Hannah, want to know something funny? One time I was at an auction and I wanted to bid on a huge wardrobe, quite similar in style to your cabinet. I was hesitant though as it was too huge to fit through the small doorways of my old home. The auction person told me, "oh, no, this is a Victorian piece--it's meant to be taken apart and reassembled. Many large furniture pieces were made like that back then, if only because a lot of old houses had very narrow staircases." So bear that in mind when you shop antiques! In any case, you did a superb job with your cabinet! And the painted stairway looks 1000% better--I was hoping you would do that eventually, tbh. 🙂You could even add a pretty little light fixture, you know, for dark winter nights!

Have you considered building an outdoor staircase to a small balcony that goes into the spare room upstairs? 1. You get a balcony. 2. Stairs for plants. 3. You can get furniture up with more ease. Literally if anyone can build that, it’s you.

When I lived in Vermont I bought an antique wardrobe I just had to have in the bedroom. No chance in the world it would go up the stairs that looked a lot like yours Hannah. Lol Thankfully a drywall delivery truck moved it by crane, the drywall too, thru the bedroom window. When we moved to AZ I had to leave it behind, broke my heart. Much ❤

You washing your apples reminded me of a little tip: When it comes to fruits, veggies, and berries, it's best to wash as you use, rather than when you first harvest or buy them as water can accelerate rot and they won't stay fresh as long. I don't know if you already knew that or not, but there you go in case you didn't! :)

Really enjoyed this. We just moved to Colorado from the Texas Gulf coast, and are experiencing seasons for the first time. I made an apple pie the other day. As we were eating it I said to my husband “I picked these apples myself and then made a pie with them. How cool is that!” ❤️
I love your willingness to dive headfirst into even the most daunting tasks. Both the linen cabinet and the stairs look great. A mirror on that shelf above the landing would refract light and further brighten the stairwell.

Massager: I have same one and LOVE IT! it has saved my job a few times. The loops at the bottom are to put your hands through for more pressure. You can use it for your lower back and thighs and even when you have cramps and menstrual cramps.

You could make an opening in the wall to the left when you first start up the stairway Put a header across the top and put temporary shelves in the opening When you have to move large items up/down the stairway just remove the shelves ❤

I can relate, Hannah! I have a historic home in Tennessee with a very narrow staircase that turns 3 times and like you, got 2 heavy rugs and a big chair upstairs all by myself. I'm a young 73. My friends asked me how I got those rugs up there by myself. I replied, "inch by inch !!" Where there's a will, there's a way!!! Good job! The linen cabinet looks great and love your white stairway and green steps!!!!
