You know what's weird? In the episode Spongebob Longpants, when Spongebob drove so badly but the instructor passed him just because his pants was long. But when he switched back to his short pants, the instructor ripped his license. This is very weird, as the length of your pants doesn't have anything to do with your driving skills whatsoever. It could be a silly story the creators made, or it's a law in Bikini Bottom that you must have long pants to drive the test. But then you realize that most of Spongebob's classmates don't even wear pants at all, so it's pointless. Another thing is in the episode where Spongebob drives blindfolded. In reality, you can't really drive blindfolded because you have to see the road to concentrate. But when Spongebob wears his blindfold, he somehow drives really good. And when he took his blindfold off, he's scared at driving and fails miserably. So maybe Spongebob is scared of the road, but he has a special ability to detect things around him when he's blindfolded. I'd say it's a unique superpower, but again maybe it could be just a silly story made by the creators.
I like to think Patrick is naturally good even with his new boat. He just got caught up in the moment. Getting the brand new boat made him cocky, and losing his license (at the hands of his best friend, no less) made him briefly forget everything during such a tense moment

13:40 Based on Spongebob's license and when that episode took place, 2000-2001, we can conclude that Spongebob was about fourteen-or-fifteen years old. That being said, when the show premiered in 1999, we can conclude that based on his date of birth of 1986 that Spongebob was at _least_ thirteen years old. People talk about Spongebob being childish in the earlier episodes, and thats because he _is_ childish - he was a Teenager living on his own. The Age of Adulthood may be different in Bikini Bottom compared to the rest of the world but this explains quite a bit. That being said, Spongebob should be round about thirty-eight at this point in time(2024).

