7:00 its probably supposed to be like adding ice to body, like when you make a snow ball and compact the snow together- its building its body back, restoring hp
Swarm has an out of battle effect in Gen 3, too: it increases the rate at which you'll hear wild pokemom cries while walking around the overworld of a route.
Cloud Nine and Air Lock don't get rid of weather, they stop the effects of them. So if it's raining, it's still gonna rain, but water moves won't get boosted until Golduck/Rayquaza are gone, and you can't re-up weather while they are on the field
here's the names I thought would be good for variations of overgrow/torrent/blaze etc Electric- Last Thunder(the last thunder of a thunderstorm) Psychic- Final Trick(Mind Tricks!!) Ice- Snow Of Years (probably references a Snowstorm that went on for years don't why Ice doesn't have already) Ghost- Undead/Endless (1. dying again after doing it the first time will probably count u as undead 2. a chain of dying endlessly) these are all lol
The Overgrow/Blaze/Torrent interestingly aren’t limited to the starters. They’re also on the most hated trip out there- the elemental monkeys. It’s really cool because it furthers the theory they were, at one point, planned to be starters but got scrapped.
you forgot about topsy-turvy being the best version of abilities like defiant because it not only is effected by moves that change/ lower your stats but it also does it when you use a move that effects your stats which can be great at negating negative effects of some really good moves
Right, but that's a move. So that's a totally different category; I mean there's plenty of moves that lower Attack but that doesn't mean the move Growl is the same as the ability Intimidate...
I dunno if anyone mentioned this but in gen 7 Gale Wings was nerfed to be priority to flying moves while at full health which means Talonflame could no longer priority heal with Roost
While several legendary abilities are similar to regular ones, there are some specific interactions. For example, mold breaker bypasses clear body and white smoke, but not full metal body.
You forgot about galarian darmanitans abilities zen mode you covered but instead of changing type to boost defence it changes type to become fire same ability 2 different functions and type change and its golira tactics ability which powers up moves but leaves you stuck using one move similar to hold items
Cloud Nine/Air Lock doesn't remove the weather, only the effects of weather. This can be seen in Sun/Moon because the abilities confuse the AI, which will try to set up weather that is already up because its effect is being negated by Cloud Nine.
You missed cursed body when talking about on contact trigger statuses and sand force when talking about weather conditional abilities. Arguably shed skin was also missed when you mentioned natural cure.
2:58 NOPE. WRONG. Greninja can become any type...except for Fairy, since it doesn't learn any Fairy-type moves, and Hidden Power (RIP, Hidden Power) cannot be Fairy.
So, we know what immunities and resistances are for a pokemon which is every type, so I now have a question: What moves, if any, could defeat a pokemon that has every ability? Aside from wonder guard and maybe a few others I dont know about, you'd be hard pressed to find a weakness on a pokemon with every ability, regardless of it's type, if it even has a type to begin with since I know it's possible for a pokemon to become typeless. Who knows? Might make for an interesting video topic 😀
Yeah, that's a lot of things to consider... Wonder Guard would for sure play a big role, I'm inclined to say there'd be at least a couple of moves that could work, but I'm not sure.
Technically, Normalize and the other similar Abilities boost the power moves not already of that specific type by a total of 80% (1.2 x 1.5 = 1.8) when you consider that they'll almost always get a free STAB boost as well. By the way, their Normalize Ability is probably the only reason Skitty and Delcatty weren't retconned as Fairy types, although I don't know why they couldn't have been made Normal/Fairy like the Igglybuff family.
Why not imaginating some tweaks to differ some of them? Also Solid Rock should reduce by 50%, but not Filter and Prism Armor since those two have a Mega evolution and a Legendary.
@@emperorcubone you put reckless and tinted lens in the same category because "they boost moves in some way" despite being functionally and mechanically entirely different. By that logic "abilities that remove status" is more than an adequate grouping criteria

Got tired of typing? Yeah, I underestimated how many there were too...
I think how icy body worka is that it lets the ice type rehydrate and repair it's ice from the cold wet hail.
My favourite duplicated ability: Cacophony. Yes, the never-implemented duplicate of Soundproof, found only in the unused code of Gen 3.
The Overgrow/Blaze/Torrent interestingly aren’t limited to the starters. They’re also on the most hated trip out there- the elemental monkeys. It’s really cool because it furthers the theory they were, at one point, planned to be starters but got scrapped.
