Mareep not being available in Pokemon Crystal is to this day one of the most baffling choices when it comes to version exclusives. It's one of Johto's best Pokemon.
It’s also one of the very few electric types that isn’t too late in game to use. Couldn’t they have made something like Dunsparce or Qwilfish version exclusive instead
@@emperorcubone Sometimes Nothing works as what you excpect. Like what if every pokemon were to fight all in once just like they did in alolan anime once?
@@harold5337 Also, from my own experience, Jolteon barely learns like ANY electric type moves in Crystal. I have a Jolteon on my Crystal team and it knows exactly 0 electric type moves. It isn't at that level yet and I evolved it too late to learn one of the electic moves. Like why does this ELECTRIC type Eevee only learn two electric type moves naturally? Wth Gamefreak??
The thing i dont like about having to choose between Drampa and Turtonator is that they are in very different parts of the game, so I feel like you miss out on more since you are left with an uncomplete area, instead of the same area having one or the other
Yeah, I feel like that's the first time they'd done that in a while. Gold and Silver were absolutely filled with version exclusives in different places, like Mantine/Skarmory and Delibird...I don't even remember who Delibird's counterpart was. I looked it up, it's Gligar. Gligar wasn't even that great until it got an evolution, but that's still arguably the most imbalanced pair of version exclusives. I guess Red and Blue did have one pair of version exclusives in different locations, but they were accessible at the same time: Electabuzz and Magmar, both in locations that you gained access to after picking up HM03 and beating Koga (Power Plant and Cinnabar Island respectively). It is interesting how they handled the encounter tables for those mismatched version exclusives, though. For example, in Blue version, you can just straight-up catch a fully evolved Raichu in the Power Plant which you can't do in Red and that takes up the whole of Electabuzz's rarity. In Cinnabar Mansion, however, Magmar is a 10% encounter on the top floor and a 4% encounter in the basement in Blue Version, and in the former location, Ponyta is a 24% encounter in Red to 14% in Blue, while in the latter, Weezing is a 14% encounter in Red while Muk is only a 10% in Blue (yes, the Grimer and Koffing lines are non-exclusive version counterparts, with the Koffing line being common and the Grimer line rare in Red while the Grimer line is common and the Koffing line rare in Blue).
Yeah, and Drampa is in a post game area, so even if you have it’s version, *you still can’t use him without trading!* Well, for the main story at least
To rub more Nacli into the wound in regards to the Glameow line is that it's only natively/normally available -(Without trading, events or transferring etc.) in three mainline games: Pearl, Shining Pearl and Legends Arceus. Whilst the Stunky line is in: Diamond, Brilliant Diamond, Legends Arceus, Sword + Shield and Scarlet. Heck, they even changed the Stunky line's counterparts to the Gulpin line in gen 9.
@@emperorcubone Not as bad as Blitzle only being on Route 4 of BW1, and then never being available without breeding Zebstrika in future games (including BW2)
Tauros Blaze Form, Tauros Aqua Form, Tauros Forest Form But... what they should have done Tauros Blaze Form Tauros Torrent Form Tauros Overgrow Form There... you can even give them those abilities.
I can't help but feel a little bad for Glameow and Purugly, since they're the oldest Pokemon that haven't been in a regional Dex since their introduction (apart from starters, Legendaries, and Mythicals) while Stunky and Skuntank got into 3 others, and were paired up with Gulpin and Swalot as exclusives in Paldea.
This is what I'm saying; what do you expect when one is the ONLY skunk Pokemon in existence, and the other is a boring Normal cat that has to take back seat to the other region's cats?
Plus, even IN their introduction, Glameow and Purugly were rare, as they were only in one game and came quite late in the adventure. With all the love to Meowth, why not give some to Skitty or Glameow
I love how Paldea did version exclusives. Non of the new pokemon are exclusives up until post game (paradox), so you can discover most of the new mons by yourself (which is the most fun). They also added Tauros forms as a non compulsary rare additional exclusive mon
Doesn’t Tauros+Miltank= 50% Tauros/50% Miltank if you breed them. I know that you can breed them so I guess what I’m asking is can Miltank hatch a Tauros if bred with one? Or will it always be a Miltank since she’s the female even though she bred with a Tauros?
Question for you all: Do you think we should get some type of Murkrow Paradox form so that we can keep up the linking between it and the Misdreavus line because it got Flutter Mane?
Armorouge and Ceruledge are definitely the most “balanced” version exclusive Pokemon. Typing, preference, and difference in the popularity between the two aside, you really don’t feel like you are missing out if you plan to use either of them in the game. Both have really great signature moves and have really cool designs. I also wholeheartedly agree with the Unova psychic duo being one of the worst. It’s pretty obvious which of the two people favors more and Renuiclus even has far superior abilities. Anyway, nice video Emperor Cubone.
It is so refreshing to have such a seemingly balanced pair after Gen 8 had such weird exclusives; it kinda makes me wish they did a few more in Paldea...
Not really. Those who battle competitively prefer Reunicles, while those picking based on their looks prefer Gothitelle (even if it is just a discount Gardevoir).
Just a quick correction about misdreavus in gen 2. It actually was a version exclusive to pokemon gold (GBC) and its counterpart in silver (GBC) was sneasel. Sneasel also received a new evolution in gen 4, but the method of evolution was different from misdreavus; severing the former bond they had.
Woa, plus Sneasel got a regional form (Hisuian Sneasel) AND a brand new evolution for that regional form. (Sneasler) Next I bet we hear about the new Sneasel Paradox forms called Iron Claws and Savage Hands or something. lol
i know im 3 months late but thats simply not true, sneasel and misdreavus are both available in gold AND silver, those two have never been countrrparts
Funny how they separated Reuniclus and Gothitelle now. The latter is in Paldea while Reu isn't. I think GF thinks of Gothitelle now as a 3 stage waifu we seem to be constantly getting. Like how the only middle stages added to Pokemon Cafe Mix for a while were Kirlia, Gothorita, Hattrem and Steene
i hate waifu mon sosososososo much and i just want reuniclus 😢 i think the gothitelle line is conceptually sick but a lot of waifu mon are conceptually sick and then look awful (this applies to a lot of pokemon in general too thinking about it) anyway i am #1 tsareena hater
gothitelle is great. cool design and stellar inspirations (lolita + cosmic being). but regardless, the reuniclus line aren't even in scarlet and violet so clearly the pair can be seperated.
