This is why I like my followers and I do this stuff. Great comment and stoked that you recognize the good stuff when I lay it out. Good comment, appreciated 💪
Loved the way he took his time, listened and gradually got inside your head to understand issues. Then removed the fear gradually and bingo. Can see he’s a great teacher
Trottie, I’m a UK senior and been playing off and on since my teens. My chipping has been consistently c**p from the outset, with the yips turning up more often than not. I’ve tried just about everything over the years, but nothing seemed to work. My son pointed me in the direction of this lesson a few days ago, as I’m quite a wristy player. Just been out in the garden trying this technique out. I laughed my socks off. Virtually from the outset, nice clean strikes with the ball looping up and landing softly near the target. It’s like a ‘throw away your crutches’ moment! Cheers, mate.👌🏼
I love his teaching methods. Take nothing away from anyone who teaches but some have their way and their way only. Derek not only gave you some options but was open to different ways to play these shots (if it works it works). This video taught me new ways to practice and new shots to have in the armoury. Fantastic video this Trottie. Everyone have short game struggles throughout their golf life.
I live about 20 mins from a hard green RTJ golf course in Alabama and this right here just helped me soooo much! I've always tried to be handle froward and they run forever now this makes soo much sense!! Great vid!
Trottie this is exactly what I and I am sure many golfers need. I feel like the mass majority or people don’t know how to hit lies and spinners and just what to do in general. I want more for sure! I learnt the most in this video than any other arguably.
Breaking it down into different "skills" is huge. Love ground first vs ball first. Been using both without ever identifying them and practicing them as individual skills. Awesome!!
Thanks for this Trottie!! I live in Florida now and over the years of fighting grain, I have gotten away from and have been so scared to use the ground. When he said to use this shot into the grain, I almost fell out of my chair! This was a big help!!
This guy is next level. It’s one thing being a coach, but being able to fit a style around a player is rare to see and shows how good this guy is. Thanks Trottie for sharing.
By far one of the best golf videos I've ever seen. I used to be a loose handed cut spinner and morphed into the handle pulling axe murderer. I could have watched Trottie hitting those flighted spinners all day .... can't wait to get on the chipping green!!
yea we touched on it off camera but my bunker play has been okay, I gotta keep some stuff just as is for now. No doubt I'll see DD again, maybe we cover it then
Great video, don’t know if I’m going to cry or smile 😂 I’m not at your level of golf but the way you described your “defects” it was almost like seeing my self… great instructions and guidance from Derek, just gold🏆
Trottie that was fire. Need more of that I learned a ton from this video and have been practicing it now myself. Never could play that shot before and now after three range session I feel comfy to play it. More of it please!!
Only way to be Troy otherwise you simply don't get better! Tough for me as a lotta history in there that I need to iron out and get back on track. Progress happening to be fair
Trottie, thanks for highlighting Derek! I live in Tucson and had no idea there was this caliber of a coach here! I just sent him a message to set up my first lesson with him! Great video brotha and keep up the amazing content!
Trottie THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video because I am literally in the same boat as you I have stopped using my hands around the greens where when I was younger it was all from my hands
Love this struggling with short game myself out in aus with the grainy lies just spitting truths very very interesting keen to get to the chipping green and give this a go
I was a handy chipper as a junior golfer who never feared getting up and down. Went to a stiff no wrist method that just isn’t working. Going back to my roots! 🎉
This was interesting, reminded me of being a junior practising with pals competitive chipping. We were wristy and made the ball dance, now with all the mental scars, scared witless to try it. Off to the practice ground to have some fun again, let’s see if i can re create my youth.
Looking forward to more of you getting your own Short game style and what works for you. As a UK golfer so much of the American youtube/IG content appears to be off turf conditions we would find it hard to relate to and therefore apply around our practice greens. Too often very little is shared regarding trickier situations or only if you sign up to a monthly video programme etc A little bit of knowledge and a wide audience can be dangerous and get ordinary golfers all tangled. As you say 17.30 think about how many are lost.
