- I bought this 1973 Austin 1300 from eBay, it drove into the barn where it sits now 40 years ago and I want to see if it'll drive out. Wait till you see the car behind it that was left outside!

I love the way you give us the whole story in one shot instead of 5+ different videos with clickbait titles over a period of weeks. Thankyou.
I liked this while I was waiting for the first set of ads to finish, now I know it was worth the wait
I agree completely. I always love getting stuck in to the video for a couple of hours. 😊
I stopped at 17 minutes in - the outcome of this video was obvious (to me) the moment we saw the internal rust through the engine oil filler! At least other TH-camrs actually take on viable projects they know can be turned round in slow managed stages and film the progress. Not 2 hours of "Can I get it to Run" when the answer is no - it needs a rebuild quite clearly at 17 mins. I'm sure it's great entertainment for those in the comments who are casual observers of the classics world, while people who actually own or have owned these classics in recent times know what must be done. This needed to be a shorter more succinct video otherwise it drags it out unnecessarily.
@@usuallyfixingtinkering I stopped reading your comment after a couple of lines. When I clicked on read more and it just went on, I skimmed to the end as the majority seemed unnecessary.
@@Rich.Aardvark You mean truthful!
Pole Barn Garage and Tasty Classics are easily my favourite car channels.
And mine
@polebarngarage
Same😀
Call it a Day Ben ? ……….i think it should have been Called a day…. 30 years ago !! 😂 but nonetheless nice try and at least it might keep some other cars on the road……..keep up the good work
Gotta include Mad4Motors too!
Two hours of entertainment on a Friday night, and educational as well if you like tinkering with old cars definitely worth a tenner and cheaper than the cinema. Congratulations Ben, my favourite You Tube channel.
Out of pure Interest... when you say educational, what did you learn from this episode?
Pure gold Ben. Haven't enjoyed a " barn rescue" as much as this. You can't save them all...but you did as much as any mortal could.
The amount of effort you put into this one, is insane.
the 2 back and forth trips to Wales is probably 20 hours of driving, let alone the battle of reviving a car that died 40 years ago, plus filming and editing on top.
I'm getting dizzy just thinking about it. Your a machine.
It wasn`t free either (even if it ought to have been) , - all for our entertainment .In all fairness, I'm sure ben knew what he was getting into, even after one look at the E-Bay pics, you just knew that was what it was going to be like underneath and the engine was bound to be siezed solid ..
You did your best Ben, it was an achievement just getting it back to your workshop!
this is fast coming my favourite UK car channel we should be on at least 10 times the amount of subs by now
Very kind words!
It's official, you sir are now my favourite youtuber,I look more forward to your videos than anyone ,keep it going mate
Ben is by far the best UK car youtube channel I've seen
I fully agree you should have way more subs
I’ve always wondered why Bens not got more subscribers, he certainly deserves more
Love this little austin reminds me of my grandad always drove them I hope you do a full resto on this car she wants to live
Then one that's been uncovered from the shrubbery is a 1300 GT !! Only the GT had that beautiful steering wheel, not only that, if it is a genuine GT the engine block alone is worth a fortune as its the one that can bored the biggest and if I remember correctly it has an extra crankshaft journal but don't hold me to that, but that engine and head if the casting number is 12G940 is worth a fortune and is soon rare now, a rare engine builders dream 👌
Not a GT, I can clearly see the single carb air cleaner. Before it was moved. Just a big standard mk2 1300
It did have a 1300 GT steering wheel, which he ruined unnecessarily.
@@chrisennis2245 same wheel as MG 1300 and mini 1275 GT
An amazing video. I’m surprised you stuck at it for so long when it was clear that it wasn’t going to run. You made me laugh a few times during the filming. Your determination knows no bounds
I had one of these -my first car second hand on a J plate in1982, loved it! despite the rotten sills that my Dad welded and the suspension knuckle joints which needed the hydro suspension deflating to replace-good memories though.
40 years in the English countryside took their toll on this Austin...! But the condition of the interior was worth the effort !
My father used to have one of those, and I got into trouble because I played with the indicator stalk too much one day and broke it!. Lovely video
Hi Ben,in Canada those car were called austin AMERICA,Long time ago I did own a 1974 mini with a 1275 cc motor with two carburators, it was very fast.Thank you Ben and keep the good work.
What an amazing channel you've created. Your content is on point and has gotten me through many a night shift. You've connected with your viewers with the cars you've chosen to bring back to life, I love a modern classic. Well done ! Keep pumping them out, and I'm sure you'll have a long-standing successful career on TH-cam and further afield.
I had one of these (well Austin 1100) when I first started driving back in the late 80s. It was in really good condition back then. It drove like a dream with the hydro elastic suspension. I was an old car when I had it so it stood out back then. If only we would have kept and maintained some of the old cars I had over the years...
Funny but quite sad that someone's once pride and joy just pulled to pieces. Love the channel Ben keep it up.
I nearly shed a tear!
To be fair, to park it and dump it, not in a shed, it could have been someone's pain in the arse pile of crap
@@LordInter that's true.
