I'm 42 this year and I can STILL remember the Howard the Duck song they play at the end. Might have been panned, but I loved it as a kid, duck nips and all. Then again we were watching things like Police Academy and Ghostbusters, so swearing, adult themes and bad behaviour was pretty normal for us.
Hell yeah! I'm the same age as you and those were the movies back then. It gets me how back then we would see stuff like that in movies and no one made a big issue out of it like today.
I loved this when it came out back in 86 and still do to this day. I never realized until I got older how panned and criticized it was. Still one of my favorite movies!
One of the biggest reasons why it was so hated was parents were REALLY outraged over Lea Thompson's bedroom scene. She's probably the first big name actress to aaaalmost have a beastialty scene in a movie!
I remember growing up with this movie in the late 80's early 90's and my sister and I LOVED this movie! I never understood why people hate it so furiously! I always took it's absolutely out of this world themes and narrative as intentionally over-the-top and enjoyed some of the 4th wall breaks! I still love this movie today!
I grew up of Howard the duck when I watched it back in 89-90 looking at it now that's not the worst movie people claimed it was Coppell to me the sequels that were made in the in the 80s of Nightmare on elm Street, Halloween Friday the 13th.
My little brother's name is Howard. We sang the end song of this movie to him at his 18th birthday party and I gave him a copy of the movie for his 30th. As soon as he opened it he told his daughter "I know what we are watching tonight". This movie might be a trainwreck but it still can bring joy to some.
42 years old and still love the movie. The 80s, as you basically pointed out on a lot of your videos, the 80s were weird and great when it comes to movies. It had everything.
Haha I'm so old, I remember this movie, this movie, Harry and the Henderson's, and Beetlejuice were my favs. Beetlejuice is the only one that stood the test of time tho.
wtf is wrong with howard the duck??? this is a great movie, and has a lot of passion in it.. i still like it now as i did when i was a kid (circa 1983 :D)
If you are referring to "Walkabout" Chucky, that was John Franklin. (Children of the Corn, The Addams Family, etc.) Brad Dourif did the voice for Chucky. I don't know of Ed Gale working on that film.

Hey Minty, for the parts where you do cutscenes of yourself and your other self, you should get a better microphone for these types of scenes. When you're doing VO on the video itself, your mic is great! But then your mic gets awful during every cutscene..
Unlike others, I really liked Howard The Duck. I saw it when it first came out in theaters. I knew enough about it not to expect it to be the next Star Wars. I enjoyed its 'tongue in cheek' take on Sci-Fi.
Howard the Duck was just ahead of it's time. I loved it as a kid and still love it. I have talked about this movie with a lot of people over the years and what I heard is a polarized 50/50 split of love it or hate it.
I actually really liked this movie. Of course that could be because I had a huge crush on Leah... Lea...lee ya? Thompson growing up. Awesome as always Minty!
When I was a kid, 7, or 8, the three movies I would always rent would be ET, Monster Squad, and Howard the Duck. One of my favorite movies, despite all its flaws. And that coke can is still on the shelf, LOL.
I actually saw this in the theater opening weekend. I was a big fan of the comic and remembering enjoying it for what it was. You have to remember that compared to the Marvel TV stuff this was a step up.
I love this move when I saw it as a kid and as an adult. I feel it's just misunderstood and people like to just jump on the band wagon of hating it is all. If it was remade today I bet it would be awesome. Also, one thing you could have mentioned was the legal battles over the rights to the property. It's an interesting story.
This is a fun 80's movie, that doesn't get enough credit. I can't believe it came out the same year as ALIENS and cost almost twice as much to make. Phil Tippet's stop motion work on the Dark Overlords is awesome!

Always learning from professor Minty. Had no idea Lucas was behind this abomination. Landis may have helped, but I think Ralphi Bakshi could've made it a phenomenon, either animated and/or live action. And interesting you mentioned National Lampoon, as in it's early years it tried to promote Wobbles The Goose as it's mascot symbol. Thankfully canned, I couldn't help think watching this review that Lucas was no doubt a fan of the mag, and to make Howard work would be a 'in your face' fusion he could gloat over. Too bad Lucas lost his mojo after THX1138, American Graffiti, and Star Wars. Those one can sense he had a passion for. Everything after was like he was just 'phoning it in'. BTW, I like your accent mate, and one Minty is sufficient. But where's the pyromaniac puppet? That may work for Lucas better I think.

I love Howard the Duck comics and the movie. It’s an amazing comedy and they have brought Howard back into the lime light thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy. It was one of my favorite “cameo” scenes. I really hope that they actually use him in the ongoing Infinity War, even if it’s a very small part.
Cripes, if you would've asked me I would've told you the movie was a huge hit. I saw it at the theater and then watched it dozens of times on VHS. All my friends saw it too. It was better than Three Amigos and that ending credits song is just such a catchy 80's anthem that still rings in my head to this day.
I loved this movie as a kid! The design and movement of the H. T. Duck character was fluid and well done, The effects were great (I loved the D.O.O.T. Universe's powers, especially his thrown energy shock ability in the diner) There was an awesome flying scene with an ultralight, there was Lea Thompson
I gotta put in my two cents, I consider HTD to be a guilty pleasure. Ya there are parts I find creepy and I skip but one thing I really love about this movie is the music. The late John Barry really did a good job with the score, making it sound almost 1940's with the trumpet and the beginning when Howard launches into space and sounds like an epic. John Barry can really bring a not so great movie up a few notches with a great score and I really like Linda Thompson's singing especially the ballad. At a time when some tv and movie actors were cutting albums it's a wonder she didn't make a solo album.
I have to stand up for Howard The Duck. I enjoy this movie just the way it is. I only watch Revenge Of The Nerds more than this movie. Thanks for the info.
