I’ve lived off grid for the last 8 years also. In that time i’ve had many nights where the fire went out at 2 am at -44, the propane needed changing during a blizzard, wildlife ate 4 gardens, chopped, cut, split, moved endless cords of wood, woken up to empty batteries, frozen water, mice that have a knack for chewing wires and getting into stored food…. Oh Lord have mercy, Barron as Veronica was super hilarious. Loved it! Barron dahling, you simply MUST do more Veronica videos! So this video was very informative and gave a clear-eyed look at off-grid living. I don't live off grid and most likely never will, but I would not have realized everything involved in such living. Thanks for sharing. (Barron, you simply MUST)
I just found your channel and I must say: THANK YOU! You did such a great job giving a comprehensive overview of off-the-grid living. We lived off the grid in Arizona for 4 years and it was HAAAARD. No electric, grocery store 3 hours away, isolated, no well, fighting the elements and critters, and we even had a baby out there. I love how you explain this lifestyle as not being romantic and Instagram worthy- because it isn't. It is hard work ever day, learning new skills, living uncomfortably and with the bare minimum. Retrospectively, it is the best thing we ever did. We are now proud to have gained this experience and the appreciation for life, nature and every single screw. I wish you all the best!
I think a point a lot of folks miss when they see videos glamorizing off grid life styles is the fact that they require disciplin to obtain the freedom. I think a lot of people (if not most) are in love with the idea while completely ignorant to the realities. And those realities are what most people need but do not want. I liked your video, good quality stuff. Jolly good show🤙🏽
You guys are wonderful! I’m laughing out loud. ❤️ At 75 I will not be living off grid but I can tell I’m missing a whole bunch of fun. Thank you for letting me live vicariously through you. Love & Blessings til next time! 🙏🏻❤️
Yes! I commented the same. Man, if I could go back… sigh! Alas, no. BUT, I enjoy living vicariously through them as well. Great kids. I love them. Their parents must be so proud of them. 🥰
In movies they mean - detached from society - no phone etc but in reality the definition is not being connected to grid services - we are off grid but have solar power so we have electricity
@ I think you're right, but I always think it's funny when I see TH-camr videos that talk about their off-grid lifestyle, when we can clearly see that the TH-camr has high-speed internet, Amazon/UPS deliveries, etc. Like, "Wow, your lifestyle is so off-grid!"
A very informative and very trippy video. Can't stop laughing. Barron.. you do the girl thing very well! Love the ending especially riding off on the bike almost falling off that was great! Sure Elsa had a blast filming you. Thanks guys this was fun! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🧡👍🏻
Your thumbnail is perfection. I used to watch she who will not be named, but I stopped after one too many thong thumbnails! Thanks for the laughs and all the great information.
Great work you two! Saving up the money alone is an accomplishment. I watched you two from when you were in your little camper and seeing that you have a house now. WOW! AMAZING! You've both learned so much! Keep up the awesome work.
I have been offgrid for homesteading for 12 years and I love every moment of it. Have had ups and downs but ups more then downs....we built our property our cabin and brought it up from the dirt we pay 300. A month for 40 acres. And property totaled to 20,000. We are almost paid off and we get to keep our cabin with no bank owning us.
You two are so badass! Of all of the people I follow, the both of you are then ones I feel have really figured out how to do homesteading right. All of that time on the road gave you time to really research and figure out how you wanted to live the rest of your lives in the most realistic ways. Plus, you both are incredibly hard working. It's going to be so fun seeing how you incorporate the new baby in the mix.
It's nice to see honesty in an off-grid life video. "Homesteading" isn't a thing in this day and age. That was a wild west concept when government land was being basically given away. It is now just alternative lifestyle or land development . TH-cam and TikTok have made it common for the video grifter types (you are not included in that group thankfully) to act like they are living the 70's hippy lifestyle in a modern world all the while being supported by people on Patreon, AdSense, and lots of sponsors shoveling really expensive hardware into their lives to make what they are doing impossible for others to do and appearing like they are living a sustainable and easy life. Let's face it.... unless your life is your trade - professional content creators - living an off-grid lifestyle is not attainable for the vast majority of people. You have to have an income. You have to have the skills to do every part of your existence on your own. You have to have property in an area that allows "alternative building methods", aka, shoddy structures cobbled together with spit and bailing wire. EVERY deviation from that list requires more money, more time investment, more government entrapments and complications and to be honest, most people can't handle not having all the modern conveniences. I have watched DOZENS of channels that intended to be off-grid, alternate and disconnected from the trappings of modern culture come apart at the seams and returned to civilization or get exposed for saying they were doing something they clearly were not doing while grifting for donations and free labor and materials. An honest transition into that kind of lifestyle is BRUTAL and those that say it is not are scamming you for donations. Thank you Elsa and Barron for sharing your journey and not candy coating crap for the consumption of the masses. Your happiness is clear....
