Like or dislike this film you gotta admire how they went the extra mile to show us Howard's world. The posters, the "ahem" magazine. The extras. Even if we only saw it for a few minutes it was still all amazing to see.
You had to have read the "Howard the Duck" comic magazine for awhile to really get the movie. Familiarity works wonders in that respect. (And probably less than 1% of the entire population was familiar with the comic at the time. Probably even a lot less now.)

My dad took me to see this because he thought I’d like it explaining that it was based on a Marvel comic. We watched it many times together since that first time. Lost him in 2019. Very special movie to me.
The Empire Strikes Back scared the shit put of me when I was a toddler back in the early 1980s. Our nearest city was so for out in the boonies that films were already on VHS by the time our theaters got them. JURASSIC PARK was at BLOCKBUSTER before I saw it in a theater.

Also a great musical score by the late, great, legendary John Barry (composer of such epic scores like ZULU, OUT OF AFRICA, SOMEWHERE IN TIME, The theme to JAMES BOND, and many of the original Sir Sean Connery Bond films, KING KONG 76, DANCES WITH WOLVES, THE MIDNIGHT COWBOY, and Disney's THE BLACK HOLE, etc.
I was 11 that year, but I didn't get to see it until it came out on VHS, and my parents rented it from a local small rental shop for my brother's and I one weekend. Those little places were great. We also had to rent the VCR, which was a top loader, so the video may have been BETAMAX.

That opening scene was hilarious 🤣❤ I grew up in the 2nd golden age of Hollywood, on 80s & 90s films. I intend to bring back that magic together with the rich emotional connections of the first golden age. I even dare to take the challenge of creating a popular silent film in the post modern era as a tip off to the founding generation of Hollywood.

He is sitting on the city streets where the ducks are looking at him suspiciously, a mom is telling her kid to keep away, and a policeman is eyeballing him while having his billy club at the ready. Why does the song that play during the title showing sound similar to the map selection theme from SNES StarFox. Just pointing that out. It been a long, long time since I saw this movie. But now watching this again. And also someone who’s played StarFox? And heard that theme. Compare the two themes together?

That's because they used mechanical puppetry for Howard's face, with a voice- over, and those Lords of The Universe monsters were stop motion animated puppets. CGI was still in its infancy, what with TRON being just a few years earlier,, and most effects being painted on the actual film cell by cell.
