Thank you for making such an incredible song! It captures the essence of the game beautifully; if somebody played it to me, I genuinely would have thought it was composed by Woody Jackson himself!
17:35 My grandpa grew up in a very rural part of Pennsylvania when there weren't a lot of cars. Most people rode horses. He told me about how he and his friend would go to the bar after work, get black out drunk, and fall asleep on their horse while it walked them back home. The story was also told at his funeral by said friend
Ain't that the life, no ubers no coming back the next morning to collect your car... just get wasted and have your horse whisk you back home nice and safe... makes you wonder why people care so much about autonomous cars, we already had them a century ago... horses lol
I love how they say "Ain't no one 'round here got five thousand dollars friend." When for most players (or at least me) Arthur actually does have around five thousand dollars.

One thing that you didn't mention during ''the battle of shady belle' is that if you don't kill the Lemoyne raider in the master bed room he will have a monologue before offing himself during which he says that they have been fighting against carpetbaggers. Carpetbaggers is a term used for northerners who moved to the south after the civil war for either political or monetary gains. I don't remember if he also used scalawag, which were southerners who after the war worked with blacks and northerners.
As a fellow historian, I love this deeper dive into RDR2. The only part I hate is the end, but then it makes me excited for the next video. Keep up the awesome work!
Stoked to hear about the historical contexts behind Saint Denis. It’s a beautiful city in game. That faux French, American Victorian style is just beautiful.
As someone who lives in New Orleans, Saint Denis is a real treat! Having not played RDR2 a ton, I’ve already found 2 incredibly accurate land marks. Come visit some day once Covid isn’t scary.
This series is so well made, with the exactly correct amount of details and so eloquently conveyed, it is firmly placed as my all-time favourite on TH-cam. An amazing way to revisit and dig deeper into a game that felt like so much more than a game.
It’d be cool if you’d talk about the Spanish-American War and how its portrayed in RDR2. I get it’s a small part of the game in terms of content but it’d be nice if light was shed on such an important war in US history.
When you were talking about horses remembering their way home, it reminded me of a story I know. Where I live, there are a bunch of Old Order Mennonite people whose main method of transportation is by horses. I’ve heard of one mennonite getting extremely drunk, which is surprising due to their religious beliefs, and he got on his horse and it took him home.
i´ve heard similiar stories about alaska and remote canadian areas. usually the village drunk has an old well ridden horse they use to get to their drinking holes, almost like an autopilot ^^
That reminds me of my uncles story from his military days in the good ol Polish communists army. They used horses for transportation and there was this one old horse they were supposed to put down but didn't, they all decided to "retire" him in the stables. Unfortunately it looked as if the horse got sick or something; didn't want to eat, previously always very cheerful now avoided people and other horses and kept his head down and such. Soldiers from the unit quickly realised what happened... The horse became depressed after retiring. His work was taken from him and now while other horses were taken out from the stable in the morning to do their job he was being left behind like an useless old fuck he technically was. Hence the depression. As nothing else helped they finally decided on a solution, the simplest of them all - every morning they would take the old cunt alongside other horses to work, but while every other horse was carrying some heavy duty cargo, the old horse was strapped to a trolley full of nothing. And here he was, no need for a rider even, he's happily following the rest of their horse crew thinking he's back in action and being useful again, and his depression disappeared. Lack of actual cargo didn't bother him but they had to strap him to a trolley or something as he would refuse to leave the cargo station otherwise. Smart enough to know he needs the trolley to do the job but too dumb to realise its useless being empty. Fascinating animals. Idk how is this related beyond being a story of a horse but I wrote it down already so it's too late to back down
@@aw2584sorry for reviving a 2 year old comment, but, aint it crazy how the horse loved their work that much?! I guess karl marx was right when he said man’s essence is also in their work, and the horse must enjoy being useful and doing important things :). I was originally going to be pessimistic and say that “look we raised horses to love forced labour” but actually the horse must’ve grown up like that and sees that as a normal thing. Kind of reminds me of how some domesticated dogs get depressed even if they get fed and have all the toys in the world-they need their family (their owner or other animals to accompany them) or need something useful to do to keep them occupied
A bit of Lemoyne Raider info helps confirm that Saint Dennis is New Orleans and the Kamassa River is the Mississippi River. You can find a group of Lemoyne Raiders in a camp near the southern coast of Lemoyne. They’re discussing their time in the Civil War. Their platoon was stationed at a fort on the Kamassa River and even though they didn’t see actions for months they were kept there. They say they knew if the Union were going to take Saint Dennis, which they knew the Union wanted to take, they’d have to sail down the Kamassa River eventually. This aligns with history quite nicely. The Mississippi River connects 1/4 of North America via navigable rivers. At one point, New Orleans was the wealthiest city in the world due to the sheer traffic it saw from the Mississippi River. When the French first colonized Louisiana they put a fort at the mouth of the River because they recognized the vital importance of controlling it. The Union also knew this, and it was a goal from the beginning to take New Orleans and cut off all southern shipping and naval transportation. Whoever controlled New Orleans controlled the Mississippi River, which is why they had troops stationed at key points at the mouth of the River at all times. These particular Lemoyne Raiders were a part of those troops. I didn’t hear you mention this is the previous video or this one, so I wanted to bring it up in case you missed it. It’s really neat all the small details in this game you can find. This is my third time through the game and my first time even finding this camp. Enjoying your videos. Keep up the good work. Sorry if you did mention this and I just missed it.
