Hey all, I think it’s worth mentioning that the idea of the monster Dagon comes from a Lovecraft story of the same name, I didn’t bring it up in the video but thought it worth mentioning as a lot of this art is actually inspired by that story, not the Demon Lord!
@@KS-PNW It’s crazy how ideas can twist over time-from “father of gods” to “ancient demon lord”. Like how Ba’al went from a weather/fertility god to a name of satan to the god of murder.
I'm running a Ghost of Saltmarsh campaign and unknown to my players, Dagon's influence and the Yellow King's Influence are the main antagosnits of this story. It's a ancient battle from Elder Evils (Demons for Dagon) and the Heroes are mere pawns in the grand shceme of things.
I'm not sure what to think of that Shard of Evil lore as I was good with the Lovecraftian type elder gods being unknowble evils like Hader just out there in the Far Realms and Demons just being classic pure chaotic evil
Well that’s the unknown of it, people say Tharizdun created but maybe he just opened a way to it. Or maybe when Dagon was created the moment the abyss was. The whole allure of a Dagon like being is the Unknown

Dagon was an actual god in ancient Mesopotamia, Lovecraft just repurposed the name.

Actually, the term "ba'al" just means "lord"
Interesting lore video. I always love a bit of Lovecraftian horror in my DnD.

Tribe Dagon actually from the far realms after all he is like Cthulhu actually from h.p. lovecraft
I liked the pre-shard mystery a bit more.

If tharizdun used the shard to create the abyss, how does it already exist before he found it?

It's implied something existed it's just not super clear what it was before tharizdun changed it into the modern abyss.
Because the new canon is dumb
The strength of ancient immortal beings is that they can take their time with whatever plans they might have.

One of the first Obyriths to cross over intact? Or here before?
Im liking dagon more and more... prince of the darkened depths...
He's an Obyrith who resides in Demogorgon's layer. Even Demogorgon sometimes consults with Dagon for knowledge. My knowledge of lore stops at 3.5