Speaking as someone who picked Sprigatito, Armorouge is a fantastic addition to my team. I love the animation of his arm cannons as he uses his signature move
My favorite version exclusives are definitely Sirfetch’d, Armorouge and Ceruledge. They’re my top 3 favorite Pokémon, and all of them have awesome designs, and were also pretty strong members of my Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Scarlet team Also, off topic a bit, but I managed to complete the Pokédex in Pokémon Scarlet. It was my first time completing the Pokédex in a Pokémon game 😄
Wow, those are all very new to be favorites, but I'm glad you like them so much! Nice, my first completed Dex was in Y version; I played that game so much!
@@emperorcubone See I'm there complete opposite; I _last_ completed the Pokédex in Silver. Came so dang close in Shield but I had no one to trade with so I'm short one version-exclusive line, one starter line, Zacian, and one trade evolution that I've been unable to pull out of a raid den.
That would be one of the best ways to utilize raids if you ask me! Quit giving me so many Starly; I passed like 100 on the way to the first gym alone...
@@emperorcubone fair enough they want more money with two versions but it the least they could do. I remember having fun with legends because how convenient the dex is. Also I was disappointed that the charchadet had forms for each version but happy I could get ceruledge in the raids.
6:16 Competitive players: "Are we joke to you?" And in Competitive scene, they has different playstyles, so they're not the same. Also, Gothitelle got into S/V WITHOUT Reuniclus, and also can be obtained in both versions. Edit: As Gothitelle fan, this a big win for me.
Yes, always and forever, competitive is a joke to me; call me the king of casuals... As for Gen 9, I'll give you one guess which blobby Psychic cell will be showing up in the DLC...
The real problem with turtonator and fampa is that nator is available very early and can be helpful for those who didn't chose litten, but drampa con only be found at the freaking , you know, the place you go to when you already have a full team of 6 and your are not taking applications anymore
That's the same case with Glameow; you're going to have a decent team by Canalave City, and probably 3-4 solid alternates, so there's no reason to add a Normal cat right near the Steel type gym...
I low-key like Volbeat and Illumise. They're definitely aweful, but you mentioned in another video that they're a *Lightning* bug and *Fire* fly matchup, so I feel like they could have been great options for regional forms with those typings added. And maybe a small BST boost with it 🤷🏻♂️ You can never go wrong with more fire and electric types that aren't starters, sub par or pikachu clones imo ❤
@@emperorcubone It's certainly not at the top of my list of "obviously this will be in the DLC". That honor of course goes to Paldean Miltank. Despite debuting in different generations, Tauros and Miltank have been set up as counterparts up to putting them on the same Pokédex page in the Alola games. With Tauros getting three new forms, I'd be stunned if the same didn't happen for Miltank. I'm assuming the base one will be Fairy, possibly Psychic, with one of the rare version-exclusive forms being Fairy/Psychic (as if we don't already have enough of those...seriously, how did a type that only debuted in Gen 6 already have an overused type pairing by Gen 8?) and the other having Grass as its secondary typing. The reason? Because Normal is out because it's regular Miltank's type, Water is out because of Aqua Breed Tauros, and I don't think any of the other types has more than one healing move. Because let's face it, to properly contrast Tauros, Paldean Miltank is going to be full cleric. It wouldn't even surprise me if they gave it the Triage ability currently exclusive to Comfey.
I honestly really like Solosis and Gothorita They're both cute, their evolutions are pretty different, and they don't fulfill the same role in battle Ntm that they don't ALWAYS include the other Pokemon's counterpart when adding pokemon to the regional dexes.
12:44 you better not be serious. having a branched evolution for each version was a great idea and the fact there is an offensive branch which is in sword and a defencive branch in shield made it better
i too chose the best starter Fuecoco but when i played Scarlet i wasn't dissapointed by Armarouge only issue from me is homeboy learns his signature move like 20 levels after Ceruledge does
Turtonator is unironically WAY better than Drampa , Turtonator is catcheable in the third island , while Drampa isn't avaible until literally Mt.Lanakila a.k.a the VICTORY ROAD , meaning that you're wrong when you said that the two are the only dragon rep until the very last of the game as Kommo-o is obtainable before Drampa
Just to let you know Stunky isn't a bad Pokemon at all when it evolves into Skuntank at level 34 it learns Flamethrower straight away so you won't need a Fire type in Sinnoh and Skuntank is actually really good. I used a Male Purugly on my original Pearl team in 2007 I caught it as a Glameow on Route 222 and I kept it on the team and used it against Cynthia I really like Purugly it gets so much negativity but it can be a great Pokemon if trained correctly. Volbeat & Illumise are in both Ruby & Sapphire but there is something you missed Illumise is more common in Ruby and Volbeat is more common in Sapphire and the same encounter rates apply to Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire.
If anything, it’s praising Stunky for how better the region handles it, being a new origin for a Pokémon and a new type combination, being found right after badge 2, as opposed to poor Glameow who is hidden away until the sixth badge, and is a Pokémon origin and type we have seen before. Not dismissing Glameow, it’s a cute cat, but it should have been paired with something else, or pair Stunky with Scorupi.
