ASMR is essentially a made up acronym (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response ) used to describe that tingly / buzzing feeling you may have experienced in your head or running down your spine. The sensation can be triggered by personal attention, tutorials, sounds etc. If you are discovering "ASMR" videos for the first time, their primary purpose is just to relax and almost always to send the listener to sleep. Please be mindful that all roles assumed in my videos, are simply that - a role. I am not a licensed Doctor, Therapist or medical professional in anyway.

Hello everyone :D Okay so of course I have to start with a very sincere apology. I am sorry i've misread the situation so badly here and of course i've immediately removed the sponsor from "those who shan't be named" The video can take a few hours to change apparently but i've informed my team that we won't be working with them again in the future.
Okay, I want to try to explain how we reached this point. When "they" were mentioned initially, i googled a lot of the controversy and also found several documents explaining what had happened. I sincerely felt that the truth had become very muddled in speculation and that they actually offered a service that can really help people. I went on to test it myself and thought it seemed really great and it's something that could actually help. However, when i released the video, i woke up to some very disappointed individuals and for this i'm really so sorry. I never want to betray anyone's trust and if some of my community feel this is a poor choice - then it's straight out the door!
To confirm, no money has been received, I wasn't/will not be paid for anybody who clicked the link either.

Yeah I think they’ve done a “good job” (scummy thing) of hiding the controversies with SEO optimized endorsements so no one who isn’t “in the know” can’t find it.
Genuinely a great response to concerns from the community! Mistakes are made by everyone, but not everyone handles them as well as this.

I wasn't going to say anything, despite some disappointment with the sponsor, just because I know that not every content creator can be up to date and fully informed on every controversy with the platform-- especially if you've got another job and a full outside life to manage! But after coming back to listen before going to bed and seeing the pinned comment and noting the removed sponsor segment, I feel obligated to put it out there that I'm really impressed and touched that you care enough to pull the plug on the sponsorship as soon as you saw the comments and dug into the details more. Especially since you tried the service and it worked for you, it'd be easy to simply dig in your heels and say that you still think it's a good service. But as someone who knows others hurt by the company, I'm really glad you chose to trust the stories and experiences of others who've written about them over the years.
Thanks for what you do, Matt, and thanks for caring enough to make so many changes so late in the game with money on the line. I'm sure there's an argument to be made that the long-term loss of trust would outweigh the sponsorship payment, but so often creators either don't want to lose the revenue or can't afford to not get paid, and so everyone loses out. What you chose here may not be the choice every creator can afford to make, but it means a lot that you trusted your supporters and (to be frank) strangers on the internet like me enough and cared enough to do it.
Wish nothing but the best for you and your team, and I'll be looking forward to whatever you upload next as much as I ever did before.
Matt, I want to commend you for your response on the sponsorship and the comments about it. I myself never even knew about their reputation so I also don’t blame you for partnering in the first place.

Can you do an episode where you’re a coffee shop owner or a bakery shop owner ? I just love different role plays and you’re the absolute best at them.

Just wanted to say I really appreciate you making these videos. Amazing quality, very relaxing.
Fore the people that don't know, better help has had a lot of lawsuits about selling user data (as in the problems you discuss with their therapists, so the thing that would break the hyppocratic oath if they promised real therapists, which they don't) plus there are a lot of horror stories about better help. There are also some analysis videos on how they end up being more expenssive than normal therapy. So before you decide to try anything out please inform yourself.
And i find it very sad to see that sponsorship here i truly expected better. It only takes 2 minutes to realise how scatchy they are....

Let's not crucify a man who makes endless high quality videos for you for free because you find fault with the entity that sponsored a video.
Well it is a bit more than that. They are proven to scam people and sell their data. (Not the Email kind, probably that too, but the depression kind. They sold data obtained in sessions with clients.) And it is well known. If you google betterhelp you can find lawsuits... like we are not talking about a scatchy promo. You activly sell out your audiance to them if you promote them. Plus there are people who talked about their expiriance, and their therapists being untrained and therefore them activly harming their patients.
Um... why not? Better help is preying on mentally ill people, that is the worst kind of offense any company can do. I can live with an overpriced shitty lifestyle product but health is where I draw the line. Mental health counts.
It’s not about crucifying Matt, I generally love his content but I dislike the business he has decided to advertise. I simply want to communicate that better help is damaging and should not be supported. Hopefully he will take the feedback on board in choosing his sponsorships in the future.
I don't think it's unreasonable to say that content creators bear - at a minimum - the responsibility to do due diligence on which companies they promote. In cases of ads like this, the creators are quite literally putting their voice behind the company's products/services. Crypto scams and other incredibly sketchy business models are becoming increasingly prevalent in recent years, and if a creator puts their voice behind the wrong product, it is often directly to the real harm of their own audience.
I don't think the creators are responsible for putting in dozens of hours of research on these companies, knowing every person involved in them, etc. but they should at least do enough due diligence to check for glaring red flags. In the case of Better Help, there are glaring red flags.

And fyi, every social media platform that you use does use all your personal data for everything. Every commerical business invades privacy in some or the other way. Matt isn't responsible for anything and he is here to do good. "Do not take money from Betterhelp" isn't going to solve stuff so just enjoy the asmr and try not to give a shit about how he is being sponsored.
