I was so mad after reading this. My daughter jamine was loved by her brothers, sister, nieces, nephews and all their friends. She had cerebral Palsy. When she passed January 31 2020. I received so messages over Facebook, messaged and mail. She went everywhere with us. Their are who say the stupidest things, but we ignored them. My oldest was 9 when he was suspended from school for beating up a school mate for talking about his little sister. I was very proud that he stood up for her.,❤️

Sorry for your loss, but I believe those who knew her were lucky people. I went to school with a young lady with same issues and the most sweetest person I knew. We always celebrated her birthday each year with a special gift, card and her favorite type boxed cupcakes to take home to enjoy with her two siblings. Her family struggled a bit with medical bills, so holidays and Birthdays would be the same for the siblings too. The parents were always appreciative. They moved before we all graduated to be closer to the hospital.

I worked in an ER for twenty nine years. Sadly, I have seen EXACTLY that situation occur on more than one occasion, where an entitled parent brings a child in with a fever or minor cut and makes a scene because the patient with major trauma is seen first. I wish I could say it was rare, but it was a common event.
Interrupting a notification is not even the worst; I have seen Kens and Karens actually interrupt a defibrillation team during a code because their little baby had the sniffles, and they were here first! Compare this to the old lady having a heart attack who doesn't want to cause a fuss, which happens less often but still manages to restore my faith in human kindness after the parade of self important idiots who refuse to appreciate triage.

I remember once years ago my little brother who was maybe 4-5 at the time had clocked himself in the back of the head with the claw of a hammer, and he was bleeding pretty badly and throwing up. My mom rushed him to the hospital. My sister and I stayed home with our dad so the rest of this is just from what I overheard my mom complaining about to my dad after they got back home with my brother all stitched up and bandaged. Apparently, there was another parent in the ER who's kid had the sniffles. They had gotten there first but when my mom came running in with her baby with hair matted with blood, he was taken back immediately. This upset the other parent who had been waiting because they had been there first. The nurse had to explain to the parent that a head injury was much more of an emergency than a kid with the sniffles, please step aside and let them do their job.

Geez! I thought everyone knew that in the ER it is not first come first served but most injured first and downward from there. With least injured or sick being last. But may e it could be that during my youth there were much more medical shows than recently. Now the trend is cop shows. Growing up with shows like M.A.S.H., Dr. Welby, M.D. and General Hospital makes a difference. Even some of the mysteries were medical, like Quincy, M.E., and Diagnosis Murder. They all showed versions of triage. Especially M.A.S.H. It was definitely a comedy but they also showed how an ER works. Just a thought.

Story 3; while it's nice to have a "man" that can fix a hinge, I've learned how to do it myself. When my son was growing up I taught him how to basic cook, wash dishes/laundry, hand sew a button, put gas in the car, tighten/loosen screws/pipes, check the fluids of my car, etc. Basically I taught him how to take care of himself, it's nice to have someone around to "help" but also nice to do it yourself. When the internet became a "thing" I taught him how to look up "how-to" do, like change the oil, make home made bread, etc.
A few years ago I bought myself a brand new, right out of the crate 50cc TaoTao scooter, I looked on TH-cam to change the oil when it came time. My neighbor offered to do it for me, but he never came over, so I did it myself. He then decided to do it 3 days after I already did it, then got pissed at me when I told him I already had done it. 🤦‍♀️

My mother taught my brothers to cook as well. There is something very wrong with a grown man who doesn't know how to feed himself. LOL I on the other hand, loved to help my dad with car repair when I was growing up. My own daughter got an A in high school mechanics - she took apart and reassembled a car engine no problem. And in turn, my granddaughter got under the sink with tools and fixed my daughter's garburator when she was 10. We're all kinda girl, no tomboys, just...normal people who can do stuff. My grandson can cook, and contributes to the housework so he's not helpless either. Parents need to teach their kids as much as possible, and not split it based on gender.