I think an Honorable mention goes to Black City and White Forest . White Forest Literally has alot of good pokemon you can catch like the Ralts. Aron. Trapinch, Bagon line. While Black City let's you battle the full evolved version of those mons but not catch them legitimate and since gts is down you can't even request one for trade. I mean it' not a pokemon but a location that prevents you getting 32 more pokemon
"This is an automatic 6 pokemon stricken from the roster when the abra line could have done well enough" Me who likes all 9 of those pokemon seeing Scarlet and Violet using none of the aforementioned 9 psychic types: "Reality is often disappointing"
Fun fact: It took until Ruby & Sapphire, a Generation 3 title, for Sandshrew and Sandslash to not be version exclusives in a two-version Pokémon title.
They're not proper version exclusives, but I've always disliked how in Sword, they made Pikachu more common than Eevee, while doing the opposite for Shield. Not only does Eevee have eight evolutions compared to Pikachu's one, meaning you need to catch more for dex completion, but Eevee also has a lower odds of being Female, so you can't even rely on breeding to help, unless you get a Ditto.
I hard disagree with Reuniclus and Gothitelle and less so for Tyranitar and Aggron. Starting with Tyranitar and Aggron, I think the pair is fine and both are very strong and both mons you might choose a game over... but one is a psuedo legendary while the other is a strong but still regular pokemon. I'll give them this if any pokemon can manage being a pseudo and non pseudo version exclusive it's those two since they share a lot of overlap in inspiration and both got a mega... but the thing is I don't think pseudo legendaries should really be split with non pseudos since pseudolegendaries are so uniquely cool and powerful that even as someone who quite enjoys aron for being a little metal guy I still regret picking pokemon X just because I lost an entire psuedo legendary and especially one that can enable team styles like Tyranitar and its sand stream. Had ORAS not been in the works at the time I would say Metagross and Larvitat would've worked but I think something like Garchomp and Larvitar would've done just fine as well and just moving Aron to Gible's spot in route 13 would both make sense and help balance out the game by not overflowing you with pseudos and strong dragon types really early on For Gothitelle and Reuniclus I don't think either of them are wastes of space since we're not comparing them to past gen mons because gen 5's gimmick was not having any past gen mons so just saying "use Alakazam instead" misses the point both in their usage in gen 5 and later because part of the point of including them is to make each region feel unique and vibrant instead of just having the same gen 1 pokemon over and over each time. I think in terms of adding diversity to the pokedex they do an amazing job both having very unique designs that stand out amongst the other psychic types especially in their generation. I will say Reuniclus does have the better argument for it since it makes much better usage of its stats but Gothitelle is no slouch either being a more balanced spread to fit well in a variety of roles especially with its very rare shadow tag ability. I feel like shadow tag alone makes Gothitelle a valuable inclusion and a decision worth pondering, even if it's less useful in playthroughs it is still an amazing trait to have that sets it apart from other psychic types much like Reuniclus's amazing magic guard and regenerator abilities. I feel like both make amazing use of the 3 stages as well since they show a very fluid transition between the starting form and end with both having a very unique feel despite simultaneously being very well connected that I feel has actually been missed in gen 9 with a lot of two stage lines not really providing the stages to show how the prevo becomes the fully evolved mon. Looking at you Espathra. In short I think Gothitelle and Reuniclus have enough differences between the two to make it a real choice while also still filling the same role on a team so you don't miss out on a strong bulky Psychic type no matter which one you pick. As for my favorite version exclusive... well I have admittedly shown my bias already towards gen 5 but I really like Whimsicott and Liligant since they have the same status as similar enough to fill a role on a team but with enough unique differences and tools to set them apart despite that, prankster for Whimsicott and quiver dance for Liligant. Adding the fairy type to Whimsicott did hurt the balance but Hisuan Lilligant more than makes up for it leading to both being among my favorite pokemon of all time. I also really like Iron Valiant and Roaring Moon and to a slightly lesser extent the rest of the paradox mons, the sheer power of all of them and just the designs alone of the two strongest paradox pokemon(past the legendaries) is just amazing to me My least favorite version exclusive is the clothing in sv because it almost singlehandedly makes me not want to play scarlet because I do not like the orange. Really gamefreak why can't there be customizable outfits like the literal game prior.
ceruledge is the reason i chose violet version. scarlet may have cooler paradox pokemon but ceruledge design is fire. i even like its shiny. it is now tied with charizard as my favorite pokemon.
Eiscue is a really fun design. Same thing w/ Stonjourner. I really don't share all those grievances, if any of them. Eiscue + a Hail summoner is so much fun to use, since Ice Face always tanks a physical attack and refreshes if Eiscue is sent out on Hail. Its speed guarantees that it'll get an attack off 90% of the time, and the offensive move pool is pretty decent, too. Eiscue's biggest flaw is getting it so late in the campaign, because otherwise it would've been fantastic, imo. Shield also tends to make its exclusives rarer to get (Galarian Ponyta, Galarian Corsola is only found in overcast weather, Eiscue is a 1%).
Really that's a flaw of most Ice types; I just wish we could get an early route Ice area with decent Pokemon, (not like Alola that gave us Delibird and Smoochum...)
To be fair, Stonjournor is also 1%. I sought the thing in Sword and never caught one. I doubt it would've used it anyway, it doesn't seem that impressive. I'd rather have the goofy ice penguin.
The Reuniclus vs Gothitelle part is not very accurate. Gothitelle is actually not bad in competitive even being very good in gen 9. Speaking of gen 9, they split her and Reuniclus so there goes that part of your argument too.
But... Gothitelle is in SV, but Reuniclus not. So yes, you can do one, without the other. And despite being 2 Psychic types, those 2 have different playstyles.
@@emperorcubone Yeah, but, disregarding the legendaries, all other pokémon that are versions exclusive in the DLCs are Pokémon that first appeared in the DLC (such as Pinsir / Heracross or Sawk / Throh) it did not, for example, have Pinsir in the base game and Heracross introduced later. They might even do that in the DLC, but it would make more sense for either the two lines to already be in the base game, or to be introduced in the DLC.