I loved your enumeration of all the strings that come with mortgage loans! Inspections, insurance, regulations, etc. AND you’re paying interest to boot! No thanks. You guys definitely are doing it the right way! And your kids will be way ahead of the curve.
This video was very well done and straight to the point and extremely entertaining!! LOL! Wow Barron! Loved every second! You two are really amazing and can't wait to meet the new addition soon! 😂🤣😂I’m here in Florida going through hurricane Milton right now, praying that a tree doesn’t fall on our home and this video was the perfect distraction I needed for a very nerve racking time. Oh yes, thanks for the humor!
My ex and I, ( I should say I), built an off grid house. Yes it was an experiment, and with experiments come mistakes. However, with failure comes learning. That said, the experiment was a success. It was work, sometimes hard work. I found it fore filling. My ex didn’t, so she left the experiment, and the marriage. We sold the house. And we moved on. The take away is this, off grid can be a lot for some to take, for others fore filling. Both parties need to be on the same page, accepting challenges, and doing the fair share of work. To be fair, my ex wife was used to a lifestyle that involved being connected to city life and money, not solitude and self reliance.
I've been watching your channel for years and this has got to be the funniest, while informative video I've ever seen. It's EXCELLENT!!! You two are hilarious 😂 😅😂 WELL DONE!! THANK YOU❤
I salute your efforts in the Rockies!!! Gorgeous area. High mountain gardening is its own challenge. A great hack is to pump CO2 into half underground greenhouses to about 1200ppm. Low CO2 is one big reason for high elevation garden difficulties. Higher CO2 means most plants require far less water as well, so low humidity is also less of an issue. You can make CO2 by fermenting sugar, btw. No idea what you would do with that fermented sugar after...its a real problem...
Great content. As I am now officially a single female senior and still wanting to accomplish my dream of [semi?] off-gridding, this was quite valuable. This is more my idea of "independent living."
Well done! As someone who's built two homesteads in my life (one on-going again now) you've presented the very real challenges people will face. As you age, you'll also learn the lesson of "work smarter, not harder" and realize there's a need for a plan to bring in additional "manpower" to do the heavier work in your later years. Thanks for busting the myths of some mystical nature that will not fail to provide you with everything you need. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL (/manaical laughter)
Thank you for being so transparent. Lots of respect for what you've accomplished, and it makes me think about the people who did this 200 years ago and before.

I died because I didn't realize that it was Barron until the last second! 😆😆😆 Honestly, its the type of shenanigans that has kept me subscribed for so long! Thank you for keeping me informed and damn near pissing myself.
I did it for four days and it was kind of difficult. You always have to think about resources. We couldn’t run the oven and the fridge at the same time so we had to unplug one when cooking.
Excellent look at the realities. I follow several TH-camrs who live off grid and though they never say it’s easy, they usually don’t disclose the sacrifices as well as you just did. Love the interjected humor as well; to endure and overcome as you build your life off grid, humor is a must.
😂😂😂😂😂 Baron!!! The bloops were the best! ❤ but on an serious note, this was such an informative video. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience in such a detailed way.
That was gold! I laughed out loud several times, all whilst Elsa was narrator. How you put it all together was genius. Honestly, I thought the woman getting into the tub was another content creator, nice butt! Great video! 😂
Good video. I agreed with much of it, especially the criticism of plastics, and of some specific regulations that make it harder for people to live off the grid. I think criticism of regulations broadly can be tricky because many of them are serving important health and environmental purposes. I also personally don't subscribe to the idea that fluoride is dangerous and don't believe any reputable evidence exists for that. But I 100% support someone avoiding it if they don't want it. I know my comment may come off as combative but honestly this was a good video, I really appreciated the balance take of the pros and cons of off grid living and not just pretending it's all great or all terrible, keep up the good work you two.
