I love Howard the Duck :)
    Is it a Blockbuster... NO.
Is it a fun, campy, crazy sci-fi parody, a fast-paced romp and a GREAT popcorn movie.

Howard the Duck was always a silly laugh. Even in the comics. This movie was thoroughly entertaining.

@@captainjakemerica4579: I consider that to be a good thing. We need more movies with differing tones throughout. I'd much rather that than the single tone we get from most modern marvel movies. Or in the case of some (Cpt Marvel for example) , no tone at all..

When I hear hate for this film, it always baffles me. It's a great laugh. And as an aged teen when it came out, the presence of Lea Thompson may also have had a hand in my fond memories for this film.

Lea Thompson is the peck of hotness in this movie. At one part when you see her getting dragged by Dr. Jennings as a monster and she kicking her feet you can see extra if you know what I mean. I'm so surprise that the film makers didn't take that out or edit so you wont see her vagina. No joke you can see it better on blue ray HDdvd or 4Kdvd. For anyone who had a crash on Lea Thomson as a teen. Your welcome lol. More of a reason to go back ;)

I've never understood what the problem is with Howard the duck , it's a fantastic film with so much imaginative fun stuff going on. Solid SFX great cast script and good time all round. I've always enjoyed it and went out of my way to track down a ex rental copy in the 90s due to it just disappearing in the uk

I was born in 1982, and it’s difficult to quantify how many times I watched and rewatched this film growing up. I’ve always been kind of amazed how much it’s universally hated, as I found it so endlessly entertaining. However I recognize that I was watching it through a different set of eyes. Would really like to rewatch at some point, as I still think it will hold nostalgia and entertainment value for me.

I own an original copy of the first time Howard The Duck was introduced in Spider-Man. Naturally, when the movie came out I HAD to see it. I was a huge fan of it then. I'm still a huge fan of it today! I was so glad when they brought the character back, at least in cameos into the GOTG films. But THIS film is so over the top fantastic.
When you asked who this movie was intended for? ME!

  • @danielvandersall6756
    @danielvandersall6756 ปีที่แล้ว +7

What's always fascinated me is that they originally had a very different script; then "Ghostbusters" became a massive hit. And the studio suddenly began to give notes. Note the similarities; a creature from another dimension possesses a character; scientist characters...

I applaud you, JoBlo, for an honest take on Howard the Duck. I'm sure it would have been easy to blast all the goofiness, story, and weird sexual interplay between Beverly and Howard. There's some type of honesty and innocence to a lot of the mid-80s movies that simply cannot be discounted, and certainly not recreated today.

Marvel might want people to forget about it BUT Howard the Duck (‘86) exists in the MCU all thanks to the multiverse. I would love for them to reference this and other gems like the ‘90 Cap America flick with Cap just stealing peoples cars and of course Fantastic 4 ‘94.
I guess the best way to do this is a show about Deadpool joining the TVA.

Personally, l always have and always will love this film, despite or because of its faults.
Therefore, it is great to see it get some more love from JoBlo.
And no film starring the very lovely Lea Thompson at her very peak should ever be considered bad.
Sometimes a fun, funny and undemanding film is just what is needed.

I enjoyed this movie when I was younger and it ran non-stop on cable TV. Looking at it again later, it was a bit tougher to get behind. My main problem with it feels like it can't decide if it wants to be an edgy sci-fi comedy or a kids film about a duck - one minute giving us dark, disturbing, or sexual moments, and the next giving us 1970s Scooby Doo-clone-grade dad joke dialogue and comedy.

I'm going to give this movie (and others in the bad movie category like Showgirls, Waterworld and Battlefield Earth) some praise. Now on a level they're still bad movies and there's a reason why they flopped on screen. This one in particular was pretty bizarre what with it featuring anthropomorphic ducks showing boobs and Howard and a scantily clad Lea Thompson almost doing what i can describe as borderline bestiality.
And yet just the fact that it took risks makes me have respect for. Particularly if you compare it to modern movies where they either extend franchises thin (Expendables), burned out complete genres like the comic hero genre, or just do remakes of classic movies with political messages thrown in. In other words, modern movies won't take a leap into the unknown and would stick to the same tired formulas. And it's still a bad movie but its got a certain charm and wackiness to it that actually makes it likeable.
That being said, i really hope they never remake it. I fear they're going to have actual furries in it