Dance Teacher here! Love the approach and your analysis of Mrs. Puff having issues with SpongeBob. In this situations the show teach us Teachers that sometimes a certain Student or students will need a different approach in order to make them achieve their goals.
What I've found interesting is in most situations, the driving instructor prepares the student for the driving test. The examiner is a different person who works for the department of motor vehicles.
SpongeBob has this condition called anxiety issue driving. It’s preventing him from riding the boat, cuz he was feared. But Mrs puff can’t killed him because someone out there won’t let her get freedom and was forced to teach him until he passed. Solution: if he ready to ride the boat, Mrs puffs must create a drawing simulation to what it looks like inside the boat car. And teach them property which one come first.
I think good ol' sponge just continues to fail his test not out of pure incompetence, but because he likes the routine. Home, work, boating school, ends his day, rinse and repeat. If anyone is harmed during his drivers practice, well thats just the cost of routine baby!
I've rode in countless cars in my life, it doesn't seem like a hard thing to do. To drive a vehicle. But driving is a different experience than riding. And I might be in the same boat as SpongeBob....uh...not, literally.
If you get a DUI or DWI, you may have to take court ordered driver improvement programs to get your DL reinstated. I have a possible theory that is overlooked: Spongebob may suffer from PTSD while being in a vehicle earlier in his life. He may have suffered a very traumatic episode to fail his driving test so many times!
Just want to throw this out there about Patrick and the Green Fish; Misses Puff gives out licenses based on a closed driving course rather than an open road test with actual traffic, and while someone can be great in a controlled driving course, that DOES NOT always translate to real-world experience. not sure if those other boating schools use a closed course or take a set traffic route through public roads that test each skill, but if the latter is the standard in Bikini Bottom, then all of the licenses given out by her are likely invalid anyway.
10:42 i dont think that because of these Accidents Patrick is not qualified for driving. I rather think that after he got his license he thinks too high of himself and just doesnt care about any rules and becomes reckless. He also behaves like that
Dude thank you very much! I've done some driving lessons, remembered SpongeBob struggling and searched for an explanatory video. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for, and very well executed rabbit hole or whatever its called
SpongeBob has intelligence but not wisdom so he can easily pass the oral test but can't apply that knowledge to the physical whereas Patrick used to be mostly wisdom with only rare moments of intelligence meaning if he was given the oral test he'd likely fail it but the fact Ms puff skipped it allowed him to use his wisdom to think on the spot and figure out what to do thus passing the test without actually becoming a good driver as he wasn't actually learning he was just improvising in a way that didn't translate from the controlled environment of the test into the real world
Also, based on your information, maybe SpongeBob good at memorizing stuff like the theories of things, but sucks at practical things like actually doing it physically
The running gag here is that because SpongeBob is an invertebrate, he is quite literally spineless. He is so spineless when taking his boating exam that he has no confidence in himself. Even though he can effortlessly pass his oral exam, he lacks the courage to perform during his driving test.
Driving isn’t a matter of being book smart… being practical and academic are very different things. I was always an A+ student, I read Law at university and qualified as a lawyer with a large global law firm - so I’d say I’m book smart. But I’ve always struggled with practical tests. I failed my cycling proficiency when I was at school in UK. Driving took me at least three attempts to pass the practical side. All I’m saying is don’t confuse “book smart” with the ability to pass a practical test, it is not a good base for a theory.
i feel like if spongebob was able to be less nervous and had a more patient teacher that knows how to deal with students with anxiety he wouldve passed by now
She also gets to maintain the record of the test having a low pass rate because of SpongeBob’s constant failures. It creates an illusion of weeding out the weak with high standards, which is a big factor in accreditation of schools.
The one time Patrick was nice to SpongeBob in the modern era in Driven to Tears, Patrick is usually a terrible friend nowadays, sure, he rubbed it in SpongeBobs face that he passed, but that doesn't mean he didn't attempt the test for the right reasons
Maybe SpongeBob just has hyper anxiety of driving and plus he has ADHD so I guess it acts up whenever he try’s to drive and I’m surprised how SpongeBob has just snapped I would drop out of boating school and give up on getting license and just use the blue or red unicycle if I was him
What's sad is i have a similar problem, I study hard and am even good at driving However I cannot pass the theory test, i always end up getting one or two marks off. And i have taken it too many times now.
The green fish sounds younger in that second appearance. Which lends credence to my own theory that all the episodes are out of order. You may be asking how it took that guy so long that he sounds way older when he finally passes in spite of Spongebob only failing 37 times.. But in the Season 4 episode Mrs. Puff You're Fired it is revealed that he failed over a million times, something which gets Mrs. Puff fired. At the end, his entire record was destroyed so it was like he never failed. And Spongebob being who he is wouldn't want to reignite the troubles that would get Mrs. Puff fired again (even though oblivious to him she probably would) likely just goes along with it and starts over counting. This also explains another inconsistancy since Patrick knew about Spongebob's Library well enough to hide in it despite not knowing about it in much later episodes.
One reason why Patrick passes while Spongebob fails isn't intelligence, but the fact that Spongebob suffers under severe driving anxiety. Several episodes showed (we're taking episodes from the first 3 seasons as later episodes get very inconsistent with Spongebob's driving skills) that Spongebob is very well capable of driving vehicles. He drove a sandwich, a bubble, even when Mrs. Puff tried to unalive him, he survived driving a monster truck, but as soon as he realizes he is in a setting where his driving skills would get examined, his anxiety takes over and he loses all his previous skills, causing him to have a freeze reaction. Patrick simply is too dumb and simple-wired to overthink or develop such complex kind of anxiety, thus passes the test
Also from a storytelling perspective: Patrick immediately passing the test is supposed to emphasize Spongebob's grief even more. It creates an even bigger contrast between Spongebob and other students makes us think, why Spongebob couldn't pass that test when even Patrick could. At the same time, in universe, this scene makes Spongebob think it must be something wrong with him, as he is much smarter than Patrick
It was revealed by Tom Kenny himself that SpongeBob is autistic so my theory is even though SpongeBob is very knowledgeable, and he is capable of driving a boat. He gets overstimulated when he’s actually behind the wheel, and thus all that knowledge is now basically scrambling in his head, and that’s why he freaks out. Ann just has to add a note. I am autistic myself, so I know exactly what that’s like.
I'd say is either: Spongebob has an anxiety with driving an actual boat mobile, probably by the reason you concluded, PTSD, he's actually perfectly able to drive as long as it is not a boat, as he has driven krabby patties, bubbles, rocks and even planes. So it's all in his mind Or, he just got obsessed with Mrs. Puff and fails as an excuse to spend time with her
"He's really booksmart, but doesn't know how to apply himself." That's basically me with riding a bike. I've tried to do it in the past, but every time fail to apply the knowledge correctly. It's gotten to the point where I don't even feel like touching a bike, since I'll probably just not correctly apply the knowledge and end up breaking something for, like, the tenth time.
It’s sadly relatable passing the exam but failing the actual driving test 🥲 driving is scary. You could die or kill somebody even if you’re extremely careful… it takes less than a second for something to go wrong on or near the road
Because the screenwriters want a stable convenient unchanging plot, as in every sitcom. How big is the glitch in the Matrix and TH-cam is full of video essays on fricking SPONGEBOB?!
SpongeBob will never get his drivers license as long as the show still goes on even if one day he finally gets his license like actually gets it he’ll still be in boating school in a future episode like still never got his license
Its been proven in multiple episodes that hes a good driver he just has severe test anxiety and freaks out under pressure.
It depends on the writer. In most episodes, he has severe test anxiety, but in episodes like "Boat Smarts", he's an idiot.

