A typical day for Tyler: drives his Diablo to go check on the R8, then takes his Ferrari to pick up the ML 63. Ignore for a moment (really, just a moment) that every one of them is an unreliable, money-eating, problem-laden basket case, and this man is living THE LIFE! 😁😁😁

What I have learned about Audi R8s from TH-cam: "It's an ultra-reliable supercar...now I'm going to half-ass mod it until it never runs right again."
Audi's have never had a reputation for being reliable.
@@viralsheddingzombie5324 it depends. Audi inline-4s, inline-5s (specially) and even their v10s are great. The v8 in the r8 though, not so much, super complex and finicky.

@@LuanCristianThums That's not even close to true my guy, the inline 4's have crazy issues, we've had several go boom on us in less than 5 years of ownership, the inline 5's are solid, and the V10's are well known to have lots of issues, ironically, the V8's in their RS4's and the like are the more reliable engines! There's nothing wrong with the V8 R8, just really poor mechanics who think they're qualified to work on them because it has 8 cylinders and must be just like the LS.
Also, I feel like you're missing the point, there's nothing inherently wrong with the engines, but Audi's as a whole, are not known for reliability. My family has owned many Audi's, they all fall apart when they hit 5 years old, the interiors literally disintegrate because they use some incredibly cheap quality plastics that harden and become brittle over time. We switched to BMW a few years back and haven't looked at another Audi since, my old E46 has a more solid interior than my uncle's 2016 A3, and one of the "Pros" about the A3 according to CarGurus is a "well built interior", we own one, that's not even slightly true lmao the trim pieces fall off, they're barely held on by plastic clips that easily break, the center console is fading, the gauge cluster stopped working for a while before we got it fixed, the seats feel lumpy and uncomfortable, the AC vents are sticky, the door pull handles cracked and fell apart, the door latches broke several times. We haven't even talked about just how many months that car has spent in service either, it had overheating issues, head gasket issues, cooling hoses breaking because they're made of cheap plastic. He hates that car with an unbridled passion, but he's stuck paying for it, but that car wasn't my family's first run in with Audi, we've had older Audi's before and this is not a new issue, this is how those cars have always been built, as cheaply as possible, my uncle still counts himself as lucky because he's yet to have the engine fail catastrophically like my other uncle and aunt had the displeasure of happening to them with their older Audis. We, like everyone else, kept buying them because they are very good looking cars, but they're the worst cars possible to own for any length of time outside the warranty period.
From what I've heard, no personal experience, but Mercedes seems to be of similarly poor quality RECENTLY, I've heard the older Mercs are tanks. From personal experience, BMW builds the best cars, but not recently as they too have started using lots of plastic in the engine bay with the only logical reasoning behind it being Planned Obsolescence, they want it to fail so you'll buy a new one, but even then, we still haven't had a negative experience with BMW aside from expensive service costs.

I was thinking of engines that'd have something "inherently wrong" and that's why I mentionted the R8 v8, with plenty spun bearings even without any performance mods. I'd say opinions like these are highy dependent on experience, and at my friends specialized BWM shop they'd absolutely disagree with your last paragraph. The number of V8 BMW SUVs with expensive mechanical issues is astonishing. The diesels are even worst. Just the other day an absolutely stock n55 m2 had to come in for bottom end issues. S55 are known for their problematic crank hubs.
Truth is most sports cars nowadays are far from reliable.
I own a 2018 RS3 though and have not seen any serious issues yet from my experience or from other fellow RS3 owners
I appreciate the honesty - Crap car makes good content. We watch the episode. You get paid for the ads. No BS about how much you love your viewers, or some existential reason for why you do this. It's fun and it pays.

It's a laughable waste of money. I bought an AWD S-Class for ⅓ the cost of that silly exhaust.
Buys a 15k dollar exhaust to fix a problem and fails, he says oh well.... 22K for an entire engine for his wife's car... Oh no... that would be horrible.
I think it's matter of resale value where, to buy an engine that costs half the amount he paid for the car vs buying a exhaust on a car that is a classic and fetch double figures

@@Adierit No they won't, the only reason they're going up right now is because of an inflated car market where every idiot influencer suddenly thinks they're a collector, this is the very definition of a flash in the pan. There's nothing particularly interesting or appealing about the Audi R8 beside it being a cheap supercar, and once it's no longer that, it's popularity, and value, will suddenly decline, especially because of how many Audi made, it's not exactly rare.
I am so glad Tyler buys all these cars that I personally have always wanted, I get to enjoy all the noises and visuals without all the $$$$ problems. You have changed my mind on wanting these cars, thanks for the entertainment!!