Hey Ben, my gut feeling at the start of this video was it would be too far gone. They were notorious rust buckets anyway and with 40 years left in a damp barn we can see the result. Onwards and upwards!
Ben you are a star for trying soo hard with this one,Kev East Devon 👍👍👍👍👍
I really like this part of the journey, prying them out of their slumber rather than just seeing them on your driveway the minute the video starts. Thanks again for sharing your adventures 👍🏼👍🏼
Cheers from Melbourne Australia.
Ten out of ten Ben for perseverance, if you couldn’t make it happen nobody could. Top video. Loved it
Tasty Classics and Not Economically Viable are the best cartubers in the U.K. No fluff, no clickbait, just solid hours of entertainment, Give him a thumbs up.
M when you opened the boot, that plastic container on the left was exactly the same as ours which we used as out biscuit box ( digestives & rich tea ) back in 1983. Only ever opened when Corrie came on every Mon, Wed & Friday evenings
Fantastic video !, it takes alot of courage & brains & alot of effort to try and save these special cars...sometimes it is just too much, but the car is rich with spare parts that will save somemore austins ... a winner for all. well done !!
That was quite a tale from the valleys. You cannot win them all though, there is always another project round the corner.
You deserve far more subscribers. BEN
I had my first driving lessons with BSM in 1980 who were using Austins at the time , but I took my test in a mini metro, both such a simple car to drive.
Had me in stitches when the backend was way to the side of the car. I was thinking to myself, why not get the engine out and check the underside.. All those days wasted on trying that engine when the backend was the way it is..
Great video.. let’s see what you got with this one.
I think the intention was to just get it running. It was clear this one needed a major restoration, which Ben doesn't have time to do
My Dad had one, back in the seventies. They didn’t run well, even then. That was British Leyland for you,
Oh well you give it your best shot, most people would have given up well done,
I love you enthusiasm Ben I think you are brilliant 👍
26:27 To record you endoscope screen you need to dial the exposure down on the camera , the surroundings will be dark but the camera will focus on the screen .
Thanks
Incredibly kind that of you mate I still have the engine soaking I will do whatever I can to turn that baby over 😍
When they finished pulling the last part of that Austin out all that run through my head was "you cant park that there mate"🤣. Great content as usual.
Strip for parts? LOL. Great video, thanks
Ben, if I wanted to see a "Jonny Smith Barn Find", this would be the Car Perverts' channel. I come to you precisely for this sort of content.
First thing I thought when you opened the back doors was "check the interior for rodents, then check the engine bay for rodents...". 10 mins in and I am so hoping you get this old girl running.
What a beautiful place. Looking forward watching this through. Like others say, I like the way you edit these videos to be an hour or two.
Hope none of those were tick bites 😬
They cant all be gold. Your approach, demeanour and comedy is a pleasure to watch. Thankyou for providing this quality entertainment. #differentgravy
First company I worked for, the pool car was a Fred flintstone style Austin 1300GT, it even had the hole in the floor to put your legs down and run.
Ben what a brilliant video it's a shame you couldn't get it going but you gave it a bloody good go, hopefully it sells and is parted out to keep others on the road top work as always and looking forward to the next one 🍺👍🏻
Love this channel. Been hooked since last week! Keep the videos coming!! 🎉
Don’t put yourself down!your videos are great and very challenging which makes them very very very enjoyable to watch, keep em coming friend🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧🍺🍺
Sweet Jesus that car is absolutely done with life 😂 I hope you didn't lose to much money on this one
£561 according to ebay 😢
Love the channel dude, so many of the cars remind me of my childhood or my first few cars! Your down to earth commentary and antics are a bright spot amongst the click-bait of a lot of other car channels. Really enjoy watching your content while I'm working FIFO in Western Australia. Btw, do you drink coffee, or just tea?
You are a very brave man ! Good luck with that .👍🏻😎👍🏻
Fantastic vlog again......Tasy Classics is the best by far. Just love all your work and wished I had your endurance Ben. Thank you for all the fun, I just love watching what you do. Also, I think my Grandad may have been the first owner of this car? He used to live in Prestatyn, and had the same model, year, coIour and that rego number plate seems familiar to me too? Anyway, so looking forward to your next one mate.
A barn find episode with knobs on ! 👊
Good luck with restoration on this…. I am sure your dedication will shine !!!!
Well at least it’ll make a great donor for someone with a better shell. I do like the 11/1300s, maybe one day I’ll have to play with something that’s not a Triumph!
now that was worth watching sir. in the northwest of u s. well i have had a few like that. some day's are like that. thanks for the chuckle.
For 1973, that is not a bad looking vehicle.
I never heard such an undestatement in my life, it looks a bit crusty under here.
Yet another amazing video. Riveting. Much like opening a box of After Eight Mints at Christmas! Can’t stop at one. :-)
This ADO16 makes the Panhard look pristine…😮
You have a fabulous attitude really enjoy watching your videos 🧠💪💚 thanks brother 🤝🙋♂️ Nathan. ps you’re timing and Witt 😅is so funny brilliant 🎶 1973 not 83 😂🎉 sorry 😏.🙏
1973 car off the road since 1983 😉
@@deanosaur808 🤝💯
We loved this video! Just wondering if that smart car you were following was Hubnut on his recent adventure out road testing. Looking forward to the next chapter already.