Going to throw in some ideas I had for possible version exclusive counterparts * Tyranitar and Metagross - Non Dragon type Pseudo-Legendaries * Togepi and Happiny - Baby Pokemon whose final forms have a BST above 530 * Lucario and Zoroark - Both are canine based Pokemon who starred in movies released before their debut generation. * Talonflame and Corviknight - Early route birds who lack the normal typing (Or lose it in the case of Fletchling) * Inkay and Clobbopus - Cephalapod Pokemon who lack the Water typing * Lickitung and Tangela - Kanto Pokemon who got evolutions in Sinnoh which are obtained via learning a move * Poliwag and Oddish - Kanto Pokemon who are part of a Three Stage line who have two options when evolving a second time. * Salandit and Combee - Males are rather useless * Donphan and Copperajah - 🐘 * Amoonguss and Breloom - 🍄 🍄🟫 * Litwick and Honedge - Dual types three stage ghost lines who evolve with the Dusk Stone * Toxicroak and Bellibolt - Frog Pokemon who lack the Water type
Ah.. Ceruledge and Armoruge. The "megaman" Pokemon that most of the community hated on and memed. Only for them to wind up using them in the end to sweep teams.
I don't think "most" people hated them, just a few randoms on the internet, also pointing out design similarities to something else isn't hate, you can poke fun and still think something is cool...
To be honest the Scarlet and Violet paradox forms pissed me off a bit. In Scarlet there are 3 of them that are not even based on fully evolved forms, while Violet gets two that is based on pseudo legendary pokemon AND the combination of Gardevoir and Gallade. It does makes sence in the lore, but it's still feels unfair.
True, but if it makes you feel any better, I got Violet and I'm jealous at the variety the Past forms got, because literally all the future ones are just robot versions of Pokemon. One or two would be fine, but this makes them all feel less special...
I think Aron x Larvitar is one of the worst version exclusives since Tyranitar is way stronger than Aggron and that make stuff unbalanced. And I dont think the psychic trios of Unova are fated to be put together in every game since we have examples of previous exclusive pokemon appearing in regional dex without its counterpart, like Arcanine and Braviary in SV.
Well like I said, they specifically buffed Aggron's Mega to have lessened weaknesses, and also be tied for the highest Defense in the game, so I feel like they did a decent job at bringing it up to par.
I don't mind the existence of two different versions of the Pokémon games but I do feel they need greater justification for two versions existing. Ruby and Sapphire with it's differing teams as well as Black and White with it's differing philosophy (and town + Gym Leader) were the only times I felt they justified the two different versions. 1:56 - The complaint about the Turtonator and Drampa pair went in a different direction than I was expecting though it is one my younger brother would agree with you. He did not have a fun time using Turtonator. As for myself, well I had to scrap my plans to use a Drampa when I found out it could only be caught right before the end of the game. 5:21 - I forgot that Aggron got the Mega Evolution all the way back in X and Y; here I was thinking it didn't get it until Alpha/Omega. I do love how Aggron's Mega Evolution turns it into a Pure Steel as the type change-up worked well for a surprise defensive play. 8:02 - Ruby and Sapphire really wanted to promote that Double Battle theme but I don't see the appeal of using a mono-type tag team. It has it's advantages of course but it seems less interesting. I always felt that they should have been combined with Plusle and Minun; keep one mouse, keep one bug, and have the two be the plus-and-minus tag-team that can boost the other as cheerleaders. Likewise in the Lunatone and Solrock case, I feel Lunatone would have made more sense as Rock/Dark... though I suppose that would mess up the Tate & Liza Psychic Gym thing. 11:03 - This route difference is what I was expecting you to complain about with Drampa, who suffers this to an even worse degree. Really, these version exclusive pairs should be placed in the same place where it made sense, which it would for both Glameow and Stunky being underneath the bike path. 11:55 - Oh yeah, Mawile was the first pure Steel. Both Mawile and Sableye are really cool Pokémon, an while I believe there were issues with their introduction (pure Steel Mawile introduced by a Fighting gym and with only special attack dark moves at her disposal) they later corrected that with the Attack/Special split and Fairy typing. One of the coolest and type distinct pairs about. 12:58 - A stonehenge Pokémon being very exclusive was a baffling decision, particularly when paired with an unrelated penguin. I'm surprised Stonjourner wasn't part Psychic, Fairy or even Ghost given it's origins. A Pokémon that would have been neat to use but whom I didn't because it was far too late game.
I get that Sirfetch'd and Cursola are new evolutions of previous Pokémon but I’ve always seen Sirfetch'd version exclusive being Galarian Ponyta. Not only were they revealed around the same time but in similar ways with both being treated as “special events” of sorts that fans saw as either overwhelming or underwhelming. Sirfetch'd had the weird “glitched website” reveal and Galarian Ponyta had the infamous 24 hour livestream
@@emperorcubone I do a lot of mono Bug runs and they are literally the only ones I always skip. If Volbeat was Bug/Electric and Illumise was Bug/Psychic or something, I would use them. But I still wouldn't care about them.
Eiscue with belly drum sitrus berry into a physical attacker is awesome being able to guarantee set up and if they hit you they just make you faster is a fun way to sweep!
I'm not understanding the connection between a penguin and Stonehedge but hey maybe there's some world history I'm missing out on. If its just being single stage monotypes with the same BST and that's it that's kinda weak. Even others that did this like Seviper/Zangoose had lore behind them.
I have a DS lite, a 2ds, a copy of pokemon platinum that I want to complete the pokedex, a copy of soul silver and a copy of pokemon saphire... The fact that I can technically complete the pokedex all the way through but need a copy of Diamond AND Pearl to get Stunky and Glameow is every disencouraging
In terms of abilities and stats spread, Reuniclus and Gothitelle are completely different. Yes, they do have similarities, but there’s enough to argue for them to be different enough in a playthrough
@@emperorcubone They definitely could’ve been 2-stage lines. Gothitelle has objectively the best competitive ability out of both of them with shadow tag, but since it’s a hidden ability and shadow tag isn’t as relevant in playthrough, Reuniclus has the better abilities in a playthrough
Not sure if this counts as a debunk to your argument, but the new tauros forms were the *sole reason* that made me decide on the version I wanted, every other version exclusive aspect I'd be fine without, But since I wanted to pick fuecoco first, I decided I wanted violet first due to the water tauros, and then once I get I get scarlet (sidenote, I feel like it should have been named rose, because of the whole "roses are red, Violets are blue" line), I probably will pick sprigatito to get the fire Tauros, (I intend to use Quaxly with a scovillian in either version), besides, you probably can't deny they're a more worthy pair of version exclusives then flipping Basculin.