It didn't sound to me like the GF's parents were berating him for not "being a man". They simply stated every man should know how to fix things around the house. I would go further to say that everyone (man or woman) should know how to fix things around the house. They SHOULD know. That doesn't mean they HAVE to know.
While what they said was technically correct, it was rude and implied he was less of a man because he didn't know how. I love his response. "Well, I need to start focusing on 'manly' things so I wont be doing the womanly tasks any longer"

When I got my first apartment, my dad said "No daughter of mine will have her own place without basic tools". He bought me a toolset as a housewarming gift, a real set and not one of those flimsy pink sets for women. I've learned how to do many basic repairs and put together small furniture myself. He was very handy himself and I'm glad I'm able to do a lot on my own. My dad and I both have significant physical disabilities and still do as much as we can on our own.
My boyfriend has Asperger's, is high functioning and his parents do EVERYTHING for him and he still lives at home, but fortunately has his own apartment as it's a huge house. There were some things I needed done that I was planning on doing myself and he says "My dad can do that. No offense but he can do a better job". I get very frustrated when he asks his dad to help me with something even though I can do it on my own and I wasn't asking for any help.
Once his dad said I needed certain repairs on my car and he said "You need to have x-y-z done and I'm sure you don't know about this, but this is what you need to ask for". I told him that I already knew that I needed it and planned on having it done. He was talking down to me and barely knows me as I've only interacted with him a few times. Instead of teaching their son how to do different things, they just do it for him because it's easier and quicker for them. My parents taught me how to be as independent as possible, even with my disabilities so all of this is mind boggling to me.

I've been sitting in the emergency room when people start complaining about how long they are have been there. I inform them that it's not first come first serve. It's whoever is in the most medical need is first, the least is last. And then remind them that they are at a level 3 trauma center. That shuts them right up. lol

I see so many commenters saying OP should just take Cindy. You can't do that. Her parents are her legal guardians. If OP took her, she would be arrested for kidnapping. You may disagree with how parents treat their children, but it isn't your place to take them and "save" them any more than if someone else didn't agree with your parenting style and tried to take your children. OP shouldn't marry into that family, but she has no say in how her in-laws choose to raise THEIR daughter. She can try to petition the court for custody, but I can pretty much guarantee that would not be successful.

I have always felt that the hardest thing for a doctor or surgeon to do, is tell the anyone that despite their best efforts, the patient is gone. I just has to take as much of a toll on the medic, but so often, that is not taken into consideration. The reason I say this? My friends wife is a surgeon, and she lost a patient. The patients family went to one of those medical malpractice leeches (with no medical credentials) to sue. It's been ongoing for a year now, and despite all the evidence of non survivable catastrophic injuries to the patient, the leech still tries to press that they could have been saved. It's sickening. I am not talking about any kind of monetary gains here, I am talking about what it does to medics that dedicate their lives to saving people, that may be lost due to no fault of their own.

She's a coward that can't stand up to her parents (nor wants to) and it's easier to side with the "winning side" (AKA The two entitled adult brats that need to get with the times that created her over her husband) then her man. Despite benefiting HARD from him doing all those other "unmanly things" for her! She knows her parents wouldn't do any of the things that husband does for her as they'll cling to their "what a man and woman should be" mindset! Yet likely is appealing to them cause she knows they have something for her if anything happens to them, so wants to keep them happy no matter what (Best way to enslave your kids to the "side with you over even their lover/spouse/kids" is to show them what you'll leave them when you go to the "great beyond!" If it's alot and they have zero shame! They'll even ask you "how deep do you want them to stab the dagger into the betrayed" with no shame!)
Hope she has fun missing all those perks she's going to have to do "as the woman" and her work! I don't see it lasting before she's trying to weasel her way into getting them back without admitting her parents are full of shit out of stubborn pride before caving or the relationship falls apart (out of fear and pride I guess that she thinks if she ever thinks outside the program, she'll reveal "her true thoughts" towards her parents!)

