2024 checking in. About to buy my first copy of Akira, brother had the VHS and well, no VCR. Very helpful video, was thinking of getting the DTS

I have a 4K Blu-ray player and a PS5. My 4K player is locked to Region 1 DVDs and Region A Blu-rays. But I’ve recently discovered that you can change both the DVD and Blu-ray region codes on the PS5 up to 4 times each. So what I’ve done is switch the DVD region on my PS5 to 2 and I’ve switched the Blu-ray region to B. Now I can watch movies from either North America or Europe with no hassle. Best of both worlds, am I right?

When I bought this, I accidentally bought the Blu-Ray version. Was gonna get the 4K. I saw they released a set which just has the 4K and extra Blu-Ray disc. Are those the same 4K discs that are on the Second Sight set?

I have the anchor bay Blu-ray. I’m considering getting the 4k set. But I don’t like the fact that the special features are on a disc that I won’t be able to play here in the U.S. Because of this, I believe Anchor Bay is still the best release. But damn, I didn’t know about these hardbound books, mall maps, or comics came with them. Might need to get them all

Tried watching it years ago. Booooring. Never understood Japanamation. Just weird and very low quality animation. Movement looks stilted and awkward. Nothing even close to the mastery of animation that you see with Disney productions. I'm sure there is an appeal for some people to see a cartoon with adult themes, but I was an adult when I tried watching Akira, and by that time I no longer found any value in cartoons, even ones for adults.

It's the 88 Dub in 4K too?

The Streamline Dub is the only way to watch it. In my book.

I have an lg HX806SG. Anyone knows how to unlock this one for blurays?

I think the releases of Dawn of the Dead had been multiple times analyzed. But what about "Day Of The Dead" ? And there is one certain aspect which does not really matter to almost anyone. Preservation of movies shot in Full screen. Before Laserdics and DVDs I had Videocassettes (VHS). So naturally also of Day of the Dead. I was excited when it was released on Laserdisc, then DVD, then Blu Ray. But what happened? On the VHS you see the whole movie, but then not anymore. Just check it! They just cut away the top and the bottom. Then they called it "16:9 / Letterbox / Widescreen". Hey, I can fool myself, can I ? Imagine a photograph of yourself being cut on the top and bottom. So your forehead, the hair (or the bald) and your throat are not to be seen anymore. And if you think you therefore can see more / new information on the left and/or right hand side, think again! So in short, they cut the whole movie !

I have the original VHS so it was a crazy jump to the steel book set. Need to upgrade though. Lol.

This is what needs to happen: New 4K transfers of all the Nightmare On Elm Street films The unrated version of The Dream Child A new 3D transfer of Freddy's Dead The reboot and Freddy vs Jason included Freddy's Nightmares included All the old documentaries and extras included as well as some new ones A beautiful box set with individual cases as individual discs (I wrote this before the video was over and you pretty much covered what I said)

I picked up the set myself. Does anyone know if American blu ray players or gaming consoles can play region b bluray? Ive never heared of region b

The region B locking is a bummer. I hope we US folks get a release someday

The dub of the Streamline version just seems like the voice acting is better. I dont know if its an audio issue, but it sounds cheaper compared to the original dub. Its a shame because the actual script of the 2001 is better.

The best one I've heard before (as a joke) was that region locking is a form of racism/discrimination. 🤣👍 I bought a media remote for my PS3, just in case I ever encounter a region locking issue. And low and behold, it happened. Thankfully, mine is mode, and I can easily change the player region, making it "region free." (But with extra steps)

Of the old cartridge games I only collect CIB genesis and master system because they came in nice plastic clamshell cases. For NES, SNES, N64, Game Gear, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance I just collect loose carts because the boxes are much harder to find and make the price at least 3X as high. These custom cases are a nice middle ground. They protect the game better than the original box because they are rigid, more air tight, and able to take drops and more weight on them than the original cardboard boxes, and it's not a hassle to pull the game out like it is with the original box. To be honest, these are the cases Nintendo should have sold their games in back in the day, just like Sega did. Having a plastic case obviously became the industry standard in later generations once everything went to optical media, so Sega was ahead of the curve by doing it all the way back in the 8-bit era.

I have the standard edition of Akira on 4k Australian release that is Funmation. When I play it on my UB820 it says HDR is on? How do you know if you have the version without HDR. Im assuming all the standard editions have HDR as they came out way after the collectors edition. Hopefully? Piss me off if they where allowed to sell it without HDR in Australia. Funny thing is, it doesn't have the HDR sticker on the disc or cover? But when I play the movie it says HDR is on?

I'm glad I've seen this now because I was about to give up a British Funimation 4k edition thinking it looked awful, I didn't realise it wasn't HDR which was causing it to be too bright. The only time I've had a UHD in the past that wasn't HDR was an American import of Sergio Leone's man with no name trilogy discs by Kino Lorber. I'll put the brightness down on my projector and give it another go.

The streamline dub is the best its what I saw in art theater in Manhattan in 1989 since it was released a year later in the u.s who cares if they say the newer dub Is better to me its not what I sawnwhen I was 20 in 89 then I bought it on streamline video when released and bought it from Whole Toon Catalog in 90

Excellent review! Amazon has these Limited Run cases now on sale for $59.99! I'm getting some to upgrade my "loose" Saturn discs and hopefully reprint some nice artwork to put new life into my naked discs.

The 80s vhs English dub (streamline) is the one that lives in my head. I love that the new dub was made, that the film was loved and cherished and also, inarguably, improved. But I’ll always hear “TwElVe ThOuSaNd RPMs!!” the same way lol

Okay so, can we please band together to get some kind of social media push for a good box set? I have tried doing this myself but I don't really have much time or followers to start this up. We need someone with enough pull to get this going. I was trying to get #justiceforelmstreetfans to catch on but I don't have enough followers or the time to get really get this going. Let's do this! We need to show Warner/New Line that Elm Street fans won't take no. Let's get this going on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, ext....

I love the original box, but I don't like opening them to get the game out. I use my boxes as display pieces with other options for lining up carts for use... of course, that does end up taking up more space, which has become a problem when it comes to displaying things in fun and interesting ways (not just the boxes fault).

Nice video man. I love this film and this boxset. One of the greatest horror films of all time. Also have all the other editions you have and was wondering, do you find this new 4k set the colors in the picture seem a bit muted and darker compared to other editions? I was watching on a 1080p plasma with no dolby vision or HDR. I know the original director of photography was involved with the color timing and was wondering did they base this color timing remaster on a perfectly projected version of the film on a big screen...

I personally don’t care if the Funi 4K doesn’t have HDR. I’d still be grateful to have the film in 4K regardless if it had HDR or not.

I read this KL release is in dolby vision, as I own the UK Antholology steelbook set, they are in HDR?

We're heading into the tail end of 2022 and still no TERMINATOR 4K UHD. Vinegar Syndrome would do a kick ass job of putting out a TERMINATOR 4K UHD