I find the most annoying thing about version exclusives is that the non-legendary exclusive you want is in the same game that the mascot Legendary Pokémon you dislike most of the pair revolves around. That, or you are unable to get because your sibling already has the title it is exclusive to of the pair of games.
Hm, how very interesting, personally I don’t know which exclusives i like more, haven’t really given it much thought, but I do like the Gothitelle-Line and I don’t mind their counterparts, so maybe them?
Your point about gothitelle is invalidate considering that line is in scarlet and violet and not reuniclus…. It is weird you didn’t mention that Also, I like stonjourner and eiscue way more than the charcadet evolutions, which is frustrating because I may be the only one
I really liked a lot of Gen. 1's version exclusives. Especially once Jynx is factored in as a JP Blue exclusive (or something like that). They just all seemed to make sense as exclusives and there were some notable parallels like Oddish and Bellsprout or Scyther and Pinsir. Of course, Gens. 2 and 4 messed these pairings up quite a bit with unequal evolutions.
I understand the "need" for exclusives. I just rather not have to trade to get what I want when revisiting older games down the line. Same goes for trade evolutions. There is always Rom Hacks I guess.
Yeah, no; I was saying that ever since Gen 3 you couldn't "catch 'em all" and then only trade for the missing ones, you also needed FRLG, and it's been spread out like that ever since, versus the Exclusives being the only outside prize for you to get...
Hmm, interesting; I always considered Ponyta a counterpart to Galarian Darmanitan, maybe just because they both go from a single type to two, and it can gain the Fire typing the horses lost.
I'd have to look at the Galar Pokédex. Version exclusives are _usually_ right next to each other in the Pokédex (though not always; Gen 1 almost always separated them.)
The fire knights being Burning Bionicle’s that’s a first they’re mainly compared to MegaMan since they were designed by a MegaMan designer, personally reminds me of a red megaman and a blue/purple protoman from battle network but they also give off a kingdom hearts vibe, iron valiant is also amazing giving me the metal sonic feeling XD, heck it’s shiny reminds me of the 2 player mode androids in shadow the hedgehog
If anything, they should've made Stonjourner's counterpart Garganacl. I mean, same typing AND they look similar! The only thing with that is Stonjourner would need an evolutionary line, but would that really be that difficult?
The problem with version exclusives especially back with the GBA is trading wasn’t possible without the additional and, for a child with a tiny allowance, expensive equipment Once the DS came out with wireless connection it was fine.
I'm going to beat a dead horse at how disappointing that the shiny variants of Armarouge and Ceruledge are just their eye-color. I wanted a Megaman and Zero palette swap for them.
So did I. They made a new variation of my favorite pokemon line, and I made it a part of my championship team. I thought the Galarian Ponyta line was the counterpart to the Galarian Farfetch'd line.
Ceruledge is the best version exclusive imo, starting with a Sprigatito I picked up a Charcadet and evolved into a Ceruledge as soon as physically possible, and then Bitter Blade proceeded to carry me through the game, extremely good pokemon
I always liked murkrow more. I love birds and in scarlet same day the game came out i got a shiny and named it tokoyami. And esicue is my favorite ice type. I love penguins alot myself
It's a shame if the version exclusives live in different biomes, like the Stunky and Glameow when Glameow can clearly be in the cycling road grass area. But stuff like Eiscue and Stonjourner, and Galarian Darmanitan and Galarian Rapidash etc. I think also Drampa and Turtonator. They basically make one of the Pokemon live in the colder region which means they are always late game. At least Sword and Shield has a different ice type you can get with Darmanitan and Eiscue being the exclusives for the non ice pairings.
Yeah, to me the whole point of a version exclusive pair should be you catch a different Pokemon on the same route, otherwise don't pair them, there are plenty of different Pokemon that just show up all over...
Mareep not being available in Pokemon Crystal is to this day one of the most baffling choices when it comes to version exclusives. It's one of Johto's best Pokemon.
That's kinda the opposite of what I'm talking about, but I do agree! Like Seedot being all over Emerald but Lotad not...
It’s also one of the very few electric types that isn’t too late in game to use. Couldn’t they have made something like Dunsparce or Qwilfish version exclusive instead

Same as Glameow and Stunky.
I knew Glameow was rare, but I didn't realize it was ONLY in Sinnoh. I guess that's what you get for making another Normal cat for no reason...
@@emperorcubone Not as bad as Blitzle only being on Route 4 of BW1, and then never being available without breeding Zebstrika in future games (including BW2)
It's one of the reasons why I consider Glameow to be the literal most forgettable Pokémon ever.
Also Stunky is in X and Y
@@WaffleyDootDoot It is. I forgot about that.
Tauros Blaze Form, Tauros Aqua Form, Tauros Forest Form
But... what they should have done
Tauros Blaze Form
Tauros Torrent Form
Tauros Overgrow Form
There... you can even give them those abilities.
Starter Tauros? I'm for this...
Taurent Tauros? I like it.
get those garbage starter abilities off my tauros
I can't help but feel a little bad for Glameow and Purugly, since they're the oldest Pokemon that haven't been in a regional Dex since their introduction (apart from starters, Legendaries, and Mythicals) while Stunky and Skuntank got into 3 others, and were paired up with Gulpin and Swalot as exclusives in Paldea.
This is what I'm saying; what do you expect when one is the ONLY skunk Pokemon in existence, and the other is a boring Normal cat that has to take back seat to the other region's cats?