1:08 technically Patrick placed a walkie-talkie INSIDE SpongeBob through one of his holes on the head, and they covered it with a tall hat so Mrs. Puff would not know SpongeBob was cheating on the driving test, which she had seemed to be fine with as it would mean she would NEVER have to teach him EVER AGAIN!
There reusing a character design
Same reason as Timmy getting Fs in his school tests.
The biggest reason behind this is because of one out of the three BIGGEST rules the creators of the show had which was that SpongeBob is to NEVER get his license
What are the other two?

I truly hope one day, when Spongebob ends, it ends with Spongebob inheriting the Krusty Krab, and finally, FINALLY.........getting his Drivers license and driving home in his new boat.
Picture it. He finally earns his license. He drives around town, and one last time he heads home. He heads inside, laughs with joy, and the camera focuses on one final shot....of a Pineapple under the sea.

Spongebob is not a kid, he's an adult always has been

Dance Teacher here! Love the approach and your analysis of Mrs. Puff having issues with SpongeBob. In this situations the show teach us Teachers that sometimes a certain Student or students will need a different approach in order to make them achieve their goals.
Mrs. Puff should do driving lessons with SpongeBob. And she should do that with dual control boat, a boat with dual breaks and gas.
you do know background character voices are always inconsistent right?
I don't remember Fred ever beintna different voice actor tho
What I've found interesting is in most situations, the driving instructor prepares the student for the driving test. The examiner is a different person who works for the department of motor vehicles.
SpongeBob has this condition called anxiety issue driving. It’s preventing him from riding the boat, cuz he was feared.
But Mrs puff can’t killed him because someone out there won’t let her get freedom and was forced to teach him until he passed.
Solution: if he ready to ride the boat, Mrs puffs must create a drawing simulation to what it looks like inside the boat car. And teach them property which one come first.
I think SpongeBob has driving anxiety
Thank you finally someone who thinks that!
I think good ol' sponge just continues to fail his test not out of pure incompetence, but because he likes the routine. Home, work, boating school, ends his day, rinse and repeat. If anyone is harmed during his drivers practice, well thats just the cost of routine baby!
Spongebob doesn't even need to drive a boat. As seen in the pizza episode he can drive a rock.
I've rode in countless cars in my life, it doesn't seem like a hard thing to do. To drive a vehicle. But driving is a different experience than riding. And I might be in the same boat as SpongeBob....uh...not, literally.
Let's hope not
If you get a DUI or DWI, you may have to take court ordered driver improvement programs to get your DL reinstated. I have a possible theory that is overlooked: Spongebob may suffer from PTSD while being in a vehicle earlier in his life. He may have suffered a very traumatic episode to fail his driving test so many times!
Simple, SpongeBob never learn his fail and keep doing the same mistake.
He also behaves like that
“Drives her crazy” ha!
She probably gave him 230 points for not killing anyone during that entire backwards driving segment where he destroyed the course.
Dude thank you very much! I've done some driving lessons, remembered SpongeBob struggling and searched for an explanatory video. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for, and very well executed rabbit hole or whatever its called
SpongeBob has intelligence but not wisdom so he can easily pass the oral test but can't apply that knowledge to the physical whereas Patrick used to be mostly wisdom with only rare moments of intelligence meaning if he was given the oral test he'd likely fail it but the fact Ms puff skipped it allowed him to use his wisdom to think on the spot and figure out what to do thus passing the test without actually becoming a good driver as he wasn't actually learning he was just improvising in a way that didn't translate from the controlled environment of the test into the real world
My argument is that Patrick is qualified because how many people with a license still speed or run lights
I was just thinking that his biggest mistake with this video was assuming that people would drive as safely on the road as they would on the test
This channel tackles life's important questions.
Mrs. Puff should be permanently removed from her job as a teacher cause I don’t like the way she treated SpongeBob like Crap or anything
Also, based on your information, maybe SpongeBob good at memorizing stuff like the theories of things, but sucks at practical things like actually doing it physically