Most if not all regulations have at least a tinge of good intentions behind them, but over time, as they continue to pile up, you end up doing more harm than good. The safest place for all of us is inside a padded room, so if the government went to the max to keep us all safe, that's what it would do. But that's clearly ridiculous, so there's a tipping point somewhere along that spectrum. I think the recent wildfires in CA are probably a case in point. But with regard to housing affordability, regulation upon regulation might have some positive effects, but when it puts habitat out of reach for a growing number of human people, when it makes housing ever more expensive to build and therefore induces supply constraints, then you have to ask yourself: is what we're protecting more valuable than the basic need for humans to have shelter (and for that shelter to be affordable)? Is it more important than preserving fundamental liberties?
I live in Europe and recently travelled to Florida and was gobsmacked at the amount of water wasted just in the toilets there (and likely most of the US, just can't confirm)! It's astounding
Yeah, but in Florida water is essentially free, so it isn't really wasted. The problem is things like low water usage showers being mandated where there is cheap water or where you have a graywater system where the water is used for gardening. Even where water is intrinsically expensive in the west, you have got situations where for folks with "Senior" rights, water is essentially free, and they are in a use-it-or-lose-it situation, while others are paying an arm-and-leg for water, and end up killing trees rather than being able to pay a market rate for water.
@@richdobbs6595 it is being wasted though. Having every public restroom using half a gallon of water instead of 2-3 gallons naturally creates less waste, gives septic tanks more space from being filled up etc. Even though you have it doesnt mean you HAVE to use it all at once and honestly, exporting water between states wouldn't be a crazy idea either.
@@cdiehr-xm3mc Shower water doesn't have to go through water treatment plants. That's just common practice. And the cost of water treatment for sewage is dominated by solids load, not the volume of water. It's still a one size fits all approach, instead of solutions tailored to the wide variety of situations and costs in the USA.
@@birtarb07 Tell me you know nothing about septic tanks without telling me you know nothing about septic tanks... the liquid runs through a tank into a septic field... only the solids stay in the tank.
@@islandtook okay? There is still huge amount of water in the bowl of the toilet that gets flushed down. I am not talking about all the water being flushed becoming waste that is gathered, hence in a something like a septic tank, but THE WASTE that is created by using the amount of water being used where you could use at least half the amount of water and still have a working watercloset. Tell me you haven't been to Europe without telling me.
This video does an excellent job enumerating all the points of "law" that prevent normal people from getting ahead of the curve in life. It's pretty crazy to think that someone has to travel to hunt because they are being told they "can't eat" where they live.
I freaking loved this vid. It's also mad how we've got all these regulations and no "but if you're remote...exemptions". No wiggle room. They need to start making that. Remember... it's about the journey, not the destination - and you guys are certainly on the journey & show a realistic but fun-loving approach. Thanks for sharing!!!
I have a question that almost never gets answered at such off grid videos. The question is about medicine and education? How do you manage medicine and medical care? What do you plan or use for education for kids?
My husband and I live off grid, we have a substantial Medical kit but we are an hour from a hospital, there’s a school not 25 minutes away, some of the people near us have kids that go to school there.
@EdynBlair Thank you for your time to clarify my query. I am highly grateful to know that you have planned well for your journey. I wish the best to you and your family in your life. Stay blessed!

I really admire you two. At your young age, you have already accomplished what most people will never achieve. Freedom, self reliance, self educated the hard way. Life could be easier, but no life would be more satisfying.
When asked about my lifestyle, I tell people I live "intentionally". That begs an explanation, to which I reply that my goals in life are to be first a minimalist and second, autonomous. It's not a necessarily easy nor difficult decision . . . It's MY decision and I would never go back to being "normal".
I think the biggest mistake people make is they don’t realize just how much work it really is I live in suburbs my house is paid for and when I decided I know longer wanted to pay an electric bill the regulations I would have to go through was unreal luckily I found a loophole, and I will say it there’s nothing more American than producing your own electricity, so if anyone who’s considering even partially off grid, you need to know what the laws are, and look for every loophole you can find, even as I am posting this one of those ads for free solar panels popped up please don’t fall for that. They are not free. There is no upfront cost but you are paying for an over priced system that you may never own. I started small and built it up from there. Luckily, I have a background in industrial and residential electronics, so it was easy for me to build, for everyone else with a lot of the new systems available if you can plug a wire into a socket you can do it. And I will end this with how I started it. It takes work more work than what most people are ready for.
Love this video! It definitely doesn't romanticize homesteading but doesn't rule it out either. It's an honest and realistic perspective on what it takes to truly live off the grid. One thing you guys should think about when composting is vermicomposting. Worms will eat pretty much any organic matter and will create a great soil amendment. Just throwing that out there.

