Great video!! I live in the desert and a few nights ago, I had a rattlesnake curled up in my backyard. I took my 9mm out with the CCI shotshell and gave it one trigger pull from about 10 feet away. That did the trick. It straightened that snake right out and silenced it forever. I think the only benefit is reduction in the danger of ricochet.
I had high hopes for this video but it was kind of a let down. No one would be silly enough to shoot a 9mm shot shell at a target 7 yards away. Their primary purpose is, in my opinion, no more than 3 yards. For venomous snake duty, you just have to stay out the strike range for a given length snake. In the US, that would never be 2yards.
We call those snake loads. On my ranch, you'll never see a rattle snake at 5 or 7 yards. Most of the snakes I've shot are with 5-7 ft if you're lucky and many times closer. At snake distance, they are great. I've shot a bunch of them.
Great video. Thank you very much. I was looking at those to maybe buy. You helped me decide that a big shovel at 5’ would be much more effective on a snake.
I've dispatched a lot of rattlesnakes with these on my property in southern Utah, but I've never shot one from more than about 6-7 feet. I've never had one cycle the slide in a semi-auto yet. Besides my carry gun, I usually carry a lightweight Ruger LCR revolver in my pocket when I'm in the field and likely to encounter snakes. Even then, it usually takes two shots to take the head off. I use these though to minimize the chance of a regular defensive round bouncing off a rock and back into my face. Other than snake control, I can't really see a use for them.
I don’t understand why so many TH-camr’s can grasp the concept that these rounds ARE NOT self defense loads. What I mean, is they are not for use against a human attacker or most mammal sized attacker’s. These are almost specifically for snakes and small varmints shot best from a revolver, bolt action or lever action platform. They will cycle in “some” semi-auto platforms and even then, not reliably. If you purchase and use as intended for their intended use, you can’t get much better. However, steer clear of the .22lr loads unless shooting from a rifle. I’ve shot a diamond back at 5ft with .22lr out of my pistol and it just pissed it off. Thankfully my next round in the chamber was a hollow point and my aim was true or I’d have had a rough day. I haven’t shot the .45acp shot shell, but the 9mm works great and does cycle in my P365, but is still probably good practice to use these with a revolver or manually rack the slide every time to ensure a proper rechambering.
If you use the stuff for what it's meant for, shooting a small moving critter at well under 10ft, it actually works, and is a lot easier than trying to hit it with a single bullet with a pistol. FWIW, been using the 22LR version with an old S&W Model 17 revolver for a few decades now.
@@gunsgearoutdoorsalaska5875 Mainly field mice and small birds that get into my 30x36 garage. At 5-10ft the rounds have a pretty good pattern and enough to kill the things. There are definitely some things in there you don't want behind the critter, but for the most part the #12 shot will just bounce off of whatever is behind it.
I use them when entering the cabin after I have not been there in a few months. The mice hate them. All the shooting is about two yards or less. Similar to your banana shooting. It beats trying to stomp on them or hitting them with a stick. Nice to have next to the bed in dark cabin while trying to sleep. I usually give the mice the dirt nap with them in an old bolt action 22
@@gunsgearoutdoorsalaska5875 it doesn't really mess up the cabin. The cabin is an old log cabin - no electricity or plumbing. I usually don't shoot the critters tell they are a foot or so away from the dogs or my brother.
I’m going to try these to dispatch flying squirrels in my attic. They are always sitting still on rafter beams, but I don’t want to penetrate the plywood roof behind them.
I've used .22lr and 9mm on snakes and rats. Both work just fine at short range. I like them because I can shoot them in a barn without damage to anything but the pest.
in HOU TX we have snakes on the trails, while bike riding, so i carry a 10 round mag with this loads, havent had to use them but irather have something than nothing. (mostly copperheads out here).
Would be interesting to know if the massive spread is from pellets spiraling out along the rifling. And if larger pellets (I believe there's a red plastic cap variant with larger shot) might engage less (roll over the rifling) instead. Ofc if the shot cup is rotating with the BB's inside, that won't help much :D What sort of holster do you use for your PPQ? :)
I have actually tried those on rodent and they don’t do very good job you’re probably right you’ll be better off with a BB gun sometimes they’ll kill the rodents and sometimes they won’t so it’s actually probably a waste of money but I like the video Good info
Its snake shot. Itd for point blank without much coladeral damage. With a normal gun Shooting down or towards rocks at a snake could ricochett back and cause a hazard.
Very good video. I wondered their utility as well. Agree that perhaps inside a barn for pests would be a likely application. I may have missed it but are you using a Glock?
I’ll have to agree with the lack of value with these. Why not 100 to 125 grains of 8 shot. That at 650 to 800 FPS should at least dispatch a rat. That super fine 12 shot has so little energy, it renders it almost useless on anything bigger than a dragonfly. Thanks for the interesting video. Please keep them coming.
I have them for my .22 and 9MM and beyond 10’ they are useless. Now up close within 5’ they will blow a large snake in half. So I hope that clears up what they are used for. As far as mice I think your not going to find many up close as they are fast and your just going to shoot holes all around your house. The traps are much better. Mice also hide very well so it’s hard to find them and by the time you do you then have to go get the gun and by that time they are long gone
@@gunsgearoutdoorsalaska5875 gotcha I’m just going by personal experience I no the 22lr has been the best in my 22s but I have not bought anything else by them I DEFINITELY would Not by those rounds after seeing your videos thanks for the heads up great video cheers from Minnesota

My brother used to open up 22s, dump half the powder and fill it with wax to shoot mice in his log cabin... Haha.

I could imagine they would work pretty good for that, not much use up here where there aren't any snakes.
You would think cci would load them a little hoter so they would cycle better
I almost missed the bananas at the end. Best part for sure.