in “greasy buffoons” i swear spongebob was driving a truck! how was he able to do that but still can’t get his license😭
I'm thinking of that one grease episode where Mr. Krabs and Spongebob dump grease outside the chum bucket and spongebob drives a giant truck perfectly
2:30 that was the guys son
You don’t need a license to drive a sandwich
Doing the practical exam 1 million times sounds like practice to me
i feel like if spongebob was able to be less nervous and had a more patient teacher that knows how to deal with students with anxiety he wouldve passed by now
She also gets to maintain the record of the test having a low pass rate because of SpongeBob’s constant failures.
Maybe SpongeBob just has hyper anxiety of driving and plus he has ADHD so I guess it acts up whenever he try’s to drive and I’m surprised how SpongeBob has just snapped I would drop out of boating school and give up on getting license and just use the blue or red unicycle if I was him
I think it's simple: SpongeBob loves it when Mrs. Puff inflates herself. The more he fails, the more he sees her inflate.
But he is always sad when he faild
That sounds like something that rhymes with "bad dish"
I'm sure she passed Patrick because she realized, "Oh god, not another one"
I think it's a straight up mental ability that causes him to act up behind the wheel some people just aren't able to drive
What's sad is i have a similar problem, I study hard and am even good at driving
However I cannot pass the theory test, i always end up getting one or two marks off.
3:47 nah shes just become batshit insane
Im just thinking that SpongeBob just doesn't study enough and he has a Disabilitie and hes just unteachable
15:03 In the truest sense of the word xD
9:45 no, cuz it was just her imagination 😅
It was revealed by Tom Kenny himself that SpongeBob is autistic so my theory is even though SpongeBob is very knowledgeable, and he is capable of driving a boat. He gets overstimulated when he’s actually behind the wheel, and thus all that knowledge is now basically scrambling in his head, and that’s why he freaks out. Ann just has to add a note. I am autistic myself, so I know exactly what that’s like.
Yeah, I can see that. I personally have a lot of trauma about learning to drive myself and I still don't like to drive years later.
I'd say is either:
Spongebob has an anxiety with driving an actual boat mobile, probably by the reason you concluded, PTSD, he's actually perfectly able to drive as long as it is not a boat, as he has driven krabby patties, bubbles, rocks and even planes. So it's all in his mind
Or, he just got obsessed with Mrs. Puff and fails as an excuse to spend time with her
Bru, your content is hella underrated, GJ
"He's really booksmart, but doesn't know how to apply himself." That's basically me with riding a bike. I've tried to do it in the past, but every time fail to apply the knowledge correctly. It's gotten to the point where I don't even feel like touching a bike, since I'll probably just not correctly apply the knowledge and end up breaking something for, like, the tenth time.
The fact that SpongeBob supposedly has hair (yellow apparently, so not his eyelashes) even though we can’t see it slightly disturbing.
To be fair, there is that joke about Sandy questioning wether Spongebob has hair, so maybe he does and we just can't see it 😂
Obviously, this time I fought SpongeBob was dumb. now, I realize that SpongeBob is smart
SpongeBob just loves to participate in the class.
He clearly sabotaging himself
I never understood why he can drive everything except a boat. A submarine, tractor trailer, the Patty Wagon and a freaking rock! 😂😭
Why is he so underrated
one thing i really dont ge in episodes we see him taking tests over n over n over but in others we see him driving even tho he don't have a license
I gotta drive carefully as a good driver not be irresponsible like SpongeBob is
Love these videos!!! Keep up the good work 👍👍
There is an episode where after Spongebob failed,Mrs.Puff gets house arrested.
well if he passes they cant keep using the boating school plot for episodes
Because the writers can't come up with anything original. Nothing worth making a 20 minite video essay on.

This a debunk Alex Bale's theory, right?
If not, when are you going to do fixing the 3rd theory?
SpongeBob will never get his drivers license as long as the show still goes on even if one day he finally gets his license like actually gets it he’ll still be in boating school in a future episode like still never got his license
SpongeBob doesn’t have the right balance of tension and relaxation behind the wheel. He keeps on panicking when behind the wheel
If SpongeBob did the test once a day, that means he's been trying for almost 3 1/2 melania
