I’ve carried the RMT daily for at least 3 years now with no discomforts or hotspots. I carry the flat side against my body in the pocket. I have self applied it during a critical incident and in my experience was extremely effective and efficient. Another bonus feature with the RMT is you can train application with the same you carry unlike some of the other ones out there.
One of the things he missed completely - you can't train with a windlass tourniquet, by their own manuals they say you can't train with the one you carry, unlike the RMT that you're absolutely supposed to train with and abuse. It's one of the biggest points he missed. He also missed longevity. Windlass TQs have a horrible history of EDC wear and tear, not the RMT.

Excellent video. Agreed with all points. My only use of these is in training and as an instructor, not in actual emergencies. EMS folks are often surprised how effective these TQs can be. They get tight QUICK!
It should be noted that this ( or any ratcheting TQ ) can be used with the R.I.S.E. splint to form a pelvic binder. Skinny Medic did a video on it.
Theres a similar device on the market by OMNA that replaces the foot strap of a surf leash for big wave surfing and I've seen it used in person, and can say I have 100% confidence in this style of TQ.
I’ve used two to stop the bleed in real world application, and both times they have worked flawlessly. I also have some saves with the CAT, and I think the RMT is quicker to apply.

Good point how they don’t undo your progress. I’ve carried these for a few years now after a stop the bleed class recommend them. The lack of fine motor skills needed to get it tight was big. Or if you were missing fingers or something you could still get this on

Nice review, simple solution to putting it on a trapped limb, add a quick release buckle to it. Just a thought.
Absolutely, but I don't make these TQs and im not about to change a medical device on my own.
Thanks for the review. In the UK we have Rapid Stop which is similar, but can unclip to place around a limb
I appreciate the concept. I could see more people being familiar with how a binding works than a windlass for that one in a million scenario where an untrained civilian would need to assist with blood stoppage.
In my opinion the RMT and the TX2 and TX3 are the same up to the wide.
My favorite and simply the best TQ unfortunately doesn't exist.
I like the CAT7 and the SOF Gen5.
But i would like these Tourniquets with a 2 inch wide band. That would the a very good tourniquet.
A 2" strap is small enough to put it in the most pockets and cases, especially when it comes to a kit that isn't carried every time on the body.
The difference beetween 1.5" and 2" is huge. Not only because of the tissue pressure.
It works mich better on the tights. Especially when they are very muscular or thick or cushioned trousers are worn.
In my case i think of the protection trousers for chainsaw works, in the winter time woth some additional clothing underneath.
In this case the ligation of the femoral artery works much better with the TX2 than the CAT7.
Luckily I only tried it in training situations.

Some build-up vehicles are really cool. It's such a versatile platform.
Sam thanks for your tourniquet reviews and “stop the bleed” videos. I went with the SOF and have one in each trauma kit; one per car and another in my pack. Also went through your “stop the bleed” video with my daughter now that she’s driving because-who knows-she might be the first person to roll up on a nasty car wreck.
as a rescue scuba diver i see no issues with the underwater use of this TQ, i think it would work nicely underwater
How would you carry it on you though?
I've had the TX3 for 3-4 yrs. The buckle on the TX3 is slipperier than the green one you demonstrated. Also as you indicated the pressure is restricted to a little wider area than the buckle|strap area. The 3" isn't a true 3", more like 2.25". However the instructor did like it for stabilizing a pelvic injury rather than triangular bandages.
I also carry the Cat Gen 7. I was told by a sales rep for a firm selling FA supplies that there are offshore knock offs for the Cat. In use the turmbuckles broke and or the stitching let go. At that point the purchasing company didn't have enough money to replace with the real thing. Not a good spot to be in.
The TX3 should fit in most universal radio pouches. Rifle magazine pouches could also work. Not gonna get that nice snug fit from a kydex tourniquet pouch, but it'll work
Sounds actually like a good alternative for the CAT for personal purposes. I've seen police officers carrying these on both legs as a leg strap for their gun holster. And if they get shot in a limb, they'll just tighten it.

Check out the rapidstop tourniquet. Solves pretty much every issue mentioned here - difficulty of self application due to friction lock and lack of buckle for entrapped extremity application
I have four of these kicking around (two staged in the apartment, one off-body EDC, one in the range bag), and I'm about to order three more. The lack of availability and inclusion in any kits I'm aware of is frustrating.
TX is same manufacturer. The guys name is Michael Moran.
Alien gear holster just came out with a drop leg strap that has the same mechanism to be used as a hasty tq.

Have you taken a look at the rapid stop tourniquet. It is a similar design but imo easier to self apply. Of the tourniquets I have owned the rapid stop is by far fastest/ easiest to use, especially in a panic.
Do you recommend a trauma kit for travel? Car accident, shooting victim, possibly impaled, punctured lung, shock..?? Basics. Thanks.

I'd like to see it tested after being in the freezer for 12 hours. Or what would happen if shredded clothing got caught in the ratcheting mechanism. Is bending the plastic teeth strap OK with the company, or will it cause fatigue over time?
I’m late to the video, could you check out Alien Gear ratcheting leg strap for side arm holster on low holsters. It’s a thigh strap/tourniquet. Just to see if it’s worth the price and effectiveness.

As far as I can tell Trex arms only sells CoTCCC recommended Tqs.

Where in Canada? The Inventor lives in Vermont about 40 minutes to the Border (last I knew).
The only thing I'm scared of using TQs is that I might do something wrong. It's the easiest thing in the world and I train it almost daily but I am terribly afraid of making a mistake when someone really relies on me
When you’re in the situation that someone relies on you concerning a tourniquet the only thing you can do wrong is not to apply it. As long as it is tight enough don’t worry. It won’t kill him/ her. Bleeding will.

CAT is the way to go---- tried and true. This is like reinventing the wheel.
Having multiple companies in the game pushes innovation. The new SOFT has adopted many of the benefits of the CAT, and I don't see how the CAT is plainly better.
It's also context dependant. Like he said, velcro isnt always best. Most people acknowledge that the SOFT is better for EDC, due to its size...

you literally can’t train with the CAT you carry because the windlass is so fragile. start reading the NAR directions and look at CAT failures. NAR pushes that thing like it’s a relic from Mary.