Right that’s it! I have deduced that you are the most humorous cuckoo bananas bloke on YT who buys basket cases that any sane individual would run a mile from. Outstanding! Superb video as always.
🤣🤣 I'll never change!
Ben, not a good idea to leave the socket on the crankshaft bolt when you're trying to start her on the key!
Brave brave guy well done you done your best
Doors for lifting hay bails to store up top, keep it up have fun
Im only 20 minutes in, and this is awesome Ben! …Best channel on TH-cam without a doubt! 🙌🏻
Loved last night's video Ben it's a shame it's got to go but tbf as soon as I saw it I thought there's no chance that's gonna be repairable underneath but I kept on watching because I've seen some of the miracle work your capable of but this was just a step too far but still great. viewing viewing
I adore your optimism and courage and confidence 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🥵
I passed my test in one of those! same colour too!! in 1972!! the 1300 was quite a fast car back then, 🎉🎉❤😬...
Great channel
Use white vine vinegar for 24 to 48 hours the rust will disapear
It works great
Basil faulty thrashed one of them cars with a branch😂
Well, shows not everything can be saved or wants to run. Great video. Still highly entertaining.
Can't win them all.
Cheers for some Friday night takeaway TV. ❤
Kinell... respect for this.
The old Montgomeryshire EP. My dad had many many cars over the years all EP . His first a 1960 Austin mini. NEP smoke grey. Then Swansea changed things and he was no longer able to get EP so was not a happy bunny. That car mind you was not one of his!!😅😅
Passed my test in one of they! "K" reg. in Limeflower. Willing little car which was so easy to drive.
Such a shame you couldn’t get it running but still a hugely enjoyable video. Said this so many times but I’ll say it again, you should be into six figures by now. Why oh why don’t viewers subscribe!
Crikey 😮 you’ve got your hands full with that pile of rust. BTW I once owned an Austin 1800 same colour. The suspension needed topping up weekly. Lovely motor to drive though 👌
Great video as always Ben, you gave it your best 👌 👍
I’m sat here watching what the most entertaining class car channel on u tube and this episode is just the best ever tops the panhard “just”
Checking the brake pipes on all my cars now. Thanks for the safety info. Might have just saved my life (particularly considering how rusty some of my cars are) 😂
Seriously though great video. Too bad the Austin is so bad off.
Best Friday treat. Thanks again mate.
I really think this was the rare occasion when you should have applied all that heat to the combustible parts of the car and toasted marshmallows on the result. Great video though as always.
Try to put a mixture of ATF and Acetone in the cyl.. wait 3 or 4 days then the cylinders are free
a great try , all in one viewing , my parents owned six morris or austins , back in the seventies , all died of rust ! they were rusting badly in five or six years ! when they were good , they were great , the riley and 1300 gt were nearly mini cooper engines !
Quick one for anyone who remembers these, there were a few different versions if I remember, was there not a similar version that had the Wolsley badge? and as far as this particular motor, was it still Austin or had the destroyers of British Cars - BLMC sunk their fangs into them at this point? I remember my dad walking me to school and we would play "spot the car" and it must have been around that era that once motors branded as BMC began appearing as BLMC and the terrible Leyland began to appear. We used to have an old Austin van, it was on a B reg - I think 1965, probably an A35 - pop out indicators, crank handle starter.....
Don't know about a diamond but its definitely something in the rough in dire need of a road to run on. The second Austin you towed away with the jeep might just scrape through the M.O.T.
That's been sitting there longer than i've been alive.
Bet the MoT failure in 1983 would have been for that rear subframe starting to fall out. They were know for it (very sadly). Otherwise awesome cars and I’d love to drive one one day!
BTW why are most of the survivors the Princess version? Probably never driven and kept in garages?
I understand that you can look past years of dirt, some rust, flat tyres etc. But within 30seconds of seeing that, you could see it was well past bring back. Im surprised you even spent as long as you did on it. You are extremely good at what you, but that was clearly too far gone. Better luck with the next one.
That tree certainly did do its carbon capture 😂
Few good laughs in this one Ben ,Good stuff as usual .
The colour is Harvest Gold by the way.
Rust In Pieces little Austin.
Loved the video, Ben, what’s the story behind the owner having so many cars?
am sure I saw a wee light on dash as you said 'absolutely nothing' 😉 (LH clock at bottom? 33:58ish)
I remember these very well sad to see but very entertaining 😊
Kudos to you bro... yes time to call it a day 😢
Won’t heating the piston make it swell up and get tighter ?
Those vitamins are older than me. Unbelievable.
If you take them all, i think you might enjoy techno music for several hours.
I had the American version of this WOV 533J I had it for about 3 years
A little bit of knowledge is just a little bit of knowledge.
Thought it was David bellamy then 😂😊👍
Hi I am Nigel from Lincolnshire
Hope u get it running
