, fold over and pinch sides you could make jam turnovers.
You can wrap and freeze your left over pastry. Don’t roll the excess into a ball just fold it over itself or you will mess up the layers that make the pastry puff pastry. Heather
Leave the oven door open while it cools down, free heat. Yes pastry can be used after the date stated as can many other fresh things, use your senses, they will tell you if it is good or bad. We grew up in the days before dates and that is how we treated all foods.
Leaving the oven door open after cooking it always a good tip that I use in colder months. Even if it is open slightly (if cats are a concern), you'll still benefit.
I love your recipes. My Mother used to make rice pudding with nutmeg sprinkled on the top. We used to fight over who had the darkest part of the skin on top 😂. As I live in an older person's complex in a depressing urban area, i am living my rural life through you, and for that, I thank you sincerely.

You could try putting some butter and brown sugar in the bottom before adding the fruit. Makes a nice caramel type sauce. Definitely reuse the leftover dough! Possibly make a ham and cheese turnover sandwich if you like.
A few raisins&cinnamon in it, the spare pastry will be ok in the fridge til tomorrow then make few jam tarts Sean, white over here in south yorkshire, how beautiful it all looks ,stay warm, stay safe ❤
With the left over pastry you cna rub a bit of butter on it and then sprinkle a cinnamon sugar mis roll iit up and cut it into rings like a cinnamon roll and bake it for a quick sweet treat or you cna rub a bit of butter on it and spread a bit of jam and do the same thing. Either way it is a quick and easy way to use up left over pastry.
The best before date on food products just means in order to get the best result like the company wants you to recieve use the product before the date stamped on the food product. Good morning Sean, would you consider doing a episode of your editing? It would be interesting to see your process and your thoughts on what goes in and what doesn't. Appreciate your consideration
You saying about mining out the filling of a pie reminds me of when as a school boy being sent to the shop to get a crusty long tin loaf on the way home I broke a corner off and eat it I then pulled a bit of the inside out and eat it by the time I got home I'd eaten most of the inside of the loaf, mum was less than happy about it as it was wanted for tea and by the time I got home it was too late to go back and get another one 😊
This reminds me of when I was a little girl sent to buy a nice, fresh sandwich loaf in the nearby town (about a mile away from our village). It smelled so tempting on the way home, in its crusty perfection, that I arrived home with an entirely crustless loaf! Such measures were taken on my return that never again did a loaf arrive in our kitchen naked!😂🌴🇦🇮
Good evening Sean It doesn't hurt to add a bit of whatever ingredients you have in your store cupboard, it saves buying other spices and when you deviate from a recipe, you can make something to suit your own tastebuds. I made a pear and apple crumble yesterday with some almond extract in it and im having it for my tea with some custard tonight 😋 Glad you have still kept the baking spirit going even though you gave up your classes, nice results! Take care Sean 💜
Hi Sean. I was hoping you might do some christmas cooking for vlogmas. I do love mince pies. That pie you made looked delicious, never thought of using pears in a pie 🥧
I usually cut the left over pastry in strips and freeze . Then when I make a fruit or meat pie I just make a lattice cover . But cinnamon is a must with apples for me. Your pie looks fantastic. Great job Sean.
Sean I make a similar apple crisp as my aunt did to have with tea after school. I sprinkle a bit of flour/ cinnamon/ and sugar mixed into the apples then we mix up equal parts quick cooking oatmeal/ flour / sugar into a crumble by using melted butter and then sprinkle on top. It goes amazing with a bit of cream or ice cream and tea or alone warm. You can mix any left over fruit in it you would like to use up. Best desert with Tea. 😊 bake until golden brown.
Sean just an idea for you, concerning the fridge and its space. When I lived alone I had the same size of fridge and always found space difficult. I got myself a picnic cool-box and kept it outside in my yard. Kept items in it that didnt need everyday but freed up space inside. Its insulated enough that things dont freeze outside but still keeps cold. Just an idea that I have used in past. Thanks for another vid and take care 👍
Yes you can put a pear into fruit pie 😋 also if you havent got any cream or ice cream etc in, then by mixing one part melted butter to three parts milk and a lot of elbow greese you can make your own cream . Yes and you can roll the pastry up and use it again. 🍏🍐🥧😋👌
Rather than a pie you could use all the pastry in one go. Place the pastry on a board opened out, spread your filling generously over half, leave a space around the perimeter, say 1cm, wet that with milk or egg and fold over the rest of the pastry, press together, milk the top, sprinkle a bit of sugar and bake, cut and serve. Apples cook down so you need to put plentry into the filling. No waste. You can do any filling, a savoury is nice with cheese and leek, cook leek first tho.
