  • In Episode 299 of Mike Finnegan's Garage we continue modifying my 1998 GMC Sierra W/T. I bought this truck in Texas with just over 12,000 miles on the odometer and then drove it about 1,000 miles back home to Georgia. Now it's time to make it lower, louder and faster in time to show it off at the 2024 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. This video is Part 2 of a full Ridetech coilover conversion and will cover the revamp of the rear suspension. If you want more info on the Ridetech kit, go here:
    ridetech.com/p...
The Road To SEMA video series is brought to you by the good folks at Bling Sauce and it's Platinum lineup of car care products. Not only are the partnering with me on the videos but also an awesome contest that could bring you and a friend to the exclusive SEMA 2024 show in Las Vegas, Nevada 5-8. I'll have more details on that trip very soon but just know that you're going to be flown to Sin City, picked up at the airport by a car service, you're going to stay in a great hotel, experience the SEMA Show and meet this truck and myself in person. It's gonna be great! Don't forget that right now you can score 16oz bottles of Bling Sauce Secret Sauce, Leather Sauce, and Trim Sauce at Auto Zone and you'll save $4.00 if you grab two bottles while you're there.
For more information on Bling Sauce products, go here: blingsauce.com...

I always laugh watching guys fight trying to put the center section in. In my younger days dirt track racing with our modified we would have to change them for different tracks. One night we smoked a pinion bearing during the heat race, actually had it glowing red. Now trying to do it cool or slightly warm is one thing. Pulling one that is literally smoking is a whole nother world. At the time I was 6 2 and maybe 145 soaking wet. I could throw one in without a problem. Was so thankful when they changed the rules and let us use a quick change rear end. Went from a 30 min job to a 5 min job. Just had to remember that big man always goes on top.

You're not lyin'... KnKut twist drills are excellent. We sold 'em where I used to work. Salesman demo'd them by asking if I had a grade 8 bolt. I brought him one, he put it in a vise and drilled right through it in seconds with no oil. And once he drilled through it, he ovaled the hole just by some side to side action with the drill. I ordered a display and some sets for stock right then.

I was hoping they were going to wash the back of the cab and the bed before they put it back together. Either way it’s cool.
I would drive it around before you put the rowdy V-8 in it, that way you can hear if your suspension, and tires are making any weird noises etc.

Love the tinsel strength 💪 test of zip ties. And GM didn't paint the frames they wax dipped them.

If you use a rope and thread it through the stake holes and make a X out of it then you can pick up the bed with cherry picker

I kinda get the shonky screw/cable tie/duct tape contraption as 'needs must', but I'd have put a couple more lengths under the sides of the bed lip to spread the weight a little more...

Ron Roades might disagree with not going fast with leaf springs.

NBD trucks are easier to pull the bed, you run a pair of ratchet straps across the tie downs and then hook them on the engine hoist.

i've used ratchet straps making an x in the bed and used a engine hoist to lift it that way and wood as jack stands incase it fell off the straps

I’m just wondering why Ridetech wouldn’t have built the rear coilover brackets to go to the inside for more tire clearance 🤔 To me that’s 80% of the reason for ditching the leaf springs 💁🏻‍♂️

Ever try nails or screws to hold the 2x4's together? I hear it works great.