yea totally agree and UK chipping for me is easier. As I played more in the US I started to understand why wedges have evolved the way they have. Just different grass types and different set ups, it's massive over here
Great video. Will go find some tight firm lies to practice on. I was also hoping to see him dive into the ball first technique as well. I play on some very grainy but loose bermuda lies, so I can't always use the ground in this way. Is there a follow up coming?
Trottie!!! This is great...also i have the same issue now that i have given lessons and been a fitter for a long time. We have too much info and data at our hands. I had a better short game in college for sure. Keep driving and get it done Trottie!!!
Absolutely brilliant! I've been trying to emulate the likes Stricker and Day when I used to chip and pitch in a "handsy" way Just been messing about around the green with all sorts of lies including damp lies (UK) and its like magic Feel like im not having to find the bottom to avoid fats and thins because the clubhead's weight finds it all by itself Please dona ball first session mate 👍🏻
This is really good advise if your playing hard pan 90% of the time. I’d be terrified to do that technique in soft conditions which many of us play in 90% of the time.
Ground first swing is a bigger swing than my current ball first swing/mentality. How did you not skull any across the green? That would be my biggest fear with releasing the club that freely, hahaha
Remember having chipping comps with your friends as a kid, or trying to pull off crazy chips by yourself around the practice green? Do that as an adult! I still go to the chipping green and hit flop shots from 1 yard off the green, I hit draw chips, cut chips, and basically the wrong chip from where my location demands. This is how you keep your hands conditioned for on the course.
Don't disagree. Will say he let me run & in all fairness we are trying to cook up a TH-cam vid too..... BUT that's why I liked DD, he just chilled and waited for his moment
Played some golf with top class pro sportsman who get over a 2 foot putt and go to bits, Im like "What did you do when taking a penalty at Wembley you didn't think how do i kick this , were do i release my foot" so why in a meaningless golf match are you shaking over a short putt? Whats the worst outcome? You miss, so what, make the next move on. So funny what golf does to the human brain!!
He didn't say anything about Lowry, if anything you wanna emulate Shane & Tiger. He did say Strik & Day are outliers based on how far the handle travels and how wide they get BUT if you rotate it's not a method you shouldn't consider. Derek purely suggests you should start with the handle moving less initially before you go straight for wide and rotated. He goes on to say it's patterns that work for the individual hence why he likes in person lessons opposed to online. Hopefully that makes more sense for you 👍
it may be helpful in these lessons to let the coach get a word in and listen. not trying to dog on you, just thinking you have access to all the greatest pros and coaches in the world, there’s probably a lot of gold out there but harder to hear if you keep trying to tell your narrative
Appreciate the comment but I don’t think it’s possible to narrate a piece of content , get a true lesson from this & then have the odd opinion like yours. DD isn’t on TH-cam , I gotta get him comfortable & still tell my story. I’m a true golfer, who was struggling with chipping. DD has changed my world in the short game area, if I was talking too much then I wouldn’t be able to make that statement. I hear ya. I appreciate your opinion but I’m not sure I could do this any other way. Just my response and not dogging on you either PLYR.
I live my life in the game around PLYR's, Coaches, FITR's, psychs. I don't disagree but that's why I went to see DD. I needed to filter some stuff out.
fine line between c_o_n_t_e_n_t and lesson. I appreciate the comment but obv I'm trying to ensure I'm asking as many questions as I can for all those watching.
no offense but if im paying as much as that guy probably charges... we are getting into more than just chatting and "getting to know each other." shouldve done that before you took the clients money. golf is full of these guys watch out.
Great to see Trottie a vulnerable position, below average golfer (no disrespect Trottie) and showing the world his insecurities and flaws.. total master class by Derek!! What this video taught me is stop watching videos and go out practice and get coaching from every person under the sun you can get an appointment with. Pure GOLD🥇! Need more around the green situation, rough, bunker shot, etc. Thank you for this so learning stuff!
This is why I like my followers and I do this stuff. Great comment and stoked that you recognize the good stuff when I lay it out. Good comment, appreciated 💪
DD and Stan Utley are references in short game. A lesson with Stan would be EPIC!
Loved the way he took his time, listened and gradually got inside your head to understand issues. Then removed the fear gradually and bingo. Can see he’s a great teacher