Great series. I've only noticed this on later playthroughs because these are hard details to spot, but there's crazy historical details in a lot of the newspapers, some of which tie into the characters. I remember that in this chapter, there's a newspaper clipping that Sean keeps which seems to be about his father (I think he mentions him in passing at some point?) that states him being arrested by British authorities in Ireland or Britain for his Fenian activities. The touch of Sean's father being a member of the Fenian/Irish Republican Brotherhood is seem pretty cool history. I don't remember much about the clipping besides the general gist of "Her Majesty's police [I think?]" arresting Sean's father for 'subversive' activities. I think the newspaper is at Clemen's Point before "A Short Walk in a Pretty Town." There's also a newspaper clipping about the Philippine-American War and I think Bill Williamson comments on it at some point? I don't remember if this instance came at Horseshoe Overlook or Clemen's Point though.
It's an actual nickname while "Cattleman" wasn't, it's the Model 1873 Colt Army. It's taken from a Bible verse. "Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called the Sons of God." Pretty good one.
16:35 "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of property" was first used by Locke's "Two Treatises of Government" in 1689. It was adapted by Jefferson when drafting the Declaration of Independence nearly 100 years later.

Something that you didn't add is the Gadsden flag in the Rhoades gunshop, which although made in 1775 didn't really have the grass underneath it until around WW1 but the flag in the store does have grass on it, If you're wondering where it is in the store, it's hung above the counter to the right
Sir, firstly I want to say I really enjoy your video's on historical accuracy of rdr2. Reckon its a hell of a lot of work to make em, let alone to do the research. Nevertheless I would like to request a follow-up episode, cause since you hint at Saint-Denis at the end of this video I reckon you already started on the video but lost motivation. So please mr. Real Pixels, make this history student from the Netherlands (thats right, im dutch ahaha) happy and finish the episode. Thank you, and I salute you sir
In your chapter six video you should mention the dialogue where Arthur brings up a sanitarium to cure his TB, it is very missable dialogue that you can get while talking with rains fall with low honor
When you mention 2 bits and that being an insult. I’ve heard (from man vs history) that it was not used as a insult originally because 2 bit salons were considered high end in the 1800s.

Watched the entire series last week and a new episode today just made my day! This one went by fast, it's too damn good! Thanks for your great work, love your videos!
I can't wait for the next part !
I'm so happy everytime I see a new video of this series on my subscription page !
I fucking love this series. Are you continuing it? No pressure just love the content.
I'd say the closest the game gets to discussing slavery is in the stranger mission with the old guy sleeping on a bench in Rhodes, who turns out to have been a slave trader
This video and this series as a whole is criminally under viewed and underrated! Keep up the fantastic work!
Thank you for being dedicated to something and sharing your love for this amazing game
i really love your story telling and content. rdr2 is one of my favourite games and this just makes me happy knowing how realistic and how much effort rockstar put into this wonderful game
The work you put into your vids and especially these history vids on rdr2 always make for some of my favorite content on youtube, big props and amazing work my guy!
these videos are amazing you should put them all together and cut out the intros and outros i've been binging them all night lol
the effort that goes into these is insane. thank you for such quality content.
Seriously man you’re so fuckin thorough you’ve cemented this as the greatest video game epic EVER …..
