I can't believe I ended up missing this one originally. I've always wondered what your Rush ranking would be lol. Presto is really good, I absolutely love Show Don't Tell. Lots of great deep cuts on this album. I only had the chance to see them on the Snakes and Arrows tour in Ottawa. I've never thought about ranking them before but I guess if I had to pick a favorite it'd be Permanent Waves, Natural Science might be my all time favorite song. I've been listening to them a ton lately and I've really gained an appreciation for the synth heavy 80s stuff. Grace Under Pressure deserves more credit so I would have it pretty high up too. Love the Rash t-shirt and the Rush beer haha

While I don't have it quite as high as you, Presto is unquestionably the band's most underrated album of their entire catalogue. Big respect for such an original ranking!

Wow! Thank you for watching and for the nice comments! Seems “Presto” was applauded more than I expected for this ranking! 😋. But what can I say, its the album that got me into buying the rest of Rush’s discography… so it will have a special place in my heart forever! 🤘🏻

Finally someone who loves Presto as much as i did in the last almost 35 years!
This album is considered average at best by a shockingly large number of rush fans these days, which makes me personally quite sad.
And nice to know that i am not the only one who loves Superconductor. I didn't like Chain Lightening and Hand over Fist that much at first, but over the years I've grown to love every single song on the album. Nice to know i'm not the only one who loves this album :-)
Here is my personal Top Ten:
    10. Clockwork Angels - 2012 (unfortunately the sound was very overdriven in the mastering. Still, really good songs).
    9. Snakes and Arrows - 2007 (Sound see No. 10. A bit better than 10, especially the instrumentals are really great).
    8. Grace under Pressure - 1984 (Sound quite dull, first album without Terry Brown on the controls. Songs more straightforward than you were used to from them at the time, but very rousing. Some Parts strongly influenced by New Wave).
    7. Signals - 1982 (Last Terry Brown album. More keys and synties, which doesn't water down the songs at all, but just makes them even more melancholic and atmospheric).
    6. Permanent Waves - 1980 (Great transition from the 70s to the 80s. Sounds to me like a prelude to Moving Pictures, both in terms of the sound and the songs).
    5. Hemispheres - 1978 (actually something like the twin brother of A Farewell to Kings, but with a better, more powerful sound).
    4. A Farewell to Kings - 1977 (the production alone made it easy to understand the change from hard rock to prog. Maybe it could have been a little less transparent and a little more powerful in the sound. But maybe that's why Hemispheres had such an ingenious sound , because Kings was taken as a basis and sound-enhanced. The cover is my favorite cover of this band).
    3. Power Windows - 1985 (production too bombastic, but brilliant songs).
    2. Presto - 1989 (beautiful, ridiculously underrated album. When the album came out all the critics really loved it, but nowadays it seems almost hated, at least by the fans, which is really sad. Every time I listen to it, it puts a smile on my face and feel deep peace).
    1. Moving Pictures - 1981 (best album ever).

Hehehe! Yes we found another love for Presto! Glad to make your aquaintance and thank you for watching! Ya, when i say i love the song Superconductor, it's quite an understatement! I REALLY REALLY love that song! :) Great ranking of your top 10 and love the little annecdotes for each album! And yes, i agree with you for Presto... the critics and fans loved the return to rock and guitars on Presto... some called "show dont tell" brilliant... but with time got forgotten and not as much loved... not sure why... Once again, thank you for watching and commenting! Much appreciated!

