The swat t is a must have you never know when a small child needs it or someone with small limbs where a cat doesn't work!!!

Infantry in the 80s, you're right about tourniquets, there was more training in the danger of tourniquets.

I use a swat t as a backup. I'm not worried it won't work in a standard civilian environment. Let the hater's hate, I love your products and use them.

I just got the Yellowstone kit and I opted for the extra CAT tourniquet simply because of my experience with the CAT in the military. HOWEVER, I am super grateful that I have a backup, multi-use tourniquet in my kit should I need an extra for any reason.

Great info. The best TQ is the one you have and trained to use. SWAT T is fine for the majority of normal applications.

You can use a SWAT-T for a backup tourniquet, a pressure dressing, and possibly an occlussive dressing. I would never depend on a SWAT-T as a primary dressing, but I'd use it if it's all I had. My biggest issue with it is self aid.

The SWAT-T seems more accessible. A lot of people might balk at the price of windlass tourniquets, be self conscious about carry something so obvious or worry about using them. As always, the best kind of equipment is the one that you have and know how to use.

I carry a SWAT-T in my plate carrier IFAK pouch on the job as a backup to my SOFTT-W and CAT TQ’s. Also a great option for any pediatric vics if need be. I carry a SWAT-T in my back pocket or cargo side pocket as part of my EDC off-duty. If you carry a firearm it’s always good to have a compact, lightweight and proven TQ like this on your person in case the need for it arises (hopefully not).

The other useful application is dog first aid where CAT/SOF should not be used and the SWAT-T is obviously much more versatile than the dog-specific TacMed K9.

Well then I’d Say Rhino Rescue tourniquets are even better if price is the concern 4 for $35! I would take them over SwatT any day ESPECIALLY if I’m handing to someone else. You can train and practice with one put one in your car, your partners car & ifak. SwatT only wins in terms of space but I can fold the windless style to be pretty flat but not ideally staged & still get it on faster applying to someone else & especially self applying. I have cats 6 & 7, TMT, rhino, recon, and some extra generic I havnt seen any issues except for generic & if you really crank on recons I would not fully trust the old recon med on a big thigh so for me they arnt even a backups backup, just keep ‘em in a old med stuff box. but at the time I thought recons were ok and they worked on myself through multiple reps.

Just bought one today, as a back up in my IFAK to my CATS TQ, looks like a good product. Wish I could get a spare to practice and train with.

Get the blue training SWAT-T on Amazon or eBay. I have one and it’s great to get practice reps with, I recommend it!

Because of my training CAT is my go to. But the SWAT tourniquet is great for what is arguably the most important, little kids. CAT may not get tight enough for little toddler arms.

Have you done any testing or read any medical journals that show how it compares to the CAT/SOF-T? When you say it’s a good tourniquet, do you mean it compares to TCCC approved in terms of how well it stops bleeding and is simply limited by how it secures itself? I’m curious as to how it will perform in a safer environment i.e., assuming you or someone else can keep it secured en route to medical help.

Also good for Pediatric use when a CAT is too large!

Absolutely agree on the SWAT-T. I carry it as a second back-up (third T, all my kits have two copies of my "primary" T) in every kit. Other than self-application on the arm, which is difficult, it's actually a very good effective T. As a backup, I prefer it any day over the RATS, for example (I don't like either as a primary because I find that all elastic Ts suck on entrapped limbs - try self-applying one on your arm with your hand in your pocket). And, as you said, it has a huge number of other uses. I always have one in my back pocket.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah the SWAT is a great back up TQ. I still prefer the SOF-t, or CAT as a primary, but the SWAT is a great addition to every trauma kit.

the tccc doesn't recommend it because it's awkward to self apply.

TCCC is political, just like when DoD finds a new sidearm contract.