Your videos are incredible man, pure dedication. One of my favorite TH-cam series that’s still going
I feel like one of the only things you missed was the history behind the safes used in the bank mission, but these videos are great and very impressive
Awesome video, thank you! Hope that you'll keep doing these
to be honest this game is the best which was ever made , everything about it is a beauty is a mature game
Man, the weekend just got even better. Thanks for this series man, it's a real treat
I saw another comment that said this, but I just want to reinforce it. The amount of research that is done in these videos is just amazing. I’m actually learning so much about history and it’s about one of my favorite games at the same time. Everything is perfect; the editing, the music, even your voice. There are people in the comments not only spreading their knowledge as well, but correcting each other in kind and humble ways. You’re methods are spreading nothing but positivity and knowledge and I absolutely love it. Please keep going you’re doing fantastic
Man I *LOVE* these videos. I wish I could put the amount of quality and effort into my videos like this guy. Very well done as usual 👏
Oh yes! I was wondering recently if another one of these would come out soon. So masterfully researched and put together. A thoroughly enjoyable and informative watch from start to finish. Thank you for your dedication!
I'm a simple person, I see that Real Pixels uploaded a new history related Red Dead video, I click
Keep up the amazing work dude
Very excited for the next entry in this series! Great work, as always, these videos are fantastic and I find myself re-watching them often. Keep up the great work!
Interesting as always. Your eye for detail never fails to amaze. Looking forward to the next one.
Great video! Thank you for putting some time into research and bringing the rich backstory of RDRII to us.
Great video can’t wait for the saint Dennis chapter!
Well done very good. Very interesting. Can tell alot of time and research was spent in making the video. Can't wait for the other game chapters.
These videos are a real treat for me. Seriously appreciate the quality and time you put into these. Well done 👍🏽
This series is awesome! The amount of research you put in to this is amazing!
This is real quality. You should be real proud of this work man!
Dude, your Channel is AMAZING, keep doing this incredible job
You sir just gained a new fan. Love a good history lesson and rd. This couldn’t be any better a TH-cam video in my opinion. Great work!
I was hoping you could go into more details about Confederate renegades who also kept fighting after this civil war like Jesse James and other bandits around the Midwest
The Outlaw Josey Wales
@@venividi8523 I mean... he's not real but that film/book is still worth a mention as a good watch/read, even if the book's author turned out to be a piece of shit.
@@FinbarGallagher Quiet
i had no idea that jesse hanes were confederate soldiers
How historically accurate is American Truck Simulator
Bro I’ve been waiting for ages for this glad you dropped it and we all appreciate the effort you put in these videos and more to come cause we all know the length of RDR2
Me: *bored scrolling through recommended.*
TH-cam: video by real pixels
Me: How long did you keep this from me?!
TH-cam: It was litterly uploaded 6 min ago
Sometimes youtube knows me
Glad to know that TH-cam has my back sometimes. 😎
I'm actually happy someone made a video like this I always wonder how accurate Rockastar was going with this game
I also like the mission name “blessed are the peacemakers” because the colt single action “peacemaker” is the main revolver the player is given.
Love this series. I already can’t wait to see the next one
love this series, hope you finish the whole game of this series and possibly continue and do rdr1 🙏 great work
I was at the iron Bank last weekend in Columbus Georgia! Now it’s just a neat little coffee shop, in the downtown area. They have a huge menu, and you can sit inside the bank Vaults, which is pretty cool!
Oh wow, that sounds incredible!
Literally just watched your last RDR2 vid for the first time. And now you've blessed me with more great content. Thanks Pixels 🥳
This is my first video from him now I'm a fan
@@theoutsiderjess1869 nice. I'd highly recommend going back and watching his other RDR2 videos. The effort and research he puts into them is insane.
thank u so much for making this series u really lighten up my day :)
This is such a great little series you have started. Keep up the good work cowpoke 😁
Wow...What a great story telling and beautifully video editing...thank you so much for the video.
Something that you didn't add is the Gadsden flag in the Rhoades gunshop, which although made in 1775 didn't really have the grass underneath it until around WW1 but the flag in the store does have grass on it,
If you're wondering where it is in the store, it's hung above the counter to the right
Criminally underrated channel, love your content man; keep it up!
No loss of motivation-just a lot to unpack in Saint Denis! Video is up now. 😊
@@RealPixels ure great thank you!
In your chapter six video you should mention the dialogue where Arthur brings up a sanitarium to cure his TB, it is very missable dialogue that you can get while talking with rains fall with low honor
"He has alot to thank his horse for" Oh you have no idea **cries**
10:13 Even after 4 years I still learn new things about the game. I had no idea you could hear those voices.
This whole video (and series) is amazing. But I want to do a special shout out to how you did the credits in time with the music 😂
They're always the most fun to edit! Thanks so much for the kind words. 😊
Thanks for these videos, they really helped with my post chapter 6 depression
When you mention 2 bits and that being an insult. I’ve heard (from man vs history) that it was not used as a insult originally because 2 bit salons were considered high end in the 1800s.
These videos are so interesting. Thanks for taking the time to make them.