Here's to seeing Glameow in Scarlet and Violet's dlc
That’s a drought of 16 years for North American releases
Plus, even IN their introduction, Glameow and Purugly were rare, as they were only in one game and came quite late in the adventure.
With all the love to Meowth, why not give some to Skitty or Glameow
I love how Paldea did version exclusives. Non of the new pokemon are exclusives up until post game (paradox), so you can discover most of the new mons by yourself (which is the most fun). They also added Tauros forms as a non compulsary rare additional exclusive mon
Armorouge and Ceruledge...
@@scientistsalarian2661 yep, forgot them
I genuinely love the gothitelle line and always use them
Same
Breeding a Volbeat/Illumise has a 50% chance to hatch either of them, regardless of which one the egg came from
Wait what?! I thought Volbeat + Ditto only lay Volbeat.
@@nunyabiznes33 nope, I got bored, tried breeding a volbeat back in gen 4, got an illumise
Because of this, these do not belong on this list. Technically NOT version exclusives since there is a way to get both in one copy.
Both have a 50% chance of not being in my team
Doesn’t Tauros+Miltank= 50% Tauros/50% Miltank if you breed them. I know that you can breed them so I guess what I’m asking is can Miltank hatch a Tauros if bred with one? Or will it always be a Miltank since she’s the female even though she bred with a Tauros?
Question for you all: Do you think we should get some type of Murkrow Paradox form so that we can keep up the linking between it and the Misdreavus line because it got Flutter Mane?
Hmm, that's a good point. Although Delibird was an exclusive in Gen 2 as well, so maybe that's what they were intending?
@@emperorcubone gligar paradox form when?
Maybe, but make the Murkrow Paradox a Future one sense Flutter Mane is a Past one
the irony of Flutter Mane being a scarlet exclusive is that Misdreavous itself is a Violet exclusive
@@mastergreeen1385 they did it with hydreigon, salamence and tyranitar too
Armorouge and Ceruledge are definitely the most “balanced” version exclusive Pokemon.
@@Compucles i thought it was the other way around
Just a quick correction about misdreavus in gen 2. It actually was a version exclusive to pokemon gold (GBC) and its counterpart in silver (GBC) was sneasel. Sneasel also received a new evolution in gen 4, but the method of evolution was different from misdreavus; severing the former bond they had.
Woa, plus Sneasel got a regional form (Hisuian Sneasel) AND a brand new evolution for that regional form. (Sneasler)
Next I bet we hear about the new Sneasel Paradox forms called Iron Claws and Savage Hands or something. lol
i know im 3 months late but thats simply not true, sneasel and misdreavus are both available in gold AND silver, those two have never been countrrparts
I've always found Gothitelle ugly, I dunno how it can be a waifu. It's about the same attractiveness level as Jynx, meaning no.
@@nunyabiznes33 same, especially as reu is one of my favorite pokémon
i hate waifu mon sosososososo much and i just want reuniclus 😢 i think the gothitelle line is conceptually sick but a lot of waifu mon are conceptually sick and then look awful (this applies to a lot of pokemon in general too thinking about it) anyway i am #1 tsareena hater
GameHebe
I hate them for doing this. SV already have a lot of waifu mon and they decided to add Gothitelle instead of Reuniclus
I found Lunatone & Solrock to be an interesting version Exclusive duo.
gothitelle is great. cool design and stellar inspirations (lolita + cosmic being). but regardless, the reuniclus line aren't even in scarlet and violet so clearly the pair can be seperated.
Reuniclus is meant to come back in Indigo Disk actually.
Surprised you didn't mention Seviper and Zangoose
They even had a in story rivalry that made sense why they were version exclusive
Perhaps you would enjoy my previous video on the topic. (I do love when they attack each other in horde battles!)
Speaking as someone who picked Sprigatito, Armorouge is a fantastic addition to my team. I love the animation of his arm cannons as he uses his signature move
ARMAROUGE IS SPELLED WITH 2 A'S, NOT 2 O'S!
My favorite version exclusives are definitely Sirfetch’d, Armorouge and Ceruledge. They’re my top 3 favorite Pokémon, and all of them have awesome designs, and were also pretty strong members of my Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Scarlet team
Also, off topic a bit, but I managed to complete the Pokédex in Pokémon Scarlet.
Came so dang close in Shield but I had no one to trade with so I'm short one version-exclusive line, one starter line, Zacian, and one trade evolution that I've been unable to pull out of a raid den.
what makes it worse that Illumise and Volbeat are version exclusives is that you can breed an Illumise and get Volbeat
Haha, what a troll to have that an "exclusive" Pokemon; that'd be like Jolteon and Vaporeon being praised as exclusives...
Version exclusives appearing in raid battles is good idea. So you can get other version Pokémon.
Then they wouldn't be version exclusives
@@lightdrgn20 More difficult to find and catch. Some could be feebas rare
They did this in SwSh so they will definitely do this at some point in SV.

Competitive players:
"Are we joke to you?"
And in Competitive scene, they has different playstyles, so they're not the same.
@@emperorcubone also sorry for all my misspelling
Many players, including myself, don't stick to a mostly constant team of six like Ash but instead switch them all around regularly like Gary.
I used Gothitell! My older brother got white before I got black. So I trained one up as my psychic type 😊
Sure, but until such time that they make those variants I'll still dislike them...
@@emperorcubone I read that in my head using your voice in your videos.

Sableye is also in Scarlet and Violet while Mawile isn't.
That's just because you haven't seen the DLC yet. Mark my words...
@@Squirtle_Squad_Supremacy facts
I honestly really like Solosis and Gothorita
They're both cute, their evolutions are pretty different, and they don't fulfill the same role in battle
Ntm that they don't ALWAYS include the other Pokemon's counterpart when adding pokemon to the regional dexes.
