    Great video, man!
    It's so nice to have someone local creating contante about the FZ6.
    I have a 2007 FZ6 and even though I like the exhaust sound, I have the impression that in low RPM the bike is quite muted. However, I don't really like the idea of changing the muffler because I don't really like loud bikes.
    It seems to me you found the perfect alternative to give just a little more character to the bike without being too annoying.
    I appreciate it man. I will do the same as soon as possible.
    Cheers!

    Just did this mod and found three things helped:
    1) work off the kickstand not the center stand so it is out of the way.
    2) loosen all header lugs as far as possible to allow maneuvering
    3) remove the side cowl so you can loosen the Allen bolt that lets the hanger bracket swing to get the right alignment to hang the new pipe.
    It does sound slightly louder and higher pitched over 4k rpm.

    3:25 The part you threw away there is the gasket. My maintenance guide instructs to replace them if you remove them, and now that you have removed them from your exhaust - you made it leak. There's one on both ends of the catalytic converter. Removing the catalytic converter sure makes the bike sound more manly and the exhaust more toxic.

    Excellent video. I really like the two camera setup.. I have recently ordered a new Delkevic exhaust for my Fz6N. Hopefully arrives by next weekend or during next week. I asked the supplier regarding the catless mid pipe but was warned against it as the new exhaust will be LOUD as it is.

    Calvin i have an issue that i cant narrow down, maybe youll have some insight.
    My bike sat for a year after i lowsided it at a very low speed, but now its starting to act up only when its cold outside.
    During warm weather my 2004 Fz6 idles normally,
    But as the fall rolls in, and the ambient temps drop below 55°F it idles around 3000 RPM, but only after it warms up.
    I checked the air temp sensor and TPS, both are in spec.
    Today I checked the error codes, and there were 6.
    12,13,15,19,22,30.
    So i cleared the codes today for the first time since i owned the bike, restarted it a few times while checking the codes and there are zero errors, but the idle is still rising after it warms up, when the outside temps drop at night.
    Im not sure what the issue is.

    Hi Calvin !
    Have you experienced any bad smelling exhaust fumes after the decat ?
    I saw in some of your comments that you contemplate to drill holes into your muffler, in order to get a better sound, but you should also be aware of the downsides, caused by the modified backpressure parameters and air-fuel ratio.
    I have drilled the muffler of my FZ6 looking for a better sound, but I ended up in getting real bad smelling exhaust fumes and backfires on deceleration. I mounted a K&N air filter and tweaked the CO settings, the backfires dissappeared, but the bad exhaust smell persisted.
    For me the bad smelling exhaust fumes is a dealbreaker because I commute with my FZ and I hate to stink whenever I entered a room (I was on the edge of selling my FZ for that matter).
    I ended up reverting to a stock muffler, stock air filter, performed a throttle body balancing and tweaked again the CO settings and now the level of the exhaust fumes reduced significantly. I have the stock catalytic converter, and I intend to give it a clean in the summer with vinegar and sodium hidroxyde. I saw on a forum that a guy reduced the level of bad exhaust fumes by approx 75% by cleaning the catalytic converter with vinegar.
    I love your content on FZ6, great quality !
    Please, please, please make a video on CO settings ! It would be interesting to see your views and your approach on such a topic which has the most unanswered questions on the forums.

    Great video man! I know you mentioned you didn't want to take off all your luggage racks. But, would you think about doing a taillight install/replacement? Mine got a crack in the lens and they don't do replacement lenses, so I will need to remove it fully and put in a new one.

    I can't for the life of me find where the ground lead connects to from the negative terminal of the battery. The manual says it is somewhere on the right side under the seat but it seemingly does not exists on my bike. Same 2007 fz6. If you know where the ground connection is or where else I can connect it please let me know.

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I recall there being a ground wire that connected to the top of the transmission area. Near the butt end of the starter there was a threaded hole that a black ground wire attached too. But I never traced that wire back to the battery for fun or necessity so I’m not sure we’re talking about the same thing. Good luck either way!

    Yeah my fz6 is way too loud. I got it kinda beat up with a fresh motor. So I have been fixing it up. I got it straight piped and have been search for the right exhaust. I definitely do not want to go stock. I want a good tone. Good sounding bike. Not a screaming bumble bee sounding like it's about to explode at only 7k. Lol my bike it catted still and it too loud without the back section of the exhuast.

    Hello Calvin I was wondering, where you got your saddle bags and crash/highway bars as I’ve looked almost everywhere and nothings really showing up to fit an 09 fz6.

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  ปีที่แล้ว

      The saddle bags are made by Shad. They worked very well for me and suited the bike. I made a video on them for more details if you’re interested.

      As for the highway/crash bars, I never found the company who made my exact parts but this company makes very similar ones.

    I cringe at the phrase "loosen up the header bolts"
    It's been a few years since I put together my custom slipon with split pipe. But iirc the stock secondary cat can be drilled out for the same effect.
    My new mufflers flow freely enough that I get some mild post ignition on hard clutch decelerations and it happens at that cat. Could probably lean the fuel little enough in the stock settings to get it right. But it rarely happens on normal deceleration and the bike is a monster.
    That stock muffler is definitely a huge restriction. Makes the bike sound like a kazoo too!

    Alternatively smash the cat out of the original pipe and save $70. Another cheap and easy mod for more sound is to drill trough the resonance chambers wall inside the muffler with a long drill which pretty much straight pipes the bike.

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya I’ve seen the drilling technique before, looks intriguing 👀

    • @kamn1
      @kamn1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Calvinm Ive done it. Its pretty loud until it warms up, after it quiets down quite a bit. Doesnt sound as good as an aftermarket but still 10 times better than the super muffled stock sound. Riding slow (and fast) is so much more fun now, you dont have to redline it constantly to get that sweet purr. I still have the cat pipe, dont know how it would sound without cat. Also on my s1 theres no cats in the headers or an oxy sensor.