Actually, Overgrow, Blaze, and Torrent are also the abilities of Simisage, Simisear, and Simipour, respectively, as a hidden ability
0:50 teachers be like - “solve for snivy”
I never thought of this HOW UNIQUE
Imagine how OP aroma veil would be in doubles if it stopped choice band, scarf, specs & assault vest move restrictions. That would be busted.
you forgot about topsy-turvy being the best version of abilities like defiant because it not only is effected by moves that change/ lower your stats but it also does it when you use a move that effects your stats which can be great at negating negative effects of some really good moves
Right, but that's a move. So that's a totally different category; I mean there's plenty of moves that lower Attack but that doesn't mean the move Growl is the same as the ability Intimidate...
I really love cute charm it's just like the move attract.
In the fan rom hack I'm planning, I turned Overgrow, Blaze, Torrent and Swarm into abilities similar to Pixelate and Galvanize
I dunno if anyone mentioned this but in gen 7 Gale Wings was nerfed to be priority to flying moves while at full health which means Talonflame could no longer priority heal with Roost
I didn't even know about a lot of those encounter stuff
While several legendary abilities are similar to regular ones, there are some specific interactions. For example, mold breaker bypasses clear body and white smoke, but not full metal body.
You forgot about galarian darmanitans abilities zen mode you covered but instead of changing type to boost defence it changes type to become fire same ability 2 different functions and type change and its golira tactics ability which powers up moves but leaves you stuck using one move similar to hold items
2:55
Also kekleon gets it
Can’t believe they gave two starters the exact same extremely annoying ability
Right? But now a Grass type one has to get it too...
@@emperorcubone the gen 10 grass starter gonna be Uber tier I’m calling it
18:00 Neutralizing gas also does the same thing
Found in weezing line and variants
but it removes literally EVERY ability
Cloud Nine/Air Lock doesn't remove the weather, only the effects of weather. This can be seen in Sun/Moon because the abilities confuse the AI, which will try to set up weather that is already up because its effect is being negated by Cloud Nine.
RKS
Arceus
Holy crap
10:26 i think its only until 90 power since technician is ×1.5 of moves with 60 or less power
Yeah I was thinking that as well. Maybe he was talking about dual wingbeat because he showed a picture of Scyther?
maybe
Triple axel
Hit one 20--> 30 BP
Hit two 40--> 60 BP
Hit three 80 BP
total 170 BP
You missed cursed body when talking about on contact trigger statuses and sand force when talking about weather conditional abilities. Arguably shed skin was also missed when you mentioned natural cure.
5:22 fun fact aura break actually makes fairy aura and dark aura weaken dark/fairy type moves
2:58 NOPE. WRONG.
Greninja can become any type...except for Fairy, since it doesn't learn any Fairy-type moves, and Hidden Power (RIP, Hidden Power) cannot be Fairy.
Sure, but that's not the ability's fault. It COULD be any type if not for the short comings of the Pokemon...
Those all come in handy!
they should give all of the pudgy cross-gens from sinnoh a thick fat & guts combo
It be nice if some of these were condensed
honey gather *is* quite nice when your'e shiny hunting horde encounters, but I see your point
Dry Skin is also comparable to Fluffy for the added Fire Weakness.
Almost Any Ability
Balanced Hackmons
Randomizers
Getting a Swampert with Sap Sipper is amazing
You have no weaknesses
10:24 nope, it only increases them by 1.5, making them up to 90 bp
Technician only boost moves with 60 BP or less by 50%. So 60 BP moves become 90 BP
Can you do a video that explains all the abilities that effect wild encounters? I don’t think anyone has done that before
I'm surprised that 'shed skin' wasn't mentioned when talking about ridding status conditions
Well mechanically it is unique in that there's merely a chance to rid it, instead of a guarantee, or outright prevention...
@@emperorcubone you put reckless and tinted lens in the same category because "they boost moves in some way" despite being functionally and mechanically entirely different. By that logic "abilities that remove status" is more than an adequate grouping criteria
I’m also curious as to why they didn’t make Swarm-like abilities for the other types.
Yeah, that was my thought. I mean it's only at low health so it's not OP...
the thumbnail reminded me of SilverLeagueNetworks...