(Barron, you simply MUST)
So we're not free. We are all renters even if you buy a home cash. You have to buy whatever the government says its approved
Great kids. I
love them. Their parents must be so proud of them. 🥰
Barronica needs a series 😂😂😂🎉
I second this 😂😂😂😂
‘Barron-ica’ is just lovely. I really enjoyed how much she felt at ease around you guys. I really hope you have her visit on a regular basis. 😂🤣😂
0:10 So in all those movies where somebody says, “he’s off the grid”, they just mean the person doesn’t have electricity?
Yep
if they don't know what they're doing...
In movies they mean - detached from society - no phone etc but in reality the definition is not being connected to grid services - we are off grid but have solar power so we have electricity
@ "That Jack Reacher. He lives completely off-the grid." You mean? "Yes...he didn't pay his electric bill." 😃
It’s almost 4am in the Uk. Cant sleep. Open You Tube and within 20 seconds of this video I’m smiling… you and Barron never disappoint… thank you!!!!!

I really appreciate this sweet comment🥹🤍
It was so amazing that you ended up with the exact neighbors that were perfect for you and Barron. James snd Doreen rock !!!!!!!
Partner and I CRIED LAUGHING! That you so much for launching Barronica!!!! MORE PLEASE!!!!!!
Barronica is the fun added element I never knew I needed in your videos 😂 loved this one!
Yeah, I think too few people realize that to live the life portrayed in so many YT channels, you need to have a successful YT channel. :)
I loved your enumeration of all the strings that come with mortgage loans! Inspections, insurance, regulations, etc. AND you’re paying interest to boot! No thanks. You guys definitely are doing it the right way! And your kids will be way ahead of the curve.
Many off grid areas still have to adhere to zoning and code laws/permits etc. fewer and fewer places are completely code free.
This video was very well done and straight to the point and extremely entertaining!! LOL! Wow Barron! Loved every second! You two are really amazing and can't wait to meet the new addition soon! Truthfully you have everything one really needs with limits which is not unreasonable but took a TON of work! Bless you both!
OMG this was done so well and I had to keep rewinding Baronica. She is SO talented and easy on the eyes LOL
I haven't laughed that much in a long while. You hit it out of the ballpark with this video. Very informative, flowed great and the humor. GREAT EDITING!!!
THANK YOU❤
Off Grid Homesteading is a
Lifestyle not A hobby! Half your Information is BS!
You’re half assed doing it!
I didn’t think this video could get any better and then
Barron with the chainsaw 🤣😂☠️ I love you guys. This was pure gold!!!
First and Foremost that is the greatest catfish. And I love how honest and clear you were about the pros and cons.
Well done Elsa & Barron! Thank you for sharing your journey with honesty and lots of laughter! 😁💕
It has been so funny talking about what Barronica is going to say like she’s real. Our stomachs hurt from laughing.
Barronica is awesome a true parody but also informative 😁
Thank you for being so transparent. Lots of respect for what you've accomplished, and it makes me think about the people who did this 200 years ago and before.
I can see how this is working for you two. You both have a good sense of humor and are having fun with it. Really healthy relationship. I wish you all the best.

@@ElsaRhae that's right 😂 😂
I absolutely loved this video! Informative but with a comic relief!
I did it for four days and it was kind of difficult. You always have to think about resources. We couldn’t run the oven and the fridge at the same time so we had to unplug one when cooking.
Yes!! So many things to think about!
Thanks for all the great real life information. Great job Barron so funny
Man, I am so happy to be off-grid. I have no explanation why I am so happy being so Spartan.
Not a scam for this man. I am super happy.
Great!!
😂😂😂OMG...yall, this was so funny, and yet had so much great information! I hope yall had fun making this!
This video does an excellent job enumerating all the points of "law" that prevent normal people from getting ahead of the curve in life. It's pretty crazy to think that someone has to travel to hunt because they are being told they "can't eat" where they live.
Great video, love how real it is. Tired of so many over egged stuff. Also very balanced and explains the benefits vs the challenges. Nice work.
OMG - funniest reality presentation ever! Thanks so much
I have a question that almost never gets answered at such off grid videos.

What a great video! People need to know the reality of living off grid. I loved the book!
Love this 🤍
I love that Baron is doing the important girly things as well, like dirtbiking, chainsaw action and pull ups!❤
Baron you in a dress was a riot.
Have you guys looked online for greenhouse kits or something you could modify to suit your needs.
I was worried for a second thinking that was your back Elsa 😂 phew 😅
😂 yeah Elsa’s in shape, but that was a bit over the top! 😂Dang goof ball kids! I love them. 😍