That detailer does an amazing job.
My guess about the history of that R8. Someone modded the hell out of it. It broke. They removed all the aftermarket parts and called it a day.

The R8 engine is made in Ungary at Győr factory
The noise is coming from the gearbox. There is a bearing issue. Put it in gear on a lift and you will hear the droning noise from it
What I said surprised at the wizard
The so called Wizard was slipshod at root causing the moan. Quite right...driver in the car...up on a 4 post lift, start the car and run it through the gears...clutch in an out for throw out bearing... listening underneath with an automotive stethoscope to the trans casing.

How many miles does that 330ci have?
Take it from an owner of an E46 330 Ci. She doesn't need a PPI. She needs a tool box.
Expect the valve cover gasket, oil filter housing o-ring, and the oil pan gasket to be leaking. Expect it to need a few thousand in suspension work.
Test the engine for good compression, make sure the transmission isn't too crunchy and that the driveline doesn't have a bunch of backlash, and if it passes those tests then she can do the rest.
The moment your daughter said "BMW" you should have said no, regardless of model :D
330i can be reliable, but it is a BMW, and it leaks and burns oil if not maintained well 😿

I have learned allot from Diagnosis Dan and one thing you can do is check to see which module is speaking the most. If that module is related to the mechanical related issue, then you are on the right path.

Years ago, I had a car that made that sound. It turned out to be a vacuum hose. It was leaking and partially collapsed, causing it to act like the neck of a balloon when stretched.

I started in new car sales at 19 at Ford Dealership in 1998 then on to Assistant Used Car Manager and back up Finance Manager at Dodge Chrysler Jeep store till 2001. I then got my decent break as a New Car Finance Manager at an Atlanta Ga Honda dealership at 23 years old. I did this for 4 more years (8 years for a NORMAL JOB LOL!) and then bam....out and started my own high end mobile detailing business! LOL.
So this episode was like my autobiography.

It's a shame about the R8. One of my friends got burnt on one a few years ago. Was told is had hail damage and needed a new battery and that it did run and drive. Got the car a week or so after later. Turned out to be a flood car and still had water/dirt in places. Engine had water in it. He sold it for less than half of what he paid for it. it actually recently went up for sale in NorCal with no engine in it and half the interior missing 💀
So, he tried to be a cheap-ass at an auction and it backfired. So weird how that happens

He wanted the welds to be made out of gold with saphire encrustation.
I caused an online "furor" in the M3 community a few years back when I proved that the 170$ eBay stainless steel aftermarket exhaust systems were EXACTLY the same as an "exotic " maker...one that charged 875$ for them. The "exotic " brand simply had their Logos laser etched on the tips...the "no name" didn't. But..put on a scale, ounce for ounce identical, same welds, same pope diameter, same plating.
As nice as that Capristo exhaust looks....I still prefer the 928 in the background!

Shame about the R8. I guess that’s a prime example of why people should always get a PPI unless the deal is good enough to offset any repairs needed.
When you are swimming in cash and buying luxury cars, i don't think its a risk for him. Makes the YT money regardless if it never runs and have to sell it for a loss.
Honestly buying the cheapest version of something is a 50/50 chance, it’s that cheap for a reason. Iirc hoovie got it at auction for like 40k or something when he could’ve spent like 10-15 more and gotten one that may have a funky title but at least it’s gonna work right. Getting it at auction is always going to be as-is there’s not gonna be a ppi other than what you may get done at the auction

As others have suggested, it is likely he goes into these things knowing they're broken to make click bait titled videos like these. He didn't get scammed, as that would allude that he did everything in his power to make sure the car was in the condition he expected/wanted. As you said, it is why people get PPI's. It makes even more sense when you go into high dollar deals like this, but he bought this car sight unseen and had it shipped, so that is his issue and no one else's. Yes it sucks, but playing the victim card is disingenuous and it seems he did not learn from buying the sight unseen Road Runner, so this is 100% his fault.

And again he bought this for a relatively dirt cheap price in relation to what it is, he just wasn’t expecting *this* level of problems. Bottom line is he should’ve bought a R8 from a dealership or reputable private seller saying as how it’s for his WIFE lol

Hey Tyler, my car moaned too. After a thorough diagnostic exam, it turned out to be a bearing on a drive pulley. I would ask wizard to check all the bearing on your pulleys.
Wizard is more interested in throwing parts at it and collecting labor rather than actually diagnosing it.

Either way if you keep the ml63 or sell it get rid of those black wheels, a nice set of OEM silver Wheels with that silver paint is going to make that car look way more modern and way better.
Those are OEM AMG wheels, probably worth half the car honestly
