    I watch this once every month! You are the best - even as I stray to other videos. Can't find another painter with your talent. I've ordered many of your full length lessons and I'm so proud of what i create under your easy to follow oil painting techniques!

    Thanks a lot for the paper towel idea. It's sometimes frustrating to have to wait a day or two for the paint to dry to put on the next layer. This way things can move faster!

      You'll find that oil paints are a lot more forgiving and it's easy to fix mistakes. I was terrified to use them until I stared using them.

    I paint basically in this same technique and I got so much flack for it in art school. Smh my professor said I would run into problems by not using more medium but I like the control of a drier mix. It’s my style and works for me. This was refreshing thank you!

    I always loved oils, except for exactly ‘that’. I’ve tried something like but never dared to do it this way. Oh, I’m so grateful! I thank you really a lot. This is so fulfilling! I loved this trick. I surely ‘comes home’ for me.

    Excellent video. I put oil paint onto a piece of cardboard to drain out some of the oil. Not too long though! It give a thicker paint and perfect when mixed with alkyd walnut. Your technique of wet on wet with traditional brush work is brilliant. Thank you.

      Don't think your painting is ever bad. The blending is what I do with my works as I'm an impressionist painter. I squeeze paint straight from the tube and apply it (with my large pieces). I've never been about technique, when I was getting my Fine Art degree my lecturer was an abstract artist, so he was all about expression. I find if people try too much to hard to represent others works their signature style doesn't come through. (I'm all about self expression though as I am an Art Life Coach). My point being just let it flow and you'll enjoy it more as your natural abilites will shine. Bless you and your gifts xox

    Kevin, you say the shop towel sucks the oil out of the paint which makes it dry faster - my question is - Does taking the oil out of the paint affect the longevity of the painting and cause other problems like flaking or cracking ?

    Absolutely love this!! Thank you so very much!! I’ve been putting off working with oils for some time now for this exact reason. I literally just purchased a whole new open acrylic line and got them in yesterday. Lol 😂 I wish I had seen this before I ordered . But oh well , I can always go to oils next time. Though I do have some cheap oils and some Linseed oil I don’t have anything to clean up with. So I had told myself that if I ever did get to work with oils it would be the water Soluble oils, so clean up would be easier and not smell so bad. But I’ll stop rambling on ! Lol again thank you so very much for this tip and for all you do.

I’d love it if you could go into detail a bit more how you wipe the under painting as well. What you're doing is basically 'Tonking' - nothing to do with the Chinese port, but named after Professor Sir Henry Tonks, who did what you're doing, though in the days before paper towels: he used pages from The Times, instead! It soaks up the extra oil, of course. His technique generally was different from yours, of course - lacking things like gels, he almost certainly worked on a completely dry canvas (though who really knows? He might have applied a little oil to begin with, with his lean lead white: wouldn't have been a good idea at all with the much oilier Titanium White, though).

    • @teego3936
      @teego3936 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am glad someone know what the technique is, though it is not used for drying paint. Tonking is used to create texture.

    Is it wrong of me to think that the tree on the right (to me) looked better without the highlights? ;) It just looked like every little leaf was painted on once the paper came off. Is that what happens when you lift that layer of oil off the canvas? Or was there a little more brushing done just prior? Regardless, it looked great.

    • @spoonballs

      I think a reason could be that some artists kind of don't like hints and tips being given out to the audience. Maybe because they want as few people as possible improving as it means talented artists (perhaps like themselves) are less of a rarity and fear that their own level of talent becomes more reachable to others. Also, with a tip like this one, it could be the case that they thought it was their own secret. That all said, however, I personally need to be particularly pissed off or in total disagreement with something to actually bother 'disliking' a video and not just getting on with my life.