I've liked and appreciated Rush for a long, but it took me to this year to dive into them.... and they're great! Quickly becoming one of my favorite bands!
I did a ranking on my channel recently, but I will say Permanent Waves is rock perfection lol

Ya, took me a LONG while to start collecting Rush (I slowly started getting them before Neil Peart passed away and now the prices have skyrocketed for their 90's albums)... i have them all except "Snakes and Arrows"... I will go look at your channel soon in between work... LOL I want to see the man who comments often how his channel looks like! :)

I learned to love Rush when I was young thanks to an older brother and Power Windows was my first personal purchase of Rush (I was 12) and still a favorite of mine. The awesome thing about Rush, for those that like them, there's such a varied favorite period, they're just that good. I favor the time of Permanent Waves to Hold Your Fire but for me they don't have a bad album really. My bottom would be Presto and I like it a lot, I just don't return to it much. How awesome though that a band that old would finish with 2 really strong records that some consider their favorites.
I could go all day about them but it's one of my all time favorite bands and I don't have blinders on that every album is perfection but overall, geez, what a career and what amazing talents all 3 of them have been. Again I can do a positive review of every album and my rankings below fluctuate greatly but that top 10 or so remain the same usually. Thanks for another excellent video!
    1. Moving Pictures
    2. Power Windows
    3. Permanent Waves
    4. Signals

If Rush is 'arguably' the best band to ever come from Canada, who is their competition? My own personal ranking goes like this:
    S Tier:
    Moving Pictures
    Hemispheres
    Permanent Waves
    A Farewell to Kings
    Signals
    A Tier:
    Power Windows
    2112
    Grace Under Pressure
    Fly By Night
    Clockwork Angels
    B Tier:
    Hold Your Fire
    Counterparts
    Snakes and Arrows
    Roll the Bones
    Caress of Steel
    C Tier:
    Rush
    Presto
    Vapor Trails
    D Tier:
    Test for Echo