Real Man Story: My wife's dad was a mechanical engineer and did wood working as a hobby. She grew up being taught how to do basic construction and how to fix things. I am inept at those things. When we had our first kid she made me put the crib together. It would have taken her about 20-30 minutes (I have seen her blow through Ikea furniture in that amount of time.) The crib took me almost 3 hours. She said it was good for me. 😄

People who smoke often feel entitled to smoke anywhere they go. I, too, am allergic to cigarette smoke. I used to know a woman who was not my friend, especially, but the wife of a friend of my SO. She would come to our house and clap her hands over her nose and mouth while demanding that our cat be removed and locked in the basement, because she was allergic to cats. Then she'd light up and blow smoke in my face all evening, until my eyes were red and teary, both my nostrils swollen shut, and my throat sore and raw. She would grandly claim that I just didn't LIKE smoking, and that once I had "gotten used to it," I wouldn't have any more problems. I finally responded with, "Okay, then. Just let me get the cat, and we'll start curing YOUR allergy right here." She then went into hysterics about how HER allergy was REAL, and mine just wasn't possible, or I couldn't "survive in the world."
I wasn't sorry to finally see the last of that heifer.

i'm a heavy smoker and a grandmother too, but i will NEVER smoke in a house where smoking is prohibited by the occupants of said house!
my parents used to be smokers too untill my mother developed lungcancer, they stopped immediatly and smoking was from than on prohibited there. (mom did survive the lungcancer and lived on for another 12 years, the pancreatic cancer she got at that time did her in.)
if i'm visiting my granddaughter in my former son in law's house and i want to smoke, i step outside, just like he does. (son in law smokes too, but never in the house!)
when the weather is foul, we step into the shed with the door wide open to smoke...

Instead I had two friends take me to the hospital.
When we got there the nurse said to me " you will
have to take a seat, we just had a bad shooting and 2 victims here in ambulances". I told the nurse that I won't take a seat because I am one of the victims. She finally took her eyes 👀 off the window and looked at me and me bleeding arm. She took me straight back.

Story 3. OP has a good head on his shoulders. I love my husband, but it took me 10 years of marriage to covince him to stop trying to do every repair himself. One time he got tired of the spray focett sticking, so he broke it off. This made the problem worse as the broken faucet started gushing water. Then there was the time something got stuck in the phone jack. He decided to fix the problem with a hammer. While he was looking for a hammer, I fixed the problem with a hair tie. I used and old hair tie to pinch the offening object close and pulled it out. Growing up my father taught me how to do minor repairs and how to assemble furniture. Women have just as much rights and responsibilities as men.

My husband of 42 years was a deeply religious and faithful husband. He was very good understanding theology and economics. He was a fantastic nurse.
He knew how to change a tire, but could NOT do any other repairs. In fact if he picked up a hammer, he could injure himself! LOL! We would call repair men to fix things in the house. If our neighbors knew how to do stuff, we'd pay them or do other things for them in exchange. This family did not have to ridicule the young husband, he just had to be taught. Also, not knowing how to fix things DOES NOT mean you are not a man! My husband was the most perfect wonderful MAN on earth. I will ne er marry again because no man alive could e er fill his shoes, and he couldn't repair anything in the house. I loved him greatly still.♥️

My comment for the last story, the advice I would give the OP would be something my brother told me, the only person's consent is the one that it affects. In other words I would have simply said that I would like if Cindy would come then I would have asked Cindy if she felt she would be comfortable being there for the wedding even if there might me looks and possibly ugly comments directed toward her since she is a teen she should be able to make up her own mind. The reason that the MIL and BF didn't want her there is what I would mention (odd looks and mean comments) using those words to warn Cindy about that way they have few arguments to stand on if she knows the possible consequences. By leaving the option completely up to Cindy it would help her feel included and a bit of empowerment over herself. Just my two cents on the situation.