THE BEST.... Good Luck
An absolute game changer for me. I cannot WAIT to try this later this week. The thing about “I used to just do this as a kid” is SO spot on!

Mega comment. Love that you picked up on the complete vibe. Thx for dropping this 👊🏻
Derek is THE BEST!! I love (and needed a reminder) on the bit about using the ground first technique! 16:28
This is gold, 🙏 thank you
I live about 20 mins from a hard green RTJ golf course in Alabama and this right here just helped me soooo much! I've always tried to be handle froward and they run forever now this makes soo much sense!! Great vid!
Perfect timing. This coming at a time when I’m missing my 50 yards and in shots. Thanks Trottie!
We gotchu
Trottie this is exactly what I and I am sure many golfers need. I feel like the mass majority or people don’t know how to hit lies and spinners and just what to do in general. I want more for sure! I learnt the most in this video than any other arguably.
So clear and simple so helpfull good stuff Trottie
Class video mate - truly helping the people
All Derek, I just got him going
Loved this. I’ve never been able to hit the check shot whilst chipping. The technique was explained so simply. I’ll be giving this ago for sure
atta boy
That was absolutely gold mate!
Keep your head up Trottie!!! Keep on the journey. I learned that ground first shot from old Seve videos.
Breaking it down into different "skills" is huge. Love ground first vs ball first. Been using both without ever identifying them and practicing them as individual skills. Awesome!!

Absolutely GREAT Video Trottie. I learned a ton that will help me cause my chipping sucks.
This guy is next level. It’s one thing being a coach, but being able to fit a style around a player is rare to see and shows how good this guy is. Thanks Trottie for sharing.
Yea I agree. I've thought a lot about this lesson since it happened and to be fair to Derek he's mustard
Great video. Hopefully we get see the ball first technique changes as well
Stay tuned Lance, bang that #subscribe button it'll be dropping soon
By far one of the best golf videos I've ever seen. I used to be a loose handed cut spinner and morphed into the handle pulling axe murderer. I could have watched Trottie hitting those flighted spinners all day .... can't wait to get on the chipping green!!
I morphed with you 100%, lets get back in the game
Love this, great video and an even better coach, do bunkers with him Trottie! 🙏
yea we touched on it off camera but my bunker play has been okay, I gotta keep some stuff just as is for now. No doubt I'll see DD again, maybe we cover it then

Hey Trottie, new to your channel loved the golf you played with the Bar Stool Boys!
WELCOME WELCOME 👊
This was incredible. LOVE the lesson videos!
I love the honesty on your game and the willingness to get better. I learned a lot on this video. THANK YOU
Only way to be Troy otherwise you simply don't get better! Tough for me as a lotta history in there that I need to iron out and get back on track. Progress happening to be fair
Absolutely incredible trottie, I was in the same situation with my short game and this woke me up again. Cheers mate
Looking forward to more of these
This was right on time! Thanks Trottie!
Wow , this geezer is awesome , greater understanding now of hitting the ground not just the ball
He's mint. Credit where it's due
Information central! Awesome vid. Really useful. Loved watching it. I’m off to the practice ground with my wedges! ❤
Trottie, thanks for highlighting Derek! I live in Tucson and had no idea there was this caliber of a coach here! I just sent him a message to set up my first lesson with him! Great video brotha and keep up the amazing content!
He's very good. Understated great coach
Derek is money. Very through in his explanations of what to do and what not to do.
The book of knowledge was opened, and SHARED! Nice
Great watch trottie, thanks for the video
Deminsky is the man. Great call by Trottie to go see him.
Trottie THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video because I am literally in the same boat as you I have stopped using my hands around the greens where when I was younger it was all from my hands
Wow I didn't realize so many folks would be going through the same deal, totally stoked I put this out there
Best natural interview. Skills learned are great
thanks for sharing this trottie
Love the kid in the background trying that release!
🐐 appearance at 19:00 ! "How's that?" ... "Lovely"
Love this struggling with short game myself out in aus with the grainy lies just spitting truths very very interesting keen to get to the chipping green and give this a go