Well, I guess in Canada, they were the only PROG band around (maybe Max Webster was close in the 70s) but in the grand scheme of things, if you ask a Canadian and ask who is Canada's most popular band overall, the answers could go from Rush to Tragically Hip to Nickelback to Arcade Fire (i guess?) LOL Also depends which age group you ask... Great Tier selection! What does the S Tier stand for? Super? Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hey! I knew you'd be doing a Rush ranking one of these days! I really like all their albums except one:
    19) Vapor Trials - I don't find there's anything memorable here and it's overall the only Rush album I don't like... I tried quite a few times, but it's no use. Even if the remixed version does sound better, it doesn't make the songs better. I know they were in a dark place and all that. I just can't get into that one.
    18) Test For Echo - I like a few things here, but there's nothing I find exceptional. And this album has what I find to be Rush's worst song ever, Virtuality. I hate songs about the internet, so this comes across as lame as fuck.
    17) Hold Your Fire - This was their 3rd uber-produced synth album from the 80s, and whereas Power Windows and Grace Under Pressure still felt proggy and nerdy, Hold Your Fire came across as more AOR and sedate. There's a few great songs on here though like Force Ten and Time Stand Still but also a few stinkers.
    16) Presto - I had a greatest hits, which I loved, but this was the first Rush album I ever bought, and it was my favorite for a while as a result. I still love it, but it's still Rush being too much under control, kind of adult. I'm glad it exists and I still listen to it a lot, but I've come to prefer Rush when they are more exuberant.
    15) Roll The Bones - This is like a more ballsy Presto, you can feel Rush is trying to bring back more rock into the mix. I always found the production to be a bit weak here... Put a Counterparts type production to Roll The Bones and you'd probably significantly increase the likability of this album. I've always loved the song Roll The Bones and never minded the rap.
    14) Rush - Their first one, has great rock tunes like Finding My Way, What You're Doing, In The Mood, Before And After, Working Man. A bit too simple and meat-and-potatoes for my usual Rush cravings, but a very fun debut album.
    13) Snakes And Arrows - I thought this was a very good return to form after Test For Echo and Vapor Trails. Working Them Angels is an amazing song, a modern Rush classic. This was hinting at potential great things to come.
    12) Counterparts - Easily Rush's best album of the 90s. Although Stick It Out was kind of an attempt to be relevant, I still love it, kind of like Unholy from Kiss. Animate also rules and I've always really liked deep-cut Double Agent. Very good album throughout.
    11) Power Windows - Perhaps a notch too much towards synths. I don't mind the outdated 80s production having grown-up during that era, but I can see it being an obstacle to some people's enjoyment. Manhattan Project is my fave here, but overall, the song-writing is a bit of a step back compared with Grace Under Pressure.
    10) Fly By Night - Neil Peart's presence for the first time on a Rush album is immediately felt, the prog starting to show more, the songs being more complex and more thought out than on the first album, his playing definitely bringing something unique, Rush finding it's sound much more on this one. And more than anything else, the lyrics get an incredible boost. By-Tor & the Snow Dog is a first great fun epic and Beneath, Between and Behind is another great one.
    9) Caress of Steel - Definitely Rush's darkest and most hermetic album of the 70s, it is a harder one to get into for it's eccentric second half. I've loved Bastille Days and Lakeside Park from day one, but after years, I finally started liking the weirdass epics The Necromancer and The Fountain of Lamneth. A grower for me.
    8) Signals - Years ago, this would have been in the top 5, but it depends on my mood. It's an odd one, such classics on this like Subdivisions, The Analog Kid, New World Man, but some others that are harder to get into.
    7) Grace Under Pressure - To me, this is Rush's great fun album. The greatest 80s classics are on Moving Pictures, but Grace Under Pressure is fun with great compositions through and through (Distant Early Warning, Afterimage, Red Sector A, The Enemy Within, The Body Electric, Kid Gloves, Between The Wheels). Fun, yet full of drama, and this being their first full venture into synth-heavy fare after signalling their intent on Signals, and I find the blend perfect at this juncture.
    6) Clockwork Angels - Since Hold Your Fire, Rush was providing quality albums, but I pretty much had lost hope for anything on the level of the classic earlier albums. But with Clockwork Angels, they have done it, in my opinion. Their first concept album, blending what worked well on Snakes & Arrows with a surprising injection of their classic 2112, Farewell To Kings and Hemisphere albums sound, Rush embracing their heritage rather than running from it for the previous 20 years. My love for this album has only increased since it's release, great songs throughout, rocking all the way through. My favorite has always been The Garden, one of my favorite Rush songs ever, an amazing end to an amazing album, it's significance only increasing after Neil's passing, as this now stands as the swan song for the band. It never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
    5) Permanent Waves - The transition album between the epic long song era of the band and the more compact and hooky output of the 80s. Like Caress of Steel, it took me a while to get into it, opening with 2 blistering classics (The Spirit of Radio and Freewill), then settling in a confusing (at first) mix of disjointed songs. But I now thoroughly love it and have embraced it's seemingly chaotic nature, including the longer Jacob's Ladder and Natural Science.
    4) 2112 - The 20 minutes or so epic 2112 on side one is undeniable, Rush having learned the lessons from earlier attempts at long epics on Caress of Steel. Second side is less remarkable I must admit, still some good stuff like Passage to Bangkok... but that 2112-filled first half is just too awesome and lifts this to the top of the Rush catalog.
    3) Hemispheres - Somewhat like 2112, the first half is the long epic and then you get the stand alone songs. As great as the epic Hemisphere is (and it is great), it isn't as great as 2112. Where this album out does 2112 is with side B having much better songs overall than 2112 with The Trees, my favorite Rush instrumental La Villa Strangiato and even less flashy Circumstances.
    2) A Farewell to Kings - The epic songs here (Xanadu and Cygnus X-1) are fabulous, different but just as good as 2112. And Farewell to Kings and Closer to the Heart are just as great shorter more consumable songs.
    1) Moving Pictures - Totally typical to have this in first place, and to be honest, I listen to A Farewell to Kings just as much. But side A of Moving Pictures is perfect with Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, YYZ and Limelight. And side B has grown in my estimation as being near perfect as well, less hooky to be sure, but gives us some of the best prog ever from Rush with The Camera Eye, Witch Hunt and Vital Signs.