12:44 you better not be serious. having a branched evolution for each version was a great idea and the fact there is an offensive branch which is in sword and a defencive branch in shield made it better
i too chose the best starter Fuecoco but when i played Scarlet i wasn't dissapointed by Armarouge only issue from me is homeboy learns his signature move like 20 levels after Ceruledge does
That is weird, they should just be evolution moves. But that's good, I might've tried them except I had Violet so that would be doubly redundant...
Great video man! You have the best ideas for videos out of all the poketubers I watch and your writing is second to none!
Funny how gothitelle is ranked one of your worst but was in the winning team of the previous vgc regional
Bruh perfect #1 charcadet line is GOATED
Yeah, no; I never said Stunky was bad, just that it got all the favorable treatment, that's what makes it part of a bad version exclusive pairing.
purugly is really fast, it's not terrible. skuntank also only has one weakness.
You do know that if you breed Illumise you can get both Illumise and Volbeat eggs right?(same with a Volbeat with a Ditto)
If you wanna waste your time farming useless Pokemon I won't stop you, but most people I know gave up on completing the Dex in Gen 5 after a while...
"This is an automatic 6 pokemon stricken from the roster when the abra line could have done well enough"
Me who likes all 9 of those pokemon seeing Scarlet and Violet using none of the aforementioned 9 psychic types: "Reality is often disappointing"
Burning Bionicles… Bion.. BIONICLES!!!!!!! [New Reason for loving this channel - UNLOCKED!!]
Why does he talk about gothitelle and reuniclus both having to be in the dex if one of them is in, despite only gothitelle being present in sv
That's just cause the DLC isn't out yet...
Alright, but if the gummy bear doesn’t return with the dlc you owe me $5 lol
Fun fact: It took until Ruby & Sapphire, a Generation 3 title, for Sandshrew and Sandslash to not be version exclusives in a two-version Pokémon title.
Stonjourner is one of my favourites design wise because it’s a Stonehenge with big legs and a smug face
It's the smug face that gets me; did it even need a face? Or couldn't it be immovable like the Golurk line or something?
They're not proper version exclusives, but I've always disliked how in Sword, they made Pikachu more common than Eevee, while doing the opposite for Shield.
Not only does Eevee have eight evolutions compared to Pikachu's one, meaning you need to catch more for dex completion, but Eevee also has a lower odds of being Female, so you can't even rely on breeding to help, unless you get a Ditto.
This channel is so underrated
Thanks, tell your friends!
I like the Zangoose and Seviper pair. I just really like those Pokemon :P
My favorite is when they show up in horde battles and attack each other!
Had ORAS not been in the works at the time I would say Metagross and Larvitat would've worked but I think something like Garchomp and Larvitar would've done just fine as well and just moving Aron to Gible's spot in route 13 would both make sense and help balance out the game by not overflowing you with pseudos and strong dragon types really early on
For Gothitelle and Reuniclus I don't think either of them are wastes of space since we're not comparing them to past gen mons because gen 5's gimmick was not having any past gen mons so just saying "use Alakazam instead" misses the point both in their usage in gen 5 and later because part of the point of including them is to make each region feel unique and vibrant instead of just having the same gen 1 pokemon over and over each time.
I also really like Iron Valiant and Roaring Moon and to a slightly lesser extent the rest of the paradox mons, the sheer power of all of them and just the designs alone of the two strongest paradox pokemon(past the legendaries) is just amazing to me
My least favorite version exclusive is the clothing in sv because it almost singlehandedly makes me not want to play scarlet because I do not like the orange.
Oh, and Volbeat and Illumise can't be version exclusives, since you can breed Volbeat to get Illumise and vice versa
But... Gothitelle is in SV, but Reuniclus not. So yes, you can do one, without the other. And despite being 2 Psychic types, those 2 have different playstyles.
Eh, you just say that because they haven't released the DLC with the other one...
I love Oranguru but it is always in the version i dont have. I love its cry
Going to throw in some ideas I had for possible version exclusive counterparts
* Tyranitar and Metagross - Non Dragon type Pseudo-Legendaries
* Togepi and Happiny - Baby Pokemon whose final forms have a BST above 530
* Lucario and Zoroark - Both are canine based Pokemon who starred in movies released before their debut generation.
* Talonflame and Corviknight - Early route birds who lack the normal typing (Or lose it in the case of Fletchling)
* Inkay and Clobbopus - Cephalapod Pokemon who lack the Water typing
* Lickitung and Tangela - Kanto Pokemon who got evolutions in Sinnoh which are obtained via learning a move
* Poliwag and Oddish - Kanto Pokemon who are part of a Three Stage line who have two options when evolving a second time.
* Salandit and Combee - Males are rather useless
* Donphan and Copperajah - 🐘
* Amoonguss and Breloom - 🍄 🍄🟫
* Litwick and Honedge - Dual types three stage ghost lines who evolve with the Dusk Stone
* Toxicroak and Bellibolt - Frog Pokemon who lack the Water type
Inkay and Clobbopus actually make a really interesting pair! And I would love for each version to have its own unique elephant...
Honestly, I thought they were going to have some type of relationship to Gallade- be a regional evolution replacement like Runeregus.
I mean Drapion is Poison/Dark type and can be caught in both games; so it’s not a huge loss that Pearl can’t get Stunky.
My favorite version excludices are definitely dragalge and clawitzer.
The choice is tough, cause i love em both
I love Clawitzer but I always seem to get the version with Skrelp and Im not the biggest fan of it
To be honest the Scarlet and Violet paradox forms pissed me off a bit.
Poor sableye losing it's counterpart Mawile in gen 9.

I agree, but I'd make Volbeat Bug/Fire!
Eiscue with belly drum sitrus berry into a physical attacker is awesome being able to guarantee set up and if they hit you they just make you faster is a fun way to sweep!
Like I said, I don't hate Eiscue, but does Stonjourner have anything like that? I doubt it...
@@emperorcubone nope only the worst special defense of any fully evolved Pokemon.