SHANE LOWRY 😎
Great tips! Thanks!
Been watching Dan Grieve .. it’s he’s release 2 as he calls it’s by looks.. good to see someone else teaching it though .. brilliant video Trottie!
Thx and I bought Dan's book so I can see where you're coming from with the comparison. I will say the lesson in person is the key.
Good lessons here Trottie.
Damn. Great episode! I can relate SO much to having fear of chips, but on my old man’s lawn it’s easy - Relax and just swing the club.
Awesome video and really enjoyed Derek’s teaching style. I’d love to better understand what situations are best to go ground first vs ball first?
Love this we are such head cases
This was interesting, reminded me of being a junior practising with pals competitive chipping. We were wristy and made the ball dance, now with all the mental scars, scared witless to try it. Off to the practice ground to have some fun again, let’s see if i can re create my youth.

Also, any videos upcoming on putter shaft breakdowns?
Great lesson. Give up control to gain control. Also Ants pube 😂
Great video. Will go find some tight firm lies to practice on. I was also hoping to see him dive into the ball first technique as well. I play on some very grainy but loose bermuda lies, so I can't always use the ground in this way. Is there a follow up coming?

My town! 49er is fun!
Enjoyed that …. 👍🏻✌️
wow. just another level
Great video. It seems the great short game coaches are quite similar. This is very similar to Dan Grieve's release 2 technique.
quick question. What wedge did you use Trottie? loft and bounce???
What a coach.
He's solid. Moved my data massively which is the biggest compliment I can give him.
Absolutely brilliant! I've been trying to emulate the likes Stricker and Day when I used to chip and pitch in a "handsy" way

soft you go for ball first
@@trottiegolf I’ll watch part 2 then 😂👍🏻
You saved my game now need new wedges. What bounce do you use?
Homies rocking the Jordan 4 “masters tournament” such a dope shoe
Great ! If you don't think you can, you never will !
Is it all hands or is the some body turn? Feels weird when I try the action.
Ground first swing is a bigger swing than my current ball first swing/mentality. How did you not skull any across the green? That would be my biggest fear with releasing the club that freely, hahaha
“guess what? they gotta use their hands” 🤣

100% agree......
To be fair though I had more time on my hands 🤣
Does also work well against the grain short sided?
You're gonna need ball first. Vid coming
Amazing Instagram lost I love it! I’m with it
I’m a big Stan Utley fan and this is what he’s taught for a long time. Swing the head, not the handle.
Ok equipment question for this, what bounce and grind? What is weight distribution for feet and open or closed
STD grind, 12 bounce on that 56* I believe. I was weight more on lead leg and slightly open. He was chill on those things
Can’t wait for ball first. So this seems opposite of Parker’s philosophy. I hope it blends in, I’d hate to have 4 different swings for short game
@@curtisobier6968 nah I think you're gonna see that 2 methods covers a whole bunch of situations
Tried this out today works great. The only swing thought you should have is...ants pube. Can't wait till the ants pube headcover comes out
🤣😂
With peace and love, 13 min in and our coach hasn't coached yet. Lol. Trottie is in his own head!
Don't disagree. Will say he let me run & in all fairness we are trying to cook up a TH-cam vid too..... BUT that's why I liked DD, he just chilled and waited for his moment
@trottiegolf it was a great lesson. It reminded me of when you fit Micah! Love the passion, right?
I feel your pain T Bone and have only watched the first 5 mins in.
also, shoutout p-udi in the bag

23:03 So don't model after Lowry and Strick bc they are unicorns, but do incorporate Tiger's use of hands, who apparently isn't a unicorn. Wha??🤔🤔

Release 3. Dan Grieves.
Damn, dude in the back at 2:31 almost fell on his face
Give the hands some good love. Fun shots to mess around with. Just like childhood with your mates
Video for ball first?
it's coming Ashton, you might equal me for patience levels 🤣
Educated hands 6:10
Sorry Trottie. Didn't hear a thing about pitching and chipping. Was only trying to figure out if that was a margarita he was drinking.
Shane Lowry 1000000%
I think to people forget they can practice this in there back yard and ive practiced no grass and a floor mat
Great descriptive video trottie. More of the same.
americans seem to love big drinks. LOL!
