This channel seems to be the best kept secret of all the sailing channels. Its realistic, down to earth and honest. Well done !

Really enjoyed this vid. Can you recommend a cruising guide for NL?

I wish I could. We didn't have a guild for NL on board. It was a spur of the moment trip. We had an extra week to kill before we made our approach to the St. Lawrence River, so we said, "why not head to NL?" We used Garmin Active Captain to read reviews. I endorse the use of Active Captain for any sailing trip. Double so in unfamiliar waters.

In joying your videos. I sailed from Belfast Me. To Halifax for the first time this year hope to go further next year, so I will keep watching.

Nice! Thanks for the comment. We love Belfast. Did you happen to see our video from when we took Traumerei there? The video was a bit rough because it was a while ago, and I am slowly but constantly learning how to make better videos. We got tattoos in Belfast from Poshy Ard. Sailing Nova Scotia is a breeze compared to Maine because (off fishing season) there are no lobster pots to dodge.

@@practicaldreams6377 yes I loved how open it was on the water. And you can drop the hook at night all by yourself. I am 63 and my girlfriend will not go on open water sailing😞. But I had a friend I talked into going this year. Now I have to figure out next year. 😂

It’s Bay St. George, not St Georges Bay. I live on its shores.
It’s Pronounced NewFinLAND, rhymes with Understand
It’s the GULF of St Lawrence.
    Lark Harbour, not cove.
Criticism aside, I enjoyed the vid..nice to see my home on TH-cam.

I am curious as to why you sailed to St. George's and not Port aux Basque?

Not too much thought went into the decision. We didn't have anything planned for Newfoundland at all. Just thought we could afford to take a week before heading to the St. Lawrence River. So we found Gros Morne National Park on Google maps. Then picked a bay that was south of that but not too far away from The Nova Scotia Highlands. I wouldn't recommend St George's Bay though. Not that there is anything wrong with it. Just that I should have actually looked at the scale on the chart plotter. It's 30miles and then of course 30 to get back out. That is a whole lot of transiting to visit a beach and a lighthouse.

@@practicaldreams6377 yes we are planning to head to Port aux Basques and explore the south coast

That's super cool. I'm well aware that we barely scratched the surface of Newfoundland (or the entire Canadian Maritimes for that matter). Morgan and I were dreaming of doing a whole summer circumnavigation of Newfoundland. Much more appealing than a stop in before heading off to our next thing.

@@practicaldreams6377 circumnavigating the province is what our plan is but do it in 3 or 4 summers. I am from there.
