Bream can be caught on baits and lures and what's best really depends on the mood of the bream on the day. The best way to know for sure is to cast out a bait and then, with another rod, lure fish while you wait for the bait rod to attract some bites; covering both bases at once.
Hi Tony, the 8' combo you mention is a versatile land-based outfit that can be used for beach and estuary fishing. If the beaches you fish have big surf then it might be worth investing in a longer set-up, such as a 10', 11' or even bigger. The latest Integra Gold combo range offers 10', 12' and 14' beach options. I hope that info helps. Good fishing!
I'm not familiar with that brand of rod so I can't say whether it's good for bream or not but the specs sound close enough to those of the benchmark bream surf rods, the Gary Howard Breambo, which are 10'6" in either 2-5kg or 3-6kg. As for the baits, the weight difference between the prawn and pilchards will have less impact on your rod's performance than your sinker weight; and if you're casting 30g over 150m then I think you can certainly use whatever bait you want.
The location was a beach about an hour north of Sydney. We try not to mention specific locations because the tips we provide should work at all similar locations and we like to encourage anglers to fish their local waters as much as possible, because that's the best way to learn about the area you fish most. Try these tips at your favourite beach and let us know how you go. Good fishing!
Hey mate iv got a 11 foot 6 starlo stix in the 3-6 kilo range i got it for tailor off the rocks would that be a good rod for this kind of fishing? Its rated for only 10-40 gram casting weights i can cast a 30 gram sinker like 150 meters with it can i still catch those bream using prawns or whitebait because i think a pillie would be to heavy for my rod

"No effort, no fish." I agree! I hope the miners stay away from your spot.
My brother caught a 50cm bream
LoL he baited it without any hooks to snare! he would have never caught a fish baiting the way he did.