Reuniclus is not in SV but Gothitelle is
I'm not understanding the connection between a penguin and Stonehedge but hey maybe there's some world history I'm missing out on. If its just being single stage monotypes with the same BST and that's it that's kinda weak. Even others that did this like Seviper/Zangoose had lore behind them.
Yeah, maybe they meant to throw something to tie them together in the Crown Tundra, but just, forgot...?
I ran into a shiny illumise bug thing in Y right after I beat the game. I hadn't had a shiny in years prior. I was heartbroken

I agree with this
I have a DS lite, a 2ds, a copy of pokemon platinum that I want to complete the pokedex, a copy of soul silver and a copy of pokemon saphire... The fact that I can technically complete the pokedex all the way through but need a copy of Diamond AND Pearl to get Stunky and Glameow is every disencouraging
Haha, so close, yet so far...
Appreciate the Bionicle reference!
In terms of abilities and stats spread, Reuniclus and Gothitelle are completely different. Yes, they do have similarities, but there’s enough to argue for them to be different enough in a playthrough
Abilities yes, but to me Gothitelle's stats are just a worse Reuniclus. But if not, even then did they need to be 3-stage lines?
@@emperorcubone They definitely could’ve been 2-stage lines. Gothitelle has objectively the best competitive ability out of both of them with shadow tag, but since it’s a hidden ability and shadow tag isn’t as relevant in playthrough, Reuniclus has the better abilities in a playthrough
The fact you can’t even find Stunky and Glameow in Platinum just shows some mistake were made
I agree, Sableye is a cute kind of Creepy 😊
Remember how OP they were in the original Ruby, Saphire and Smaragd Version?
Just what I love to see when I get home from roofing
How are you complaining about the Spanish region having bull Pokémon?
It's not that fact that they exist; but why, when they're already SO rare did they wall them off in separate versions?
It is weird you didn’t mention that
Also, I like stonjourner and eiscue way more than the charcadet evolutions, which is frustrating because I may be the only one
I’m not trying to defend Volbeat and Illumise but can’t you breed one for the other instead of having to trade?
My man love the content
Waitaminute, there were version exclusives in Gen 1 as well :o I distinctly remember not being able to get the Blue exclusives back in the day
Yeah, no; I was saying that ever since Gen 3 you couldn't "catch 'em all" and then only trade for the missing ones, you also needed FRLG, and it's been spread out like that ever since, versus the Exclusives being the only outside prize for you to get...
I always considered galarian sirfetched and galarian ponyta to be exclusive counterparts, since they were both revealed in the same trailer
Hmm, interesting; I always considered Ponyta a counterpart to Galarian Darmanitan, maybe just because they both go from a single type to two, and it can gain the Fire typing the horses lost.
Actually darmanitan gains the fire type that darmanitan lost 😆
I'd have to look at the Galar Pokédex. Version exclusives are _usually_ right next to each other in the Pokédex (though not always; Gen 1 almost always separated them.)
The fire knights being Burning Bionicle’s that’s a first they’re mainly compared to MegaMan since they were designed by a MegaMan designer, personally reminds me of a red megaman and a blue/purple protoman from battle network
but they also give off a kingdom hearts vibe, iron valiant is also amazing giving me the metal sonic feeling XD, heck it’s shiny reminds me of the 2 player mode androids in shadow the hedgehog
If anything, they should've made Stonjourner's counterpart Garganacl. I mean, same typing AND they look similar! The only thing with that is Stonjourner would need an evolutionary line, but would that really be that difficult?
0:41 the way you picked my favorite pokemon as an example 😭😭 ik its a confidence but like, its funny ig
That's okay, you can just pick that version and be the one to trade it to others!
The problem with version exclusives especially back with the GBA is trading wasn’t possible without the additional and, for a child with a tiny allowance, expensive equipment
Once the DS came out with wireless connection it was fine.
Someone wanting separate versions?! That’s gotta be a hot take.
I didn't say I wanted them, just that they're never gonna stop...
I think having 2 new pseudo legendaries being version exclusives would be interesting
Hmm, like if Gen 3 split apart Beldum and Bagon? That could be cool, but only if one or both was NOT Dragon.
@@emperorcubone agreed
I'm going to beat a dead horse at how disappointing that the shiny variants of Armarouge and Ceruledge are just their eye-color. I wanted a Megaman and Zero palette swap for them.
As a person who started with Sapphire, I have a special love for the hoenn pokemon and are my favorite aesthetic of designs
Don’t trash talk the bugs, I love Volbeat and Illumise! Also, I adore Eiscue! Lol also, also, Ceruledge and Armorouge....good, but overrated lol
In the DLC Murkrow should get a paradox form. Newer gens should continue giving Charcadet new armours.
Honestly I wouldn't mind Charcadet becoming the new Eevee, with new forms every other generation...
Word! I like to see a better fire/grass type and fire/fairy type
I really like how almost all of the non-special new paldea pokemon are obtainable in both games.
I’m angry learning that Glameow is so rare since it’s one of my favorites. (If it’s a cat I’m gonna love it.)
Shame you didn’t mention Galarian Ponyta it’s such an incredible Pokémon and it’s why I chose Shield over Sword
So did I. They made a new variation of my favorite pokemon line, and I made it a part of my championship team. I thought the Galarian Ponyta line was the counterpart to the Galarian Farfetch'd line.
Paired with Galarian Darmanitan? They'd probably be like 8 or 9 on my best list, just missing out...
Your speech on the gothita line is blasphemous
Ceruledge is the best version exclusive imo, starting with a Sprigatito I picked up a Charcadet and evolved into a Ceruledge as soon as physically possible, and then Bitter Blade proceeded to carry me through the game, extremely good pokemon
I always liked murkrow more. I love birds and in scarlet same day the game came out i got a shiny and named it tokoyami. And esicue is my favorite ice type. I love penguins alot myself
Nice! I got a shiny Misdreavus like a year ago so we complete the set! (Penguins are the best animals...)
