It’s worth mentioning that Dawn’s BR disc(s) being region-locked on the Second Sight release is Richard Rubinstein’s fault, not Second Sight. He’s still refusing to allow a US release unless a distributor pays him an astronomical sum.

I always wondered how many people import discs to the point that studios really even care anymore.

I want to say its slim. But at least 4k Blu-ray is region free.

I have a 4K Blu-ray player and a PS5. My 4K player is locked to Region 1 DVDs and Region A Blu-rays. But I’ve recently discovered that you can change both the DVD and Blu-ray region codes on the PS5 up to 4 times each. So what I’ve done is switch the DVD region on my PS5 to 2 and I’ve switched the Blu-ray region to B. Now I can watch movies from either North America or Europe with no hassle. Best of both worlds, am I right?

I import a lot of region locked discs and lots of movies that only got a 4k release elsewhere in the world.

The beauty of 4K discs is that they are region free all around the world

Meh, I don't even care about the region of blurays I buy, I have some Japanese, Some American and plenty of local local European releases. Can play anything on PC. You can always get some old micro PC with a laptop-style DVD drive for some 10-15€, swap the drive for BluRay for another 10€ and there you have it, PC won't mind the region.
BTW plenty of releases declare just one or two regions but work in 2 or 3 respectively.
As for DVDs, never had any issues with region locks, I mean pretty much every off-brand DVD player thet plays your old AVI or RMVB movies doesn't really care about the regions either and most of people got these anyway to play their burned discs.

Funny question. I'm getting that Dawn of the Dead from Second Sight, and have my eye on an LG 4k UHD Region Free player off ebay for $199 (UP870 UBK80 refurbished). I assume that special features disc will work and can I play foreign dvds as well? (I happen to own a German copy of Cannibal Holocaust on dvd). Also, will that 4k Player work on a normal HD tv? We have a 50 inch LG Tv which i believe is a 1080p.

As long as the listing says it’ll play blu-ray region A,B,C and dvd region 1-7 you should be fine. You’ll probably have to input a code on your remote to activate each region.

Thanks, Scott! I'll have to try the external hard drive, since my PS4 will "lock" out the region swaps if I do it too often :( do you know of any ways around that?
Also - what about subtitles?? If I rip the movie, to they come with?

    • @ScottReviews
      @ScottReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I haven’t used my PS4 for this, but yes makemkv will rip subtitles.

I hate region locking! And ever notice region A releases are so limited and go oop, while region b releases will get multiple releases and sell for 15 to 20 bucks for years? Just dont get it(and i'm looking at you sleepaway camp 2 n 3!) Thankfully I found my own cheap alternative recently. I had looked into getting a region free player but they are severely over priced and not always guaranteed to work, plus they will eventually die at some point. What I did was bought a cheap usb external blu drive for my laptop, anyone will do, you wont have to hunt for a region free external blu drive. Then I bought a super long hdmi cable running from my laptop to my hdtv, bout a 100 bucks total. Then I just downloaded lenoa player, a free bluray media player and bam im able to watch all my region b's, menus and all with no issues on my big hdtv. Its opened up so many doors for me being a film collector n all. I used to avoid region B all together, not anymore. Pillaged the hell out of Arrow UKs shocktober sale lol

@@ScottReviews yeh, the funny thing about it, is i've had an usb blu drive for awhile,it was given to me. I just never bothered messing with it. Ive had a region free player entire time. Ps4 also is odd, it will play some region b discs but not others. I no they are region locked as well for sure cus my region A player will give me the message. Ive got a german import region b blu of Double o kid with Haim for instance, wont play on my region a but works on ps4, just weird. Arrow region bs indefinitely wont work on ps4,tried'm all

The best one I've heard before (as a joke) was that region locking is a form of racism/discrimination.
    🤣👍
I bought a media remote for my PS3, just in case I ever encounter a region locking issue.
And low and behold, it happened. Thankfully, mine is mode, and I can easily change the player region, making it "region free."
    (But with extra steps)
