Fun fact: "Zastava" the factory that produced YUGO also made another car caled: 101 - "Stojadin", that actualy was the first produced hatcback, 3 years earlier than Golf Mk1... You can check the Wikepedia... Greetings...

That's a good result for driving so fast in that little Yugo. It was probably made to cruise at 50 mph.

I worked at a dealership that sold yugos. They had to keep several cars for parts on the back 40. They stopped selling them because they were awful.

Man, car is not runing properly. Try to find some mechanic from former Yugoslavia, he would be able to set it right. Change the thermostat, it is open thats why it takes long time to warm it up. Good luck with Yugo

Best MPG bet for a carbureted front drive stick shift vehicle if you ignore the outliers like Sprints and Fireflys and Festivas and the like would be a base Escort/Lynx with the 4 speed manual 84-88 or so. Those are hard to find of course. Tercel EZ hatch, 87-90, would be another.

You missed one really good thing about yugo..since it has no need for high power fuel you can easily transform him into hybrid..to go on gas like propan..for short routes it will save a lot a lot ..tesla just leveled that "Y" into "T" hehe

The Yugo shows lines that are almost identical to the Mark I VW Golf. Are they somehow related in design, or is it only a coincidence ? How does the Yugo had such a bad reputation in the reliability and safety department, while the Mark I Golf was considered a very good design ?

The Yugo wasn't that bad of a car. The owners just didn't take care of them like they should have. Trabant was far worse than the Yugo. If I had to choose between a Trabant or a Yugo, I would take the Yugo hands down.
